< 1 Samuel 14 >

1 Nito naah Saul capa Jonathan mah angmah ih maiphaw sin kami thendoeng maeto khaeah, Angzo ah, misatoep Philistin kaminawk ohhaih ahmuen, vapui yaeh ah caeh si, tiah a naa. Toe ampa to thaisak ai.
Now it came to pass upon a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over to the Philistines’ garrison, that [is] on the other side. But he told not his father.
2 Saul loe Gibeah vangpui taeng ah kaom, Migron avang taeng ih Pomegranat thingkung tahlip ah anghnut; a taengah kami cumvai tarukto oh o.
And Saul tarried in the uttermost part of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree which [is] in Migron: and the people that [were] with him [were] about six hundred men;
3 Shiloh vangpui ah angraeng ih qaima ah kaom, Eli capa Phinehas, Phinehas capa Ikhabod ih amnawk, Ahitub capa Ahijah loe kahni to angkhuk. Jonathan loe caeh ving boeh, tiah mi mah doeh panoek ai.
And Ahiah, the son of Ahitub, I-chabod’s brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the LORD’s priest in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone.
4 Philistin misatuh kaminawk khaeah Jonathan caehhaih loklam ah, lungsong hae bangah maeto, ho bangah maeto oh; lungsong maeto loe Bozez, kalah maeto loe Seneh, tiah ahmin oh.
And between the passages, by which Jonathan sought to go over unto the Philistines’ garrison, [there was] a sharp rock on the one side, and a sharp rock on the other side: and the name of the one [was] Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.
5 Maeto loe aluek bangah kaom Mikmash vangpui bangah anghae, maeto bae loe aloih bangah kaom Geba vangpui ah anghae.
The forefront of the one [was] situate northward over against Michmash, and the other southward over against Gibeah.
6 Jonathan mah angmah ih misatukhaih hmuenmae phawkung thendoeng khaeah, Angzo ah, tangyat hin aat ai kaminawk ih misatoephaih ahmuen ah caeh si; Angraeng mah aicae zuengah misa na tuh pae doeh om tih, kami pop cadoeh, tamsi cadoeh, Angraeng loe mi mah doeh pakaa thai mak ai, tiah a naa.
And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for [there is] no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.
7 Anih ih misatukhaih hmuenmae phawkung mah, Na poekhaih baktih toengah sah ah; Caeh ah, khenah, na poekhaih palungthin baktih toengah, kang caeh haih han hmang, tiah a naa.
And his armourbearer said unto him, Do all that [is] in thine heart: turn thee; behold, I [am] with thee according to thy heart.
8 Jonathan mah, Khenah, hae kaminawk ohhaih ahmuen bangah caeh si loe, nihcae kamtueng ah om pae si.
Then said Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over unto [these] men, and we will discover ourselves unto them.
9 Nihcae mah, Kaicae angzo o ai karoek to, to ahmuen ah na zing oh, tiah na thui o nahaeloe, nihcae khae caeh tahang ai ah, a oh hoi haih ahmuen ah om poe si.
If they say thus unto us, Tarry until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up unto them.
10 Toe nihcae mah, Kaicae khaeah angzo tahang ah, tiah thui nahaeloe, Angraeng mah nihcae to aihnik khaeah paek boeh pongah, caeh tahang si, hae loe aihnik hanah angmathaih ah om nasoe, tiah a naa.
But if they say thus, Come up unto us; then we will go up: for the LORD hath delivered them into our hand: and this [shall be] a sign unto us.
11 To pongah nihnik loe Philistin kaminawk kamtueng ah oh pae hoi; Philistinnawk mah, Khenah, anghawkhaih ahmuen hoiah Hebru kaminawk tacawt o boeh, tiah a thuih o.
And both of them discovered themselves unto the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves.
12 To ih misatoep kaminawk mah Jonathan hoi anih ih misatukhaih hmuenmae phawkung khaeah, Hae ah angzo hoi tahang ah, hmuen kang patuek hoi han, tiah a naa o. To pongah Jonathan mah angmah ih hmuenmae phawkung khaeah, Ka hnukah angzo ah; Angraeng mah nihcae to Israel kaminawk ban ah paek boeh, tiah a naa.
And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armourbearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will shew you a thing. And Jonathan said unto his armourbearer, Come up after me: for the LORD hath delivered them into the hand of Israel.
13 Jonathan loe khokkhu hoi a ban tha patohhaih hoiah dawh tahang; anih ih hmuenmae phawkung doeh anih hnukah dawh tahang toeng; Philistinnawk loe Jonathan hmaa ah amtimh o, angmah ih hmuen phawkung mah nihcae to hum.
And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armourbearer slew after him.
14 Jonathan hoi angmah ih hmuen phawkung mah, maitaw tae hoi laikok atokhaih ahmuen ekah ahap caeh hoi ai naah, Philistin kaminawk pumphae to a hum hoi boeh.
And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were an half acre of land, [which] a yoke [of oxen might plow].
15 Misatuh kaminawk, laikok atok kaminawk, kaminawk boih, misatoep kaminawk, misa muk thaih kaminawk loe mawnhh hoiah koi o; talih doeh hnawh pongah paroeai kalen tasoehhaih to oh.
And there was trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people: the garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled, and the earth quaked: so it was a very great trembling.
16 Benjamin prae Gibeah vangpui ah misatoep Saul ih misatuh kaminawk mah doeng o naah, khenah, kapop parai Philistinnawk loe kami tamsi o boeh, nihcae loe maeto hoi maeto angboh o moe, caeh o.
And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked; and, behold, the multitude melted away, and they went on beating down [one another].
17 To naah Saul mah a taengah kaom kaminawk khaeah, Mi maw kacaeh, tiah panoek hanah kaminawk to kroek oh, tiah a naa. A kroek o naah, khenah, Jonathan hoi angmah ih misatukhaih hmuenmae phaw kami to om ai.
Then said Saul unto the people that [were] with him, Number now, and see who is gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armourbearer [were] not [there].
18 Saul mah Ahijah khaeah, Sithaw ih thingkhong to hae ah sin ah, tiah a naa. To nathuem ah Sithaw ih thingkhong loe Israel kaminawk khaeah oh vop.
And Saul said unto Ahiah, Bring hither the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that time with the children of Israel.
19 Saul mah qaima khaeah lokthuih li naah, Philistin kaminawk salakah kaom maeto hoi maeto angbohhaih lok to pung aep aep; to pongah Saul mah qaima khaeah, Na ban to azuk ah, tiah a naa.
And it came to pass, while Saul talked unto the priest, that the noise that [was] in the host of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said unto the priest, Withdraw thine hand.
20 Saul hoi angmah ih kaminawk loe nawnto amkhueng o moe, misatukhaih ahmuen ah caeh o; khenah, to nathuem ah Philistin kaminawk loe poek anghmang o sut pongah, angmacae hoi angmacae sumsen hoiah takroek o.
And Saul and all the people that [were] with him assembled themselves, and they came to the battle: and, behold, every man’s sword was against his fellow, [and there was] a very great discomfiture.
21 To naah Philistinnawk khaeah kaom, nihcae ataihaih ahmuen ah kacaeh, Hebru kaminawk loe Saul hoi Joanthan khaeah kaom Israel kaminawk khaeah caeh o moe, to ah athum o.
Moreover the Hebrews [that] were with the Philistines before that time, which went up with them into the camp [from the country] round about, even they also [turned] to be with the Israelites that [were] with Saul and Jonathan.
22 Ephraim mae nuiah anghawk Israel kaminawk mah, Philistin kaminawk loe cawnh o boeh ti, tiah thaih o naah, misatuk naah athum o toeng moe, misanawk to patom o.
Likewise all the men of Israel which had hid themselves in mount Ephraim, [when] they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.
23 To pongah Angraeng mah to na niah Israel kaminawk to pahlong, misatukhaih loe Beth-Aven vangpui yaeh khoek to phak.
So the LORD saved Israel that day: and the battle passed over unto Beth-aven.
24 To na niah Israel kaminawk loe paroeai palungboeng o; Saul mah ka misanawk nuiah lu ka lak han oh vop, to pongah niduem ai naah buhcaa kaminawk loe tangoenghaih tong nasoe, tiah lokkamhaih sak pongah, mi doeh buhcaa o ai.
And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed [be] the man that eateth [any] food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted [any] food.
25 Prae thung ih kaminawk boih taw thungah akun o; to naah long ah kaom khoi to a hnuk o.
And all [they of] the land came to a wood; and there was honey upon the ground.
26 Kaminawk taw thungah phak o naah, taw ah kalong khoitui to a hnuk o; toe lokkamhaih zit o pongah, mi mah doeh pakha thungah ban tapawh o ai.
And when the people were come into the wood, behold, the honey dropped; but no man put his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the oath.
27 Toe Jonathan mah loe ampa mah kaminawk khaeah thuih pae ih lokkamhaih to panoek ai pongah, a ban ah kaom tayae toeng tadong hoiah khoitui to quk pacoengah, pakha thungah ban tapawh; to naah a mik amtueng pae kue.
But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that [was] in his hand, and dipped it in an honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were enlightened.
28 To naah kami maeto mah, Nam pa mah kaminawk khaeah, mi kawbaktih doeh vaihniah buhcaa kami loe, tangoenghaih tong nasoe, tiah lokkamhaih a saksak. To pongah kaminawk loe thazok o sut boeh, tiah a naa.
Then answered one of the people, and said, Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed [be] the man that eateth [any] food this day. And the people were faint.
29 Jonathan mah, Pa mah prae kaminawk raihaih paek boeh; khenah, hae ih khoitui zetta ka pataeng naah, ka mik amtueng kue.
Then said Jonathan, My father hath troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.
30 Kaminawk mah misanawk khae hoi lak o ih thoemto hmuennawk to caa o nahaeloe, kawkruk maw hoih ueloe, Philistin kaminawk to pop aep ah hum o thai tih, tiah a naa.
How much more, if haply the people had eaten freely to day of the spoil of their enemies which they found? for had there not been now a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?
31 To na niah, Mikmash vangpui hoi Aijalon vangpui karoek to, Israel kaminawk mah Philistinnawk hum o pongah, kaminawk loe paroeai angpho o.
And they smote the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon: and the people were very faint.
32 Misanawk ih hmuennawk to muk o, tuunawk, maitaw taenawk, maitaw caanawk to a lak o moe, long ah boh o pacoengah, athii hoi nawnto a caak o.
And the people flew upon the spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slew [them] on the ground: and the people did eat [them] with the blood.
33 To naah kami maeto mah Saul khaeah, Khenah, kaminawk loe athii kaom moi to caak o moe, Angraeng hmaa ah a zae o let bae boeh, tiah a naa. Anih mah, Lokkamhaih na phraek o boeh, vaihniah kalen parai thlung kai khaeah palet oh boeh, tiah a naa.
Then they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sin against the LORD, in that they eat with the blood. And he said, Ye have transgressed: roll a great stone unto me this day.
34 To pacoengah Saul mah kaminawk khaeah, Caeh oh loe, kami boih mah angmacae ih maitaw hoi tuu to hae ah sin o nasoe; hae ah bop oh loe, caa oh; athii kaom moi caakhaih hoiah Angraeng hmaa ah zaehaih sah o hmah, tiah thui pae oh, tiah a naa. To pongah to naduem ah, kaminawk boih mah angmacae ih maitaw to sin o moe, to ah boh o.
And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people, and say unto them, Bring me hither every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and slay [them] here, and eat; and sin not against the LORD in eating with the blood. And all the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and slew [them] there.
35 To naah Saul mah Angraeng khaeah hmaicam maeto sak; hae loe hmaloe koek a sak ih hmaicam ah oh.
And Saul built an altar unto the LORD: the same was the first altar that he built unto the LORD.
36 Saul mah, Khoving ah Philistinnawk khaeah caeh o si loe, khodai khoek to hmuenmae to lomh pae o si, kami maeto doeh hingsak hmah si, tiah thuih. Nihcae mah, Hoih hmang, tiah na poek ih baktih toengah sah halat ah, tiah a naa o. Toe qaima mah, Sithaw dueng rae si, tiah a naa.
And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest, Let us draw near hither unto God.
37 To pongah Saul mah Sithaw khaeah, Philistinnawk khaeah ka caeh han maw? Nihcae to Israelnawk ban ah na paek han maw? tiah a dueng. Toe to na niah Sithaw mah anih ih lok to pathim pae ai.
And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into the hand of Israel? But he answered him not that day.
38 To pongah Saul mah, Kami zaehoikungnawk boih, hae ah angzo oh, vaihniah tih zaehaih maw na sak o moeng boeh?
And Saul said, Draw ye near hither, all the chief of the people: and know and see wherein this sin hath been this day.
39 Israel pahlongkung Angraeng loe hing baktih toengah, Jonathan loe ka capa ah om cadoeh, a nuiah zaehaih om nahaeloe, a duek han oh, tiah thuih. Toe kaminawk thungah mi mah doeh lok pathim pae o ai.
For, [as] the LORD liveth, which saveth Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But [there was] not a man among all the people [that] answered him.
40 To naah Saul mah Israel kaminawk boih khaeah, Nangcae loe ho bangah angdoe oh, kai hoi ka capa Jonathan loe hae bangah kang doet hoi han, tiah a naa. Kaminawk mah Saul khaeah, Hoih, tiah na poek ih baktih toengah sah ah, tiah a naa o.
Then said he unto all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said unto Saul, Do what seemeth good unto thee.
41 To naah Saul mah angmah ih Israel Angraeng Sithaw khaeah, Katoeng ah lok na caek ah, tiah lawkthuih. Jonathan hoi Saul loe taham khethaih phoisa to vah hoi; toe kaminawk loe loih o.
Therefore Saul said unto the LORD God of Israel, Give a perfect [lot]. And Saul and Jonathan were taken: but the people escaped.
42 Saul mah, Kai hoi ka capa Jonathan salakah taham khethaih phoisa to va ah, tiah a naa. To naah Jonathan nuiah krak.
And Saul said, Cast [lots] between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.
43 To naah Saul mah Jonathan khaeah, Tih hmuen maw na sakpazae? Na thui ah, tiah a naa. Jonathan mah kaimah ih tayae tadong hoiah khotui to ka quk moe, zetta ka pataeng; to pongah khenah, kai loe vaihi ka duek han oh, tiah a naa.
Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that [was] in mine hand, [and], lo, I must die.
44 Saul mah, Sithaw mah ka nui ah kanung parai ah doeh sah nasoe, Jonathan, nang loe na duek han oh, tiah a naa.
And Saul answered, God do so and more also: for thou shalt surely die, Jonathan.
45 Toe kaminawk mah Saul khaeah, Israel kaminawk hanah hae tih khoek to kalen pahlonghaih sahkung, Jonathan to paduek han maw? Sithaw mah duehsak hmah nasoe; Angraeng loe hing baktih toengah, a lu nui ih sam maeto doeh long ah krak han om ai; Sithaw abomhaih rang hoiah ni vaihniah anih mah hae hmuen hae a sak, tiah a naa o. To pongah paduek han ai ah, kaminawk mah Jonathan to pahlong o.
And the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? God forbid: [as] the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he died not.
46 To pacoengah Saul mah Philistinnawk to patom o ai boeh pongah, angmacae ohhaih ahmuen ah amlaem o let.
Then Saul went up from following the Philistines: and the Philistines went to their own place.
47 Saul mah Israel kaminawk to uk moe, a taeng ih misanawk to a tuk; Moab, Ammon kaminawk, Edom kaminawk, Zobah siangpahrangnawk hoi Philistinnawk to a tuk; a caehhaih ahmuen kruekah misatuk pazawk.
So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and whithersoever he turned himself, he vexed [them].
48 Anih mah misatuh kaminawk to pahruek moe, Amalek kaminawk to a tuk, Israel kaminawk to nihcae parokungnawk ih ban thung hoiah a pahlong.
And he gathered an host, and smote the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of them that spoiled them.
49 Saul ih capanawk loe Jonathan, Ishui hoi Malk-Ishua; a canu hnik ih ahmin loe, kacoeh to Merab, tiah ahmin sak moe, kanawk to Mikal, tiah sak.
Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Ishui, and Melchi-shua: and the names of his two daughters [were these; ] the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal:
50 Anih ih zu hmin loe Ahimaaz canu Ahinoam. Saul ih misatuh angraeng ahmin loe Ner capa Abner, Ner loe Saul ih ampa kanawk ah oh.
And the name of Saul’s wife [was] Ahinoam, the daughter of Ahimaaz: and the name of the captain of his host [was] Abner, the son of Ner, Saul’s uncle.
51 Saul ampa Kish hoi Abner ampa Ner loe, Abiel ih capa ah oh hoi.
And Kish [was] the father of Saul; and Ner the father of Abner [was] the son of Abiel.
52 Saul hing nathung Philistinnawk hoi kanung parai ah misa angtuk o; Saul mah mi kawbaktih doeh thacak moe, misahoih kami loe, angmah ih toksahkung ah a lak.
And there was sore war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any strong man, or any valiant man, he took him unto him.
