1 Samuel 12
1 Samuel mah Israel kaminawk boih khaeah, Khenah, Nang thuih o ih loknawk boih ka tahngaih moe, nangcae ukkung siangpahrang to kang suek pae boeh.
And Samuel saith unto all Israel, 'Lo, I have hearkened to your voice, to all that ye said to me, and I cause to reign over you a king,
2 Khenah, nangcae zaehoikung siangpahrang loe vaihi nangcae hmaa ah caeh boeh; kai loe mitong boeh moe, ka sam doeh pok boeh; khenah, ka caanawk doeh nangcae khaeah ni oh o; ka thendoeng nathuem hoi vaihni ni khoek to nangcae hmaa ah ka caeh.
and now, lo, the king is walking habitually before you, and I have become aged and gray-headed, and my sons, lo, they [are] with you, and I have walked habitually before you from my youth till this day.
3 Khenah, kai loe hae ah ka oh; kai mah mi ih maitaw tae maw ka lak pae? To tih ai boeh loe mi ih laa hrang maw ka lak pae vai? To tih ai boeh loe mi maw ka ling moe, mi maw ka pacaekthlaek vai? To tih ai boeh loe ka mik maeng hanah, mi ih ban khae hoiah maw bokhaih tangqum to ka talawk vai? Sithaw hmaa hoi Sithaw mah situi bawh ih kami hmaa ah thui oh; hae tiah ka sak ih hmuen hnukkung om nahaeloe, ka paek pathok let han, tiah a thuih.
'Lo, here [am] I; testify against me, over-against Jehovah, and over-against His anointed; whose ox have I taken, and whose ass have I taken, and whom have I oppressed; whom have I bruised, and of whose hand have I taken a ransom, and hide mine eyes with it? — and I restore to you.'

And they say, 'Thou hast not oppressed us, nor hast thou crushed us, nor hast thou taken from the hand of any one anything.'
5 Samuel mah nihcae khaeah, Ka ban ah minawk khae hoi lak ih hmuen tidoeh na hnu o ai, tiah Angraeng leo panoekkung ah oh, anih mah situi bawh ih kami doeh, vaihniah hnukkung ah oh, tiah a naa. Nihcae mah, Anih loe hnukung ah oh, tiah thuih o.
And he saith unto them, 'A witness [is] Jehovah against you: and a witness [is] His anointed this day, that ye have not found anything in my hand;' and they say, 'A witness.'
6 To pacoengah Samuel mah kaminawk khaeah, Angraeng mah Mosi hoi Aaron patoh moe, Izip prae thung hoiah nam panawk zaehoikung loe, Angraeng ni.
And Samuel saith unto the people, 'Jehovah — He who made Moses and Aaron, and who brought up your fathers out of the land of Egypt!
7 To pongah vaihi hae ah angdoe o duem ah; Angraeng mah nangcae hoi nam panawk khaeah toenghaih hoiah sak ih hmuennawk to kang thuih o boih han.
and, now, station yourselves, and I judge you before Jehovah, with all the righteous acts of Jehovah, which He did with you, and with your fathers.
8 Jakob Izip prae ah caeh pacoengah, nangcae ampanawk loe Angraeng khaeah tahmen hnikhaih hoiah a hangh o; to pongah Angraeng mah Mosi hoi Aaron to patoeh moe, nam panawk to Izip prae thung hoiah zaehhoih pacoengah, hae ahmuen ah khosaksak.
'When Jacob hath come in to Egypt, and your fathers cry unto Jehovah, then Jehovah sendeth Moses and Aaron, and they bring out your fathers from Egypt, and cause them to dwell in this place,
9 Toe nihcae mah na Angraeng Sithaw to pahnet o ving; to pongah nihcae to Hazor misatuh kaminawk ih angraeng Sisera ban ah, Philistin kaminawk ih ban hoi Moab siangpahrang ban ah ang phaksak, nihcae mah nangcae to ang tuk o.
and they forget Jehovah their God, and He selleth them into the hand of Sisera, head of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fight against them,
10 To naah nihcae mah Angraeng khaeah hang o, Angraeng to ka pahnawt o pongah, ka zae o moeng boeh; Baal sithaw hoi Ashtaroth kaminawk ih tok to ka sak pae o; toe ka misanawk ih ban thung hoiah vaihi na pahlong ah, to tiah nahaeloe na tok to ka sak o han boeh, tiah a thuih o.
and they cry unto Jehovah, and say, We have sinned, because we have forsaken Jehovah, and serve the Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and now, deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we serve Thee.
11 To naah Angraeng mah, Jerub-Baal, Bedan, Jephthah hoi Samuel cae to patoeh moe, na taengah kaom misa ban thung hoiah nangcae to pahlong pongah, nangcae loe kamongah kho na sak o.
'And Jehovah sendeth Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivereth you out of the hand of your enemies round about, and ye dwell confidently.
12 Toe nangcae tuk hanah angzo Ammon siangpahrang Nahash to na hnuk o: na Angraeng Sithaw to nangcae ih siangpahrang ah oh to mah, nangcae mah kai khaeah, To tih na ai ni; kaicae uk hanah siangpahrang ka koeh o, tiah nang thuih o.
'And ye see that Nahash king of the Bene-Ammon hath come against you, and ye say to me, Nay, but a king doth reign over us; and Jehovah your God [is] your king!
13 To pongah khenah, vaihi loe nangmacae mah na qoih o moe, nang hnik o ih siangpahrang loe hae ah oh boeh; khenah, Angraeng mah nangcae ukkung siangpahrang ang suek pae boeh.
And, now, lo, the king whom ye have chosen — whom ye have asked! and lo, Jehovah hath placed over you a king.
14 Angraeng to na zit o, a tok na sak pae o, a lok na tahngai pae o moe, Angraeng mah paek ih lok na aek o ai nahaeloe, nangcae hoi nangcae ukkung siangpahrang loe na Angraeng Sithaw hnukah pazui o thai poe tih.
'If ye fear Jehovah, and have served Him, and hearkened to His voice, then ye do not provoke the mouth of Jehovah, and ye have been — both ye and the king who hath reigned over you — after Jehovah your God.
15 Toe Angraeng ih lok na tahngai o ai moe, ang paek o ih lok to na aek o nahaeloe, nam panawk khaeah sak ih baktih toengah, nangcae nuiah Angraeng ih ban to krah tih.
'And if ye do not hearken to the voice of Jehovah — then ye have provoked the mouth of Jehovah, and the hand of Jehovah hath been against you, and against your fathers.
16 To pongah vaihi angdoe oh loe, nangcae mikhnuk ah Angraeng mah sak han ih, kalen parai hmuen to khen oh!
'Also now, station yourselves and see this great thing which Jehovah is doing before your eyes;
17 Vaihni loe cang aahhaih atue boeh na ai maw? Khopazih moe, kho angzohsak hanah, Angraeng to ka kawk han; siangpahrang na hnik o naah, Angraeng mikhnuk ah tih kasae hmuen maw na sak o, tiah na panoek o tih, tiah a naa.
is it not wheat-harvest to-day? I call unto Jehovah, and He doth give voices and rain; and know ye and see that your evil is great which ye have done in the eyes of Jehovah, to ask for you a king.'
18 To naah Samuel mah Angraeng to kawk, Angraeng mah to na niah khopazih hoi kho to angzohsak. To pongah kaminawk boih mah Angraeng hoi Samuel to paroeai zit o.
And Samuel calleth unto Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth voices and rain, on that day, and all the people greatly fear Jehovah and Samuel;
19 Kaminawk boih mah Samuel khaeah, Ka duek o han ai ah, na tamnanawk hanah Angraeng Sithaw khaeah lawk na thui paeh, siangpahrang ka hnik o pongah, kaicae zaehaih angthap aep boeh, tiah a naa o.
and all the people say unto Samuel, 'Pray for thy servants unto Jehovah thy God, and we do not die, for we have added to all our sins evil to ask for us a king.'
20 Samuel mah, Zii o hmah; hae tiah zaehaih na sak o cadoeh, Angraeng hnuk pazui ai ah kalah bangah angqoi o taak hmah; na poekhaih palungthin boih hoiah Angraeng tok to sah oh.
And Samuel saith unto the people, 'Fear not; ye have done all this evil; only, turn not aside from after Jehovah — and ye have served Jehovah with all your heart,
21 Tidoeh avang ai, atho om ai moe, pahlong thai ai hmuennawk hnukah caeh o hmah; to baktih hmuennawk loe azom pui ah ni oh.
and ye do not turn aside after the vain things which do not profit nor deliver, for they [are] vain,
22 Anih ih ahmin loe lensawk pongah, Angraeng mah angmah ih kaminawk to pahnawt mak ai; Angraeng mah nangcae to angmah ih kami ah suek hanah koehhaih oh.
for Jehovah doth not leave His people, on account of His great name; for Jehovah hath been pleased to make you to Him for a people.
23 Nangcae han lawkthui ai ah ka oh nahaeloe, Angraeng lok tahngai ai kami ah ni ka om tih, toe kahoih, katoeng loklam ni nangcae to kang patuk han;
'I, also, far be it from me to sin against Jehovah, by ceasing to pray for you, and I have directed you in the good and upright way;
24 toe Angraeng to na zit o moe, a tok to palungthin boih hoiah na sak o thai hanah acoe oh; nangcae han sak ih kalen parai hmuen to poek oh.
only, fear ye Jehovah, and ye have served Him in truth with all your heart, for see that which He hath made great with you;
25 Toe kahoih ai hmuen to na sak o toengtoeng nahaeloe, nangcae loe nangmacae ih siangpahrang hoi nawnto nam ro o tih, tiah a naa.
and if ye really do evil, both ye and your king are consumed.'
