1 Nangmi Kalatih khyang k’ang he aw! u naw a ning jah mhleimhlak ni? Nami mika hmuh yea Jesuh Khritaw kutlamktung üng a thiha mawng angsinga mdana kya ye se.
Foolish Galatians! Who has been enchanting you – you before whose eyes Jesus Christ was depicted on the cross?
2 Thuma pyen nami läka phäha Pamhnama Ngmüimkhya nami yahki aw? Thangkdaw ngja u lü nami jumeia phäha Pamhnama Ngmüimkhya nami yahki aw? Ning jah kthäh veng na mtheh ua.
Here is the one thing that I want to find out from you – Did you receive the Spirit as the result of obedience to Law, or of your having listened with faith?
3 Ihlawka nami yawki ni! Pamhnama Ngmüimkhya am tünei u lü atuh nami mäta khyaihnak am nami kpäng vai nami ngja hlüki aw?
Can you be so foolish? After beginning with what is spiritual, do you now end with what is external?
4 Nami hmuh ngjak he avan amdanga kyaki tinak aw? Iyaw hlenga ta kya vü.
Did you go through so much to no purpose? – if indeed it really was to no purpose!
5 Pamhnam naw Ngmüimkhya ning jah pe lü khutbi bi lü, müncan he nami ksunga a jah mdan hin Thum nami läka phäha aw, am acunüng thangkdaw ngja u lü nami jumeia phäha aw?
He who supplies you abundantly with his Spirit and endows you with such powers – does he do this as the result of obedience to Law? Or as the result of your having listened with faith?
6 Abrahama mawng cen ngai süm u; “Pamhnam jum se, a jumnaka phäha Pamhnam naw ngdüngdaikia a ngaih pet” tia cangcim üng a ng’yuka kba.
It is just as it was with Abraham – he had faith in God, and his faith was regarded by God as righteousness.
7 Acunakyase Abrahama cana kcang he cun jumnak takia khyanga kyaki he ti cun nami süm vai sü.
You see, then, that those whose lives are based on faith are the sons of Abraham.
8 Pamhnam naw khyangmjükce he ami jumnak am amät üng jah ngdüngdaisak khai tia cangcim naw pyen khawiki. Acunakyase cangcim naw, “Pamhnam naw nang üngka naw khyangmjü naküt dawkyanak jah pe khai” tia Abrahama veia thangkdaw a sang cen.
And scripture, foreseeing that God would pronounce the Gentiles righteous as the result of faith, foretold the good news to Abraham in the words – “Through you all the Gentiles will be blessed.”
9 Acunakyase Abraham naw jumei lü dawkyanak a yaha kba; jumeiki naküt naw dawkyanak yah hngaki he.
And, therefore, those whose lives are based on faith share the blessings bestowed on the faith of Abraham.
10 Thum üp na u lü läkie cun yüncenaka keha awmki he. Isetiakyaküng, “Thum cauk üng ng’yuki naküt am läki naküt cun Pamhnama yüncenaka keha awmki” tia cangcim naw a pyena phäha kyaki.
All who rely on obedience to Law are under a curse, for scripture says – “Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all that is written in the book of the Law, and do it.”
11 “A jumnaka phäh Pamhnam naw a ngdüngdaisaka khyang däng ni a xün khawm” tia cangcim üng ng’yukia kyase, u pi Thum läka phäha Pamhnama vei ä ngsungpyunki ti ngsingki.
Again, it is evident that no one is pronounced righteous before God through Law, for we read – “Through faith the righteous will find life.”
12 Thum cun jumnak üng am sengei. “Thuma ti naküt läki xüng khai” tia ni cangcim naw a pyen ve.
But the Law is not based on faith; no, its words are – “Those who practice these precepts will find life through them.”
13 “Thing üng taih naküt cun Pamhnama yüncea kyaki” tia cangcim naw a pyena kyase, mi phäha Khritaw amät yüncea ngpawh kyu lü Thuma lawpüia yüncenak üngka jah thawngki.
Christ ransomed us from the curse pronounced in the Law, by taking the curse on himself for us, for scripture says – “Cursed is anyone who is hanged on a tree.”
14 Pamhnam naw Abrahama veia a khyütam cen khyangmjükce he naw pi Khritaw Jesuh üngka ami yahnak hnga vaia, Khritaw naw ahin a pawha kyaki. Acunüng Pamhnama khyütamnaka Ngmüimkhya cun mimi naw pi jumnak am mi yahnak hnga vaia kyaki.
And this he did that the blessing given to Abraham might be extended to the Gentiles through their union with Jesus Christ; that so, through our faith, we also might receive the promised gift of the Spirit.
15 Ka püi he aw, msuimcäpnak am ka pyen khai: khyang nghngih naw iyaw ngaisim ni lü khyütam ani pawh käna u naw am kpyeh thei, mkhahsia pi am kya khawi.
To take an illustration, friends, from daily life – No one sets aside even an agreement between two people, when once it has been confirmed, nor do they add conditions to it.
16 Pamhnam naw Abraham la a mjükphyüia veia khyütam pawhki. Ngthungcim naw khawjah a pyena kba, “Mjükphyüiea” tia am kya lü khyang mat däng pyena kba, “Mjükphyüia” tia ni akya ve. Acun cun Khritawa kyaki.
Now it was to Abraham that the promises were made, “and to his offspring.” It was not said “to his offsprings,” as if many persons were meant, but the words were “to your offspring,” showing that one person was meant – and that was Christ.
17 Ka pyen hlü cun: Pamhnam naw Abrahama veia ngthumkhän ta lü acun kümsak khaia khyütam pawhki. Kum phyakphyü la thumkip käna peta Thum naw Pamhnama ngthumkhän am kpyeh thei. Pamhnama khyütam pi am pyaisak thei.
My point is this – An agreement already confirmed by God cannot be canceled by the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, so as to cause the promise to be set aside.
18 Pamhnama khawh yet hin Thum üng sengkia akya üng Pamhnama khyütam üng sengkia am kya hlü ti ve. Acunsepi a khyütama phäha ni Pamhnam naw acuna khawh yet cun Abraham üng a pet ve.
If our heritage is the result of Law, then it has ceased to be the result of a promise. Yet God conferred it on Abraham by a promise.
19 Acunüng Thum cun ia ham vai ni? Katnak cun katnaka kyaki ti mdan khaia kyaki. Thum cun khyütam pet Abrahama mjükphyüia pha law däa khäng khaia pawha kyaki. Thum cun khankhawngsä naw ngsä mata kut üng a peta kyaki.
What, then, you ask, was the use of the Law? It was a later addition, to make people conscious of their wrongdoings, and intended to last only until the coming of that offspring to whom the promise had been made; and it was delivered through angels by a mediator.
20 Acunsepi khyang mat däng a bawi üng ngsä mat am hlü ti; Mhnam ta mat däng ni.
Now mediation implies more than one person, but God is one only.
21 Am acunüng Thum naw Pamhnama khyütam he jah tuki aw? Am jah tu! Nghngicim naw xünak a yahnak vai Thum yahkia akya vai sü, khyang naküt naw Thum läklam lü Pamhnama veia ngdüngdai khai su.
Does that set the Law in opposition to God’s promises? Heaven forbid! For, if a Law had been given capable of bestowing life, then righteousness would have actually owed its existence to Law.
22 Cunsepi cangcim naw, “Khawmdek avan cun katnak johita keha awmki; Jesuh Khritaw jumei phäha yah vai aphu ka a jah yeta khyütam cun jumeiki he üng jah peta kyaki” a ti.
But the words of scripture represent the whole world as being in bondage to sin, so that the promised blessing, dependent, as it is, on faith in Jesus Christ, may be given to those who have faith in him.
23 Cunsepi jumeinaka kcün am a pha law ham üng, jumeinak a ngdang law veicäpa Thum naw thawngkyuma mäiha jah küpki.
Before the coming of faith, we were kept under the guard of the Law, in bondage, awaiting the faith that was destined to be revealed.
24 Acunakyase jumeinak üng Pamhnama veia mi ngdüngdainak vaia, Khritaw am a pha law ham üng Thum naw jah ngkhapüikia kyaki.
Thus the Law has proved a guide to lead us to Christ, in order that we may be pronounced righteous as the result of faith.
25 Atuh jumeinaka kcün pha lawki. Thum naw am jah ngkhahpüi ti.
But now that faith has come we no longer need a guide.
26 Jumnak am Khritaw Jesuh üng Pamhnama ca nami kya bäihki.
For you are all sons of God, through your faith in Christ Jesus.
27 Khritaw üng baptican nami khanki; amät Khritaw nami suiawiki ni.
For all of you who were baptized into union with Christ clothed yourselves with Christ.
28 Acunakyase Judah khyang ja khyangmjükce he, m'ya la ä m'ya, nghnumi he la kpamie hngalangnak am awm; Jesuh Khritaw üng nami van pum mata nami kyaki.
All distinctions between Jew and Greek, slave and free, male and female, have vanished; for in union with Christ Jesus you are all one.
29 Khritawa ka nami kya üng Abrahama mjükphyüi hea kya u lü Pamhnama khyütam nami yah khai.
And, since you belong to Christ, it follows that you are Abraham’s offspring and, under the promise, sharers in the inheritance.
