1 Ndi wabwino munthu wosauka amene amayenda mu ungwiro, aposa munthu wopusa woyankhula zokhota.
Better a poor man who walks with integrity than a fool whose lips are perverse.
2 Si bwino kuti munthu akhale wopanda nzeru; ndipo munthu woyenda mofulumira amaphonya njira.
Even zeal is no good without knowledge, and he who hurries his footsteps misses the mark.
3 Uchitsiru wa munthu umamubweretsera zovuta, mtima wake umakwiyira Yehova.
A man’s own folly subverts his way, yet his heart rages against the LORD.
4 Chuma chimachulukitsa abwenzi; koma munthu wosauka bwenzi lake limamuthawa.
Wealth attracts many friends, but a poor man is deserted by his friend.
5 Mboni yonama sidzalephera kulangidwa; ndipo iye amene amanena mabodza sadzapulumuka.
A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who utters lies will not escape.
6 Anthu ambiri amafuna munthu wopatsa kuti awakomere mtima, ndipo munthu amene amapereka mphatso ndi bwenzi la munthu aliyense.
Many seek the favor of the prince, and everyone is a friend of the gift giver.
7 Ngati munthu wosauka abale ake omwe amadana naye, nanji abwenzi ake tsono! Iwo adzamuthawa kupita kutali. Amayesa kuwatsatira mowapembedza koma iwo samapezeka konse.
All the brothers of a poor man hate him— how much more do his friends avoid him! He may pursue them with pleading, but they are nowhere to be found.
8 Iye amene amapeza nzeru ndiye kuti amakonda moyo wake. Wosamalitsa kukhala wanzeru, zinthu zimamuyendera bwino.
He who acquires wisdom loves himself; one who safeguards understanding will find success.
9 Mboni yonama sidzalephera kulangidwa, ndipo iye amene amanena mabodza adzawonongeka.

10 Nʼkosayenera kuti chitsiru chizikhala ndi moyo wamanyado, nanjinso kuti kapolo azilamulira akalonga!
Luxury is unseemly for a fool— how much worse for a slave to rule over princes!
11 Nzeru zimapangitsa munthu kukhala wosakwiya msanga; ulemerero wake uli posalabadira kuchitiridwa zoyipa.
A man’s insight gives him patience, and his virtue is to overlook an offense.
12 Mkwiyo wa mfumu uli ngati kubangula kwa mkango, koma kukoma mtima kwake kuli ngati mame pa udzu.
A king’s rage is like the roar of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.
13 Mwana wopusa ndiye tsoka la abambo ake ndipo mkazi wolongolola ndi wotopetsa ngati mvula yamvumbi.
A foolish son is his father’s ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping.
14 Nyumba ndi chuma ndiye cholowa chochokera kwa makolo; koma mkazi wanzeru ndi wochokera kwa Yehova.
Houses and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.
15 Ulesi umagonetsa tulo tofa nato ndipo munthu wosatakataka amakhala ndi njala.
Laziness brings on deep sleep, and an idle soul will suffer hunger.
16 Amene amamvera malangizo amasunga moyo wake, koma amene sasamala malamulo a Yehova adzafa.
He who keeps a commandment preserves his soul, but he who is careless in his ways will die.
17 Amene amakomera mtima osauka amachita ngati wakongoletsa Yehova, ndipo Yehovayo ndiye adzamubwezere.
Kindness to the poor is a loan to the LORD, and He will repay the lender.
18 Langa mwana wako, chiyembekezo chikanalipo; ngati sutero udzawononga moyo wake.
Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be party to his death.
19 Munthu waukali woopsa ayenera kulandira chilango; pakuti akamulekelera ndiye zidzayipa kuposa kale.
A man of great anger must pay the penalty; if you rescue him, you will have to do so again.
20 Mvera uphungu ndipo landira malangizo; pa mapeto pake udzakhala wanzeru.
Listen to counsel and accept discipline, that you may be wise the rest of your days.
21 Munthu amakonzekera zambiri mu mtima mwake, koma cholinga cha Yehova ndiye chidzachitike.
Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the purpose of the LORD will prevail.
22 Chimene munthu amafuna ndi chikondi chosatha; nʼkwabwino kukhala wosauka kusiyana ndi kukhala wabodza.
The desire of a man is loving devotion; better to be poor than a liar.
23 Kuopa Yehova kumabweretsa moyo; wotereyo amakhala mu mtendere; ndiye kuti choyipa sichidzamugwera.
The fear of the LORD leads to life, that one may rest content, without visitation from harm.
24 Munthu waulesi amapisa dzanja lake mʼmbale; koma sangathe kufikitsa dzanja lakelo pakamwa pake.
The slacker buries his hand in the dish; he will not even bring it back to his mouth.
25 Menya munthu wonyoza, ndipo anthu opanda nzeru adzachenjererapo; dzudzula munthu wozindikira zinthu, ndipo iye adzapezapo chidziwitso.
Strike a mocker, and the simple will beware; rebuke the discerning man, and he will gain knowledge.
26 Mwana wochita ndewu ndi abambo ake ndi kuthamangitsa amayi ake, ndi mwana wochititsa manyazi ndi wonyozetsa.
He who assaults his father or evicts his mother is a son who brings shame and disgrace.
27 Mwana wanga, ukaleka kumvera malangizo, udzapatukana ndi mawu opatsa nzeru.
If you cease to hear instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.
28 Mboni yopanda pake imanyoza cholungama, ndipo pakamwa pa anthu oyipa pamameza zoyipa.
A corrupt witness mocks justice, and a wicked mouth swallows iniquity.
29 Chilango chakonzedwa kale kuti chigwere anthu oyipa, ndipo mkwapulo wakonzedwa kale kuti ukwapule misana ya anthu opusa.
Judgments are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
