< Mateyu 14 >

1 Pa nthawi imeneyo Mfumu Herode anamva za mbiri ya Yesu.
At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report of Jesus,
2 Ndipo iye anati kwa antchito ake, “Uyu ndi Yohane Mʼbatizi; iye wauka kwa akufa! Ichi ndi chifukwa chake mphamvu zodabwitsa zikugwira ntchito mwa iye.”
and he said to his boys, This is John the immerser. He has risen from the dead, and because of this the powers work in him.
3 Pakuti Herode anamugwira Yohane ndi kumumanga ndipo anamuyika mʼndende chifukwa cha Herodia mkazi wa mʼbale wake Filipo.
For Herod having arrested John, bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife.
4 Chifukwa Yohane anakhala akunena kwa iye kuti, “Sichololedwa kwa inu kutenga mkaziyo.”
For John said to him, It is not permitted for thee to have her.
5 Herode anafuna kupha Yohane koma iye anaopa anthu chifukwa anamuyesa iye mneneri.
And though he wanted to kill him, he feared the multitude because they held him as a prophet.
6 Pa tsiku lokumbukira kubadwa kwa Herode, mwana wamkazi wa Herodia anavina pamaso pa anthu ndipo anasangalatsa kwambiri.
But Herod's birthday being brought, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod.
7 Kotero Herode analonjeza ndi lumbiro kumupatsa chilichonse chimene mwanayo angamupemphe.
Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask.
8 Ndipo atamupangira amayi ake anati, “Mundipatse pomwe pano mutu wa Yohane Mʼbatizi mʼmbale.”
And she, having been put forward by her mother, says, Give me here on a platter the head of John the immerser.
9 Mfumuyo inamva chisoni koma chifukwa cha lumbiro lake ndi alendo amene anali pa phwando lake analamulira kuti chofuna chake chipatsidwe;
And he became sad, but because of the oaths, and of those dining together, the king commanded it to be given.
10 ndipo anakadula mutu wa Yohane mʼndende.
And having sent, he beheaded John in the prison.
11 Mutu wake anawubweretsa mʼmbale ndi kumupatsa mtsikanayo amene anawutengera kwa amayi ake.
And his head was brought on a platter, and given to the maiden, and she brought it to her mother.
12 Ophunzira a Yohane anabwera nadzatenga mtembo wake ndi kukawuyika mʼmanda. Pomwepo iwo anapita kukamuwuza Yesu.
And after coming, his disciples took up the body and buried it, and having gone, they informed Jesus.
13 Yesu atamva zimene zinachitika, anachoka pa bwato mwachinsinsi kupita kumalo a yekha. Magulu a anthu atamva izi anamutsatira Iye poyenda pansi kuchokera ku mizinda.
Now when Jesus heard it, he departed from there in a boat into a desolate place in private. And when the multitudes heard of it, they followed him on foot from the cities.
14 Yesu atafika ku mtunda, ndi kuona gulu lalikulu la anthu, Iye anamva nawo chifundo ndipo anachiritsa odwala awo.
And having come forth, Jesus saw a great multitude, and he felt compassion toward them, and healed the feeble of them.
15 Kutayamba mdima, ophunzira anabwera kwa Iye nati, “Kuno ndi kutchire ndipo kwayamba kale kuda. Awuzeni anthu azipita kuti afike ku midzi ndi kukadzigulira zakudya.”
And having become evening, his disciples came to him, saying, The place is desolate, and the hour is now past. Send the multitudes away, so that having gone into the villages, they may buy food for themselves.
16 Yesu anawayankha kuti, “Sikofunika kuti azipita. Inuyo muwapatse kanthu kuti adye.”
But Jesus said to them, They have no need to depart. Give ye them to eat.
17 Iwo anayankha kuti, “Tili ndi malofu asanu okha a buledi ndi nsomba ziwiri.”
And they say to him, We have not here, except five loaves and two fishes.
18 Koma Iye anati, “Bweretsani kwa Ine.”
But he said, Bring them here to me.
19 Analamula anthu kuti akhale pansi pa udzu ndipo anatenga buledi musanu ndi nsomba ziwiri nayangʼana kumwamba, nayamika nagawa bulediyo. Kenaka anapereka bulediyo kwa ophunzira ake ndipo ophunzirawo anagawira anthu.
And after commanding the multitudes to sit down on the grass, having taken the five loaves, and the two fishes, having looking up to heaven, he blessed. And having broken them in pieces, he gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.
20 Onse anadya nakhuta ndipo ophunzira anatola zotsalira ndi kudzaza madengu khumi ndi awiri.
And they all ate, and were filled. And they took up that which remained of the fragments, twelve baskets full.
21 Chiwerengero cha amene anadya kupatulako amayi ndi ana chinali pafupifupi amuna 5,000.
And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
22 Nthawi yomweyo anawawuza ophunzira ake kuti alowe mʼbwato ndi kuti atsogole kupita kutsidya lina pamene Iye ankawuza anthu kuti azipita kwawo.
And straightaway Jesus compelled the disciples to enter into the boat, and to go ahead of him to the other side, until he would dismiss the multitudes.
23 Atatha kuwawuza kuti azipita kwawo, Iye anakwera ku phiri yekha kukapemphera. Pamene kumada anali kumeneko yekha.
And having dismissed the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain in private to pray. And having become evening, he was there alone.
24 Pamenepo nʼkuti bwato litapita patali pangʼono kuchokera ku mtunda ndipo linavutika ndi mafunde chifukwa mphepo inkawomba mokumana nalo.
But the boat was now in the midst of the sea, being buffeted by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
25 Pa ora lachinayi usiku, Yesu anabwera kwa iwo akuyendabe pa nyanja.
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking upon the sea.
26 Ophunzira atamuona akuyenda pa nyanja, anaopa nati, “Ndi mzukwa!” Ndipo analira chifukwa cha mantha.
And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a ghost, and they cried out from fear.
27 Koma Yesu nthawi yomweyo anawawuza kuti, “Limbani mtima! Ndine, musaope.”
But straightaway Jesus spoke to them, saying, Cheer up. It is I, fear not.
28 Petro anayankha nati, “Ambuye ngati ndinu, mundiwuze ndibwere kuli inuko pa madzipo.”
And having answered him, Peter said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come to thee on the waters.
29 Iye anati, “Bwera.” Pamenepo Petro anatuluka mʼbwato ndipo anayenda pa madzi kupita kwa Yesu.
And he said, Come. And having come down from the boat, Peter walked upon the water to go to Jesus.
30 Koma ataona mphepo, iye anachita mantha ndipo anayamba kumira, nafuwula nati, “Ambuye ndipulumutseni!”
But seeing the boisterous wind, he was afraid, and having begun to sink, he cried out, saying, Lord, save me.
31 Ndipo mofulumira Yesu anatambasula dzanja lake namugwira iye, nati, “Iwe wachikhulupiriro chochepa, bwanji unakayika?”
And straightaway having stretched forth his hand, Jesus took hold of him, and says to him, O thou of little faith, why did thou doubt?
32 Ndipo atalowa mʼbwato mphepo inaleka.
And when they entered into the boat, the wind ceased.
33 Pamenepo amene anali mʼbwato anamulambira Iye, nati, “Zoonadi, Inu ndinu Mwana wa Mulungu.”
And those who came in the boat worshiped him, saying, Thou really are the Son of God.
34 Atawoloka, anafika ku Genesareti.
And when they crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.
35 Anthu akumeneko atamuzindikira Yesu, iwo anatumiza mawu kwa onse ozungulira deralo. Anthu anabwera ndi odwala awo onse kwa Iye.
And when they recognized him, the men of that place sent into that whole region round about, and brought to him all those faring badly.
36 Ndipo anamupempha alole kuti akhudze mphonje ya mkanjo wake, ndipo onse amene anamukhudza anachiritsidwa.
And they besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment. And as many as touched were healed.
