1 Abale anga, ambiri musakhale aphunzitsi chifukwa mumadziwa kuti aphunzitsife tidzaweruzidwa mowuma kuposa anthu ena onse.
Not, many teachers, become ye, my brethren, knowing that, a severer sentence, shall ye receive;
2 Tonsefe timapunthwa mʼnjira zambiri. Ngati wina salakwa poyankhula, ameneyo ndi munthu wangwiro, wodziwa kuyangʼanira bwino thupi lake lonse.
For, oft, are we stumbling, one and all: If anyone, in word, doth not stumble, the same, is a mature man, able to curb even the whole body.
3 Tikayika tizitsulo mʼkamwa mwa akavalo kuti atimvere, timatha kuwongolera thupi lake lonse.
Now, if, the horses bits, into their mouths, we thrust, to the end they may be yielding to us, their whole body also, do we turn about.
4 Taonani sitima zapamadzi. Ngakhale ndi zazikulu kwambiri ndipo zimakankhidwa ndi mphepo yamphamvu, zimawongoleredwa ndi tsigiro lalingʼono kulikonse kumene woyendetsayo akufuna kupita.
Lo! the ships also, large as they are, and, by rough winds, driven along, are turned about by a very small helm, whithersoever the impulse of the steersman inclineth.
5 Momwemonso, lilime ndi kachiwalo kakangʼono ka thupi koma limadzitama kuti nʼkuchita zikuluzikulu. Tangoganizirani za nkhalango yayikulu imene ingapse ndi kalawi kamoto koyamba mochepa.
So, also, the tongue, is, a little member, and yet, of great things, maketh boast. Lo! how small a fire, kindleth, how great a forest;
6 Lilime nalonso ndi moto, dziko la zoyipa pakati pa ziwalo za thupi. Limawononga munthu yense wathunthu. Limayika zonse za moyo wake pa moto, ndipo moto wake ndi wochokera ku gehena. (Geenna )
And, the tongue, is a fire, —[as], the world of unrighteousness, the tongue, becometh fixed among our members, that which defileth the whole body and setteth on fire the wheel of our natural life, and is set on fire, by gehenna! (Geenna )
7 Mitundu yonse ya nyama, ya mbalame, ya zokwawa ndi ya zolengedwa za mʼnyanja, zikuwetedwa ndipo munthu wakhala akuziweta,
For, every nature—both of wild beasts and of birds, both of reptiles and of things in the sea, is to be tamed, and hath been tamed, by the human nature;
8 koma palibe munthu amene angaweta lilime. Lilime ndipo silitha kupuma, ndi lodzaza ndi ululu wakupha.
But, the tongue, none of mankind can, tame, —A restless mischief! Full of deadly poison
9 Ndi lilime lomwelo timatamanda Ambuye ndi Atate athu, komanso ndi lilime lomwelo timalalatira anthu, amene anapangidwa mʼchifanizo cha Mulungu.
Therewith, are we blessing our Lord and Father, and, therewith, we are cursing the men who, after the likeness of God, have been brought into being!
10 Mʼkamwa momwemo mutuluka matamando ndi kulalata. Abale anga, zisamatero ayi.
Out of the same mouth, come forth blessing and cursing! Not meet, my brethren, for, these things, thus, to be coming to pass!
11 Kodi madzi abwino ndi a mchere angatuluke pa kasupe mmodzi?
Doth, the fountain, out of the same opening, teem forth the sweet and the bitter?
12 Abale anga, kodi mtengo wa mkuyu nʼkubala mphesa, kapena mtengo wampesa nʼkubala nkhuyu? Kasupe wa madzi a mchere sangatulutsenso madzi abwino.
Is it possible, my brethren, for, a fig-tree, to produce, olives, or, a vine, figs? Neither can, salt, water yield, sweet.
13 Ndani mwa inu amene ndi wanzeru ndi womvetsa zinthu? Mulekeni aonetse ndi makhalidwe ake abwino kuti nzeru ndiye zikutsogolera kudzichepetsa kwake ndi zochita zake
Who is wise and well-instructed among you? Let him show, out of his comely behaviour, his works, in meekness of wisdom.
14 Koma ngati muli ndi mtima wakaduka ndi odzikonda, musadzitamandire kapena kukana choonadi.
But, if, bitter jealousy, ye have, and rivalry, in your hearts; be not boasting and showing yourselves false against the truth!
15 “Nzeru” zotere sizochokera kumwamba koma ndi za mʼdziko lapansi, si zauzimu koma ndi za ziwanda.
This wisdom is not one, from above, coming down, but is earthly, born of the soul, demoniacal!
16 Pakuti pamene pali kaduka ndi kudzikonda pomweponso pamakhala chisokonezo ndi zochitika zoyipa zonse.
For, where jealousy and rivalry are, there, are anarchy and every ignoble deed.
17 Koma nzeru imene imachoka kumwamba, poyamba ndi yangwiro, ndi yokonda mtendere, yoganizira za ena, yogonjera, yodzaza ndi chifundo ndi chipatso chabwino, yosakondera ndi yoona mtima.
But, the wisdom from above, is—first pure, then peaceable, reasonable, easy to be entreated, fraught with mercy and good fruits, without partiality, without hypocrisy.
18 Anthu amtendere amene amadzala mtendere amakolola chilungamo.
And, in harvest of righteousness, with peace, is sown by them that make peace.
