1 Patapita nthawi, mfumu ya Aamoni inamwalira, ndipo mwana wake Hanuni analowa ufumu mʼmalo mwake.
After this, the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place.
David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
3 atsogoleri a ankhondo a Aamoni anawuza Hanuni mbuye wawo kuti, “Kodi mukuganiza kuti Davide akupereka ulemu kwa abambo anu potumiza anthuwa kwa inu kudzapepesa? Kodi Davide sanawatumize anthuwa kuti adzaone mzinda wanu ndi kuchita ukazitape ndi cholinga chofuna kuwulanda?”
But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun their lord, “Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Hasn’t David sent his servants to you to search the city, to spy it out, and to overthrow it?”
4 Choncho Hanuni anagwira anthu amene Davide anawatuma aja ndipo anameta munthu aliyense mbali imodzi ya ndevu zake, ndi kudula zovala zake pakati mʼchiwuno mpaka matako kuonekera, ndipo anawabweza kwawo.
So Hanun took David’s servants, shaved off one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
5 Atamufotokozera Davide zimenezi, iye anatuma amithenga kukakumana ndi anthuwo chifukwa anali ndi manyazi kwambiri. Mfumu inati, “Mukhale ku Yeriko mpaka ndevu zanu zitakula, ndipo kenaka mubwere kuno.”
When they told David this, he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. The king said, “Wait at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”
6 Aamoni atazindikira kuti amukwiyitsa kwambiri Davide, anakapeza ankhondo oyenda pansi aganyu okwanira 20,000 kuchokera ku Asiriya wa ku Beti Rehobu ndi Aramu-Zoba, komanso ankhondo 1,000 kwa mfumu Maaka ndiponso ankhondo 22,000 ochokera ku Tobu.
When the children of Ammon saw that they had become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth Rehob and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with one thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.
7 Davide atamva zimenezi, anatumiza Yowabu ndi gulu lonse la ankhondo amphamvu.
When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men.
8 Aamoni anatuluka ndi kukhala mʼmizere ya nkhondo pa chipata cha mzinda wawo, pamene Aaramu a ku Aramu-Zoba ndi Rehobu ndi ankhondo a ku Tobu ndi Maaka anali kwa wokha ku malo wopanda mitengo.
The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate. The Syrians of Zobah and of Rehob and the men of Tob and Maacah were by themselves in the field.
9 Yowabu ataona kuti kunali mizere ya ankhondo kutsogolo kwake ndi kumbuyo kwake, iye anasankha ena mwa ankhondo a Israeli odziwa kuchita bwino nkhondo ndipo anawayika kuti amenyane ndi Aaramu.
Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel and put them in array against the Syrians.
10 Iye anayika ankhondo ena otsalawo mʼmanja mwa Abisai mʼbale wake ndipo anawayika kuti amenyane ndi Aamoni.
The rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and he put them in array against the children of Ammon.
11 Yowabu anati, “Ngati Aaramu andipose mphamvu, iwe ubwere udzandipulumutse. Koma ngati Aamoni akupose mphamvu, ine ndidzabwera kudzakupulumutsa.
He said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come and help you.
12 Limba mtima ndipo timenyane nawo mopanda mantha chifukwa cha anthu athu ndi mizinda ya Mulungu wathu. Yehova achite chomukomera pamaso pake.”
Be courageous, and let’s be strong for our people and for the cities of our God; and may Yahweh do what seems good to him.”
13 Choncho Yowabu ndi ankhondo amene anali naye anapita kukamenyana ndi Aaramu, ndipo iwo anathawa pamaso pake.
So Joab and the people who were with him came near to the battle against the Syrians, and they fled before him.
14 Aamoni atazindikira kuti Aaramu akuthawa, iwo anathawanso pamaso pa Abisai ndi kulowa mu mzinda. Nkhondo itatha, Yowabu anabwerera ku Yerusalemu.
When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon and came to Jerusalem.
15 Aaramu ataona kuti agonjetsedwa ndi Aisraeli, anasonkhananso.
When the Syrians saw that they were defeated by Israel, they gathered themselves together.
16 Hadadezeri anatumiza amithenga kukayitana Aaramu amene anali ku tsidya la Mtsinje, iwo anapita ku Helamu motsogozedwa ndi Sobaki mkulu wa ankhondo a Hadadezeri.
Hadadezer sent and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the River; and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the army of Hadadezer at their head.
17 Davide atawuzidwa zimenezi, iye anasonkhanitsa Aisraeli onse ndi kuwoloka Yorodani ndipo anapita ku Helamu. Aaramu anayima mʼmizere yawo yankhondo kukakumana ndi Davide ndipo anamenyana naye.
David was told that; and he gathered all Israel together, passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. The Syrians set themselves in array against David and fought with him.
18 Koma iwo anathawa pamaso pa Aisraeli, ndipo Davide anapha anthu okwera pa magaleta 700 ndi ankhondo oyenda pansi 40,000. Davide anaphanso Sobaki mtsogoleri wawo wankhondo ndipo anafera pomwepo.
The Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed seven hundred charioteers of the Syrians and forty thousand horsemen, and struck Shobach the captain of their army, so that he died there.
19 Mafumu onse amene anali pansi pa Hadadezeri ataona kuti agonjetsedwa ndi Aisraeli, iwo anachita mtendere ndi Aisraeli ndipo anakhala pansi pawo. Motero Aaramu anaopa kuthandizanso Aamoni.
When all the kings who were servants to Hadadezer saw that they were defeated before Israel, they made peace with Israel and served them. So the Syrians were afraid to help the children of Ammon any more.
