Genesis 20

1 Gikan didto mipanaw si Abraham padulong sa yuta sa Habagatan, ug napahaluna siya sa taliwala sa Cades ug Shur, ug nagpuyo siya nga dumuloong sa Gerar.

Abraham left Mamre and moved southwest to the Negev desert and lived in a place named Gerar, between Kadesh and Shur.

2 Ug miingon si Abraham mahitungod kang Sara nga iyang asawa: Siya akong igsoon nga babaye. Ug si Abimelech nga hari sa Gerar, nagsugo ug nagpakuha kang Sara.

While he was there, he told people that Sarah was his sister, not his wife. Then King Abimelech of Gerar sent some of his men to Sarah, and they brought her to him to be his wife.

3 Apan ang Dios miadto kang Abimelech nga sa damgo sa kagabhion ug siya miingon kaniya: Tan-awa, daw patay na ikaw tungod sa babaye nga gikuha mo, kay siya asawa sa usa ka tawo.

But God appeared to Abimelech in a dream during the night and said to him, “Listen to me! You are going to die because the woman you took is another man’s wife.”

4 Apan si Abimelech wala pa makadangat haduol kaniya, ug miingon siya: Ginoo, patyon mo ba usab ang nasud nga matarung?

But Abimelech had not had sex [EUP] with her, so he said, “God, since the people of my nation and I am innocent; will you kill me?

5 Wala ba siya sa iyang kaugalingon mag-ingon kanako: Siya akong igsoon nga babaye, ug siya usab nag-ingon: Siya akong igsoon nga lalake? S pagkahingpit sa akong kasingkasing, ug sa pagkahinlo sa akong mga kamot gibuhat ko kini.

He told me, ‘She is my sister,’ and she also said, ‘He is my brother.’ I did this with pure motives and I [SYN] have not done anything wrong yet.”

6 Ug miingon kaniya ang Dios pinaagi sa damgo: Ako usab nahibalo nga sa pagkahingpit sa imong kasingkasing gibuhat mo kini; ug ako usab naghawid kanimo sa pagpakasala batok kanako, ug niini ikaw wala ko tugoti nga magtandog kaniya.

God said to him in another dream, “Yes, I know that your motives were pure. That is why I truly prevented you from sinning against me. I did not allow you to have sex [EUP] with her.

7 Busa, karon, iuli ang babaye sa iyang bana; kay manalagna siya, ug siya magaampo alang kanimo ug mabuhi ikaw. Ug kong dili mo pag-iuli siya, nasayud ka na nga sa pagkamatuod mamatay ka, uban ang tanang mga imo.

Now, return this man’s wife to her husband, because he is (a prophet/a man who receives messages from me). He will pray for you, and you will (remain alive/not die). But if you do not return her to him, you will certainly die, and all the members of your household will also certainly die.”

8 Ug si Abimelech mibangon pagsayo; ug gitawag niya ang tanan niyang mga ulipon, ug gisugilon niya kining tanan nga mga butang sa igdulungog nila; ug nangahadlok ang mga tawo sa hilabihan gayud.

Early the next morning, Abimelech summoned all his officials, and told them everything that had happened. When they heard that [MTY], his men were very afraid [that God would punish them].

9 Unya si Abraham gitawag ni Abimelech, ug iyang giingon siya: Unsa ba ang gibuhat mo kanamo? Ug diin ba makasala ako batok kanimo, nga nagdala man ikaw sa ibabaw nako ug sa ibabaw sa akong gingharian ug labing dakung sala? Gibuhat mo kanako ang dili angay nga imong buhaton.

Abimelech then summoned Abraham, and said to him, “You should not have done that to us [RHQ]! Did I do something wrong to you, with the result that you are causing me and the people in [MTY] my kingdom to be guilty of committing a great sin [RHQ]? You have done things to me that (should not be done/you should not have done)!”

10 Ug miingon si Abimelech kang Abraham: Unsa ba ang hingkit-an mo nga nagbuhat man ikaw niini?

Abimelech asked Abraham, “What was your reason for doing this?”

11 Ug si Abraham mitubag: Kay naghunahuna ako: Sa pagkatinuod, ang pagkahadlok sa Dios wala niining dapita ug ako pagapatyon nila tungod sa akong asawa.

Abraham replied, “I said that because I thought, ‘They certainly do not respect God in this place. If they don’t respect God, they will not respect relationships with others. [If I say she is my sister, they will try to pay me a bride price] to get her. But if I say she is my wife, they will kill me to get her.’

12 Ug labut pa usab siya gayud akong igsoon nga babaye, anak nga babaye sa akong amahan; apan dili anak nga babaye sa akong inahan, ug siya gipangasawa ko.

Besides, she really [can be considered] my sister, because she is the daughter of my father, although she is not the daughter of my mother. She is the daughter of another woman, and I married her.

13 Ug nahitabo nga sa gipagula ako sa Dios sa pagsuroysuroy gikan sa balay sa akong amahan, ako miingon kaniya: Kini mao ang kalooy nga imong ipakita kanako, nga sa tanan nga dapit diin kita makaabut mag ingon ka mahitungod kanako, siya akong igsoon nga lalake.

Later, when God told me to move away from my father’s household, I said to her, ‘This is the way you can show that you love me: Everywhere we go, say about me, “This is my brother.”’”

14 Unya si Abimelech mikuha ug mga carnero ug mga vaca, ug mga ulipon nga lalake ug mga ulipon nga babaye, ug gihatag niya kang Abraham, ug iyang giuli kaniya si Sara nga iyang asawa.

So Abimelech brought some sheep and cattle and male and female slaves and gave them to Abraham. And he returned his wife Sarah to him.

15 Ug miingon si Abimelech: Ania karon, ang yuta ko anaa sa atubangan mo, pumuyo ka kong hain ang ginahunahuna mo nga maayo.

And Abimelech said to him, “Look! All my land is here in front of you. Live in whatever place you like!”

16 Ug miingon siya kang Sara: Ania karon, gihatagan ko ug usa ka libo nga salapi ang imong igsoon nga lalake; ania karon, siya mao ang tabil sa imong mga mata, sa tanang kauban nimo; tungod niining tanan ginamatarung ikaw.

And he said to Sarah, “Look here, I am giving 1,000 pieces of silver to your brother. This is to insure that no one will [bring up this matter again and] say that I have done something wrong. [EUP, IDM]”

17 Ug si Abraham nag-ampo sa Dios, ug ang Dios nag-ayo kang Abimelech, ug sa iyang asawa, ug sa iyang mga ulipon nga babaye, ug nanag-anak sila.

Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech’s wife and his slave girls so that they could become pregnant.

18 Kay giserhan gayud ni Jehova ang tanan nga taguangkan sa panimalay ni Abimelech tungod kang Sara nga asawa ni Abraham.

This was because Yahweh had caused it to be impossible for any of the women in Abimelech’s household to bear children, because Abimelech had taken Abraham’s wife Sarah.
