Exodo 20

1 Ug ang Dios misulti niining tanan nga mga pulong, nga nagaingon:

Then God said this [to the Israeli people: ]

2 Ako mao si Jehova nga imong Dios, nga nagbawi kanimo gikan sa yuta sa Egipto gikan sa balay sa pagkaulipon.

“I am Yahweh God, the one you [worship]. I am the one who brought you out of Egypt. I am the one who freed you from being slaves [there].

3 Dili ka magbaton ug lain nga mga dios sa atubangan ko.

[So] you must worship [only] me; you must not worship any other god.

4 Alang kanimo dili ka magbuhat ug usa ka larawan nga linilok bisan sa dagway sa bisan unsang butanga nga atua sa itaas sa langit, kun dinhi sa ilalum sa yuta, kun sa anaa sa tubig sa ilalum sa yuta:

You must not carve/make for yourselves any idol that represents anything in the sky or that is on the ground or that is in the water under the ground/earth.

5 Dili mo iyukbo ang imong kaugalingon kanila, ni mag-alagad kanila; kay ako si Jehova nga imong Dios, mao ang Dios nga abughoan, nga nagadu-aw sa pagkadautan sa mga amahan sa ibabaw sa mga anak, sa ibabaw sa ikatolo ug sa ibabaw sa ikaupat ka kaliwatan sa mga nagadumot kanako,

You must not bow down to any idol and worship it, because I am Yahweh God, and I (am very jealous/want you to worship me only). I will punish those who sin and hate me. I will punish not only them, but I will punish (their descendants, down to the third and fourth generation/their children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren).

6 Ug nagapakita ako sa mahigugmaong kalolot alang sa linibo kanila nga nahigugma kanako, ug nagabantay sa akong mga sugo.

But I will steadfastly love thousands of generations of those who love me and obey my commandments (OR, I will love for thousands of generations.)

7 Dili mo paggamiton ang ngalan ni Jehova nga imong Dios sa pasipala; kay si Jehova dili mag-isip nga walay sala niadtong nagagamit sa iyang ngalan sa pasipala.

Do not use my name carelessly (OR, for wrong/evil purposes), because I am Yahweh God, the one whom you [should worship], and I will certainly punish those who use my name for wrong/evil purposes [LIT].

8 Hinumduman mo ang adlaw nga igpapahulay, aron sa pagbalaan niini.

Do not forget that the seventh day [of every week] is mine, so dedicate those days to me.

9 Sa unom ka adlaw magbuhat ka, ug buhaton mo ang tanan nga imong bulohaton;

There are six days each week for you to do all your work,

10 Apan ang adlaw nga ikapito maoy usa ka adlaw nga igpapahulay alang kang Jehova nga imong Dios. Niining adlawa dili ka magbuhat, ikaw, bisan ang imong anak nga lalake, bisan ang imong anak nga babaye, bisang ang imong sulogoon nga lalake, bisan ang imong sulogoon nga babaye, bisan ang imong kahayupan, bisan ang imong dumuloong nga anaa sa sulod sa imong mga pultahan.

but the seventh day is a day of rest, a day dedicated to me, Yahweh God, the one whom you [should worship]. On that day you must not do any work. You and your sons and daughters and your male and female slaves must not work. You must not even force your livestock to work, and you must not allow foreigners to work, those who are living in your country.

11 Kay sa unom ka adlaw gibuhat ni Jehova ang langit ug ang yuta, ang dagat, ug ang tanan nga anaa niini, ug mipahulay sa ikapito ka adlaw; busa gipanalanginan ni Jehova ang adlaw nga igpapahulay, ug gibalaan niya kini.

I, Yahweh, created the sky, the earth, the ocean, and everything that is in them, in six days. Then I stopped my work of creating everything, and rested on the seventh day. That is the reason that I, Yahweh, have blessed the rest day and set it apart [to be a sacred/special day].

12 Tahuron mo ang imong amahan ug ang imong inahan, aron magahataas ang imong mga adlaw sa yuta nga ginahatag kanimo ni Jehova nga imong Dios.

Honor/Respect your fathers and your mothers, in order that you may live a long time in the land that I, Yahweh God, will give you.

13 Dili ka magpatay.

Do not murder anyone.

14 Dili ka magpanapaw.

Do not (commit adultery/have sex with anyone other than your spouse).

15 Dili ka magpangawat.

Do not steal anything.

16 Dili ka magsaksi ug bakak batok sa imong isigkatawo.

Do not falsely accuse anyone [of committing a crime].

17 Dili ka maibug sa balay sa imong isigkatawo; dili ka maibug sa asawa sa imong isigkatawo, ni sa iyang sulogoon nga lalake, ni sa iyang sulogoon nga babaye, ni sa iyang vaca, ni sa iyang asno, ni sa unsang butanga nga iya sa imong isigkatawo.

Do not (covet/desire to have) someone else’s house, someone else’s wife, someone else’s male or female slave, someone else’s livestock, someone else’s donkeys, or anything else that some other person owns.”

18 Ug ang tanan nga katawohan nahibalo nga dihay mga dalogdog ug mga kilat, ug tingog sa budyong, ug sa bukid nga nag-aso; ug sa nakakita ang katawohan niini, mikurog sila, ug nanagpahalayo sila.

When the people heard the thunder and saw the lightning, and when they heard the sound of the trumpet and saw the smoke on the mountain, they were afraid and trembled. They stood at a distance,

19 Ug miingon sila kang Moises: Makigsulti ka kanamo, ug kami magapatalinghug: apan ang Dios ayaw pasultiha kanamo aron kami dili mamatay.

and said to Moses/me, “If you speak to us, we will listen. But do not let God speak any more to us. [We are afraid that] if he speaks [any more] to us, we will die.”

20 Ug si Moises miingon sa katawohan: Dili kamo mahadlok: kay ang Dios mianhi sa pagsulay kaninyo, ug aron ang pagkahadlok kaniya mahianha sa inyong atubangan aron kamo dili magpakasala.

Moses/I replied, “Do not be afraid! God has come to determine/test [how you will behave]. He wants you to revere him, and to not sin.”

21 Ug ang katawohan nanagpanindog sa halayo, ug si Moises miduol sa mabaga nga kangitngit, diin didto ang Dios.

Then, as the people [watched from] a distance, Moses/I went close to the black cloud where God was.

22 Ug si Jehova miingon kang Moises: Sa ingon niini magapamulong ka sa mga anak sa Israel: Kamo sa inyong kaugalingon nakakita nga ako nagsulti kaninyo gikan sa langit.

Yahweh said to Moses/me, “Say this to the Israeli people: ‘You have heard how I, Yahweh, have spoken to you from heaven. I told you that you must not make any idols of silver or gold [that you will worship instead] of me.

23 Dili kamo magbuhat ug laing dios uban kanako; mga dios nga salapi, kun mga dios nga bulawan, dili kamo magbuhat niini alang kaninyo.

24 Usa ka halaran nga yuta pagabuhaton mo alang kanako, ug maghalad ka sa ibabaw niini sa imong mga halad-nga-sinunog, ug ang imong mga halad-sa-pakigdait, ang imong mga carnero, ug ang imong mga vaca: sa bisan diin nga dapit nga didto pagabuhaton ko ang pagpahinumdum sa akong ngalan, moanha ako kanimo, ug pagapanalanginan ko ikaw.

Make for me an altar from dirt. Sacrifice on it the animals that you will burn completely. Also sacrifice on it the animals that you will not burn completely, to maintain fellowship with me. Worship me [MTY] in any place that I choose for you to honor/worship me; and if you do that, I will come to you and bless you.

25 Ug kong magatukod ikaw alang kanako ug usa ka halaran nga bato, dili mo pagtukoron kini sa mga bato nga sinapsapan, kay kong magbakyaw ka sa imong galamiton sa ibabaw niini, gihugawan mo kini.

If you make for me an altar from stones, do not make it from stones that you have cut [to make them look nice], because you will make the altar unsuitable for [worshiping] me if you use tools to cut the stones.

26 Ug dili ka magsaka sa mga ang-ang sa akong halaran, aron dili madayag diha ang imong pagkahubo.

Do not make an altar that has steps in front of it, because if you do that, [people] could see your naked [buttocks] as you go up the steps.’”
