2 Samuel 17

1 Labut pa si Achitophel miingon kang Absalom: Papilia ako karon ug napulo ug duha ka libong tawo, ug ako motindog ug molutos kang David niining gabhiona:

And Achitophel said to Absalom: I will choose me twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night.

2 Ug moadto ako kaniya samtang uga siya gikapuy ug maluya ug mga kamot, ug hadlokon ko siya; ug ang tibook katawohan nga uban kaniya mangalagiw; ug patyon ko ang hari lamang;

And coming upon him (for he is now weary, and weak handed) I will defeat him: and when all the people is put to flight that is with him, I will kill the king who will be left alone.

3 Ug dad-on ko pagbalik ang tibook katawohan nganhi kanimo; ang tawo nga imong gipangita daw mahisama nga ang tanan mahibalik: aron ang tibook katawohan magmalinawon.

And I will bring back all the people, as if they were but one man: for thou seekest but one man: and all the people shall be in peace.

4 Ug ang gipamulong nakapahimuot kaayo kang Absalom ug sa tanang mga anciano sa Israel.

And his saying pleased Absalom, and all the ancients of Israel.

5 Unya miingon si Absalom: Tawga karon si Husai, ang Arachanon, ug pamation ta usab kong unsay iyang ipamulong.

But Absalom said: Call Chusai the Arachite, and let us hear what he also saith.

6 Ug sa diha nga si Husai nahiabut ngadto kang Absalom, si Absalom namulong kaniya, nga nagaingon: Si Achitophel namulong ingon niining paagiha: buhaton ba nato ingon sa iyang gipamulong? Kong dili, sumulti ka.

And when Chusai was come to Absalom, Absalom said to him: Achitophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do it or not? what counsel dost thou give?

7 Ug si Husai miingon kang Absalom: Ang tambag nga gihatag ni Achitophel niining panahona dili maayo.

And Chusai said to Absalom: The counsel that Achitophel hath given this time is not good.

8 Labut pa si Husai miingon: Ikaw nahibalo sa imong amahan ug sa iyang mga tawo, nga sila mga makusganong tawo, ug sila mabangis sa ilang mga hunahuna; ingon sa usa ka oso nga gikawatan sa iyang mga anak diha sa kapatagan; ug ang imong amahan maoy usa ka tawo sa gubat, ug dili mopuyo kauban sa katawohan.

And again Chusai said: Thou knowest thy father, and the men that are with him, that they are very valiant, and bitter in their mind, as a bear raging in the wood when her whelps are taken away: and thy father is a warrior, and will not lodge with the people.

9 Ania karon, siya natago karon sa bisan diing langub kun sa ubang dapit: ug mahitabo, sa diha nga ang uban kanila mangahulog pag-una, nga bisan kinsa nga makadungog niana magaingon: Anaay kamatayon sa taliwalaa sa katawohan nagasunod kang Absalom.

Perhaps he now lieth hid in pits, or in some other place where he list: and when any one shall fall at the first, every one that heareth it shall say: There is a slaughter among the people that followed Absalom.

10 Ug bisan pa siya nga maisug, kansang kasingkasing ingon sa usa ka leon, molanay gayud; kay ang tibook Israel nahibalo nga ang imong amahan maoy usa ka gamhanan nga tawo, ug sila nga anaa kauban niya mga maisug nga tawo.

And the most valiant man whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall melt for fear: for all the people of Israel know thy father to be a valiant man, and that all who are with him are valiant.

11 Apan ako nagtambag nga ang tibook Israel mapundok sa tingub diha kanimo gikan sa Dan bisan ngadto sa Beer-seba, sama sa balas nga anaa sa baybayon sa gidaghanon; ug nga ikaw moadto sa gubat sa imong kaugalingong lawas.

But this seemeth to me to be good counsel: Let all Israel be gathered to thee, from Dan to Bersabee, as the sand of the sea which cannot be numbered: and thou shalt be in the midst of them.

12 Busa moadto kami kaniya sa ubang dapit diin makaplagan siya, ug kami mopatay kaniya sama sa tun-og nga mahulog sa ibabaw sa yuta; ug kaniya ug sa tanang mga tawo nga uban kaniya walay bisan usa nga mabiyaan namo.

And we shall come upon him in what place soever he shall be found: and we shall cover him, as the dew falleth upon the ground, and we shall not leave of the men that are with him, not so much as one.

13 Labut pa, kong makadangup siya ngadto sa usa ka ciudad, unya ang tibook nga Israel magadala ug mga pisi ngadto niadtong ciudara, ug magaguyod kami niini ngadto sa suba, hangtud nga walay bisan usa ka gamay nga bato nga makaplagan didto.

And if he shall enter into any city, all Israel shall cast ropes round about that city, and we will draw it into the river, so that there shall not be found so much as one small stone thereof.

14 Ug si Absalom ug ang tanang mga tawo sa Israel miingon: Ang tambag ni Husai ang Arachanon maayo pa kay sa tambag ni Achitophel. Kay si Jehova nagsugo sa pagdaug sa maayong tambag ni Achitophel, sa tuyo nga si Jehova makahimo ug dautan kang Absalom.

And Absalom, and all the men of Israel said: The counsel of Chusai the Arachite is better than the counsel of Achitophel: and by the will of the Lord the profitable counsel of Achitophel was defeated, that the Lord might bring evil upon Absalom.

15 Unya miingon si Husai kang Sadoc ug kang Abiathar, ang mga sacerdote: Sa ingon niini ug niadto mitambag si Achitophel kang Absalom ug sa mga anciano sa Israel; ug maingon niini ug niadto ako nagtambag.

And Chusai said to Sadoc and Abiathar the priests: Thus and thus did Achitophel counsel Absalom, and the ancients of Israel: and thus and thus did I counsel them.

16 Busa karon pagpasugo pagdali, ug suginli si David, nga magaingon: Ayaw paghunong niining gabhiona sa mga tabokanan sa kamingawan, apan kutob sa tanang mamahimo padayon sa pagtabok; tingali unya ang hari pagalamyon, ug ang tibook katawohan nga uban kaniya.

Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying: Tarry not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but without delay pass over: lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that is with him.

17 Karon si Jonathan ug si Ahimaas nanagpuyo tupad sa Enrogel; ug ang usa ka sulogoon nga babaye magaadtoan ug magasugilon kanila; ug sila ming-adto ug nagsugilon kang David nga hari; kay sila tingali wala hikit-i sa pag-adto ngadto sa ciudad.

And Jonathan and Achimaas stayed by the fountain Rogel: and there went a maid and told them: and they went forward, to carry the message to king David, for they might not be seen, nor enter into the city.

18 Apan usa ka bata nga lalake nakakita kanila, ug gisuginlan si Absalom: ug nangadto silang duruha pagdali; ug miadto sa balay sa usa ka tawo sa Bahurim, nga may usa ka atabay sa iyang natad; ug mingsulod sila didto.

But a certain boy saw them, and told Absalom: but they making haste went into the house of a certain man in Bahurim, who had a well in his court, and they went down into it.

19 Ug ang babaye mikuha ug nagbuklad sa tabon sa ibabaw sa baba sa atabay, ug gisaliyaban ang ibabaw sa mga dinugmok nga trigo; ug walay nailhan.

And a woman took, and spread a covering over the mouth of the well, as it were to dry sodden barley: and so the thing was not known.

20 Ug ang mga sulogoon ni Absalom ming-adto sa babaye ngadto sa balay; ug sila ming-ingon: Hain si Ahimaas ug si Jonathan? Ug ang babaye miingon kanila: Sila nanabok sa sapa nga tubigan. Ug sa ilang gipangita ug wala makakaplag kanila, sila mingbalik sa Jerusalem.

And when Absalom’s servants were come into the house, they said to the woman: Where is Achimaas and Jonathan? and the woman answered them: They passed on in haste, after they had tasted a little water. But they that sought them, when they found them not, returned into Jerusalem.

21 Ug nahitabo, sa human na mahitalikod sila, nga nanggula sila gikan sa atabay ug ming-adto ug mingsugilon kang David nga hari. Ug sila ming-ingon kang David: Bumangon ka ug dumali sa pagtabok sa tubig; kay sa ingon niini si Achitophel mitambag batok kanimo.

And when they were gone, they came up out of the well, and going on told king David, and said: Arise, and pass quickly over the river: for this manner of counsel has Achitophel given against you.

22 Unya si David mibangon ug ang tibook katawohan nga kauban niya, ug nanabok sila sa Jordan: ug sa pagbanagbanag sa kabuntagon walay kulang bisan usa kanila nga wala makatabok sa Jordan.

So David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over the Jordan, until it grew light, and not one of them was left that was not gone over the river.

23 Ug sa diha nga si Achitophel nakakita nga ang iyang tambag wala tumana, gimontorahan niya ang iyang asno, ug mitindog ug mipauli siya sa iyang balay didto sa ciudad niya, ug gihusay niya ang iyang balay, ug nagbitay sa iyang kaugalingon; ug siya namatay, ug gilubong sa lubnganan sa iyang amahan.

But Achitophel seeing that his counsel was not followed, saddled his ass, and arose and went home to his house and to his city, and putting his house in order, hanged himself, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.

24 Unya si David midangat sa Mahanaim. Ug si Absalom mitabok sa Jordan, siya ug ang tibook katawohan sa Israel uban kaniya.

But David came to the camp, and Absalom passed over the Jordan, be and all the men of Israel with him.

25 Ug si Absalom nagbutang kang Amasa nga pangulo sa panon ilis ni Joab. Karon si Amasa maoy usa ka anak nga lalake sa usa ka tawo, kansang ngalan mao si Itra, ang Israelihanon, nga miadto kang Abigal, ang anak nga babaye ni Naas, igsoon nga babaye ni Sarvia, nga inahan ni Joab.

Now Absalom appointed Amasa in Joab’s stead over the army: and Amasa was the son of a man who was called Jethra of Jezrael, who went in to Abigail the daughter of Naas, the sister of Sarvia who was the mother of Joab.

26 Ug ang Israel ug si Absalom nanagpahaluna sa yuta sa Galaad.

And Israel camped with Absalom in the land of Galaad.

27 Ug nahitabo, sa diha nga si David nahiabut na sa Mahanaim, nga si Sobi, ang anak nga lalake ni Naas sa Rabba sa mga anak sa Ammon, ug si Machir, ang anak nga lalake ni Ammiel sa Lodebar, ug si Barzillai nga Galaadnon sa Rogelim,

And when David was come to the camp, Sobi the son of Naas of Rabbath of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammihel of Lodabar, and Berzellai the Galaadite of Rogelim,

28 Nanagdala ug mga higdaanan, ug mga dolang, ug mga saro nga yuta, ug trigo, ug cebada, ug harina, ug sinanglag trigo, ug mga habichuelas, ug mga mongos, ug pinaugang mga liso,

Brought him beds, and tapestry, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and meal, and parched corn, and beans, and lentils, and fried pulse,

29 Ug dugos, ug mantiquilla, ug mga carnero, ug queso sa mga vaca, alang kang David ug alang sa katawohan nga uban kaniya, aron pagakan-on: kay sila miingon: Ang katawohan gipanggutom, ug gipangapuyan, ug giuhaw, diha sa kamingawan.

And honey, and butter, and sheep, and fat calves, and they gave to David and the people that were with him, to eat: for they suspected that the people were faint with hunger and thirst in the wilderness.
