Jeremias 2
1 Miabot kanako ang pulong ni Yahweh, nga nag-ingon,
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
2 “Lakaw ug pagmantala ngadto sa igdulongog sa Jerusalem. Isulti kini, 'miingon si Yahweh niini: nahinumdoman ko alang kanimo ang matinud-anong kasabotan sa imong pagkabatan-on, ang imong gugma sa panahon nga minyoonon na kita, sa dihang misunod ka kanako didto sa kamingawan, ang yuta nga wala gitamnan.
Go and call out before the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus hath said the Lord, I remember unto thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thy espousals, thy going after me in the wilderness, through a land that is not sown.
3 Gilain ang Israel ngadto kang Yahweh, ang unang mga bunga sa iyang ani! Ang tanang mikaon gikan sa unang mga bunga giila nga sad-an; miabot kanila ang katalagman—mao kini ang pahayag ni Yahweh.'”
A holy thing is Israel unto the Lord, the first of his fruits: all that devour him shall incur guilt; evil shall come over them, saith the Lord.
4 Paminawa ang pulong ni Yahweh, balay ni Jacob ug ang matag pamilya sa balay sa Israel.
Hear ye the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob, and all ye families of the house of Israel.
5 Miingon si Yahweh niini, “Unsa man ang nakita nga sayop sa inyong mga amahan nganhi kanako, nga mipalayo man sila gikan sa pagsunod kanako? Nga misunod sila sa mga walay pulos nga mga diosdios ug nahimo silang walay pulos?
Thus hath said the Lord, What fault did your fathers find in me, that they went away far from me, and walked after vanity, and became vain?
6 Wala sila miingon, 'Asa man si Yahweh, nga maoy nagpagawas kanato gikan sa yuta sa Ehipto? Asa man si Yahweh, nga nangulo kanato ngadto sa kamingawan, ngadto sa yuta sa Araba ug sa mga bung-aw, ug sa yuta nga uga ug sa hilabihan nga kangitngit, usa ka yuta nga walay nagaagi ug walay nagpuyo?'
That they said not, Where is the Lord that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of wildness, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land through which no one had passed, and where no man had dwelt?
7 Apan gidala ko kamo sa yuta sa Carmel, sa pagkaon sa bunga niini ug sa ubang maayong mga butang! Apan sa dihang miabot kamo, gihugawan ninyo ang akong yuta, gihimo ninyong dulomtanan ang akong panulondon!
And I brought you into the land of fruitful fields, to eat its fruit and its goodly products; but ye came and ye made unclean my land, and my heritage ye rendered an abomination.
8 Wala miingon ang mga pari, 'Asa man si Yahweh?' ug wala nagtagad kanako ang mga hanas sa balaod! Nagpakasala ang mga magbalantay batok kanako. Nanagna ang mga propeta alang kang Baal ug naglakaw sunod sa walay pulos nga mga butang.
The priests said not, Where is the Lord? and they that handle the law knew me not; and the shepherds transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied in the name of Ba'al, and after things that cannot profit did they walk.
9 Busa pakasad-on ko gihapon kamo—mao kini ang pahayag ni Yahweh—pakasad-on ko ang mga anak sa inyong mga anak nga lalaki.
Therefore will I contend yet farther with you, saith the Lord, and with your children's children will I contend.
10 Kay tabok sa mga baybayon sa Kitim ug tan-awa. Pagpadala ug mga mensahero ngadto sa Kedar ug sutaa ug tan-awa kung aduna bay sama niini kaniadto.
For pass over to the isles of the Chittites, and see; and unto Kedar send, and consider well and see if any thing like this hath happened.
11 Nagbaylo ba ang nasod sa ilang mga dios, bisan tuod dili sila mga dios? Apan gibaylo sa akong katawhan ang ilang himaya alang sa mga butang nga dili makatabang kanila.
Hath a nation exchanged its gods, which are yet no gods? and [still] my people hath exchanged its glory for that which can not profit.
12 Pagkurog, kalangitan, tungod niini! Katingala ug kalisang—mao kini ang pahayag ni Yahweh.
Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and let your hair stand at an end, be ye greatly terrified, saith the Lord.
13 Kay nakabuhat ug duha ka daotan ang akong katawhan batok kanako: Gibiyaan nila ang mga tuboran sa buhing katubigan, ug nagkalot sila ug mga atabay alang sa mga ilang kaugalingon, guba nga mga atabay nga dili makapundo ug tubig.
For two evils have my people committed: me have they forsaken, the source of living waters, to hew out for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns, that cannot hold water.
14 Ulipon ba ang Israel? Natawo ba siya sa panimalay sa iyang agalon? Busa nganong nahimo man siyang inilog?
Is Israel a servant? or one born [to servitude] in the house? why hath he been given up to plunder?
15 Nagngulob ang batan-ong mga liyon batok kaniya. Nagsabasaba sila pag-ayo ug gihimong kahadlokan ang iyang yuta. Naguba ang iyang mga siyudad nga walay mga lumolupyo.
[That] over him young lions roared, let their voice resound, and changed his land into a waste, that his cities are burnt, left without an inhabitant?
16 Ug kiskisan usab sa katawhan sa Memfis ug sa Tapanhes ang imong bagolbagol.
Even the children of Noph and Thachpanches have crushed the crown of thy head.
17 Wala ba ninyo kini buhata sa inyong kaugalingon sa dihang gisalikway ninyo si Yahweh nga inyong Dios, samtang gipangulohan niya kamo diha sa dalan?
Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, through thy forsaking the Lord thy God, while he was leading thee on the [right] way?
18 Busa karon, nganong moagi man kamo sa dalan sa Ehipto ug moinom sa katubigan sa Shihor? Nganong moagi man sa dalan sa Asiria ug moinom sa katubigan sa Suba sa Eufrates?
And now what hast thou to do on the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Shichor? and what hast thou to do on the way of Asshur, to drink the waters of the river?
19 Ang inyong pagkadaotan maoy mibadlong kaninyo, ug ang inyong pagkawalay pagtuo maoy misilot kaninyo. Busa hunahunaa kini ug sabta nga daotan ug pait gayod kaayo kini sa dihang gisalikway ninyo si Yahweh nga inyong Dios, ug walay kahadlok kanako—mao kini ang pahayag sa Ginoo nga si Yahweh ang labaw nga makagagahom.
Thy own wickedness shall chastise thee, and thy backslidings shall correct thee; and thou shalt know and see that evil and bitter was thy forsaking the Lord thy God, while the dread of me was not upon thee, saith the Lord Eternal of hosts.
20 Kay gibali ko ang yugo nga gipas-an ninyo kaniadto; gibugto ko ang nakagapos kaninyo. Miingon gihapon kamo, 'Dili ako moalagad!' sanglit miyukbo kamo sa matag tag-as nga bungtod ug ilalom sa lunhaw nga kahoy, ikaw nga mananapaw.
Because from yore did I break thy yoke, did I burst asunder thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress: nevertheless upon every high hill and under every green tree thou makest thy bed, as harlot.
21 Gitanom ko kamo ingon nga piniling paras, hingpit gayod nga gikan sa maayong binhi. Giunsa man pagkahitabo nga giusab ninyo ang inyong kaugalingon ngadto sa dunot ug walay pulos nga paras?
Yet I had planted thee as a branch of a noble vine, wholly of the proper seed; but how art thou changed unto me into a degenerate plant of an ignoble vine?
22 Kay bisan ug hinloan ninyo ang inyong kaugalingon sa sapa o maghugas gamit ang sabon nga makalimpyo, ang inyong pagkadaotan usa ka lama sa akong atubangan—mao kini ang pahayag sa Ginoo nga si Yahweh.
For though thou wash thyself with natron, and take for thyself much soap: yet would the stain of thy iniquity remain before me, saith the Lord Eternal.
23 Giunsa man ninyo pag-ingon, 'Wala ako mahugawi! Wala kami misunod sa mga Baal'? Tan-awa kung unsa ang inyong gibuhat didto sa kawalogan! Hunahunaa kung unsa ang inyong gibuhat—mga abtik kamo nga bayeng kamelyo nga nagdagan dinhi ug didto,
How canst thou say, I am not become unclean, after the Be'alim have I not gone? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: [like] a swift dromedary bound fast to her ways;
24 usa ka ihalas nga asno nga anad sa kamingawan, sa iyang kainit nagahanggap sa hangin! Kinsa man ang makapugong sa iyang kaulag? Wala nay mga lalaki nga kapoyon sa paggukod kaniya; makita nila siya panahon sa tingpangulag.
[Like] a wild ass used to the wilderness, that at her pleasure snuffeth up the wind; her lust—who can turn this away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month will they find her.
25 Kinahanglan dili ninyo tugotan nga magtiniil kamo ug uhawon ang inyong tutonlan! Apan miingon kamo, 'Wala nay paglaom! Dili, gihigugma ko ang mga langyaw ug mosunod kanila!'
“Prevent thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from being thirsty;” but thou saidst, It is useless; no, for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.
26 Sama sa kaulaw sa usa ka kawatan sa dihang makit-an siya, busa maulawan usab ang panimalay sa Israel—sila, ilang mga hari, ilang mga prinsipe, ilang mga pari ug mga propeta!
As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so have the house of Israel been made ashamed, they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,
27 Mao kini ang miingon ngadto sa kahoy, 'Ikaw ang akong amahan,' ug ngadto sa bato, 'Ikaw ang naghatag kanakog kinabuhi.' Kay ang ilang likod maoy nag-atubang kanako ug dili ang ilang mga dagway. Bisan pa niana, moingon sila sa panahon sa kagubot, 'Barog ug luwasa kami!'
Who say to the wood, Thou art my father; and to the stone, Thou hast brought us forth; for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face; but in the time of their misfortune will they say, Arise, and save us.
28 Apan asa naman ang mga dios nga gihimo ninyo alang sa inyong kaugalingon? Pabaroga sila kung buot nila nga luwason kamo panahon sa mga kalisdanan, kay ang inyong mga diosdios sama kadaghan sa inyong mga siyudad, Juda!
But where are then thy gods that thou hast made for thyself? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy misfortune; for equal to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah.
29 Busa nganong pasanginlan man ninyo ako sa pagbuhat ug sayop! Nakasala kamong tanan batok kanako—mao kini ang pahayag ni Yahweh.
Wherefore will ye contend with me? all of you have transgressed against me, saith the Lord.
30 Gisilotan ko ang inyong katawhan sa walay kapuslanan. Dili sila modawat ug pagpanton. Gilamoy sa inyong espada ang inyong mga propeta sama sa usa ka mangtas nga liyon!
To no purpose have I smitten your children; correction they accepted not: your sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
31 Kamo nga nahisakop niini nga kaliwatan! Hatagi ug pagtagad ang akong pulong, ang pulong ni Yahweh! Nahimo ba akong kamingawan sa Israel? O usa ka yuta nga hilabihan kangitngit? Nganong moingon man ang akong katawhan, 'Maglatagaw kita, dili na kami moanha pa kanimo'?
O [present] generation, regard ye the word of the Lord. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of deep darkness? wherefore say my people, We wander about; we cannot come any more unto thee?
32 Malimtan ba sa ulay ang iyang alahas, ug sa pangasaw-onon ang iyang mga belo? Apan nalimtan ako sa akong katawhan sulod sa daghang mga adlaw!
Can a virgin forget her ornament, or a bride her decorations? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.
33 Pagkamaayo gayod nimo mobuhat ug paagi aron mangita ug gugma. Gitudlo pa gani nimo ang imong mga paagi sa daotang mga babaye.
Why ornamentest thou thy way to seek for love? truly even the worst hast thou used thyself as thy ways.
34 Nakaplagan diha sa imong bisti ang dugo nga mao ang kinabuhi sa mga walay sala, ang mga kabos nga mga tawo. Wala nakaplagan kining mga tawhana sa mga buhat sa pagpangawat.
Also on thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the innocent needy ones: not while breaking in [thy house] didst thou find them; but for all these things.
35 Apan miingon ka, 'Wala akoy sala; sigurado nga mipahilayo na ang iyang kasuko kanako.' Apan tan-awa! Magpahamtang ako ug paghukom diha kanimo tungod kay miingon ka, 'Wala ako nakasala.'
Yet thou sayest, Yea, I am innocent, surely his anger is already turned away from me. Behold, I will hold judgment with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.
36 Nganong taphaw lamang kaayo ang inyong pagtagad niining kabag-ohan diha sa imong mga paagi?
Why makest thou thyself so very low to change thy way? also because of Egypt shalt thou be made ashamed, as thou wast put to shame because of Assyria.
37 Mahiubos usab kamo sa Ehipto, sama lamang sa nahitabo kaninyo sa Asiria. Mogawas usab kamo didto nga magsubo, inubanan sa inyong mga kamot ibabaw sa inyong ulo, kay gisalikway ni Yahweh kadtong inyong gisaligan, busa dili ka nila matabangan.”
Also from this one shalt thou go forth, with thy hands [clasped] over thy head; for the Lord hath rejected those on whom thou trustest and thou shalt not prosper with them.
