Esdras 4
1 Karon nakadungog ang pipila sa mga kaaway sa Juda ug sa Benjamin nga ang katawhan nga mga binihag nagtukod ug templo alang kang Yahweh, ang Dios sa Israel.
And the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity were building the temple to Jehovah the God of Israel;
2 Busa miduol sila kang Sorobabel ug ang mga pangulo sa ilang mga katigulangang mga banay. Miingon sila ngadto kanila, “Magtukod kita uban kaninyo, kay sama kaninyo, nangita kami sa inyong Dios ug naghalad ngadto kaniya sukad pa sa panahon ni Esardad, nga hari sa Asiria, nagdala kanato dinhing dapita.”
and they came to Zerubbabel and to the chief fathers, and said to them, We would build with you; for we seek your God, as ye; and we have sacrificed to him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assyria, who brought us up hither.
3 Apan si Sorobabel, si Josue, ug ang mga pangulo sa ilang mga katigulangang banay nag-ingon, “Dili kamo, apan kami ang kinahanglan magtukod sa balay sa among Dios, tungod kay kami motukod sa balay alang kang Yahweh, ang Dios sa Israel, ingon nga mando ni Haring Ciro sa Persia.”
But Zerubbabel and Jeshua and the rest of the chief fathers of Israel said to them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build a house to our God, but we alone will build to Jehovah the God of Israel, as king Cyrus, the king of Persia, has commanded us.
4 Busa ang katawhan sa yuta gihimong maluya ang mga kamot sa taga-Juda; gihadlok nila ang mga taga-Juda sa pagtukod.
And the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building;
5 Gisuholan usab nila ang mga magtatambag aron sa pagpakyas sa ilang plano. Gibuhat nila kini sa tanang mga adlaw ni Ciro ug ngadto sa paghari ni haring Dariu sa Persia.
and they hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.
6 Unya sa sinugdanan sa paghari ni Asuero nagsulat sila ug sumbong batok sa mga lumolupyo sa Juda ug sa Jerusalem.
And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, they wrote an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
7 Sa panahon kini sa mga adlaw ni Asuero nga si Bislam, si Mitredates, si Tabel, ug sa ilang mga kaubanan nagsulat kang Asuero. Ang maong sulat gisulat sa pinulongan nga Aramaica ug gihubad.
And in the days of Artaxerxes, Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of his companions, wrote to Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in Aramaic, and interpreted in Aramaic.
8 Si Rehum ang labaw ug si Simsai ang eskriba maoy nagsulat niining paagi ngadto kang Artajerjes mahitungod sa Jerusalem.
Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king after this sort:
9 Unya si Rehum, si Simsai, ug ang iyang mga kaubanan, nga mga maghuhukom ug ang uban pang mga opisiyal sa gobyerno, gikan sa Erec, sa Babilonia, ug sa Susa sa Elam—misulat sila ug sulat—
Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions, the Dinaites, and the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Shushanchites, the Dehaites, the Elamites,
10 ug nahiapil sila niadtong mga tawo nga gipugos pagpapuyo sa Samaria sa bantogan ug inila nga si Asbanipal, uban sa tanan nga anaa sa probinsya unahan sa Suba.
and the rest of the peoples whom the great and noble Osnappar brought over and settled in the cities of Samaria, and the rest [of the country] on this side the river, and so forth.
11 Mao kini ang kopya sa sulat nga ilang gipadala ngadto kang Artajerjes: “Ang imong mga sulugoon, mga katawhan tabok sa suba, nagsulat niini:
This is the copy of the letter that they sent to him: To Artaxerxes the king: Thy servants the men on this side the river, and so forth.
12 Tugoti ang hari masayod nga ang mga Judio nga gikan kanimo moanhi batok kanato dinhi sa Jerusalem aron itukod ang masinupakon nga siyudad. Gihuman nila ang mga pader ug gitukod pag-usab ang mga pundasyon.
Be it known to the king that the Jews who came up from thee unto us have come to Jerusalem; they are building the rebellious and the bad city, and they complete the walls and join up the foundations.
13 Karon tugoti ang hari nga masayod niana nga kung kining siyudara matukod ug mahuman na ang pader, dili sila maghatag ug pahinungod ug buhis apan ilang pagasakiton ang mga hari.
Be it known therefore unto the king, that, if this city be built and the walls be completed, they will not pay tribute, tax, and toll, and in the end it will bring damage to the kings.
14 Tungod kay kami nagakaon ug asin sa palasyo, dili kini husto kanamo nga motan-aw sa bisan unsang pagpakaulaw nga nahitabo sa hari. Tungod niini mao nga nagpahibalo kami ngadto sa hari
Now, since we eat the salt of the palace, and it is not right for us to see the king's injury, therefore have we sent and informed the king;
15 nga pangitaon ang talaan sa imong amahan ug aron sa pagsuta nga kining masinupakon nga siyudad magpasakit sa mga hari ug sa mga probinsya. Mao kini ang hinungdan sa daghang mga suliran ngadto sa mga hari ug sa mga probinsya. Nahimo kining sentro sa masinupakon sukad pa kaniadto. Mao kini ang hinungdan nga kining siyudara nagun-ob.
that search may be made in the book of the annals of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the annals and know that this city is a rebellious city, which has done damage to kings and provinces, and that they have raised sedition within the same of old time, for which cause this city was destroyed.
16 Nagpahibalo kami sa hari nga kung matukod kining siyudara ug ang pader, unya walay mabilin alang kanimo sa unahan sa dako nga suba sa Eufrates.”
We inform the king that if this city be built and its walls be completed, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.
17 Busa nagpadala ang hari ug tubag ngadto kang Rehum ug kang Simsai ug sa ilang mga kaubanan sa Samaria ug sa uban pang bahin unahan sa Suba: “Ang kalinaw maanaa kaninyo.
The king sent an answer to Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and the other places beyond the river: Peace, and so forth.
18 Ang maong sulat nga imong gipadala kanako gihubad ug gibasa dinhi kanako.
The letter that ye sent to us has been read before me distinctly.
19 Busa nagsugo ako sa pagsusi ug nahibaloan nga kaniadto misupak sila ug misukol batok sa mga hari.
And I gave orders, and search has been made, and it has been found that this city of old time has made insurrection against the kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been raised therein.
20 Adunay mga hari nga kusgan nga nagdumala sa Jerusalem ug adunay gahom sa tanang butang sa unahan sa Suba. Ang pahinungod ug mga buhis ginabayad kanila.
And there have been mighty kings over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all beyond the river; and tribute, tax, and toll were paid to them.
21 Karon, paghimo ug balaod alang niining mga tawhana aron mohunong ug dili na pagatukoron kining siyudara hangtod nga makahimo ako ug balaod.
Now give order to make these men to cease, and that this city be not built, until the order shall be given from me;
22 Pagmabinantayon nga dili kini masalikway. Nganong gitugotan man nga modako kining kadaot ug maoy hinungdan nga midako ang nawala sa bahin alang sa hari?
and take heed that ye fail not to do this: why should harm grow to the damage of the kings?
23 Sa dihang nabasa ni haring Artajerjes ang balaod sa atubangan ni Rehum, ni Simsai, ug sa ilang mga kaubanan, nagdali sila ug gawas sa Jerusalem ug gipugos ang mga Judio sa pagpaundang sa pagtukod.
As soon as the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem to the Jews, and made them cease by force and power.
24 Busa ang bulohaton sa balay sa Dios ngadto sa Jerusalem naundang hangtod sa ikaduhang tuig sa paghari ni haring Dario sa Persia.
Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and it ceased until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
