Deuteronomio 20
1 Sa dihang magmartsa kamo paingon sa gubat batok sa inyong mga kaaway, ug makakita kamog mga kabayo, mga karwahe, ug mga tawo nga mas daghan pa kay kaninyo, ayaw kamo kahadlok kanila; kay si Yahweh nga inyong Dios magauban kaninyo, siya nga nagdala kaninyo pagawas gikan sa yuta sa Ehipto.
When thou shalt go forth to warre against thine enemies, and shalt see horses and charets, and people moe then thou, be not afrayde of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt.
2 Sa dihang paingon na kamo mosulod sa gubat, ang pari moduol ug makig-istorya sa mga tawo.
And when ye are come neere vnto the battel, then the Priest shall come forth to speake vnto the people,
3 Moingon siya kanila, 'Paminaw, Israel, moadto kamo sa gubat batok sa inyong mga kaaway. Ayaw tugoti nga maluya ang inyong mga kasingkasing. Ayaw kamo kalisang o pangurog. Ayaw kamo kahadlok kanila.
And shall say vnto them, Heare, O Israel: ye are come this day vnto battell against your enemies: let not your heartes faynt, neither feare, nor be amased, nor adread of them.
4 Kay si Yahweh nga inyong Dios mao ang makig-uban kaninyo aron makig-away alang kaninyo batok sa inyong mga kaaway ug aron pagluwas kaninyo.'
For ye Lord your God goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, and to saue you
5 Ang mga opisyales makig-istorya sa mga tawo ug moingon, 'Kinsa ba nga tawo ang nagbuhat ug bag-ong balay ug wala nagpahinungod niini? Palakwa siya ug papaulia sa iyang balay, aron dili siya mamatay sa pakiggubat ug laing tawo ang mopahinungod niini.
And let the officers speake vnto the people, saying, What man is there that hath buylt a new house, and hath not dedicate it? let him go and returne to his house, least he dye in the battel, and an other man dedicate it.
6 Aduna bay tawo nga nagtanom ug kaparasan ug wala nakapahimulos sa prutas niini? Papaulia siya sa balay, aron dili siya mamatay sa pakiggubat ug laing tawo ang makapahimulos sa prutas niini.
And what man is there that hath planted a vineyarde, and hath not eaten of the fruite? let him go and returne againe vnto his house, least he die in the battel, and another eate the fruite.
7 Kinsa ba nga tawo nga minyoonon sa usa ka babaye apan wala pa nakigminyo kaniya? Papaulia siya sa balay aron dili siya mamatay sa pakiggubat ug laing tawo ang makaminyo kaniya.'
And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and returne againe vnto his house, lest he die in the battell, and another man take her.
8 Ang mga opisyales makig-istorya ug dugang sa mga tawo ug moingon, 'Kinsa ba nga tawo ang mahadlokon o luyag kasingkasing? Palakwa siya ug papaulia sa iyang balay, aron ang kasingkasing sa iyang igsoon nga lalaki dili matunaw sama sa iyang kasingkasing.'
And let the officers speake further vnto the people, and say, Whosoeuer is afrayde and faynt hearted, let him go and returne vnto his house, least his brethrens heart faynt like his heart.
9 Sa dihang mahuman na ug pakig-istorya ang mga opisyales sa mga tawo, magpili ug mga magdumala kanila.
And after that the officers haue made an ende of speaking vnto the people, they shall make captaines of the armie to gouerne the people.
10 Sa dihang magmartsa kamo aron pagsulong sa usa ka siyudad, pagdalit kamo ug kalinaw sa katawhan.
When thou commest neere vnto a citie to fight against it, thou shalt offer it peace.
11 Kung ilang dawaton ang inyong gitanyag, ug ilang pagaablihan ang mga ganghaan alang kaninyo, ang tanang tawo nga makaplagan didto kinahanglan pugson sa pagtrabaho alang kaninyo ug mag-alagad kaninyo.
And if it answere thee againe peaceably, and open vnto thee, then let all the people that is founde therein, be tributaries vnto thee, and serue thee.
12 Apan kung kini dili magdalit ug kalinaw kaninyo, apan makiggubat batok kaninyo, unya palibotan ninyo kini,
But if it will make no peace with thee, but make war against thee, then shalt thou besiege it.
13 ug sa dihang si Yahweh nga inyong Dios magahatag kaninyog kadaogan ug magabutang kanila ilalom sa inyong katungod, kinahanglan nga patyon ninyo ang matag lalaki diha sa lungsod.
And the Lord thy God shall deliuer it into thine handes, and thou shalt smite all the males thereof with the edge of the sworde.
14 Apan ang mga babaye, mga gagmayng bata, mga baka, ug tanan nga anaa niadto nga siyudad, ug tanan niining inilog, inyong kuhaon ingon nga dinaog alang sa inyong kaugalingon. Inyong pagagamiton ang dinaog sa inyong mga kaaway, nga gihatag ni Yahweh nga inyong Dios kaninyo.
Onely the women, and the children, and the cattel, and all that is in the citie, euen all the spoyle thereof shalt thou take vnto thy selfe, and shalt eate the spoyle of thine enemies, which the Lord thy God hath giuen thee.
15 Pagbuhat kamo niini nga paagi ngadto sa tanang mga siyudad nga hilabihan kalayo kaninyo, nga dili mga siyudad niining mosunod nga mga nasod.
Thus shalt thou do vnto all ye cities, which are a great way off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations here.
16 Sa mga siyudad niining mga katawhan nga gihatag ni Yahweh nga inyong Dios ingon nga panulondon, wala kamoy ibilin nga nagginhawa pa.
But of the cities of this people, which the Lord thy God shall giue thee to inherite, thou shalt saue no person aliue,
17 Hinuon, laglagon ninyo sila sa hingpit: ang mga Hitihanon, mga Amorihanon, mga Canaanhon, mga Perizihanon, mga Hibihanon, ug mga Jebusihanon, sama sa gisugo kamo ni Yahweh nga inyong Dios.
But shalt vtterly destroy them: to wit, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hiuites, and the Iebusites, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee,
18 Buhata kini aron dili kamo nila tudloan sa pagbuhat sa mga gikasilagan nga mga butang, nga ilang ginabuhat sa ilang mga dios. Kung magbuhat kamo niana, makasala kamo batok kang Yahweh nga inyong Dios.
That they teache you not to doe after all their abominations, which they haue done vnto their gods, and so ye should sinne against the Lord your God.
19 Sa dihang palibotan ninyo ang siyudad sa hataas nga panahon, ingon nga nakigbatok kamo niini aron makuha kini, dili ninyo pagaputlon ang mga kahoy pinaagi sa pag-atsa niini. Kay makakaon kamo gikan niini, mao nga dili ninyo kini angay putlon. Kay tawo ba ang kahoy sa tanaman nga inyong palibotan?
When thou hast besieged a citie long time, and made warre against it to take it, destroy not the trees therof, by smiting an axe into them: for thou mayest eate of them: therfore thou shalt not cut them downe to further thee in the siege, (for the tree of the field is mans life)
20 Ang mga kahoy lamang nga inyong nahibaloan nga dili alang sa pagkaon, mahimo ninyong tumbahon ug putlon; magatukod kamo ug kahimanan batok sa siyudad nga makiggubat kaninyo, hangtod mapukan kini.
Onely those trees, which thou knowest are not for meate, those shalt thou destroy and cut downe, and make fortes against the citie that maketh warre with thee, vntil thou subdue it.
