Mga Buhat 17
1 Karon sa diha nga naagian na nila ang mga siyudad sa Amfipolis ug Apolonia, miabot sila sa siyudad sa Tesalonica, diin adunay sinagoga sa mga Judio.
Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:
2 Si Pablo, sama sa iyang nabatasan, miadto kanila, ug sulod sa tulo ka Adlaw nga Igpapahulay nakiglantugi uban kanila gikan sa Kasulatan.
And Paul, as his manner was, went in to them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
3 Gibukhad niya ang Kasulatan ug gipasabot niya nga kinahanglan gayod ang Cristo nga mag-antos ug mabuhi pag-usab gikan sa mga patay. Misulti siya, “Kining Jesus nga akong gimantala kaninyo mao si Cristo.”
Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach to you, is Christ.
4 Pipila sa mga Judio nadani ug miapil kang Pablo ug Silas, kauban ang mga mainampoon nga mga Griyego, daghan nga inilang mga kababayen-an ug usa ka dakong panon.
And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
5 Apan ang mga dili magtutuong mga Judio, nangatandog sa kasina, mikuha ug pipila ka mga daotang mga lalaki nga gikan didto sa merkado, nagtigom ug dakong panon sa katawhan, ug gibutang ang siyudad sa kaguliyang. Miataki sila sa balay ni Jason, buot nilang dad-on si Pablo ug Silas gawas didto sa mga tawo.
But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took to them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.
6 Apan sa wala nila sila makaplagi, ilang giguyod si Jason ug pipila ka mga kaigsoonan sa atubangan sa mga pangulo sa siyudad, nga nanagsinggit, “Kining mga tawhana misupak sa atong naandang pamaagi ug mianhi usab diri.
And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brothers to the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come here also;
7 Kining mga tawhana nga giabi-abi ni Jason nagsupak sa kasugoan ni Cesar; sila misulti nga adunay laing hari— mao si Jesus.”
Whom Jason has received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.
8 Sa dihang ang panon sa katawhan ug ang mga pangulo sa siyudad nakadungog niining mga butanga, nahasol sila.
And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.
9 Pagkahuman nila nakuha ang salapianong pasalig gikan kang Jason ug sa uban, gibuhian nila sila.
And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.
10 Niadtong gabhi-ona ang mga kaigsoonan gipadala silang Pablo ug Silas didto sa Berea. Sa pag-abot nila didto, miadto sila sa sinagoga sa mga Judio.
And the brothers immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night to Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 Karon kining mga tawhana mas taas ang panghunahuna kaysa sa mga taga-Tesalonica, kay gidawat nila ang pulong nga adunay kaandam sa hunahuna, ginasusi ang Kasulatan kada adlaw aron sa pagtan-aw kung mao ba kining mga butanga.
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
12 Busa kadaghanan sa ila mituo, lakip na ang ubang mga dungganong mga babayeng Griyego ug daghang mga kalalakin-an.
Therefore many of them believed; also of honorable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.
13 Sa pagkahibalo sa mga Judio sa Tesalonica nga si Pablo nagmantala usab sa pulong sa Dios didto sa Berea, miadto sila didto ug ilang gigubot ug gisamok ang panon sa katawhan.
But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.
14 Unya dihadiha dayon, gipadala sa mga kaigsoonan si Pablo ngadto sa dagat, apan si Silas ug Timoteo nagpabilin didto.
And then immediately the brothers sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus stayed there still.
15 Kadtong nag-una kang Pablo gidala siya palayo hangtod sa siyudad sa Atenas. Sa pagbiya nila didto kang Pablo, nakadawat sila ug mga sugo alang kang Silas ug Timoteo nga moadto kaniya sa labing dali nga panahon.
And they that conducted Paul brought him to Athens: and receiving a commandment to Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed.
16 Karon samtang nagpaabot si Pablo kanila sa Atenas, gisamok siya sa iyang espiritu sulod kaniya sa pagkakita niya sa siyudad nga puno sa mga diosdios.
Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
17 Busa nangatarongan siya didto sa sinagoga uban sa mga Judio ug kadtong mga misimba sa Dios ug ang uban usab nga iyang nahimamat kada adlaw didto sa merkado.
Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.
18 Apan ang pipila sa mga pilosopong Epicureo ug Estoico nasugatan usab niya. Ug ang pipila miingon, “Unsa ang buot isulti niining tabian nga tawo?” Ang uban miingon, “Daw mura siyag magsasangyaw sa lain nga mga dios,” tungod kay nagsangyaw siya mahitungod kang Jesus ug ang pagkabanhaw.
Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seems to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached to them Jesus, and the resurrection.
19 Ilang gikuha si Pablo ug gidala ngadto sa Areopago, nga nag-ingon, “Mahimo ba namong mahibaw-an kining bag-ong pagtulon-an nga imong gipamulong?
And they took him, and brought him to Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof you speak, is?
20 Kay nagdala ka ug katingalahan nga mga butang sa among mga dalunggan. Busa, buot kaming masayod kung unsa ang buot ipasabot niining mga butanga.”
For you bring certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.
21 (Karon ang tanang taga-Atenas ug ang mga dumuduong nga nagpuyo didto gigahin ang ilang oras sa wala o di ba kaha pagpamulong o pagpaminaw mahitungod sa bag-ong butang.)
(For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)
22 Busa si Pablo nagbarog taliwala sa mga Areopago ug miingon, “Kamong katawhan sa Atenas, nakita nako nga kamo mainampoon kaayo sa tanang paagi.
Then Paul stood in the middle of Mars’ hill, and said, You men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are too superstitious.
23 Kay sa akong paglabay ug pagpaniid sa mga butang sa inyong pagsimba, nakakaplag ako ug halaran uban sa sinulat nga, SA WALA MAILHI NGA DIOS. Busa kung kinsa ang inyong gisimba diha sa pagkawalay alamag, mao kini akong ipahibalo kaninyo.
For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore you ignorantly worship, him declare I to you.
24 Ang Dios nga nagbuhat sa kalibotan ug sa tanang anaa niini, tungod kay siya ang Ginoo sa langit ug sa yuta, wala mipuyo sa templo nga binuhat sa mga kamot. Ni
God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwells not in temples made with hands;
25 gialagaran pinaagi sa mga kamot sa mga tawo, ingon nga siya nagkinahanglan ug bisan unsa, kay siya sa iyang kaugalingon ang naghatag sa mga tawo ug kinabuhi ug gininhawa ug sa tanang laing mga butang.
Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he gives to all life, and breath, and all things;
26 Ug gikan sa usa ka tawo iyang gibuhat ang matag nasod sa mga tawo nga nagpuyo sa ibabaw sa kalibotan, nagtakda sa ilang mga piniling mga panahon ug mga utlanan sa ilang pinuy-anan nga dapit.
And has made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
27 Busa, kinahanglan pangitaon nila ang Dios ug tingali basin moduol sila kaniya ug makaplagan siya, ug sa pagkatinuod, wala siya mahilayo gikan sa matag-usa kanato.
That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
28 Kay tungod kaniya nabuhi ug nakalihok ug nakaangkon kita sa atong kinabuhi, sama lang sa inyong kaugalingong mga balak nga namulong,
For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
29 'Kay kita usab iyang mga anak.' Ingon nga anak man sa Dios, kinahanglan dili kita maghunahuna nga ang pagkabalaan sama sa bulawan, o plata, o mga bato, kinulit uban sa arte ug panghunahuna sa tawo.
For as much then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like to gold, or silver, or stone, graven by are and man’s device.
30 Busa gitaligam-an sa Dios ang mga panahon sa walay pagkaalamag, apan karon iyang gimandoan ang tanang mga tawo bisag asa nga maghinulsol.
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commands all men every where to repent:
31 Tungod kay iya nang giandam ang adlaw sa iyang paghukom sa kalibotan sa pagkamatarong pinaagi sa tawong iyang pinili. Gihatagan sa Dios ug pamatuod nga kining tawhana ngadto sa matag usa nga mabanhaw siya gikan sa mga patay.”
Because he has appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he has ordained; whereof he has given assurance to all men, in that he has raised him from the dead.
32 Unya sa pagkadungog sa mga tawo sa Atenas sa pagkabanhaw sa mga patay, ang uban gibiay-biay nila si Pablo; apan ang uban miingon, “Mamati kami kanimo pag-usab mahitungod niining butanga.
And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear you again of this matter.
33 “Pagkahuman niadto, si Pablo mibiya kanila.
So Paul departed from among them.
34 Apan adunay mga tawo ang miapil kaniya ug mituo kaniya, lakip si Dionisio nga Areopagohanon, ang babaye nga ginganlan ug Damaris, ug ang uban pa nga miuban kanila.
However, certain men joined to him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
