2 Samuel 11
1 Nahitabo kini panahon sa tingpamulak, sa panahon nga ang mga hari moadto sa gubat, nga gipadala ni David si Joab, ang iyang mga sulugoon, ug ang tanang kasundalohan sa Israel. Gibuntog nila ang kasundalohan sa Ammon ug gilibotan ang Rabba. Apan nagpabilin si David sa Jerusalem.
[In that region], kings usually went [with their armies] to fight [their enemies] in the springtime. But the following year, in the springtime, David [did not do that. Instead, he] stayed in Jerusalem, and he sent [his commander] Joab [to lead the army]. So Joab went with the other officers and the rest of the Israeli army. They [crossed the Jordan River and] defeated the army of the Ammon people-group. Then they surrounded [their capital city, ] Rabbah.
2 Busa miabot ang usa ka kagabhion nga mibangon si David gikan sa iyang higdaanan ug naglakawlakaw sa atop sa iyang palasyo. Gikan didto nakakita siya ug babaye nga naligo, ug maanyag kaayo nga lantawon ang maong babaye.
Late one afternoon, after David got up from taking a nap, he walked around on the [flat] roof of his palace. He saw a woman who was bathing [in the courtyard of her house]. The woman was very beautiful.
3 Busa nagsugo si David ug tawo aron mangutana kung kinsa ang nakaila sa maong babaye. Adunay miingon, “Dili ba si Batseba man kini, ang anak nga babaye ni Eliam, ug dili ba siya man ang asawa ni Uria nga Hitihanon?”
David sent a messenger to find out who she was. [The messenger returned] and said, “She is [RHQ] Bathsheba. She is the daughter of Eliam, and her husband is Uriah, from the Heth people-group.”
4 Nagpadala ug mga mensahero si David sa pagkuha kaniya; miadto siya kaniya, ug nakigdulog siya kaniya (tungod kay mao palay paghinlo niya sa iyang kaugalingon gikan sa pagregla). Unya mibalik siya sa iyang balay.
Then David sent more messengers to get her. They brought her to David, and he (slept/had sex) [EUP] with her. (She had just finished performing the rituals to make herself pure [after her monthly menstrual period].) Then Bathsheba went back home.
5 Namabdos ang babaye, ug nagsugo siya ngadto kang David sa pagsulti; nga nag-ingon, “Mabdos ako.”
[After some time], she realized that she was pregnant. So she sent a messenger to tell David [that she was pregnant].
6 Unya nagpadala si David ngadto kang Joab ug mensahero nga nag-ingon, “Ipadala kanako si Uria nga Hitihanon.” Busa gipadala ni Joab si Uria kang David.
Then David sent a message to Joab. He said, “Send Uriah, from the Heth people-group, to me.” So Joab did that. He sent Uriah to David.
7 Sa pag-abot ni Uria, nangutana si David kaniya mahitungod sa kahimtang ni Joab, unsa na ang kahimtang sa kasundalohan, ug kung unsa na usab ang kahimtang sa pakiggubat.
When he arrived, David asked if Joab was well, and if other soldiers were well, and how the war was progressing.
8 Miingon si David kang Uria, “Lugsong sa imong balay ug hugasi ang imong mga tiil.” Busa mibiya si Uria sa palasyo sa hari, ug sa pagbiya ni Uria sa palasyo nagpadala ang hari ug gasa alang kaniya.
Then David, [hoping that Uriah would go home and sleep with his wife, ] said to Uriah, “Okay, go home and relax for a while. [IDM]” So Uriah left, and David gave someone a gift [of some food] to take to Uriah’s house.
9 Apan natulog hinoon si Uria sa pultahan sa palasyo sa hari uban ang tanan nga mga sulugoon sa iyang agalon, ug wala siya milugsong sa iyang balay.
But Uriah did not go home. Instead, he slept at the palace entrance with the king’s palace guards.
10 Sa dihang gisultihan nila si David, “Wala nilugsong si Uria sa iyang balay,” Miingon si David kang Uria, “Dili ba gikan ka man sa panaw? Nganong wala ka man milugsong sa imong balay?”
When someone told David that Uriah did not go to his house [that night], David [summoned him again and] said to him, “Why didn’t you go home [to be with your wife last night], after having been away for a long time?” [RHQ]
11 Mitubag si Uria kang David, “Ang sudlanan sa kasabotan, ug ang Israel ug ang Juda nagpuyo didto sa mga tolda, ug ang akong agalon nga si Joab ug ang mga sulugoon sa akong agalon anaa sa kampo sa hawan nga dapit. Unsaon ko man pag-adto sa akong balay aron sa pagkaon ug pag-inom ug pagdulog sa akong asawa? Ingon nga buhi ka, dili ko kini buhaton.”
Uriah replied, “The soldiers of Judah and Israel are camping in the open fields, and even our commander Joab is sleeping in a tent, and the sacred chest is with them. (How could I/It would not be right for me to) go home, eat and drink, and sleep with my wife [RHQ]. I solemnly declare [IDM] that I will never do such a thing!”
12 Busa miingon si David kang Uria, “Pabilin usab dinhi karong adlawa, ug ugma ko na ikaw palakwon.” Busa nagpabilin si Uria sa Jerusalem nianang adlawa ug sa sunod pa nga adlaw.
Then David said to Uriah, “Stay here today. I will let you return [to the battle] tomorrow.” So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day and that night.
13 Sa dihang gipatawag siya ni David, mikaon siya ug miinom uban kaniya, ug gihubog siya ni David. Sa pagkagabii natulog si Uria sa iyang higdaanan uban ang mga sulugoon sa iyang agalon; wala siya milugsong sa iyang balay.
The next day, David invited him [to a meal]. So Uriah had a meal with David, and David made him drink a lot of wine so that he would get drunk, [hoping that if he was drunk, he would sleep with his wife]. But that night, Uriah again did not go home. Instead, he slept on his cot with the king’s servants.
14 Busa sa pagkabuntag nagpadala ug sulat si David kang Joab, ug gipadala kini pinaagi kang Uria.
[Someone reported that to] David, [so] the next morning he wrote a letter to Joab, and gave it to Uriah to take to Joab.
15 Nagsulat si David ug sulat nga nag-ingon, “Ibutang si Uria sa atubangan sa nagpungasi nga bahin sa gubat, ug biyai siya aron maigo siya ug mamatay.”
In the letter, he wrote, “Put Uriah in the front line, where the fighting is the (worst/most severe). Then command the soldiers to pull back from him, in order that he will be killed [by our enemies].”
16 Busa samtang gilantaw ni Joab ang linya sa mga kasundalohan libot sa siyudad, gibutang niya si Uria sa dapit diin nahibaloan niya nga didto makig-away ang labing kusgan nga mga sundalo.
[So after] Joab [got the letter], as his army was surrounding the city, he sent Uriah to a place where he knew that their enemies’ strongest and best soldiers would be fighting.
17 Sa dihang migawas ang mga kalalakin-an sa siyudad ug nakiggubat batok sa kasundalohan ni Joab, nalaglag ang pipila sa mga kasundalohan ni David, ug lakip na usab didto sa gipatay si Uria nga Hitihanon.
The men from the city came out and fought with Joab’s soldiers. They killed some of David’s officers, including Uriah.
18 Sa dihang nagpadala si Joab ug sulat kang David mahitungod sa gubat,
Then Joab sent a messenger to David to tell him about the fighting.
19 gisugo niya ang mensahero, nga nag-ingon, “Sa dihang mahuman ka na sa pagsulti sa tanang mga butang mahitungod sa gubat ngadto sa hari,
He said to the messenger, “Tell David the news about the battle. After you finish telling that to him,
20 tingali ug masuko ang hari, ug mosulti siya kanimo, 'Nganong nagpaduol man kamo pag-ayo sa siyudad sa pakig-away? Wala ba kamo nasayod nga panaon nila kamo gikan sa pader?
if David is angry [because so many officers were killed], he may ask you, ‘Why did your soldiers go so close to the city to fight [RHQ]? Did you not know that they would shoot [arrows at you while they were standing on top] of the city wall [RHQ]?
21 Kinsa man ang mipatay kang Abimelek ang anak nga lalaki ni Jerubeset? Dili ba gihulogan man siyag dako nga galingang bato sa usa ka babaye gikan sa pader, mao nga namatay siya sa Tebez? Nganong nagpaduol man kamo pag-ayo sa pader?' Unya kinahanglan nga tubagon mo siya, 'Patay na usab ang imong sulugoon nga si Uria nga Hitihanon.'”
Do you not remember how Abimelech, the son of Gideon, was killed? A woman [who lived] in Thebez threw a huge (millstone/stone for grinding grain) on him from [the top of] tower, and he died. So why did your troops go near to the city wall?’ If the king asks this, then tell him, ‘Your officer Uriah also was killed.’”
22 Busa mibiya ang mensahero ug miadto kang David ug gisulti ang tanan nga gisugo kaniya.
So the messenger went and told David everything that Joab told him to say.
23 Unya ang mensahero miingon kang David, “Mas kusgan ang kaaway kaysa kanato sa permiro; migawas sila ngadto kanamo sa kapatagan, apan napaatras namo sila pabalik sa ganghaan.
The messenger said to David, “Our enemies were very brave, and came out of the city to fight us in the fields. [They were defeating us] but we forced them back to the city gate.
24 Ug gipamana sa ilang tigpamana ang imong mga kasundalohan gikan sa pader, ug pipila sa sulugoon sa hari ang namatay, ug ang imong sulugoon nga si Uria nga usa ka Hitihanon namatay usab.”
Then their archers shot arrows at us from [the top of] the city wall. They killed some of your officers. They killed your officer Uriah, too.”
25 Unya miingon si David sa mensahero, “Sultihi si Joab niini, “Ayaw tugoti nga dili kini makapahimuot kanimo, kay ang espada magalamoy sa usa ingon man sa uban. Kusgi pa sa hilabihan ang imong pakiggubat batok sa siyudad, ug pildiha kini.' ug dasiga si Joab.”
David said to the messenger, “Go back to Joab and say to him, ‘Do not be distressed [about what happened], because no one ever knows who will be killed in a battle.’ Tell him that the next time his troops should attack the city more strongly, and capture it.”
26 Busa sa dihang nadunggan sa asawa ni Uria nga patay na si Uria nga iyang bana, nagbangutan siya pag-ayo alang sa iyang bana.
When Uriah’s wife [Bathsheba] heard that her husband had died, she mourned for him.
27 Ug sa dihang milabay na ang iyang pagsubo, gipakuha siya ni David ug gidala sa palasyo, ug giasawa niya siya ug nanganak ug batang lalaki. Apan wala nakapahimuot kang Yahweh ang gibuhat ni David.
When her time of mourning was ended, David sent messengers to bring her to the palace. Thus, she became David’s wife. She later gave birth to a son. But Yahweh was very displeased with what David had done.
