1 Ето имената на синовете на Израиля, които дойдоха в Египет заедно с Якова; всеки дойде с челядта си:
These ben the names of the sones of Israel, that entriden into Egipt with Jacob; alle entriden with her housis;
2 Рувим, Симеон, Левий и Юда,
Ruben, Symeon,
3 Исахар, Завулон, и Вениамин,
Leuy, Judas, Isachar, Zabulon, and Benjamin,
4 Дан и Нефталим, Гад и Асир.
Dan, and Neptalim, Gad, and Aser.
5 Всичките човеци, които излязоха из чреслата на Якова бяха седемдесет души; а Иосиф беше вече в Египет.
Therfor alle the soules of hem that yeden out of `the hipe of Jacob weren seuenti and fyue.
6 И умря Иосиф, всичките му братя, и цялото онова поколение.
Forsothe Joseph was in Egipt; and whanne he was deed, and alle hise brithren, and al his kynrede,
7 А потомците на Израиля се наплодиха и размножиха, увеличиха се и толкова много се засилиха, щото земята се изпълни от тях.
the sones of Israel encreessiden, and weren multiplied as buriounnyng, and thei weren maad strong greetli, and filliden the lond.
8 Тогава се възцари над Египет нов цар, който не познаваше Иосифа.
A newe kyng, that knewe not Joseph, roos in the meene tyme on Egipt, and seide to his puple, Lo!
9 И той рече на людете си: Вижте, тия люде, израилтяните са по-много и по-силни от нас;
the puple of the sones of Israel is myche, and strongere than we;
10 елате, да постъпим разумно спрямо тях, за да се не размножават, да не би, в случай на война, да се съединят и те с неприятелите ни, да воюват против нас и да си отидат от земята.
come ye, wiseli oppresse we it, lest perauenture it be multiplied; and lest, if batel risith ayens vs, it be addid to oure enemyes, and go out of the lond, whanne we ben ouercomun.
11 Затова поставиха над тях настойници, които да ги измъчват с тежък труд; и те съзидаха на Фараона Питом и Рамесий, градове за житници.
And so he made maistris of werkis souereyns to hem, that thei schulden turmente hem with chargis. And thei maden citees of tabernaclis to Farao, Fiton, and Ramesses.
12 Но колкото повече ги измъчваха, толкова повече те се размножаваха и се разширяваха, така че египтяните се отвращаваха от израилтяните.
And bi hou myche thei oppressiden hem, bi so myche thei weren multiplied, and encreessiden more.
13 Затова египтяните караха жестоко израилтяните да работят;
And Egipcians hatiden the sones of Israel, and turmentiden, and scorneden hem;
14 огорчаваха живота им с тежка работа, да правят кал и кирпичи и да вършат всякакъв вид полска работа, всичките работи, с които ги караха да работят, бяха твърде тежки.
and brouyten her lijf to bitternesse bi hard werkis of cley and to tijl stoon, and bi al seruage, bi which thei weren oppressid in the werkis of erthe.
15 При това, египетският цар заръча на еврейските баби, (от които едната се именуваше Шифра, а другата Фуа), като им каза:
Forsothe the kyng of Egipt seide to the mydwyues of Ebrews, of whiche oon was clepid Sefora, the tother Fua;
16 Когато бабувате на еврейките и видите, че раждат, ако родят син, убивайте го, но ако родят дъщеря, тогава нека живее.
and he commaundide to hem, Whanne ye schulen do the office of medewyues to Ebrew wymmen, and the tyme of childberyng schal come, if it is a knaue child, sle ye him; if it is a womman, kepe ye.
17 Но бабите се бояха от Бога, та не правеха каквото им заръча египетския цар, а оставяха живи мъжките деца.
Forsothe the medewyues dredden God, and diden not bi the comaundement of the kyng of Egipt, but kepten knaue children.
18 Тогава египетския цар повика бабите и им рече: Защо правите това та оставяте живи мъжките деца?
To whiche clepid to hym the kyng seide, What is this thing which ye wolden do, that ye wolden kepe the children?
19 И бабите казаха на Фараона: Понеже еврейките не са като египтянките; защото са пъргави и раждат преди да дойдат бабите при тях.
Whiche answeriden, Ebrew wymmen ben not as the wymmen of Egipt, for thei han kunnyng of the craft of medewijf, and childen bifore that we comen to hem.
20 Затова Бог правеше добро на бабите. А людете се размножаваха и засилваха твърде много.
Therfor God dide wel to medewyues; and the puple encreesside, and was coumfortid greetli.
21 И понеже бабите се бояха от Бога, Той им направи домове.
And for the mydewyues dredden God, he bildide `housis to hem.
22 Тогава Фараон заръча на всичките си люде, като каза: Всеки син, който се роди на евреите, хвърляйте го в Нил, а всяка дъщеря оставяйте жива.
Therfor Farao comaundide al his puple, and seide, What euer thing of male kynde is borun to Ebrewis, `caste ye into the flood; what euer thing of wymmen kynde, kepe ye.
