1 От Презвитера до любезния Гай, когото любя:
The Elder vnto the beloued Gaius, whom I loue in the trueth.
2 Възлюбений, молитствувам да благоуспееш и да си здрав във всичко, както благоуспява душата ти.
Beloued, I wish chiefly that thou prosperedst and faredst well as thy soule prospereth.
3 Защото много се зарадвах, когато дойдоха някои братя и засвидетелствуваха за твоята вярност, според както ти ходиш в истината.
For I reioyced greatly when the brethren came, and testified of the trueth that is in thee, how thou walkest in the trueth.
4 По-голяма радост няма за мене от това, да слушам, че моите чада ходят в истината.
I haue no greater ioy then these, that is, to heare that my sonnes walke in veritie.
5 Възлюбений, ти вършиш вярна работа в каквото правиш за братята, и то за чужденци;
Beloued, thou doest faithfully, whatsoeuer thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers,
6 които свидетелствуваха пред църквата за твоята любов. Добре ще сториш да ги изпратиш както подобава пред Бога;
Which bare witnesse of thy loue before the Churches. Whom if thou bringest on their iourney as it beseemeth according to God, thou shalt doe well,
7 защото за Христовото име излязоха, без да вземат нищо от езичниците.
Because that for his Names sake they went forth, and tooke nothing of the Gentiles.
8 Ние, прочее, сме длъжни да посрещаме такива радостно, за да бъдем съработници с истината.
We therefore ought to receiue such, that we might be helpers to the trueth.
9 Писах няколко думи до църквата; но Диотреф, който обича да първенствува между тях, не ни приема.
I wrote vnto the Church: but Diotrephes which loueth to haue the preeminence among them, receiueth vs not.
10 Затова, ако дойда, ще му напомня за делата, които върши, като бръщолеви против нас лоши думи. И като не се задоволява с това, той не просто че сам не приема братята, но възпира и тия, които искат да ги приемат, и ги пъди от църквата.
Wherefore if I come, I will call to your remembrance his deedes which he doeth, pratling against vs with malicious wordes, and not therewith content, neither he himselfe receiueth the brethren, but forbiddeth them that woulde, and thrusteth them out of the Church.
11 Възлюбений, не подражавай злото, но доброто. Който върши добро, от Бога е; който върши зло, не е видял Бога.
Beloued, follow not that which is euill, but that which is good: he that doeth well, is of God: but he that doeth euill, hath not seene God.
12 За Димитрия се свидетелствува добро от всички, и от самата истина; а още и ние свидетелствуваме и ти знаеш, че нашето свидетелство е истинско.
Demetrius hath good report of al men, and of the trueth it selfe: yea, and wee our selues beare recorde, and ye know that our record is true.
13 Имах много да ти пиша, но не ми се ще да ти пиша с мастило и перо;
I haue many things to write: but I will not with yncke and pen write vnto thee:
14 а надявам се скоро да те видя, и ще разговорим уста с уста. Мир на тебе. Поздравяват те приятелите. Поздрави приятелите по име.
For I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speake mouth to mouth. Peace be with thee. The friends salute thee. Greete the friends by name.
