1 А войната между Сауловия дом и Давидовия дом трая дълго време; и Давид непрестанно се засилваше, а Сауловият дом непрестанно ослабваше.
And the war between the house of Saul and the house of David was prolonged, —and, David, waxed stronger and stronger, and, the house of Saul, became weaker and weaker.
2 И народиха се синове на Давида в Хеврон; първородният му беше Амнон, от езраелката Ахиноам;
And there were born unto David, sons, in Hebron, —and it came to press that—His firstborn was Amnon, by Ahinoam, the Jezreelitess;
3 вторият му, Хилеав, от Авигея, жената на кармилеца Навал; третият, Авесалом, син на Мааха, дъщеря на гесурския цар Талмай;
And his second Chileab, by Abigail, wife of Nabal the Carmelite, And the third Absolom, son of Maachah, daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur;
4 четвъртият, Адония, син на Агита; петият Сефатия, син на Авитала;
And the fourth Adonijah, son of Higgith, —And the fifth Shephatiah, son of Abital;
5 и шестият, Итраам, от Давидовата жена Егла. Тия се родиха на Давида в Хеврон.
And the sixth Ithream, by Eglah wife of David. These, were born unto David, in Hebron.
6 А докато продължаваше войната между Сауловия дом и Давидовия дом Авенир беше подпорка на Сауловия дом.
And it came to pass, while the war continued between the house of Saul and the house of David, that, Abner, shewed himself courageous for the house of Saul.
7 А Саул имаше наложница на име Ресфа, дъщеря на Аия; и Исвостей каза на Авенира: Ти защо си влязъл при бащината ми наложница?
Now, Saul, had a concubine, whose name, was Rizpah daughter of Aiah, —and [Ish-bosheth] said unto Abner, Why, wentest thou in, unto my father’s concubine?
8 Тогава Авенир много се разяри за думите на Исвостея, и рече: Кучешка глава ли съм аз откъм Юдовата страна? Днес показвам благост към дома на баща ти Саула, към братята му и към приятелите му, като не те предадох в Давидовата ръка, и пак ме обвиняваш днес за тая жена!
And it provoked Abner greatly, on account of the words of Ish-bosheth, and he said—Am I, the head of the dogs, that pertain unto Judah? To-day, would I deal in lovingkindness with the house of Saul thy father, towards his brethren, and towards his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, —and yet thou hast charged upon me the transgression of the woman, today.
9 Така да направи Бог на Авенира, да! и повече да му притури, ако не сторя за Давида тъй, както Господ му се е клел,
So, may God do unto Abner, and, so, may he add to him, —if, as Yahweh hath sworn unto David, even so, I deal not with him;
10 като направя да премине царството от Сауловия дом, и като поставя Давидовият престол над Израиля, както е и над Юда, от Дан до Вирсавее.
by turning over the kingdom from the house of Saul, —and establishing the throne of David, over Israel and over Judah, from Dan, even unto Beer-sheba.
11 И Исвостей не можеше вече да отговори ни дума на Авенира, понеже се боеше от него.
And he could no further answer Abner, a word, —because he feared him.
12 Тогава Авенир изпрати човеци до Давида да кажат от негова страна: Чия е земята? Думаше още: Направи договор с мене; и, ето, моята ръка ще бъде с тебе, щото да доведе под твоята власт целия Израил.
So Abner sent messengers unto David, on the spot, saying—Whose, is the land? Saying [also] —Solemnise thy covenant with me; and lo! my hand, shall be with thee, to bring round unto thee, all Israel.
13 А той каза: Добре, аз ще направя договор с тебе; но едно нещо искам аз от тебе, а именно, че няма да видиш лицето ми, ако не доведеш предварително Сауловата дъщеря Михала, когато дойдеш да видиш лицето ми.
And he said—Good! I, will solemnise with thee a covenant, —but, one thing, must I ask of thee, saying—Thou shalt not see my face, except thou have brought in Michal, Saul’s daughter, when thou comest to see my face.
14 И Давид прати човеци до Сауловия син Исвостея да кажат: Предай жена ми на Михала, която съм взел за жена срещу сто филистимски краекожия
And David sent messengers unto Ish-bosheth son of Saul, saying, —Give up my wife, Michal, whom I espoused to myself, for a hundred foreskins of Philistines.
15 Исвостей, прочее, прати та я взе от мъжа й Фалатиила Лаисовия син.
So Ish-bosheth sent and took her from her husband, —from Paltiel, son of Laish.
16 И мъжът й дойде с нея, и като вървеше плачеше, и я последва до Ваурим. Тогава Авенир му каза: Иди, върни се; и той се върна.
And her husband went along with her, weeping as he went behind her, as far as Behurim, —when Abner said unto him—Go, return. And he returned.
17 А Авенир влезе във връзка с Израилевите старейшини и рече: В миналото време вие сте искали Давида да царува над вас;
Then had Abner, speech, with the elders of Israel, saying, —In times past, ye were seeking David, to be king over you.
18 сега, прочее, сторете това, защото Господ е говорил за Давида, казвайки: Чрез ръката на слугата Си Давида ще избавя людете Си от ръката на филистимците и от ръката на всичките им неприятели.
Now, therefore, act, —for Yahweh, spake unto David, saying, By the hand of David my servant, will I save my people Israel, out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.
19 Авенир говори още и в ушите на вениаминците; също Авенир отиде да говори и в ушите на Давида в Хеврон всичко, що бе угодно на Израиля и на целия Вениаминов дом.
And Abner also spake in the ears of Benjamin, —and Abner also went to speak in the ears of David, in Hebron, all that was pleasing in the eyes of Israel, and in the eyes of all the house of Benjamin.
20 И тъй, Авенир дойде при Давида в Хеврон, и с него двадесет мъже. И Давид направи угощение на Авенира и на мъжете, които бяха с него.
So, when Abner came in unto David, in Hebron, and, with him, twenty men, David made, for Abner, and for the men who were with him, a banquet.
21 Тогава Авенир каза на Давида: Ще стана да ида, и ще събера целия Израил при господаря си царя, за да направят завет с тебе, та да царуваш над всички, според желанието на душата си. И Давид изпрати Авенира, и той отиде с мир.
Then said Abner unto David—I will verily arise and go, and gather together unto my lord the king, all Israel—that they may solemnise with thee a covenant, so shalt thou reign over all that thy soul desireth. And David let Abner go, and he departed in peace.
22 И, ето, Давидовите слуги и Иоав идеха от едно нашествие и носеха със себе си много користи; но Авенир не беше с Давида в Хеврон, защото той го беше изпратил, и Авенир беше отишъл с мир.
And lo! the servants of David, and Joab, came in from a raid, and, great spoil, brought they in with them; but, Abner, was not with David in Hebron, for he had let him go, and he had departed in peace.
23 А като дойде Иоав и цялата войска, който беше с него, известиха на Иоава казвайки: Авенир Нировият син дойде при царя; и той го изпрати, та си отиде с мир.
When, Joab, and all the host that was with him, had come in, then told they Joab, saying, Abner son of Ner hath been in unto the king, and he hath let him go, and he hath departed in peace.
24 Тогава Иоав влезе при царя и рече: Що си сторил? Ето Авенир е дохождал при тебе; защо си го изпратил та си е отишъл?
Then Joab came in unto the king, and said—What hast thou done? Lo! Abner came in unto thee. Wherefore is it that thou didst let him go, so that he is clean departed?
25 Знаеш какъв е Авенир Нировият син; той е дохождал за да те измами, и да научи излизането ти и влизането ти, и да научи всичко, що правиш.
Thou knowest Abner son of Ner, that, to deceive thee, he came, —and to take knowledge of thy going out, and thy coming in, and to take knowledge of all that thou art doing.
26 И Иоав, като излезе от при Давида, прати човеци подир Авенира, които го върнаха от кладенеца Сира; Давид, обаче, не знаеше това.
And, when Joab had come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, and brought him back from the well of Sirah, —but, David, knew it not.
27 И когато се върна Авенир в Хеврон, Иоав го отведе на страна в портата, за да му говори уж тайно; и там го удари в корема за кръвта на брата си Асаила; и той умря.
So Abner returned to Hebron, and Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate, to speak with him quietly, —and then smote him there, in the belly, that he died, for the blood of Asahel the brother of Joab.
28 А по-после, като чу Давид, рече: Невинен съм аз и царството ми пред Господа до века за кръвта на Авенира Нировия син;
And, when David heard of it, after that, he said—Guiltless, am I and my kingdom before Yahweh, unto times age-abiding, —of the blood of Abner son of Ner.
29 нека остане тя на Иоавовата глава и на целия му бащин дом; и нека не липсва от Иоавовия дом такъв, който има семетечение, или е прокажен, или който се подпира на тояга, или пада от меч, или е лишен от хляб.
Let it be hurled upon the head of Joab, and against all his father’s house, —and let there not fail from the house of Joab—one that hath an issue, or a leper, or one that leaneth on a crutch, or that falleth by the sword, or that lacketh bread.
30 Така Иоав и брат му Ависей убиха Авенира, защото беше убит брат им Асаила в сражението при Гаваон.
Thus, Joab and Abishai his brother, slew Abner, —because he had caused the death of Asahel their brother, in Gibeon, in the battle.
31 Тогава Давид каза на Иоава и на всичките люде, които бяха с него: Раздерете дрехите си, и препашете се с вретище, та плачете пред Авенира. И цар Давид вървеше след носилото.
And David said unto Joab, and unto all the people who were with him, —Rend your clothes, and gird you with sackcloth, and lament aloud before Abner. And, King David himself, was following the bier.
32 И погребаха Авенира в Хеврон; и царят плака с висок глас над Авенировия гроб; също и всичките люде плакаха.
And they buried Abner in Hebron, —and the king lifted up his voice and wept, at the grave of Abner, and all the people wept.
33 И царят плака над Авенира, и каза: - Трябваше ли Авенир да умре, както умира безумен?
And the king addressed his dirge unto Abner, and said, —As a base man dieth, should Abner have died?
34 Ръцете ти не бяха вързани, Нито нозете ти турнати в окови; Както пада човек пред тези, които вършат неправда, Така падна ти. И всичките люде плакаха над него.
Thy hands, were not bound, And, thy feet, near to fetters, were not brought, As one falleth before assassins, so didst thou fall! And again all the people wept over him.
35 Сетне дойдоха всичките люде, за да предумат Давида да яде хляб, докато беше още видело; но Давид се закле, казвайки: Така да ми направи Бог, да! и повече да притури, ако вкуся хляб, или какво да било нещо, преди да зайде слънцето.
And, when all the people came near to get David to eat bread, while yet it was day, David sware, saying—So, let God do to me, and, so, let him add, if, before the sun go in, I taste bread, or anything else.
36 И всичките люде се научиха за това, и им стана угодно, както беше угодно на всичките люде и все що правеше царят.
And, all the people, took note of it, and it was noble in their eyes, —as, all that the king did, was, in the eyes of all the people, noble.
37 Защото в оня ден, всичките люде и целият Израил познаха, че не беше от царя да бъде убит Авенир Нировият син.
So then all the people, and all Israel, took note, that day, that it was not of the king, to cause the death of Abner son of Ner.
38 И царят каза на слугите си: Не знаете ли, че велик военачалник падна днес в Израил?
And the king said unto his servants, —Will ye not take note that, a prince and a great man, hath fallen this day, in Israel?
39 Днес аз съм слаб, ако и да съм помазан за цар; а тия мъже, Саруините синове, са много жестоки за мене. Господ да въздаде на злодееца според злодеянието му.
And, I myself, this day, am weak, though anointed king, but, these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are more severe than I: Yahweh repay, the doer of wickedness, according to his wickedness.
