1 একটি আরোহণ সংগীত। আমি তোমার দিকে চোখ তুলে দেখি, তোমার দিকেই দেখি, যিনি স্বর্গের সিংহাসনে অধিষ্ঠিত।

“A song of the degrees.” Unto thee do I lift up my eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

2 যেমন কর্তার হাতের দিকে দাসের দৃষ্টি থাকে, যেমন কর্ত্রীর হাতের দিকে দাসীর দৃষ্টি থাকে, তেমনই আমাদের দৃষ্টি আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর দিকে থাকে, যতদিন না পর্যন্ত তিনি আমাদের প্রতি দয়া করেন।

Behold, as the eyes of servants are directed unto the hand of their masters, as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress: thus are our eyes directed unto the Lord our God, until he be gracious unto us.

3 আমাদের প্রতি দয়া করো, হে সদাপ্রভু, আমাদের প্রতি দয়া করো, কেননা আমরা অবজ্ঞায় পূর্ণ হয়েছি।

Be gracious unto us, O Lord! be gracious unto us; for we are overburdened with contempt.

4 দাম্ভিকের বিদ্রুপ ও অহংকারীর অবজ্ঞা আমরা শেষ পর্যন্ত সহ্য করেছি।

Our soul is overburdened with the scorn of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud oppressors.
