হিতোপদেশ 9
1 প্রজ্ঞা তার বাড়ি নির্মাণ করেছে; সে তার সাতটি স্তম্ভ খাড়া করেছে।
Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars;
2 সে ভূরিভোজনের ব্যবস্থা করেছে ও দ্রাক্ষারস মিশিয়ে রেখেছে সে তার টেবিলও সাজিয়ে রেখেছে।
She hath prepared her meat, she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.
3 সে তার দাসীদের বাইরে পাঠিয়ে দিয়েছে, ও নগরের সবচেয়ে উঁচু জায়গা থেকে ডাক দিয়ে বলেছে,
She hath sent forth her maidens, she calleth, upon the highest places of the city:
4 “যারা অনভিজ্ঞ মানুষ, তারা সবাই আমার বাড়িতে আসুক!” যাদের কোনও জ্ঞানবুদ্ধি নেই তাদের সে বলেছে,
'Whoso is thoughtless, let him turn in hither'; as for him that lacketh understanding, she saith to him:
5 “এসো, আমার খাদ্যদ্রব্য ভোজন করো ও যে দ্রাক্ষারস আমি মিশিয়ে রেখেছি তা পান করো।
'Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
6 তোমাদের অনভিজ্ঞতার পথ পরিত্যাগ করো ও তোমরা বেঁচে যাবে; দূরদর্শিতার পথে চলো।”
Forsake all thoughtlessness, and live; and walk in the way of understanding.
7 যে কেউ বিদ্রুপকারীকে সংশোধন করতে যায় সে অপমান ডেকে আনে; যে কেউ দুষ্টকে ভর্ৎসনা করে সে কলঙ্কের ভাগী হয়।
He that correcteth a scorner getteth to himself shame, and he that reproveth a wicked man, it becometh unto him a blot.
8 বিদ্রুপকারীদের ভর্ৎসনা কোরো না পাছে তারা তোমাকে ঘৃণা করে; জ্ঞানবানদের ভর্ৎসনা করো ও তারা তোমাকে ভালোবাসবে।
Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee; reprove a wise man, and he will love thee.
9 জ্ঞানবানদের উপদেশ দাও ও তারা আরও জ্ঞানী হবে; ধার্মিকদের শিক্ষা দাও ও তাদের পাণ্ডিত্য বৃদ্ধি পাবে।
Give to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.
10 সদাপ্রভুর ভয় প্রজ্ঞার আরম্ভ, ও পবিত্রতম সম্বন্ধীয় জ্ঞানই হল বোধশক্তি।
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the All-holy is understanding.
11 কারণ প্রজ্ঞার মাধ্যমেই তোমার আয়ু বাড়বে, ও তোমার জীবনে বেশ কিছু বছর যুক্ত হবে।
For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
12 তুমি যদি জ্ঞানবান হও, তোমার প্রজ্ঞা তোমাকে পুরস্কৃত করবে; তুমি যদি একজন বিদ্রুপকারী, তবে তুমি একাই কষ্টভোগ করবে।
If thou art wise, thou art wise for thyself; and if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.'
13 মূর্খতা এক দুর্বিনীত নারী; সে অনভিজ্ঞ ও কিছুই জানে না।
The woman Folly is riotous; she is thoughtless, and knoweth nothing.
14 সে তার বাড়ির দরজায় বসে থাকে, নগরের সবচেয়ে উঁচু জায়গায় গিয়ে আসন পেতে বসে,
And she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
15 সে পথচারীদের ডাক দেয়, যারা সোজা পথ ধরে যায় সে তাদের ডেকে বলে,
To call to them that pass by, who go right on their ways:
16 “যারা অনভিজ্ঞ তারা সবাই আমার বাড়িতে আসুক!” যাদের কোনও জ্ঞানবুদ্ধি নেই সে তাদের বলে,
'Whoso is thoughtless, let him turn in hither'; and as for him that lacketh understanding, she saith to him:
17 “চুরি করা জল মিষ্টি; লুকোছাপা করে খাওয়া খাদ্য পরম উপাদেয়!”
'Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.'
