হিতোপদেশ 5
1 হে আমার বাছা, আমার প্রজ্ঞায় মনোযোগ দাও, আমার দূরদর্শী কথাবার্তায় কর্ণপাত করো,
My son, attend to my wisdom, [and] bow thy ear to my understanding:
2 যেন তুমি বিচক্ষণতা বজায় রাখতে পারো ও তোমার ঠোঁট যেন জ্ঞান অক্ষুণ্ণ রাখে।
That thou mayest regard discretion, and [that] thy lips may keep knowledge.
3 কারণ ব্যভিচারিণীর ঠোঁট থেকে মধু ঝরে, ও তার কথাবার্তা তেলের চেয়েও মসৃণ;
For the lips of a strange woman drop [as] a honey-comb, and her mouth [is] smoother than oil:
4 কিন্তু শেষে দেখা যায় সে পিত্তের মতো তেতো, দুদিকে ধারবিশিষ্ট তরোয়ালের মতো ধারালো।
But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. (Sheol h7585)
6 সে জীবনের পথের বিষয়ে কিছুই ভাবে না; সে উদ্দেশ্যবিহীনভাবে রাস্তায় রাস্তায় ঘুরে বেড়ায়, কিন্তু সে তা বুঝতেও পারে না।
Lest thou shouldst ponder the path of life, her ways are movable, [that] thou canst not know [them].
7 এখন তবে, হে আমার বাছারা, আমার কথা শোনো; আমি যা বলছি তা থেকে মুখ ফিরিয়ো না।
Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8 সেই মহিলা থেকে দূরত্ব বজায় রেখে চলো, তার বাড়ির দরজার কাছে যেয়ো না,
Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
9 পাছে তুমি অন্যান্য লোকজনের কাছে তোমার সম্মান হারাও ও নিষ্ঠুর মানুষের কাছে তোমার মর্যাদা হারাও,
Lest thou give thy honor to others, and thy years to the cruel:
10 পাছে অপরিচিত লোকেরা তোমার ধনসম্পদ ভোগ করে ও তোমার পরিশ্রম অন্যের বাড়িঘর সমৃদ্ধ করে।
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labors [be] in the house of a stranger;
11 জীবনের শেষকালে পৌঁছে তুমি গভীর আর্তনাদ করবে, যখন তোমার মাংস ও শরীর ক্ষয়ে যাবে।
And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12 তুমি বলবে, “আমি শৃঙ্খলাপরায়ণতাকে কতই না ঘৃণা করতাম! আমার হৃদয় সংশোধনকে কতই না পদদলিত করত!
And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13 আমি আমার শিক্ষকদের বাধ্য হইনি বা আমার উপদেশকদের কথায় কর্ণপাত করিনি।
And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to them that instructed me!
14 আর আমি ঈশ্বরের লোকদের সমাজে অচিরেই চরম অসুবিধায় পড়েছিলাম।”
I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15 নিজের জলাধার থেকেই তুমি জলপান করো, নিজের কুয়ো থেকেই প্রবাহমান জলপান করো।
Drink waters out of thy own cistern, and running waters out of thy own well.
16 তোমার ঝরনা কি পথঘাট ভাসিয়ে দেবে, তোমার জলপ্রবাহ কি নগরের চকে বয়ে যাবে?
Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, [and] rivers of waters in the streets.
17 তা শুধু তোমারই হোক, অপরিচিত লোকেরা যেন কখনও তাতে ভাগ না বসায়।
Let them be only thy own, and not for strangers with thee.
18 তোমার ফোয়ারা আশীর্বাদধন্য হোক, ও তুমি তোমার যৌবনাবস্থার স্ত্রীতে আনন্দ উপভোগ করো।
Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19 সে এক প্রেমময় হরিণী, এক সুতনু মৃগ— তার স্তন দুটি সর্বদা তোমাকে তৃপ্তি দিক, তার প্রেমে তুমি সর্বক্ষণ মত্ত হয়ে থাকো।
[Let her be as] the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
20 কেন, হে আমার বাছা, অন্য একজনের স্ত্রীতে মত্ত হবে? কেন এক স্বৈরিণী নারীর বক্ষ আলিঙ্গন করবে?
And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 কারণ তোমার সব চালচলন সদাপ্রভু লক্ষ্য রাখেন, ও তিনি তোমার সব গতিবিধি পরীক্ষা করেন।
For the ways of man [are] before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
22 দুষ্টদের দুষ্কর্মগুলি তাদের ফাঁদে ফেলে; তাদের পাপের দড়িগুলি তাদেরই শক্ত করে বেঁধে ফেলে।
His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins.
23 শৃঙ্খলাপরায়ণতার অভাবে তারা মারা যায়, নিজেদের মহামূর্খতার দরুন তারা বিপথগামী হয়।
He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
