হিতোপদেশ 31
1 রাজা লমূয়েলের নীতিবচন—সেই অনুপ্রাণিত ভাষণ যা তাঁর মা তাঁকে শিখিয়েছিলেন।
The words of Lemuel the king, —the strain which was taught him by his mother: —
2 হে আমার বাছা, শোনো! হে আমার গর্ভজাত পুত্র, শোনো! হে আমার বাছা, হে আমার প্রার্থনার উত্তর, শোনো!
What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? aye what, the son of my vows?
3 নারীদের পিছনে তোমার শক্তি ব্যয় কোরো না, যারা রাজাদের সর্বনাশ করে তাদের পিছনে তোমার প্রাণশক্তি নষ্ট কোরো না।
Do not give, to women, thy strength, nor thy ways, to them who ruin kings.
4 হে লমূয়েল, রাজাদের জন্য নয়— দ্রাক্ষারস পান করা রাজাদের জন্য উপযুক্ত নয়, সুরাপানে আসক্ত হওয়া শাসকদের জন্য অনুচিত,
It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, nor, for dignitaries, to desire strong drink,
5 পাছে তারা পান করেন ও ভুলে যান তারা কী আদেশ দিয়েছেন, ও সব নিপীড়িতকে তাদের অধিকার বঞ্চিত করে ছাড়েন।
Lest he drink, and forget that which is decreed, and alter the plea of any who are sorely oppressed.
6 সুরা তাদের জন্যই রাখা থাক যারা মরতে চলেছে, দ্রাক্ষারস তাদের জন্যই রাখা থাক যারা মনোবেদনায় ভুগছে!
Give strong drink, to him that is perishing, and wine, to such as are embittered in soul:
7 তারা পান করুক ও তাদের দারিদ্র ভুলে যাক ও তাদের দুর্দশা আর মনে না রাখুক।
Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and, his wearying toil, let him remember no more.
8 তাদের হয়ে কথা বলো যারা নিজেদের কথা নিজেরা বলতে পারে না, সেইসব লোকের অধিকারের স্বপক্ষে কথা বলো যারা সর্বস্বান্ত।
Open thy mouth for the dumb, for the cause of all the children of the departed.
9 উচ্চকণ্ঠে বলো ও ন্যায়বিচার করো: দরিদ্র ও অভাবগ্রস্তদের অধিকারের স্বপক্ষে ওকালতি করো।
Open thy mouth—judge righteously, —and administer justice for the poor and the needy.
10 কে উন্নত চরিত্রবিশিষ্ট এক স্ত্রী পেতে পারে? তাঁর মূল্য পদ্মরাগমণির চেয়েও অনেক বেশি।
A virtuous woman, who can find? for, far beyond corals, is her worth.
11 তাঁর উপর তাঁর স্বামীর পূর্ণ আস্থা বজায় থাকে ও তিনি তাঁর স্বামীর জীবনে ভালো কোনো কিছুর অভাব হতে দেন না।
The heart of her husband, trusteth her, and, gain, he shall not lack:
12 তিনি তাঁর জীবনের সমস্ত দিন স্বামীর অনিষ্ট নয়, কিন্তু মঙ্গলই সাধন করেন।
She doeth him good and not evil, all the days of her life:
13 তিনি পশম ও মসিনা মনোনীত করেন ও আগ্রহী হাতে কাজকর্ম করেন।
She seeketh wool and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands:
14 তিনি বণিকদের জাহাজগুলির মতো, বহুদূর থেকে তাঁর খাদ্যদ্রব্য নিয়ে আসেন।
She is like the ships of the merchant, from afar, she bringeth in her food;
15 তিনি অন্ধকার থাকতেই ঘুম থেকে উঠে পড়েন; তিনি তাঁর পরিবারের জন্য খাদ্যের জোগান দেন ও তাঁর দাসীদেরও অংশ বরাদ্দ করে দেন।
And she riseth, while yet it is night, and giveth food to her household, and a task to her maidens:
16 তিনি জমির মান বিচার করেন ও তা কিনে নেন; নিজের আয় দিয়ে তিনি দ্রাক্ষাক্ষেত গড়ে তোলেন।
She considereth a field, and procureth it, Out of the fruit of her hands, she planteth a vineyard:
17 তিনি সবলে তাঁর কাজে লেগে পড়েন; তাঁর কাজকর্মের পক্ষে তাঁর হাত দুটি বেশ শক্তিশালী।
She girdeth, with strength her loins, and putteth vigour into her arms:
18 তিনি সুনিশ্চিত হন যে তাঁর কেনাবেচা বেশ লাভজনক হয়েছে, ও তাঁর প্রদীপ রাতেও নিভে যায় না।
She tasteth, whether, good, be her merchandise, and her lamp, goeth not out by night:
19 তাঁর হাতে তিনি তকলি ধরে থাকেন ও সুতো কাটার টাকু তাঁর আঙুল দিয়ে আঁকড়ে ধরে থাকেন।
Her hands, she putteth forth to the distaff, and, her palms, lay hold of the spindle:
20 তিনি দরিদ্রদের প্রতি মুক্তহস্ত হন ও অভাবগ্রস্তদের দিকে তাঁর হাত বাড়িয়ে দেন।
Her palm, she spreadeth out to the oppressed, and, her hands, she extendeth to the needy:
21 তুষারপাতের সময় তাঁর পরিবারের লোকদের জন্য তাঁর কোনও ভয় হয় না; কারণ তারা সকলেই টকটকে লাল রংয়ের কাপড় পরে থাকে।
She feareth not, for her household, because of the snow, for, all her household, are clothed with crimson:
22 তিনি তাঁর বিছানার জন্য চাদর তৈরি করেন; তিনি মিহি মসিনা দিয়ে তৈরি বেগুনি রংয়ের কাপড় গায়ে দিয়ে থাকেন।
Coverlets, she maketh for herself, Of white linen and of purple, is her clothing:
23 তাঁর স্বামী সেই নগরদ্বারে সম্মানিত হন, যেখানে দেশের প্রাচীনদের মধ্যে তিনি তাঁর আসন গ্রহণ করেন।
Known in the gates, is her husband, when he sitteth, with the elders of the land:
24 তিনি মসিনার পোশাক তৈরি করে সেগুলি বিক্রি করেন, ও বণিকদের উত্তরীয় সরবরাহ করেন।
Fine linen wraps, she maketh and selleth, and, girdles, doth she deliver to the trader:
25 তিনি শক্তি ও সম্মানে আচ্ছাদিত হন; আগামী দিনগুলির কথা ভেবে তিনি সশব্দে হাসতে পারেন।
Strength and dignity, are her clothing, and she laugheth at the time to come:
26 তিনি প্রজ্ঞামূলক কথাবার্তা বলেন, ও তাঁর জিভের ডগায় আন্তরিক নির্দেশ থাকে।
Her mouth, she openeth with wisdom, and, the instruction of kindness, is on her tongue:
27 তিনি তাঁর পরিবারের ব্যাপারে সজাগ দৃষ্টি রাখেন ও অলসতার রুটি খান না।
She looketh well to the goings of her household, and, the bread of idleness, will she not eat.
28 তাঁর সন্তানেরা উঠে তাঁকে আশীর্বাদধন্যা বলে ডাকে; তাঁর স্বামীও একই কথা বলেন ও তাঁর প্রশংসা করে বলেন:
Her children rise up, and call her happy! her husband, and he praiseth her: —
29 “অনেক মহিলাই মহৎ মহৎ কাজ করেন, কিন্তু তুমি সবাইকে ছাপিয়ে গিয়েছ।”
Many daughters, have done virtuously, but, thou, excellest them all!
30 লাবণ্য বিভ্রান্তিকর, ও সৌন্দর্য অস্থায়ী; কিন্তু যে নারী সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় করেন তাঁরই প্রশংসা করতে হবে।
Deceitful is loveliness and vain is beauty, The woman that revereth Yahweh, she, shall be praised:
31 তাঁর হাত যা কিছু করেছে, সেসবের জন্য তাঁকে সম্মান জানাও, ও তাঁর কাজকর্মই নগরদ্বারে তাঁর কাছে প্রশংসা এনে দিক।
Give her of the fruit of her own hands, and let her own works, praise her in the gates.
