1 যাকির ছেলে আগুরের নীতিবচন—যা এক অনুপ্রাণিত ভাষণ। ঈথীয়েলের প্রতি, ঈথীয়েলের ও উকলের প্রতি এই লোকটির ভাষণ: “হে ঈশ্বর, আমি ক্লান্ত, কিন্তু আমি বিজয়লাভ করতে পারব।

4 কে স্বর্গে গিয়ে আবার ফিরে এসেছেন? কার হাত বাতাস সংগ্রহ করেছে? কে জলরাশিকে আলখাল্লায় মুড়ে রেখেছেন? কে পৃথিবীর সব প্রান্ত স্থাপন করেছেন? তাঁর নাম কী, ও তাঁর ছেলের নামই বা কী? নিশ্চয় তুমি তা জানো!

5 “ঈশ্বরের প্রত্যেকটি বাক্য নিখুঁত; যারা তাঁতে আশ্রয় নেয় তাদের কাছে তিনি এক ঢাল।

6 তাঁর বাক্যে কিছু যোগ কোরো না, পাছে তিনি তোমাকে ভর্ৎসনা করেন ও তোমাকে এক মিথ্যাবাদী প্রতিপন্ন করেন।

7 “হে সদাপ্রভু, আমি তোমার কাছে দুটি জিনিস চাইছি; আমি মারা যাওয়ার আগে আমাকে প্রত্যাখ্যান কোরো না:

8 ছলনা ও মিথ্যা কথা আমার কাছ থেকে দূরে সরিয়ে রাখো; আমাকে দারিদ্র বা ধনসম্পত্তি কিছুই দিয়ো না, কিন্তু আমার দৈনিক আহারটুকুই শুধু আমাকে দাও।

9 পাছে, অনেক কিছু পেয়ে আমি তোমাকে অস্বীকার করে বসি ও বলে ফেলি, ‘সদাপ্রভু কে?’ বা দরিদ্র হয়ে গিয়ে চুরি করে বসি, ও এভাবে আমার ঈশ্বরের নামের অসম্মান করে ফেলি।

10 “মনিবের কাছে তার কোনো দাসের নিন্দা কোরো না, পাছে তারা তোমাকে অভিশাপ দেয় ও তোমাকে এর জন্য শাস্তি পেতে হয়।

11 “এমন অনেক লোক আছে যারা তাদের বাবাদের অভিশাপ দেয় ও তাদের মা-দের মহিমান্বিত করে না;

12 যারা তাদের নিজেদের দৃষ্টিতেই বিশুদ্ধ অথচ তারা তাদের মালিন্য থেকে শুচিশুদ্ধই হয়নি;

13 যাদের দৃষ্টি চিরকাল খুব উদ্ধত, যাদের চাহনি খুব তাচ্ছিল্যপূর্ণ;

14 যাদের দাঁত তরোয়ালের মতো ও যাদের চোয়ালে ছুরি গাঁথা আছে যেন পৃথিবীর বুক থেকে দরিদ্রদের ও মানবজাতির মধ্যে থেকে অভাবগ্রস্তদের তারা গ্রাস করে ফেলতে পারে।

15 “জোঁকের দুটি কন্যা আছে। তারা চিৎকার করে বলে, ‘দাও, দাও!’ “তিনটি বিষয় আছে যেগুলিকে কখনও তৃপ্ত করা যায় না, চারটি বিষয় আছে যেগুলি কখনও বলে না, ‘যথেষ্ট হয়েছে!’:

18 “তিনটি বিষয় আমার আছে খুবই বিস্ময়কর, চারটি বিষয় আমি বুঝে উঠতে পারি না:

19 আকাশে ওড়া ঈগল পাখির গতিপথ, পাষাণ-পাথরের উপরে চলা সাপের গতিপথ, মাঝসমুদ্রে ভেসে যাওয়া জাহাজের গতিপথ, ও যুবতীর সঙ্গে পুরুষের প্রেমের সম্পর্ক।

20 “ব্যভিচারিণী মহিলার জীবনযাত্রার ধরন এরকম: সে খাওয়াদাওয়া করে ও মুখ মুছে নেয় ও বলে, ‘আমি কোনও অন্যায় করিনি।’

21 “তিনটি বিষয়ের ভারে পৃথিবী কম্পিত হয়, চারটি বিষয়ের ভার তা সহ্য করতে পারে না:

22 এক দাস যে রাজা হয়ে বসেছে, এক মূর্খ যে খাওয়ার জন্য প্রচুর খাদ্যদ্রব্য পেয়েছে,

23 এক নীচ মহিলা যার বিয়ে হয়ে গিয়েছে, ও এক দাসী যে তার কর্ত্রীকে স্থানচ্যূত করেছে।

24 “পৃথিবীর বুকে চারটি প্রাণী ছোটো, অথচ সেগুলি অত্যন্ত জ্ঞানী:

25 পিঁপড়েরা অল্প শক্তিবিশিষ্ট প্রাণী, অথচ গ্রীষ্মকালে তারা তাদের খাদ্য সঞ্চয় করে রাখে;

26 পাহাড়ি খরগোশ সামান্যই শক্তি ধরে, অথচ তারা পাষাণ-পাথরের চূড়ায় তাদের ঘর বাঁধে;

27 পঙ্গপালদের কোনও রাজা নেই, অথচ তারা সারিবদ্ধভাবে এগিয়ে যায়;

28 টিকটিকিকে হাত দিয়ে ধরা যায়, অথচ তাকে রাজপ্রাসাদে দেখতে পাওয়া যায়।

29 “তিনটি প্রাণী আছে যারা তাদের চলাফেরায় রাজসিক, চারজন আছে যারা রাজকীয় ভঙ্গিতে নড়াচড়া করে:

30 সিংহ, যে পশুদের মধ্যে বলশালী, যে কোনো কিছুর সামনেই পশ্চাদগামী হয় না;

31 নির্ভীক মোরগ, পাঁঠা, ও রাজা, যিনি বিদ্রোহের আশঙ্কা থেকে মুক্ত।

32 “তুমি যদি মূর্খামি করো ও নিজেই নিজের প্রশংসা করো, বা অনিষ্ট করার ফন্দি আঁটো, তবে তোমার হাত দিয়ে মুখ ঢেকে রাখো!

33 কারণ ননি মন্থনে যেভাবে মাখন উৎপন্ন হয়, ও নাকে মোচড় পড়লে যেভাবে রক্ত বের হয়, সেভাবে ক্রোধ নাড়াচাড়া করলে বিবাদ উৎপন্ন হয়।”
