হিতোপদেশ 28
1 কেউ পশ্চাদ্ধাবন না করলেও দুষ্টেরা পালায়, কিন্তু ধার্মিকেরা সিংহের মতো সাহসী।
The wicked flee when no one pursueth; But the righteous is as bold as a lion.
2 কোনও দেশ যখন বিদ্রোহী হয়, তখন সেখানে বহু শাসক উৎপন্ন হয়, কিন্তু বিচক্ষণতা ও জ্ঞানসম্পন্ন শাসক শৃঙ্খলা বজায় রাখেন।
Through the transgression of a land many are its rulers; But through men of prudence and understanding the prince shall live long.
3 যে শাসক দরিদ্রদের নিগৃহীত করে সে সেই প্রবল বৃষ্টিপাতের মতো যা কোনও শস্য বাদ দেয় না।
A poor man who oppresseth the needy Is a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.
4 যারা শিক্ষা পরিত্যাগ করে তারা দুষ্টদের প্রশংসা করে, কিন্তু যারা তাতে মনোযোগ দেয় তারা তাদের প্রতিরোধ করে।
They who forsake the law praise the wicked; But they who keep the law contend with them.
5 অনিষ্টকারীরা যা উচিত তা বোঝে না, কিন্তু যারা সদাপ্রভুর খোঁজ করে তারা তা পুরোপুরি বুঝতে পারে।
Wicked men understand not equity; But they who seek the LORD understand all things.
6 যে ধনবানদের জীবনযাত্রার ধরন উচ্ছৃঙ্খল তাদের চেয়ে সেই দরিদ্রেরা ভালো যাদের জীবনযাত্রার ধরন অনিন্দনীয়।
Better is a poor man who walketh in uprightness, Than he who is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.
7 বিচক্ষণ ছেলে শিক্ষায় মনোযোগ দেয়, কিন্তু যে পেটুকদের সহচর সে তার বাবার মর্যাদাহানি করে।
He that keepeth the law is a wise son; But he that is the companion of prodigals bringeth shame on his father.
8 যে দরিদ্রদের কাছ থেকে সুদ নিয়ে বা লাভ করে সম্পত্তি বৃদ্ধি করে সে অন্য এমন একজনের জন্য তা জমিয়ে রাখে যে দরিদ্রদের প্রতি দয়ালু হবে।
He that increaseth his substance by usurious gain Gathereth it for him who will pity the poor.
9 যদি কেউ আমার দেওয়া শিক্ষার প্রতি কান বন্ধ করে রাখে, তবে তাদের প্রার্থনাও ঘৃণার্হ।
He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer shall be an abomination.
10 যারা ন্যায়পরায়ণদের কুপথে পরিচালিত করে তারা নিজেদের ফাঁদেই গিয়ে পড়বে, কিন্তু অনিন্দনীয়রা এক উপযুক্ত উত্তরাধিকার লাভ করবে।
He that causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way Shall himself fall into his own pit; But the upright shall have good things in possession.
11 ধনবানেরা নিজেদের দৃষ্টিতেই জ্ঞানবান; যারা দরিদ্র ও বিচক্ষণ তারা দেখতে পায় তারা কত বিভ্রান্ত।
The rich man is wise in his own conceit; But the poor man, who hath understanding, will search him through.
12 ধার্মিকেরা যখন বিজয়ী হয়, তখন মহোল্লাস হয়; কিন্তু দুষ্টেরা যখন ক্ষমতাসীন হয়, তখন মানুষ আড়ালে গিয়ে লুকায়।
When the righteous rejoice, there is great glorying; But, when the wicked are exalted, men hide themselves.
13 যারা নিজেদের পাপগুলি লুকায় তারা উন্নতি লাভ করতে পারে না, কিন্তু যারা সেগুলি স্বীকার ও ত্যাগ করে তারা দয়া লাভ করে।
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper; But he that confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
14 ধন্য তারাই যারা সবসময় ঈশ্বরের সামনে ভীত হয়, কিন্তু যারা তাদের হৃদয় কঠোর করে তারা বিপদে পড়বে।
Happy the man who feareth always! But he who hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.
15 অসহায় প্রজাদের উপর কর্তৃত্বকারী দুষ্ট শাসক গর্জনকারী সিংহ বা আক্রমণকারী ভালুকের মতো।
As a roaring lion and a hungry bear, So is a wicked ruler over a needy people.
16 অত্যাচারী শাসক অবৈধ জুলুম চালায়, কিন্তু যিনি অসৎ উপায়ে অর্জিত লাভ ঘৃণা করেন তিনি সুদীর্ঘকাল ধরে রাজত্ব করবেন।
The prince who is weak in understanding is great in oppression; But he who hateth unjust gain shall prolong his days.
17 যে হত্যার অপরাধবোধ দ্বারা নির্যাতিত হয় সে কবরে গিয়ে আশ্রয় নেয়; যেন কেউ তাকে ধরতে না পারে।
A man who is burdened with life-blood—Let him flee to the pit! let no man stay him!
18 যার চলন অনিন্দনীয় সে সুরক্ষিত থাকে, কিন্তু যার জীবনযাত্রার ধরন উচ্ছৃঙ্খল সে খাদে গিয়ে পড়বে।
He who walketh uprightly shall be safe; But he who is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.
19 যারা নিজেদের জমি চাষ করে তারা প্রচুর খাদ্য পাবে, কিন্তু যারা উদ্ভট কল্পনার পিছনে ছুটে বেড়ায় দারিদ্র তাদের সঙ্গী হয়।
He who tilleth his land shall have bread enough; And he that followeth after worthless persons shall have poverty enough.
20 বিশ্বস্ত লোক প্রচুর আশীর্বাদ লাভ করবে, কিন্তু যে ধনবান হওয়ার জন্য আগ্রহী হয় সে অদণ্ডিত থাকবে না।
A faithful man shall abound with blessings; But he that maketh haste to be rich shall not go unpunished.
21 মুখাপেক্ষা করা ভালো নয়— অথচ মানুষ এক টুকরো রুটির জন্যও অন্যায় করে।
To have respect to persons is not good; Since for a piece of bread that man will transgress.
22 কৃপণেরা ধনসম্পত্তি অর্জনের জন্য আগ্রহী হয় ও তারা জানেও না যে দারিদ্র তাদের জন্য অপেক্ষা করে আছে।
He who hath an evil eye hasteth after wealth, And considereth not that poverty will come upon him.
23 যে জিভ দিয়ে চাটুকারিতা করে তার তুলনায় বরং কোনো মানুষকে যে ভর্ৎসনা করে, শেষ পর্যন্ত সেই অনুগ্রহ লাভ করবে।
He who rebuketh a man shall afterwards find favor More than he who flattereth with his tongue.
24 যে মা-বাবার ধনসম্পদ চুরি করে ও বলে, “এ তো অন্যায় নয়,” সে তাদেরই অংশীদার, যারা ধ্বংসসাধন করে।
Whoso stealeth from his father or his mother, And saith, “It is no transgression,” The same is the companion of a robber.
25 লোভী মানুষেরা বিবাদ জাগিয়ে তোলে, কিন্তু যারা সদাপ্রভুতে নির্ভর করে তারা উন্নতি লাভ করবে।
He who is of a proud heart stirreth up strife; But he that trusteth in the LORD shall be rich.
26 যারা নিজেদের উপর নির্ভর করে তারা মূর্খ, কিন্তু যারা জ্ঞানের পথে চলে তারা নিরাপদ থাকবে।
He who trusteth in his own understanding is a fool; But he who walketh wisely shall be delivered.
27 যারা দরিদ্রদের দান করে তাদের কোনো কিছুর অভাব হয় না, কিন্তু যারা তাদের দেখে চোখ বন্ধ করে থাকে তারা প্রচুর অভিশাপ কুড়ায়।
He who giveth to the poor shall not want; But he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.
28 দুষ্টেরা যখন ক্ষমতাসীন হয়, মানুষ তখন আড়ালে গিয়ে লুকায়, কিন্তু দুষ্টেরা যখন বিনষ্ট হয়, তখন ধার্মিকেরা সমৃদ্ধশালী হয়।
When the wicked are exalted, men hide themselves; But, when they perish, the righteous increase.
