হিতোপদেশ 24
1 দুষ্টদের প্রতি হিংসা কোরো না, তাদের সঙ্গলাভের বাসনা রেখো না;
Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
2 কারণ তাদের হৃদয় হিংস্রতার চক্রান্ত করে, ও তাদের ঠোঁট অশান্তি উৎপন্ন করার কথা বলে।
For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
3 প্রজ্ঞা দ্বারাই গৃহ নির্মাণ হয়, ও বিচক্ষণতার মাধ্যমে তা প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়;
Through wisdom is a house built; and by understanding it is established:
4 জ্ঞানের মাধ্যমে সেটির ঘরগুলি দুষ্প্রাপ্য ও সুন্দর সুন্দর সম্পদে পরিপূর্ণ হয়।
And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
5 জ্ঞানবানেরা মহাশক্তির মাধ্যমে জয়ী হয়, ও যাদের জ্ঞান আছে তারা তাদের শক্তিবৃদ্ধি করে।
A wise man [is] strong; and a man of knowledge increaseth strength.
6 নিশ্চয় যুদ্ধ শুরু করার জন্য তোমার জ্ঞানগর্ভ পরিচালনা প্রয়োজন, ও অনেক পরামর্শদাতার মাধ্যমেই যুদ্ধজয় করা যায়।
For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counselors [there is] safety.
7 মূর্খদের জন্য প্রজ্ঞা খুবই গুরুভার; নগরদ্বারে নেতাদের সমাজে উপস্থিত থাকাকালীন তারা যেন মুখ না খোলে।
Wisdom [is] too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.
8 যে অনিষ্টের চক্রান্ত করে সে এক কুচক্রী বলে পরিচিত হবে।
He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.
9 মূর্খের চক্রান্তগুলি পাপময়, ও মানুষজন বিদ্রুপকারীকে ঘৃণা করে।
The thought of foolishness [is] sin: and the scorner [is] an abomination to men.
10 সংকটকালে তুমি যদি ভয়ে পশ্চাদগামী হও, তবে তোমার শক্তি কতই না কম!
[If] thou faintest in the day of adversity, thy strength [is] small.
11 যারা মৃত্যুর দিকে চালিত হচ্ছে তাদের উদ্ধার করো; যারা টলতে টলতে বধ্যভূমির দিকে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে তাদের আটকে রাখো।
If thou forbearest to deliver [them that are] drawn to death, and [those that are] ready to be slain;
12 তুমি যদি বলো, “আমার তো এই বিষয়ে কিছুই জানা নেই,” তবে যিনি অন্তর মাপেন তিনি কি তা বুঝবেন না? যিনি তোমার জীবন পাহারা দেন তিনি কি জানতে পারবেন না? তিনি কি প্রত্যেককে তাদের কর্ম অনুযায়ী প্রতিফল দেবেন না?
If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider [it]? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth [not] he know [it]? and will [not] he render to [every] man according to his works?
13 হে আমার বাছা, মধু খাও, কারণ তা উপকারী; মৌচাকের মধুর স্বাদ তোমার কাছে মিষ্টি লাগবে।
My son, eat thou honey, because [it is] good; and the honey-comb, [which is] sweet to thy taste:
14 একথাও মনে রেখো যে প্রজ্ঞা তোমার পক্ষে মধুর মতো: তুমি যদি তা খুঁজে পাও, তবে তোমার জন্য ভবিষ্যৎকালীন এক আশা আছে, ও তোমার আশা বিচ্ছিন্ন করা হবে না।
So [shall] the knowledge of wisdom [be] to thy soul: when thou hast found [it], then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
15 ধার্মিকদের বাড়ির কাছে চোরের মতো ওৎ পেতে থেকো না, তাদের বাসস্থানে লুটপাট চালিয়ো না;
Lay not wait, O wicked [man], against the dwelling of the righteous; destroy not his resting-place:
16 কারণ ধার্মিকেরা সাতবার পড়লেও, তারা আবার উঠে দাঁড়াবে, কিন্তু যখন চরম দুর্দশা আঘাত হানে তখন দুষ্টেরা হোঁচট খায়।
For a just [man] falleth seven times, and riseth again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
17 তোমার শত্রুর পতনে উল্লসিত হোয়ো না; তারা যখন হোঁচট খায়, তখন তোমার অন্তরকে আনন্দিত হতে দিয়ো না।
Rejoice not when thy enemy falleth, and let not thy heart be glad when he stumbleth:
18 পাছে সদাপ্রভু দেখেন ও অসন্তুষ্ট হন ও তাদের দিক থেকে তাঁর ক্রোধ ফিরিয়ে নেন।
Lest the LORD see [it], and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
19 অনিষ্টকারীদের কারণে ধৈর্যচ্যুত হোয়ো না, বা দুষ্টদের প্রতি হিংসা কোরো না।
Fret not thyself because of evil [men], neither be thou envious at the wicked;
20 কারণ অনিষ্টকারীদের ভবিষ্যৎকালীন কোনো আশা নেই, ও দুষ্টদের প্রদীপ নিভিয়ে ফেলা হবে।
For there shall be no reward to the evil [man]; the candle of the wicked shall be extinguished.
21 হে আমার বাছা, সদাপ্রভুকে ও রাজাকেও ভয় করো, ও বিদ্রোহী কর্মকর্তাদের দলে যোগ দিয়ো না,
My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: [and] meddle not with them that are given to change:
22 কারণ তারা উভয়েই তাদের উপরে আকস্মিক বিনাশ পাঠাবেন, ও কে জানে, তারা কী চরম দুর্দশা নিয়ে আসবেন?
For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
23 এগুলিও জ্ঞানবানদের বলা নীতিবচন: বিচারে পক্ষপাতিত্ব দেখানো উচিত নয়:
These [things] also [belong] to the wise. [It is] not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
24 যে অপরাধীদের বলে, “তুমি নির্দোষ,” সে লোকজনের দ্বারা অভিশপ্ত হবে ও জাতিদের দ্বারা নিন্দিত হবে।
He that saith to the wicked, Thou [art] righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:
25 কিন্তু যারা অপরাধীদের দোষী সাব্যস্ত করে তাদের মঙ্গল হবে, ও তাদের উপরে প্রচুর আশীর্বাদ বর্ষিত হবে।
But to them that rebuke [him] shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
26 সরল উত্তর ঠোঁটে লেগে থাকা এক চুমুর মতো।
[Every man] shall kiss [his] lips that giveth a right answer.
27 তোমার বাইরের কাজকর্ম সেরে ফেলো ও ক্ষেতজমি তৈরি করে রাখো; তারপর, তোমার গৃহ নির্মাণ করো।
Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thy house.
28 অকারণে তোমার প্রতিবেশীর বিরুদ্ধে সাক্ষ্য দিয়ো না— বিপথে চালিত করার জন্য তুমি কি তোমার ঠোঁট ব্যবহার করবে?
Be not a witness against thy neighbor without cause; and deceive [not] with thy lips.
29 একথা বোলো না, “তারা আমার প্রতি যা করেছে আমিও তাদের প্রতি তাই করব; তাদের কর্মের প্রতিফল আমি তাদের ফিরিয়ে দেব।”
Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.
30 আমি অলসের ক্ষেতজমির পাশ দিয়ে গেলাম, এমন একজনের দ্রাক্ষাক্ষেতের পাশ দিয়ে গেলাম যার কোনও বোধশক্তি নেই;
I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
31 সর্বত্র কাঁটাগাছ জন্মেছে, জমি আগাছায় ভরে গিয়েছে, ও পাথরের প্রাচীর ধ্বংসস্তূপে পরিণত হয়েছে।
And lo, it was all grown over with thorns, [and] nettles had covered the face of it, and its stone wall was broken down.
32 আমি যা লক্ষ্য করেছিলাম তা নিয়ে একটু ভাবলাম ও যা দেখেছিলাম তা থেকে এই শিক্ষা পেলাম:
Then I saw, [and] considered [it] well: I looked upon [it], [and] received instruction.
33 আর একটু ঘুম, আর একটু তন্দ্রা, হাত পা গুটিয়ে আরও কিছুক্ষণ বিশ্রাম নেওয়া—
[Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
34 ও দারিদ্র এক চোরের মতো ও অভাব এক সশস্ত্র সৈনিকের মতো তোমার উপরে এসে পড়বে।
So shall thy poverty come [as] one that traveleth; and thy want as an armed man.
