হিতোপদেশ 20
1 দ্রাক্ষারস বিদ্রুপকারী ও সুরা কলহকারী; যে এগুলির দ্বারা বিপথগামী হয় সে জ্ঞানবান নয়।
Wine [is] a scorner—strong drink [is] noisy, And any going astray in it is not wise.
2 রাজার ক্রোধ সিংহের গর্জনের মতো আতঙ্ক ছড়ায়; যারা তাঁকে ক্রুদ্ধ করে তোলে তারা তাদের প্রাণ খোয়ায়।
The fear of a king [is] a growl as of a young lion, He who is causing him to be angry is wronging his soul.
3 বিবাদ এড়িয়ে চলা মানুষের পক্ষে সম্মানজনক বিষয়, কিন্তু মূর্খমাত্রই চট্জলদি বিবাদ করে ফেলে।
Cessation from strife is an honor to a man, And every fool interferes.
4 অলসেরা যথাসময়ে লাঙ্গল চষে না; অতএব ফসল কাটার সময় তারা চেয়ে দেখে কিন্তু কিছুই পায় না।
The slothful does not plow because of winter, He asks in harvest, and there is nothing.
5 মানুষের অন্তরের অভিপ্রায় গভীর জলরাশি, কিন্তু যে বিচক্ষণ সেই তা তুলে আনে।
Counsel in the heart of a man [is] deep water, And a man of understanding draws it up.
6 অনেকেই দাবি করে যে তাদের ভালোবাসা অফুরান, কিন্তু বিশ্বস্ত লোক কে খুঁজে পায়?
A multitude of men each proclaim his kindness, And a man of steadfastness who finds?
7 ধার্মিকেরা অনিন্দনীয় জীবনযাপন করে; তাদের পরে তাদের সন্তানেরাও আশীর্বাদধন্য হয়।
The righteous is habitually walking in his integrity, O the blessedness of his sons after him!
8 রাজা যখন বিচার করার জন্য তাঁর সিংহাসনে বসেন, তখন তিনি তাঁর চোখ দিয়ে সব অমঙ্গল উড়িয়ে দেন।
A king sitting on a throne of judgment, Is scattering all evil with his eyes,
9 কে বলতে পারে, “আমি আমার অন্তর বিশুদ্ধ রেখেছি; আমি শুচিশুদ্ধ ও নিষ্পাপ”?
Who says, “I have purified my heart, I have been cleansed from my sin?”
10 বিসদৃশ বাটখারা ও বিসদৃশ মাপ— সদাপ্রভু উভয়ই ঘৃণা করেন।
A stone and a stone, an ephah and an ephah, Even both of them [are] an abomination to YHWH.
11 ছোটো ছোটো ছেলেমেয়েরাও তাদের কাজকর্মের দ্বারা পরিচিত হয়, তাই তাদের আচরণ কি সত্যিই বিশুদ্ধ ও ন্যায্য?
Even by his actions a youth makes himself known, Whether his work is pure or upright.
12 যে কান শোনে ও যে চোখ দেখে— সদাপ্রভু উভয়ই তৈরি করেছেন।
A hearing ear, and a seeing eye—YHWH has even made both of them.
13 ঘুম ভালোবেসো না পাছে তুমি দরিদ্র হয়ে যাও; জেগে থাকো ও তোমার কাছে অতিরিক্ত খাদ্যদ্রব্য থাকবে।
Do not love sleep, lest you become poor, Open your eyes—be satisfied [with] bread.
14 “এটি ভালো নয়, এটি ভালো নয়!” ক্রেতা বলে— পরে ফিরে যায় ও সংগৃহীত বস্তুটি নিয়ে গর্ববোধ করে।
“Bad, bad,” says the buyer, And then he boasts himself going his way.
15 সেখানে সোনা আছে, ও প্রচুর পরিমাণে মণিমুক্তো আছে, কিন্তু যে ঠোঁট জ্ঞানের কথা বলে তা দুর্লভ এক রত্ন।
Substance, gold, and a multitude of rubies, Indeed, a precious vessel, [are] lips of knowledge.
16 যে এক আগন্তুকের জামিনদার হয়েছে তার পোশাকটি নিয়ে নাও; তা যদি এক বহিরাগতের জন্য করা হয়েছে, তবে সেটি বন্ধকরূপে রেখে দাও।
When a stranger has been guarantor, take his garment, And pledge it for strangers.
17 প্রতারণার দ্বারা অর্জিত খাদ্যদ্রব্য সুস্বাদু লাগে, কিন্তু শেষ পর্যন্ত মানুষের মুখ কাঁকরে ভরে যায়।
The bread of falsehood [is] sweet to a man, And afterward his mouth is filled [with] gravel.
18 পরামর্শ খোঁজ করার দ্বারাই পরিকল্পনা সফল হয়; অতএব তুমি যদি যুদ্ধ শুরু করেছ, তবে পরিচালনা লাভ করো।
You establish purposes by counsel, And with plans you make war.
19 পরনিন্দা পরচর্চা আস্থা ভঙ্গ করে; অতএব সেই লোককে এড়িয়ে চলো যে অতিরিক্ত কথাবার্তা বলে।
The busybody is a revealer of secret counsels, And do not make yourself guarantor for a deceiver [with] his lips.
20 যদি কেউ তাদের মা-বাবাকে অভিশাপ দেয়, তবে ঘোর অন্ধকারে তাদের প্রদীপ নিভে যাবে।
Whoever is vilifying his father and his mother, his lamp is extinguished in blackness of darkness.
21 যে উত্তরাধিকার খুব তাড়াতাড়ি অর্জন করা যায় তা শেষ পর্যন্ত আর আশীর্বাদধন্য হবে না।
An inheritance gotten wrongly at first, Even its latter end is not blessed.
22 একথা বোলো না, “আমি এই অন্যায়ের প্রতিশোধ নেব!” সদাপ্রভুর অপেক্ষা করো, ও তিনিই তোমার হয়ে প্রতিশোধ নেবেন।
Do not say, “I repay evil,” Wait for YHWH, and He delivers you.
23 সদাপ্রভু বিসদৃশ বাটখারা ঘৃণা করেন, ও অসাধু দাঁড়িপাল্লা তাঁকে সন্তুষ্ট করে না।
A stone and a stone [are] an abomination to YHWH, And balances of deceit [are] not good.
24 মানুষের পদক্ষেপ সদাপ্রভু দ্বারাই পরিচালিত হয়। তবে মানুষ কীভাবে তাদের নিজস্ব পথ বুঝতে পারবে?
The steps of a man [are] from YHWH, And man—how does he understand his way?
25 হঠাৎ করে কোনো কিছু উৎসর্গ করে পরে নিজের করা প্রতিজ্ঞার বিষয়ে বিবেচনা করলে, তা এক ফাঁদ হয়ে দাঁড়ায়।
A snare to a man [that] he has swallowed a holy thing, And to make inquiry after vows.
26 জ্ঞানবান রাজা দুষ্টদের ঝেড়ে ফেলেন; তিনি তাদের উপর দিয়ে শস্য মাড়াই কলের চাকা চালিয়ে দেন।
A wise king is scattering the wicked, And turns the wheel back on them.
27 মানবাত্মা সদাপ্রভুর সেই প্রদীপ যা মানুষের অন্তরের অন্তস্থলে আলোকপাত করে।
The breath of man [is] a lamp of YHWH, Searching all the inner parts of the heart.
28 ভালোবাসা ও বিশ্বস্ততা রাজাকে নিরাপদ রাখে; ভালোবাসার মাধ্যমেই তাঁর সিংহাসন দৃঢ় হয়।
Kindness and truth keep a king, And he has supported his throne by kindness.
29 যুবকদের গৌরব হল তাদের শক্তি, পাকা চুলই হল বৃদ্ধদের ঐশ্বর্য।
The beauty of young men is their strength, And the honor of old men is grey hairs.
30 আঘাত ও ক্ষত অনিষ্ট ধুয়ে দেয়, ও মারধর অন্তরের অন্তস্থলকে বিশোধিত করে।
Blows that wound cleanse away evil, Also the scourges of the inner parts of the heart!
