হিতোপদেশ 19
1 যে মূর্খের ঠোঁট উচ্ছৃঙ্খল তার চেয়ে সেই দরিদ্রই ভালো যার জীবনযাত্রার ধরন অনিন্দনীয়।
Better [is] the poor walking in his integrity, Than the perverse [in] his lips—who [is] a fool.
2 জ্ঞানবিহীন বাসনা ভালো নয়— হঠকারী পদযুগল আরও কত না বেশি পথ হারাবে!
Also, without knowledge the soul [is] not good, And the hasty in feet is sinning.
3 মানুষের নিজেদের মূর্খামিই তাদের সর্বনাশের দিকে ঠেলে দেয়, অথচ তাদের অন্তর সদাপ্রভুর বিরুদ্ধে ক্ষিপ্ত হয়ে ওঠে।
The folly of man perverts his way, And his heart is angry against YHWH.
4 ধনসম্পদ অনেক বন্ধু আকর্ষণ করে, কিন্তু দরিদ্র লোকজনের বন্ধুরাও তাদের পরিত্যাগ করে।
Wealth adds many friends, And the poor is separated from his neighbor.
5 মিথ্যাসাক্ষী অদণ্ডিত থাকবে না, ও যে মিথ্যা কথার স্রোত বইয়ে দেয় সে নিষ্কৃতি পাবে না।
A false witness is not acquitted, Whoever breathes out lies is not delivered.
6 অনেকেই শাসকের তোষামুদি করে, ও যিনি উপহার দান করেন সবাই তাঁর বন্ধু হয়।
Many beg the face of the noble, And all have made friendship to a man of gifts.
7 দরিদ্রদের সব আত্মীয়স্বজন যখন তাদের এড়িয়ে চলে— তখন তাদের বন্ধুরাও তো আরও বেশি করে তাদের কাছ থেকে দূরে সরে যাবে! যদিও দরিদ্রেরা অনুনয়-বিনয় করে তাদের পশ্চাদ্ধাবন করে, তাদের কিন্তু কোথাও খুঁজে পাওয়া যায় না।
All the brothers of the poor have hated him, Surely his friends have also been far from him, He is pursuing words—they are not!
8 যে জ্ঞানার্জন করে সে জীবন ভালোবাসে; যে বিচক্ষণতা পোষণ করে সে অচিরেই উন্নতি লাভ করবে।
Whoever is getting heart is loving his soul, He is keeping understanding to find good.
9 মিথ্যাসাক্ষী অদণ্ডিত থাকবে না, ও যে মিথ্যা কথার স্রোত বইয়ে দেয় তার সর্বনাশ হবে।
A false witness is not acquitted, And whoever breathes out lies perishes.
10 মূর্খের পক্ষে যখন বিলাসিতার জীবনযাপন করা বাঞ্ছনীয় নয়— তখন ক্রীতদাসের পক্ষে অধিপতিদের উপরে প্রভুত্ব করা আরও কত না মন্দ বিষয়।
Luxury is not fitting for a fool, Much less for a servant to rule among princes.
11 মানুষের প্রজ্ঞা ধৈর্য উৎপন্ন করে; অপরাধ মার্জনা করা তার পক্ষে গৌরবের বিষয়।
The wisdom of a man has deferred his anger, And his glory [is] to pass over transgression.
12 রাজার ক্রোধ সিংহের গর্জনের মতো, কিন্তু তাঁর অনুগ্রহ ঘাসের উপরে পড়া শিশিরের মতো।
The wrath of a king [is] a growl as of a young lion, And his goodwill as dew on the herb.
13 মূর্খ সন্তান বাবার সর্বনাশের কারণ, ও কলহপ্রিয়া স্ত্রী ফাটা ছাদ থেকে একটানা পড়তে থাকা জলের সমতুল্য।
A foolish son [is] a calamity to his father, And the contentions of a wife [are] a continual dropping.
14 বাড়িঘর ও ধনসম্পদ মা-বাবার কাছ থেকে উত্তরাধিকারসূত্রে পাওয়া যায়, কিন্তু বিচক্ষণ স্ত্রী সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকেই পাওয়া যায়।
House and wealth [are] the inheritance of fathers, And an understanding wife [is] from YHWH.
15 অলসতা অগাধ ঘুম নিয়ে আসে, ও অপারদর্শী মানুষ ক্ষুধার্তই থেকে যায়।
Sloth causes deep sleep to fall, And an indolent soul hungers.
16 যারা আজ্ঞা পালন করে তারা তাদের প্রাণরক্ষা করে, কিন্তু যারা তাদের জীবনযাত্রার ধরনকে উপেক্ষা করে তারা মারা যাবে।
Whoever is keeping the command is keeping his soul, Whoever is despising His ways dies.
17 যারা দরিদ্রদের প্রতি দয়া দেখায় তারা সদাপ্রভুকেই ঋণ দেয়, ও তারা যা করেছে সেজন্য সদাপ্রভু তাদের পুরস্কৃত করবেন।
Whoever is lending [to] YHWH is favoring the poor, And He repays his deed to him.
18 তোমার সন্তানদের শাসন করো, কারণ এতে আশা আছে, তাদের মৃত্যুর জন্য দায়ী হোয়ো না।
Discipline your son, for there is hope, And do not lift up your soul to put him to death.
19 উগ্রস্বভাব বিশিষ্ট মানুষকে অবশ্যই দণ্ড পেতে হবে; তাদের উদ্ধার করো, ও তোমাকে আবার তা করতে হবে।
A man of great wrath is bearing punishment, For if you deliver, yet again you add.
20 পরামর্শ শোনো ও শৃঙ্খলা গ্রহণ করো, ও শেষ পর্যন্ত তুমি জ্ঞানবানদের মধ্যে গণ্য হবে।
Hear counsel and receive instruction, So that you are wise in your latter end.
21 মানুষের অন্তরে অনেক পরিকল্পনা থাকে, কিন্তু সদাপ্রভুর অভীষ্টই প্রবল হয়।
The purposes in a man’s heart [are] many, And the counsel of YHWH—it stands.
22 একজন মানুষ যা চায় তা হল অফুরান ভালোবাসা; মিথ্যাবাদী হওয়ার চেয়ে দরিদ্র হওয়া ভালো।
The desirableness of a man [is] his kindness, And the poor [is] better than a liar.
23 সদাপ্রভুর ভয় জীবনের দিকে নিয়ে যায়; তখন একজন মানুষ সন্তুষ্ট থাকে, আকস্মিক দুর্দশা তাকে স্পর্শ করতে পারে না।
The fear of YHWH [is] to life, And he remains satisfied—he is not charged with evil.
24 অলস তার হাত থালায় ডুবিয়ে রাখে; সে এতই অলস যে তা মুখেও তোলে না।
The slothful has hidden his hand in a dish, Even to his mouth he does not bring it back.
25 বিদ্রুপকারীকে কশাঘাত করো, ও অনভিজ্ঞ লোকেরা বিচক্ষণতার শিক্ষা পাবে; বিচক্ষণদের ভর্ৎসনা করো, ও তারা জ্ঞানার্জন করবে।
Strike a scorner, and the simple acts prudently, And give reproof to the intelligent, He understands knowledge.
26 যারা তাদের বাবার সম্পদ লুট করে ও তাদের মাকে তাড়িয়ে দেয় তারা এমন এক সন্তান যে লজ্জা ও অপমান বয়ে আনে।
Whoever is spoiling a father causes a mother to flee, A son causing shame, and bringing confusion.
27 হে আমার বাছা, তুমি যদি শিক্ষা নেওয়া বন্ধ করে দাও, তবে তুমি জ্ঞানের বাক্য থেকে দূরে সরে যাবে।
Cease, my son, to hear instruction—To err from sayings of knowledge.
28 বিকৃতমনা সাক্ষী ন্যায়বিচারকে বিদ্রুপ করে, ও দুষ্টদের মুখ অমঙ্গল গ্রাস করে নেয়।
A worthless witness scorns judgment, And the mouth of the wicked swallows iniquity.
29 বিদ্রুপকারীদের জন্য শাস্তিবিধান তৈরি হয়, ও মূর্খদের পিঠের জন্য তৈরি হয় মারধর।
Judgments have been prepared for scorners, And stripes for the back of fools!
