হিতোপদেশ 14
1 জ্ঞানবতী মহিলা তার বাড়ি গেঁথে তোলে, কিন্তু মূর্খ মহিলা নিজের হাতে তার বাড়ি ভেঙে ফেলে।
The wise woman buildeth her house; But the foolish teareth it down with her hands.
2 যে সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় করে সে সৎভাবে চলে, কিন্তু যারা তাঁকে অবজ্ঞা করে তারা তাদের পথে সর্পিল।
He who walketh in uprightness feareth the LORD; But he who is perverse in his ways despiseth him.
3 মূর্খের মুখ দিয়ে অহংকারের বাক্যবাণ বর্ষিত হয়, কিন্তু জ্ঞানবানদের ঠোঁট তাদের রক্ষা করে।
In the mouth of the foolish pride is a scourge; But the lips of the wise preserve them.
4 বলদ না থাকলে জাবপাত্রও পরিষ্কার থাকে, কিন্তু বলদের ক্ষমতাতেই প্রচুর ফসল উৎপাদন হয়।
Where there are no oxen, the crib is clean; But there is great increase by the strength of the ox.
5 বিশ্বস্ত সাক্ষী প্রতারণা করে না, কিন্তু মিথ্যাসাক্ষী মিথ্যা কথা উগরে দেয়।
A faithful witness doth not lie; But a false witness poureth forth lies.
6 বিদ্রুপকারীরা প্রজ্ঞার খোঁজ করে ও কিছুই খুঁজে পায় না, কিন্তু বিচক্ষণদের কাছে জ্ঞান সহজলভ্য হয়।
The scoffer seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not; But knowledge is easy to the man of understanding.
7 মূর্খের কাছ থেকে দূরে সরে থাকো, কারণ তাদের ঠোঁটে তুমি জ্ঞান খুঁজে পাবে না।
Go from the presence of a foolish man; For thou hast not perceived in him the lips of knowledge.
8 বিচক্ষণ ব্যক্তিদের প্রজ্ঞাই তাদের পথের দিশা নির্দেশ দেয়, কিন্তু মূর্খদের মূর্খতাই হল প্রতারণা।
The wisdom of the prudent is in giving heed to his way; But the folly of fools is deceit.
9 পাপের জন্য কাউকে ক্ষতিপূরণ করতে দেখে মূর্খ ব্যঙ্গবিদ্রুপ করে, কিন্তু ন্যায়পরায়ণদের কাছে মঙ্গলকামনা পাওয়া যায়।
Fools make a mock at sin; But with the upright is favor.
10 প্রত্যেক অন্তঃকরণ তার নিজের জ্বালা জানে, আর কেউ তার আনন্দের ভাগী হতে পারে না।
The heart knoweth its own bitterness. And a stranger cannot intermeddle with its joy.
11 দুষ্টদের বাড়ি ধ্বংস হয়ে যাবে, কিন্তু ন্যায়পরায়ণদের তাঁবু উন্নতি লাভ করবে।
The house of the wicked shall be destroyed; But the tent of the upright shall flourish.
12 একটি পথ আছে যা সঠিক বলে মনে হয়, কিন্তু শেষ পর্যন্ত তা মৃত্যুর দিকে নিয়ে যায়।
There is a way which seemeth right to a man, But its end is the way to death.
13 অট্টহাসির মধ্যেও হৃদয়ে ব্যথা হতে পারে, ও আনন্দ শেষ পর্যন্ত বিষাদে পরিণত হতে পারে।
Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful, And the end of joy is grief.
14 অবিশ্বাসীরা তাদের আচরণের জন্য প্রাপ্য ফলভোগ করবে, ও সৎলোকেরা তাদের আচরণের জন্য পুরস্কৃত হবে।
The perverse in heart shall be filled with his own ways; And from himself shall the good man be satisfied.
15 অনভিজ্ঞ মানুষ সব কথাই বিশ্বাস করে, কিন্তু বিচক্ষণ লোকেরা খুব ভেবেচিন্তে পদক্ষেপ নেয়।
The simple man believeth every word; But the prudent looketh well to his steps.
16 জ্ঞানবানেরা সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় করে ও মন্দকে এড়িয়ে চলে, কিন্তু মূর্খেরা উগ্রস্বভাব অথচ নিরাপদ বোধ করে।
The wise man feareth, and departeth from evil; But the fool is haughty and confident.
17 বদরাগি লোক মূর্খের মতো কাজ করে, ও যে দুষ্ট ফন্দি আঁটে সে ঘৃণিত হয়।
He who is hasty in his anger will commit folly; And the man of wicked devices will be hated.
18 অনভিজ্ঞ লোকেরা উত্তরাধিকারসূত্রে মূর্খতা লাভ করে, কিন্তু বিচক্ষণেরা জ্ঞান-মুকুটে বিভূষিত হয়।
The simple inherit folly; But the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
19 অনিষ্টকারীরা সুজনদের সামনে, এবং দুষ্টেরা ধার্মিকদের দরজায় এসে মাথা নত করবে।
The evil bow before the good; Yea, the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
20 দরিদ্রেরা তাদের প্রতিবেশীদের দ্বারাও অবজ্ঞাত হয়, কিন্তু ধনবানদের প্রচুর বন্ধু থাকে।
The poor is hated even by his own neighbor; But the rich hath many friends.
21 প্রতিবেশীকে অবজ্ঞা করা হল পাপ, কিন্তু ধন্য সেই জন যে অভাবগ্রস্তদের প্রতি দয়া দেখায়।
He who despiseth his neighbor sinneth; But happy is he who hath mercy on the poor.
22 যারা অনিষ্টের চক্রান্ত করে তারা কি বিপথগামী হয় না? কিন্তু যারা মঙ্গলের পরিকল্পনা করে তারা ভালোবাসা ও বিশ্বস্ততা লাভ করে।
Do not they who devise evil fail of their end? But they who devise good meet with kindness and truth.
23 সব কঠোর পরিশ্রমই লাভের মুখ দেখে, কিন্তু নিছক কথাবার্তা শুধু দারিদ্রই নিয়ে আসে।
In all labor there is profit; But the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.
24 জ্ঞানবানদের ধন তাদের মুকুট, কিন্তু মূর্খদের মূর্খতা মূর্খতাই উৎপন্ন করে।
Riches are a crown to the wise; But the promotion of fools is folly.
25 সত্যবাদী সাক্ষী প্রাণরক্ষা করে, কিন্তু মিথ্যাসাক্ষী বিশ্বাসঘাতক হয়।
A true witness saveth lives; But a deceitful witness poureth forth lies.
26 যারা সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় করে তাদের কাছে এক নিরাপদ দুর্গ আছে, ও তাদের সন্তানদের জন্যও তা এক আশ্রয়স্থান হবে।
In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence; Yea, to his children he will be a refuge.
27 সদাপ্রভুর ভয় জীবনের উৎস, যা মানুষকে মৃত্যুর ফাঁদ থেকে ফিরিয়ে আনে।
The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life; By it men escape from the snares of death.
28 বিশাল জনসংখ্যা রাজার গরিমা, কিন্তু প্রজার অভাবে রাজপুরুষের সর্বনাশ হয়।
In a numerous people is the glory of a king; But the want of people is the destruction of a prince.
29 যে ধৈর্যশীল সে অত্যন্ত বিচক্ষণ, কিন্তু যে বদরাগি সে মূর্খতাই প্রকাশ করে ফেলে।
He who is slow to anger is of great understanding. But he who is of a hasty spirit setteth folly on high.
30 শান্ত হৃদয় দেহকেও সুস্থ রাখে, কিন্তু ঈর্ষা অস্থির পচনস্বরূপ।
A quiet heart is the life of the flesh; But the ferment of passion is rottenness to the bones.
31 যে দরিদ্রদের শোষণ করে সে তাদের সৃষ্টিকর্তাকে অপমান করে, কিন্তু যে দরিদ্রদের প্রতি দয়া দেখায় সে ঈশ্বরকে সম্মানিত করে।
He who oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker; But he who hath mercy on the poor honoreth him.
32 যখন চরম দুর্দশা ঘনিয়ে আসে, তখন দুষ্টেরা পতিত হয়, কিন্তু মরণকালেও ধার্মিকেরা ঈশ্বরেই আশ্রয় খোঁজে।
By his wickedness the wicked is thrust down; But the righteous hath hope even in death.
33 বিচক্ষণদের অন্তরে প্রজ্ঞা বিশ্রাম করে, ও মূর্খদের মধ্যেও সে নিজের আত্মপরিচয় দেয়।
Wisdom resteth quietly in the heart of the wise; But in the breast of fools it will be made known.
34 ধার্মিকতা জাতিকে উন্নত করে, কিন্তু পাপ যে কোনো লোককে নিন্দা করে।
Righteousness exalteth a people; But the reproach of nations is sin.
35 রাজা জ্ঞানবান দাসকে নিয়ে আনন্দ করেন, কিন্তু লজ্জাজনক দাস তাঁর প্রকোপ জাগিয়ে তোলে।
The king's favor is toward a wise servant; But his wrath is against him that causeth shame.
