হিতোপদেশ 12
1 যে শৃঙ্খলা ভালোবাসে সে জ্ঞানও ভালোবাসে, কিন্তু যে সংশোধন ঘৃণা করে সে বোকা।
Whoso loveth knowledge loveth correction; but he that is brutish hateth reproof.
2 সৎলোক সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকে অনুগ্রহ লাভ করে, কিন্তু যারা দুষ্ট ফন্দি আঁটে তিনি তাদের দোষী সাব্যস্ত করেন।
A good man shall obtain favour of the LORD; but a man of wicked devices will He condemn.
3 কেউই দুষ্টতার মাধ্যমে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হতে পারে না, কিন্তু ধার্মিকদের নির্মূল করা যায় না।
A man shall not be established by wickedness; but the root of the righteous shall never be moved.
4 উদারস্বভাব বিশিষ্ট স্ত্রী তার স্বামীর মুকুট, কিন্তু মর্যাদাহানিকর স্ত্রী স্বামীর অস্থির পচনস্বরূপ।
A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband; but she that doeth shamefully is as rottenness in his bones.
5 ধার্মিকদের পরিকল্পনাগুলি ন্যায়সংগত, কিন্তু দুষ্টদের পরামর্শ প্রতারণাপূর্ণ।
The thoughts of the righteous are right; but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
6 দুষ্টদের কথাবার্তা রক্তপাতের জন্য লুকিয়ে থাকে, কিন্তু ন্যায়পরায়ণদের কথাবার্তা তাদের রক্ষা করে।
The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood; but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
7 দুষ্টেরা পর্যুদস্ত হয় ও তারা নিশ্চিহ্ন হয়ে যায়, কিন্তু ধার্মিকদের বাড়ি অটল থাকে।
The wicked are overthrown, and are not; but the house of the righteous shall stand.
8 একজন মানুষ তার দূরদর্শিতা অনুসারেই প্রশংসিত হয়, ও যার মন পক্ষপাতদুষ্ট সে অবজ্ঞাত হয়।
A man shall be commended according to his intelligence; but he that is of a distorted understanding shall be despised.
9 কেউকেটা হওয়ার ভান করে নিরন্ন হয়ে থাকার চেয়ে বরং নগণ্য মানুষ হয়ে দাস রাখা ভালো।
Better is he that is lightly esteemed, and hath a servant, than he that playeth the man of rank, and lacketh bread.
10 ধার্মিকেরা তাদের পশুদের যত্ন নেয়, কিন্তু দুষ্টদের সদয় ব্যবহারও নিষ্ঠুরতামাত্র।
A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast; but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
11 যারা নিজেদের জমি চাষ করে তারা প্রচুর খাদ্য পাবে, কিন্তু যারা উদ্ভট কল্পনার পিছনে ছুটে বেড়ায় তাদের কোনও বোধবুদ্ধি নেই।
He that tilleth his ground shall have plenty of bread; but he that followeth after vain things is void of understanding.
12 দুষ্টেরা অনিষ্টকারীদের সুরক্ষিত আশ্রয় কামনা করে, কিন্তু ধার্মিকদের মূল স্থায়ী হয়।
The wicked desireth the prey of evil men; but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.
13 অনিষ্টকারীরা তাদের পাপে পরিপূর্ণ কথাবার্তা দ্বারাই ফাঁদে পড়ে, ও সেভাবেই নির্দোষ লোকজন বিপত্তি থেকে রক্ষা পায়।
In the transgression of the lips is a snare to the evil man; but the righteous cometh out of trouble.
14 মানুষ তাদের ঠোঁটের ফল দ্বারা মঙ্গলে পরিপূর্ণ হয়, ও তাদের হাতের কাজই তাদের পুরস্কৃত করে।
A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the doings of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.
15 মূর্খদের পথ তাদের কাছে ঠিক বলে মনে হয়, কিন্তু জ্ঞানবানেরা পরামর্শ শোনে।
The way of a fool is straight in his own eyes; but he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsel.
16 মূর্খেরা অবিলম্বে তাদের বিরক্তি প্রকাশ করে, কিন্তু বিচক্ষণ লোকেরা অপমান উপেক্ষা করে।
A fool's vexation is presently known; but a prudent man concealeth shame.
17 একজন সত্যবাদী সাক্ষী সত্যিকথা বলে, কিন্তু একজন মিথ্যাসাক্ষী মিথ্যা কথা বলে।
He that breatheth forth truth uttereth righteousness; but a false witness deceit.
18 অবিবেচকের কথা তরোয়ালের মতো বিদ্ধ করে, কিন্তু জ্ঞানবানের জিভ সুস্থতা নিয়ে আসে।
There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword; but the tongue of the wise is health.
19 সত্যবাদী ঠোঁট চিরকাল স্থায়ী হয়, কিন্তু মিথ্যাবাদী জিভ শুধু এক মুহূর্তের জন্য স্থায়ী হয়।
The lip of truth shall be established for ever; but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
20 যারা অমঙ্গলের চক্রান্ত করে তাদের অন্তরে ছলনা থাকে, কিন্তু যারা শান্তির উদ্যোক্তা হয় তারা আনন্দ পায়।
Deceit is in the heart of them that devise evil; but to the counsellors of peace is joy.
21 কোনও অনিষ্টই ধার্মিকদের আতঙ্কগ্রস্ত করে না, কিন্তু দুষ্টদের অসুবিধা ভোগ করতে হয়।
There shall no mischief befall the righteous; but the wicked are filled with evil.
22 সদাপ্রভু মিথ্যাবাদী ঠোঁট ঘৃণা করেন, কিন্তু যারা নির্ভরযোগ্য তাদের নিয়ে তিনি আনন্দ করেন।
Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD; but they that deal truly are His delight.
23 বিচক্ষণ লোকেরা তাদের জ্ঞান নিজেদের মধ্যেই সীমাবদ্ধ রাখে, কিন্তু মূর্খদের অন্তর মূর্খতা ফাঁস করে দেয়।
A prudent man concealeth knowledge; but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.
24 পরিশ্রমী হাত শাসন করবে, কিন্তু অলসতা শেষ পর্যন্ত বেগার শ্রমিকে পরিণত হয়।
The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; but the slothful shall be under tribute.
25 দুশ্চিন্তার ভারে অন্তর অবনত হয়, কিন্তু সৌজন্যমূলক একটি কথা সেটিকে উৎসাহিত করে।
Care in the heart of a man boweth it down; but a good word maketh it glad.
26 ধার্মিকেরা সতর্কতার সঙ্গে তাদের বন্ধু মনোনীত করে, কিন্তু দুষ্টেরা তাদের বিপথগামী করে।
The righteous is guided by his friend; but the way of the wicked leadeth them astray.
27 অলসেরা শিকার করা কোনো কিছু উনুনে সেঁকে না, কিন্তু পরিশ্রমীরা শিকারের ধন উপভোগ করে।
The slothful man shall not hunt his prey; but the precious substance of men is to be diligent.
28 ধার্মিকতার পথে জীবন আছে; সেই পথ বরাবর অমরতা আছে।
In the way of righteousness is life, and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
