গণনার বই 32

1 রূবেণ ও গাদ গোষ্ঠীর খুব বড়ো বড়ো গোপাল ও মেষপাল ছিল। তারা দেখল যে যাসের ও গিলিয়দ অঞ্চল পশুপালনের জন্য উপযোগী।

Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle; and they saw the land of Ya'zer, and the land of Gil'ad, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle.

2 তারা মোশি, ও যাজক ইলিয়াসর এবং সমাজের নেতৃবর্গের কাছে এল এবং বলল,

And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben came, and said unto Moses, and unto Elazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, as followeth,

3 “অটারোৎ, দীবোন, যাসের, নিম্রা, হিষ্‌বোন, ইলিয়ালী, সেবাম, নেবো ও বিয়োন,

'Ataroth, and Dibon, and Ya'zer, and Nimrah, and Cheshbon, and El'aleh, and Sebam, and Nebo, and Be'on,

4 সদাপ্রভু ইস্রায়েলীদের সামনে যে সমস্ত অঞ্চলের পতন ঘটিয়েছেন, তা পশুপালের জন্য উপযোগী এবং আপনাদের সেবকদের কাছে পশুপাল আছে।

The country which the Lord hath smitten before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle; and thy servants have cattle.

5 যদি আমরা আপনাদের দৃষ্টিতে কৃপা লাভ করে থাকি,” তারা বলল, “তাহলে স্বত্বাধিকাররূপে এই ভূমি আমাদের দান করা হোক। আমাদের জর্ডনের অপর পারে যেতে বাধ্য করবেন না।”

And they said, If we have found grace in thy eyes, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession: do not compel us to go over the Jordan.

6 গাদ ও রূবেণ গোষ্ঠীর সবাইকে মোশি বললেন, “তোমাদের ইস্রায়েলী ভাইয়েরা যুদ্ধে যাবে আর তোমরা সবাই এখানে বসে থাকবে?

And Moses said unto the children of Gad, and unto the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to the war, and will ye sit here?

7 সদাপ্রভু যে দেশ ইস্রায়েলীদের দান করেছেন, তোমরা সেখানে যেতে কেন তাদের নিরুৎসাহ করছ?

And wherefore will you turn aside the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the Lord hath given them?

8 এরকমই কাজ তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষেরা করেছিল, যখন আমি কাদেশ-বর্ণেয় থেকে তাদের দেশ পর্যবেক্ষণ করতে পাঠিয়েছিলাম।

Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea' to see the land.

9 তারা ইষ্কোল উপত্যকা পর্যন্ত উঠে গিয়ে দেশ নিরীক্ষণ করে এসে, যে দেশ সদাপ্রভু তাদের দান করেছিলেন, সেই দেশে প্রবেশ করতে ইস্রায়েলীদের হতোদ্যম করেছিল।

For they went up as far as the valley of Eshcol, and they saw the land, and then they turned aside the heart of the children of Israel, so that they would not go into the land which the Lord had given them.

10 সেদিন সদাপ্রভুর ক্রোধ প্রজ্বলিত হয়েছিল এবং তিনি শপথ করে বলেছিলেন,

And the anger of the Lord was kindled on that day, and he swore, saying,

11 ‘যেহেতু তারা সর্বান্তঃকরণে আমার অনুগমন করেনি, তাই তাদের মধ্যে যাদের বয়স কুড়ি বছর বা তারও বেশি, যারা মিশর থেকে বেরিয়ে এসেছিল, তাদের মধ্যে একজনও সেই দেশে প্রবেশ করবে না, যে দেশ আমি অব্রাহাম, ইস্‌হাক ও যাকোবের নিকট দেওয়ার প্রতিজ্ঞা করেছিলাম।

Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:

12 কেবলমাত্র, কনিষীয়, যিফূন্নির ছেলে কালেব ও নূনের ছেলে যিহোশূয় ছাড়া, অন্য একজনও নয়, কারণ তারা সর্বান্তঃকরণে সদাপ্রভুর অনুগমন করেছিল।’

Save Caleb the son of Yephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun; for they have wholly followed the Lord.

13 ইস্রায়েলের বিপক্ষে সদাপ্রভুর ক্রোধ বহ্নিমান হয়েছিল, তিনি চল্লিশ বছর তাদের প্রান্তরে পরিভ্রমণ করিয়েছিলেন, যতদিন না সেই সম্পূর্ণ প্রজন্ম, যারা তার দৃষ্টিতে কুকাজ করেছিল, মারা গেল।

And the anger of the Lord was thus kindled against Israel, and he made them wander about in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation was spent, that had done the evil in the eyes of the Lord.

14 “এখন, পাপিষ্ঠ ব্যক্তিদের সন্তান তোমরা সকলে, যারা তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের স্থানে দণ্ডায়মান হয়েছে, ইস্রায়েলীদের বিপক্ষে সদাপ্রভুকে আরও বেশি রুষ্ট করছ।

And now, behold, ye are risen up in your father's stead, a new race of sinful men, to augment yet more the fierce anger of the Lord toward Israel.

15 যদি তোমরা তাঁর অনুগমন থেকে ফিরে আস, তিনি এই সমস্ত লোককে প্রান্তরে পরিত্যাগ করবেন এবং তোমরাই তাদের বিনাশের কারণ হবে।”

For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet longer leave them in the wilderness; and ye will thus be destruction to all this people.

16 তারা তখন তাঁর কাছে এসে বলল, “আমরা এখানে আমাদের পশুপালের জন্য খোঁয়াড় ও স্ত্রী-সন্তানদের জন্য নগর নির্মাণ করতে চাই।

And they came near unto him, and said, Sheepfolds will we build for our cattle here, and cities for our little ones;

17 তা সত্ত্বেও, আমরা অস্ত্রসজ্জিত হয়ে, ইস্রায়েলের পুরোভাগে যাব, যতদিন না তাদের গন্তব্য স্থানে নিয়ে যাই। এসময়, আমাদের স্ত্রী ও সন্তানেরা, দেশবাসীদের থেকে নিরাপত্তার জন্য সুরক্ষিত নগরে বসবাস করবে।

But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until that we have brought them unto their place; and our little ones shall dwell in the fortified cities, because of the inhabitants of the land.

18 যতক্ষণ না প্রত্যেক ইস্রায়েলী তাদের অধিকার লাভ করে, আমরা আমাদের বাড়িতে ফিরে যাব না,

We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have acquired for themselves every man his inheritance.

19 জর্ডনের অপর পাড়ে, আমরা তাদের সঙ্গে আর কোনো স্বত্বাধিকার গ্রহণ করব না, কারণ আমাদের স্বত্বাধিকার জর্ডনের পূর্বপাড়ে আমরা প্রাপ্ত হয়েছি।”

For we will not take possession with them on the other side of the Jordan, and farther on: when our inheritance hath come to us on this side of the Jordan eastward.

20 তখন মোশি তাদের বললেন, “যদি তোমরা সেরকম করো, সদাপ্রভুর সামনে যুদ্ধের জন্য যদি নিজেদের অস্ত্রসজ্জা গ্রহণ করো,

And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will arm yourselves before the Lord for the war;

21 যদি তোমাদের প্রত্যেক ব্যক্তি সদাপ্রভুর সামনে, সশস্ত্র হয়ে জর্ডনের অন্য পাড়ে যাও, যতক্ষণ না তিনি তাঁর শত্রুদের তাঁর সামনে থেকে বিতাড়িত করেন,

And every armed man of you will go over the Jordan before the Lord, until he have driven out his enemies from before him;

22 যখন দেশ, সদাপ্রভুর সামনে পদানত হবে, তখন তোমরা ফিরে আসতে পারো এবং সদাপ্রভু ও ইস্রায়েলীদের প্রতি বাধ্যবাধকতা থেকে মুক্ত হতে পারো। তখন সদাপ্রভুর সামনে এই ভূমির স্বত্বাধিকার, তোমাদের হবে।

And when, only after the land hath been subdued before the Lord, ye will return, and ye be thus guiltless before the Lord, and before Israel: then shall this land be yours for a possession before the Lord.

23 “কিন্তু এই কাজ করতে যদি অক্ষম হও, তোমরা সদাপ্রভুর বিপক্ষে পাপ করবে। তাহলে নিশ্চিত জেনো, তোমাদের পাপ তোমাদের ধরবে।

But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord; and ye shall experience the punishment of your sin which will overtake you.

24 তোমাদের স্ত্রী ও সন্তানদের জন্য নগর ও পশুপালের জন্য খোঁয়াড় নির্মাণ করো, কিন্তু যা শপথ করেছ, কাজেও তা পূর্ণ করবে।”

Build yourselves cities for your little ones, and folds for your flocks; and that which hath proceeded out of your mouth shall ye do.

25 গাদ ও রূবেণ গোষ্ঠী মোশিকে বলল, “আমদের প্রভু যেমন আদেশ দিলেন, আপনার দাস আমরা তাই করব।

And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben said unto Moses, as followeth, Thy servants will do as my Lord commandeth.

26 আমাদের স্ত্রী ও সন্তানেরা, মেষপাল ও গোপালসমূহ, গিলিয়দ অঞ্চলের এই সমস্ত নগরে অবস্থান করবে।

Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall remain there in the cities of Gil'ad;

27 কিন্তু আপনার দাসেরা, যুদ্ধের জন্য সশস্ত্র প্রত্যেক পুরুষ, সদাপ্রভুর সামনে যুদ্ধের জন্য জর্ডন পার হয়ে যাবে, যেমন আমাদের প্রভু বলেছেন।”

But thy servants will pass over, every one that is armed for the army, before the Lord, to the war, as my Lord speaketh.

28 মোশি তখন তাদের সম্বন্ধে, যাজক ইলিয়াসর, নূনের ছেলে যিহোশূয় এবং ইস্রায়েল গোষ্ঠীর বংশ-প্রধানদের আদেশ দিলেন।

And Moses commanded concerning them Elazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chiefs of the families of the tribes of the children of Israel;

29 তিনি তাদের বললেন, “যদি গাদ ও রূবেণ গোষ্ঠীর প্রত্যেক পুরুষ যুদ্ধের জন্য সসজ্জ হয়, সদাপ্রভুর সামনে তোমাদের সঙ্গে জর্ডন অতিক্রম করে, তাহলে দেশ যখন তোমাদের সামনে পদানত হবে, তখন স্বত্বাধিকারস্বরূপ তাদের গিলিয়দের ভূমি দান করবে।

And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben do pass with you over the Jordan, every one that is armed for the war, before the Lord, and the land shall be subdued before you: then shall ye give to them the land of Gil'ad for a possession;

30 কিন্তু সশস্ত্র হয়ে তারা যদি তোমাদের সঙ্গে জর্ডন অতিক্রম না করে, তাহলে তারা অবশ্যই তাদের স্বত্বাধিকার, কনানে, তোমাদের সঙ্গে লাভ করবে।”

But if they should not pass over armed with you, they shall take possessions among you in the land of Canaan.

31 গাদ ও রূবেণ গোষ্ঠী উত্তর দিল, “সদাপ্রভু যে রকম বলেছেন, আপনার দাসেরা সেরকমই করবে।

And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, That which the Lord hath spoken concerning thy servants, even so will we do.

32 আমরা সদাপ্রভুর সামনে, সশস্ত্র অবস্থায় পার হয়ে কনানে প্রবেশ করব, কিন্তু আমাদের অধিকারস্বরূপ স্বত্ব, জর্ডনের এই পাড়ে থাকবে।”

We will indeed pass over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, while ours remaineth the possession of our inheritance on this side of the Jordan.

33 তখন মোশি, গাদ গোষ্ঠী, রূবেণ গোষ্ঠী ও যোষেফের ছেলে মনঃশির অর্ধগোষ্ঠীকে, ইমোরীয় রাজা সীহোনের রাজ্য ও বাশনের রাজা ওগের রাজ্য দান করলেন। তাদের নগর সমেত সমস্ত দেশ ও তাদের সন্নিহিত অঞ্চলগুলিও দিলেন।

And Moses gave unto them, to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and to half the tribe of Menasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sichon, the king of the Emorites, and the kingdom of 'Og, the king of Bashan, the land, with its cities within the boundaries, the cities of the country round about.

34 গাদ গোষ্ঠী দীবোন, অটারোৎ, অরোয়ের,

And the children of Gad built Dibon, and 'Ataroth, and 'Aro'er,

35 অটারোৎ শোফন, যাসের, যগ্‌বিহ,

And 'Atroth-shophan, and Ya'zer, and Yogbehah.

36 বেথ-নিম্রা ও বেত-হারণ, সুরক্ষিত নগর এবং পশুপালের খোঁয়াড় নির্মাণ করল।

And Beth-nimrah, and Beth-haran, fortified cities, and folds for flocks,

37 আবার রূবেণ গোষ্ঠী হিষ্‌বোন, ইলিয়ালী ও কিরিয়াথয়িম,

And the children of Reuben built Cheshbon, and El'aleh, and Kiryathayim,

38 সেই সঙ্গে নেবো, বায়াল-মিয়োন (এই নামগুলি পরিবর্তিত হয়েছিল) এবং সিব্‌মা। এসব নগর তারা পুনর্নির্মাণ করে তাদের নামকরণ করল।

And Nebo, and Ba'al-me'on [their names being changed], and Shibmah; and they gave the former names unto the cities which they built.

39 মনঃশির ছেলে মাখীরের বংশধরেরা গিলিয়দে গিয়ে তা দখল করল ও যারা সেখানে ছিল, সেই ইমোরীয়দের বিতাড়িত করল।

And the children of Machir the son of Menasseh went to Gil'ad, and conquered it, and dispossessed the Emorites who were in it.

40 তাই মোশি, মনঃশির বংশধর মাখীরীয়দের গিলিয়দ দান করলেন। তারা সেখানেই উপনিবেশ স্থাপন করল।

And Moses gave Gil'ad unto Machir the son of Menasseh; and he dwelt therein.

41 মনঃশির বংশধর যায়ীরও তাদের উপনিবেশগুলি দখল করে সেগুলির নাম হব্বোথ-যায়ীর রাখলেন।

And Yair the son of Menasseh went and conquered the small towns thereof, and called them Chavoth-yair.

42 নোবহ, কনাৎ ও তার সন্নিহিত অঞ্চলগুলি দখল করে তার নিজের নামানুসারে তার নাম নোবহ রাখল।

And Nobach went and conquered Kenath, and the villages thereof, and called it Nobach, after his own name.
