নহিমিয়ের বই 6
1 সন্বল্লট, টোবিয়, আরবীয় গেশম ও আমাদের অন্য শত্রু যখন শুনতে পেল যে, আমি প্রাচীর গেঁথেছি এবং সেখানে কোনো ফাঁক নেই, যদিও তখনও আমি নগরদ্বারগুলির দরজা লাগাইনি।
And it came to pass, when it was reported to Sanballat and Tobiah and to Geshem the Arabian and to the rest of our enemies, that I had built the wall, and there was left therein no breach, —though, up to that time, the doors, had I not set up in the gates,
2 সন্বল্লট ও গেশম আমাকে এই কথা বলে পাঠাল “আসুন, আমরা ওনো সমস্থলীর কোনও গ্রামে মিলিত হই।” কিন্তু তারা আমার ক্ষতি করার ষড়যন্ত্র করছিল;
that Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying, Come! and let us meet together in the villages, in the valley of Ono, —But, they, were plotting to do me harm.
3 সেইজন্য আমি লোক পাঠিয়ে তাদের এই উত্তর দিলাম “আমি একটি বিশেষ দরকারি কাজ করছি এবং আমি নেমে যেতে পারি না। আমি কেন কাজ বন্ধ করে আপনাদের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করতে যাব?”
So I sent unto them messengers, saying, A great work, am, I, doing, and cannot come down, —wherefore should the work cease whilst I leave it, and come down unto you?
4 তারা চার বার একই সংবাদ আমাকে পাঠাল আর প্রত্যেকবার আমি তাদের একই উত্তর দিলাম।
Yet they sent unto me, according to this message, four times, —and I replied to them according to this answer.
5 তারপর, পঞ্চমবার, সন্বল্লট একই সংবাদ তার চাকরকে দিয়ে আমার কাছে পাঠাল, আর তার হাতে একটি খোলা চিঠি ছিল
Then Sanballat sent unto me, according to this message, a fifth time, by his young man, —with an open letter, in his hand:
6 যাতে লেখা ছিল: “জাতিগণের মধ্যে এই কথা শোনা যাচ্ছে, আর গেশমও বলেছে সেকথা সত্যি, যে আপনি ও ইহুদিরা বিদ্রোহের ষড়যন্ত্র করেছেন, আর সেইজন্য প্রাচীর গাঁথছেন। এছাড়া, এসব সংবাদ অনুসারে আপনি তাদের রাজা হতে যাচ্ছেন
wherein was written—Among the nations, it is reported, and, Gashmu, saith it, that, thou and the Jews, are plotting to rebel, for which cause, thou art building the wall, —and, thou, art to become their king, according to these words.
7 এবং জেরুশালেমে এই ঘোষণা করার জন্য আপনি ভাববাদীও নিযুক্ত করেছেন ‘যিহূদা দেশে একজন রাজা আছেন!’ এখন এই সংবাদ রাজার কাছে পৌঁছাবে; কাজেই আসুন, আমরা একত্র হয়ে পরামর্শ করি।”
Moreover also, prophets, hast thou set up to make proclamation concerning thee in Jerusalem, saying, He hath become king in Judah! Now, therefore, will it he reported to the king, according to these words. Now, therefore, come, and let us take counsel together.
8 আমি তাকে এই উত্তর পাঠালাম “আপনি যা বলছেন সেইরকম কিছুই হচ্ছে না, এটি আপনার মনগড়া কথা।”
Then sent I unto him, saying, Nothing hath been done, according to these words, which thou art saying, —but, out of thine own heart, art thou feigning them.
9 তারা সকলে আমাদের ভয় দেখবার চেষ্টা করছিল, মনে করছিল, “এই কাজ করার জন্য ওদের হাত দুর্বল হয়ে যাবে, এবং তা সম্পূর্ণ হবে না।” কিন্তু আমি প্রার্থনা করলাম, “এখন আমার হাত শক্তিশালী করো।”
For, they all, were seeking to put us in fear, saying, Their hands will slacken from the work, and it will not be accomplished. Now, therefore, strengthen thou my hands!
10 একদিন আমি দলায়ের ছেলে শময়িয়ের বাড়ি গেলাম, দলায় ছিল মহেটবেলের ছেলে। শময়িয় তার বাড়িতে বদ্ধ ছিল। সে বলল, “আসুন, আমরা ঈশ্বরের ঘরে, মন্দিরের ভিতরে একত্র হই, এবং মন্দিরের দ্বার বন্ধ করি, কারণ লোকেরা আপনাকে হত্যা করার জন্য আসছে, রাত্রেই আপনাকে হত্যা করতে আসবে।”
When, I, came into the house of Shemaiah, son of Delaiah, son of Mehetabel, he, being shut in, he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, in the midst of the temple, and let us close the doors of the temple, for they are coming to slay thee, yea, by night, are they coming to slay thee.
11 কিন্তু আমি বললাম, “আমার মতো লোকের কি পালিয়ে যাওয়া উচিত? কিংবা আমার মতো কারো কি তার প্রাণরক্ষা করার জন্য মন্দিরের মধ্যে যাওয়া উচিত? আমি যাব না!”
Then said I, Should, such a man as I, flee? Who then, being such as I, would enter the temple to save his life? I will not enter.
12 আমি বুঝতে পারলাম যে ঈশ্বর তাকে পাঠাননি, কিন্তু সে আমার বিরুদ্ধে ভাবোক্তি বলেছে যেহেতু টোবিয় ও সন্বল্লট তাকে ভাড়া করেছে।
Then perceived I, that lo! it was, not God, who had sent him, —though, a prophecy, he had spoken concerning me, but, Tobiah and Sanballat, had hired him:
13 তাকে ভাড়া করা হয়েছিল যেন ভয়ে এই কাজ করে আমি পাপ করি, এবং তারা যেন আমার দুর্নাম করার সুযোগ পেয়ে আমাকে টিট্কারি দিতে পারে।
to this end, hired, he was, to the end that I might be afraid and do so, and might sin, —and it might serve them for an evil report, to the end they might bring reproach upon me.
14 হে আমার ঈশ্বর, টোবিয় ও সন্বল্লট যা করেছে তা স্মরণ করো: ভাববাদিনী নোয়দিয়া ও অন্য যে ভাববাদীরা আমাকে ভয় দেখাবার চেষ্টা করছিল তাদেরকেও স্মরণ করো।
Have remembrance, O my God, of Tobiah and of Sanballat, according to these their doings, —moreover also, of Noadiah the prophetess, and of the rest of the prophets, who would have put me in fear.
15 ইলূল মাসের পঁচিশ তারিখে, বাহান্নতম দিন, প্রাচীর গাঁথা শেষ হল।
So the wall was finished, on the twenty-fifth of Elul, —in fifty-two days.
16 আমাদের সব শত্রুরা যখন এই কথা শুনল আর নিকটবর্তী সব জাতিরা তা দেখল তখন তারা ভয় পেল এবং আত্মবিশ্বাস হারাল, কারণ তারা বুঝতে পেরেছিল যে, এই কাজ আমাদের ঈশ্বরের সাহায্যেই করা হয়েছে।
And it came to pass, when all our enemies heard, and all the nations that were round about us saw, that they fell greatly in their own eyes, and took knowledge that, from God, had this work been wrought.
17 আবার, সেই সময় যিহূদার গণ্যমান্য লোকেরা টোবিয়ের কাছে অনেক চিঠিপত্র পাঠাতেন এবং টোবিয়ের কাছ থেকে তারা উত্তরও পেতেন।
Moreover, in those days, were the nobles of Judah busy with their letters which were going unto Tobiah, —and those of Tobiah were coming unto them;
18 কারণ যিহূদার অনেকে তার কাছে শপথ করেছিল, কারণ সে আরহের ছেলে শখনিয়ের জামাই ছিল, এবং তার ছেলে যিহোহানন বেরিখিয়ের ছেলে মশুল্লমের মেয়েকে বিয়ে করছিল।
for, many in Judah, had taken an oath to him, because he was in marriage affinity with Shecaniah son of Arah, —and, Jehohanan his son, had taken the daughter of Meshullam, son of Berechiah.
19 এছাড়া, তারা টোবিয়ের ভালো কাজের কথা আমাকে জানাত এবং আমি যা বলতাম তারা তাকে জানাত। এবং আমাকে ভয় দেখানোর জন্য টোবিয় চিঠি পাঠাত।
Moreover, his good deeds, were they telling before me, and, my affairs, were they carrying out to him, —letters, did Tobiah send to put me in fear.
