মথি 14
1 সেই সময়ে শাসনকর্তা হেরোদ যীশুর সম্মন্ধে শুনে
At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus;
2 তাঁর পরিচারকদের বললেন, “ইনি সেই বাপ্তিষ্মদাতা যোহন, যিনি মৃত্যু থেকে বেঁচে উঠেছেন! সেই কারণে এইসব অলৌকিক ক্ষমতা তাঁর মধ্যে রয়েছে।”
and he said to his servants: This is John The Immerser; he has risen from the dead; and for this reason the powers of the spiritual world are active within him.
3 কারণ হেরোদ, তাঁর ভাই ফিলিপের স্ত্রী হেরোদিয়ার জন্য যোহনকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছিলেন ও তাঁকে কারাগারে বন্দি করেছিলেন।
For Herod had laid hold of John, and bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip.
4 কারণ যোহন তাঁকে ক্রমাগত বলতেন, “আপনার পক্ষে হেরোদিয়াকে রাখা ন্যায়সংগত নয়।”
For John said to him: It is not lawful for you to have her.
5 হেরোদ যোহনকে হত্যা করতে চেয়েছিলেন, কিন্তু তিনি লোকদের ভয় পেতেন কারণ তারা তাকে ভাববাদী বলে মনে করত।
And he intended to put him to death, but feared the multitude, because they regarded him as a prophet.
6 হেরোদের জন্মদিনে হেরোদিয়ার মেয়ে সকলের জন্য নৃত্য করে হেরোদকে এমন সন্তুষ্ট করল যে,
But when Herod’s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod.
7 তিনি শপথ করে বললেন সেই মেয়ে যা চাইবে, তাই তিনি তাকে দেবেন।
Wherefore he promised, with an oath, to give her whatever she would ask.
8 তার মায়ের প্ররোচনায়, সে তখন বলল, “বাপ্তিষ্মদাতা যোহনের মাথা আমাকে থালায় করে এনে দিন।”
And being previously instigated by her mother, she said: Give me here in a dish the head of John the Immerser?
9 এতে রাজা হেরোদ মর্মাহত হলেন, কিন্তু তাঁর নিজের শপথের জন্য ও যাঁরা তাঁর সঙ্গে ভোজসভায় বসেছিলেন তাঁদের জন্য তিনি তাঁর অনুরোধ রক্ষার আদেশ দিলেন।
And the king was grieved: but on account of his oath, and those who reclined at table with him, he commanded it to be given.
10 তিনি কারাগারে লোক পাঠিয়ে যোহনের মাথা কাটালেন।
And he sent and beheaded John in the prison.
11 তাঁর মাথা একটি থালায় করে এনে সেই মেয়েকে দেওয়া হল। সে তার মায়ের কাছে তা নিয়ে গেল।
And his head was brought in a dish, and given to the maiden: and she carried it to her mother.
12 পরে যোহনের শিষ্যেরা এসে তাঁর শরীর নিয়ে গেল ও কবর দিল। তারপর তারা গিয়ে যীশুকে সেই সংবাদ দিল।
And his disciples came and took away the body, and buried it; and went and told Jesus.
13 সেই ঘটনার সংবাদ শুনে যীশু নৌকায় একান্তে এক নির্জন স্থানে গেলেন। একথা শুনতে পেয়ে অনেক লোক বিভিন্ন নগর থেকে পায়ে হেঁটে তাঁকে অনুসরণ করল।
And when Jesus heard of it, he withdrew from that place, by ship, into a desert place apart: and the multitudes, when they heard of his departure, followed him, on foot, from the cities.
14 তীরে নেমে যীশু যখন অনেক লোককে দেখতে পেলেন, তিনি তাদের প্রতি করুণায় পূর্ণ হলেন ও তাদের মধ্যে অসুস্থ লোকদের সুস্থ করলেন।
And when Jesus came out, he saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion for them, and cured their sick.
15 সন্ধ্যা ঘনিয়ে এলে, শিষ্যেরা তাঁর কাছে এসে বললেন, “এ এক নির্জন স্থান, আর ইতিমধ্যে অনেক দেরি হয়ে গেছে। আপনি সবাইকে বিদায় দিন, যেন তারা বিভিন্ন গ্রামে গিয়ে নিজেদের জন্য কিছু খাবার কিনতে পারে।”
And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, and said: This is a desert place, and the hour is now past; send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.
16 যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “ওদের যাওয়ার প্রয়োজন নেই। তোমরাই ওদের কিছু খেতে দাও।”
But Jesus said to them: They need not go away; do you give them food.
17 তারা উত্তর দিলেন, “এখানে আমাদের কাছে কেবলমাত্র পাঁচটি রুটি ও দুটি মাছ আছে।”
They said to him: We have here but five loaves and two fishes.
18 তিনি বললেন, “ওগুলি আমার কাছে নিয়ে এসো।”
He said: Bring them hither to me.
19 আর তিনি লোকদের ঘাসের উপরে বসার জন্য নির্দেশ দিলেন। সেই পাঁচটি রুটি ও দুটি মাছ নিয়ে যীশু স্বর্গের দিকে তাকিয়ে ধন্যবাদ দিলেন ও রুটিগুলিকে ভাঙলেন। তারপর তিনি সেগুলি শিষ্যদের দিলেন ও শিষ্যেরা লোকদের দিলেন।
And he commanded the multitudes to recline upon the grass: and he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looked up to heaven, and blessed, and broke, and gave the bread to the disciples, and the disciples gave it to the multitudes.
20 তারা সকলে খেয়ে পরিতৃপ্ত হল। আর শিষ্যেরা অবশিষ্ট রুটির টুকরো সংগ্রহ করে বারো ঝুড়ি পূর্ণ করলেন।
And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up what remained of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full.
21 যারা খাবার খেয়েছিল, তাদের সংখ্যা ছিল নারী ও শিশু বাদ দিয়ে প্রায় পাঁচ হাজার পুরুষ।
And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
22 পর মুহূর্তেই যীশু শিষ্যদের নৌকায় তুলে দিয়ে তাঁর যাওয়ার আগেই সাগরের অপর পারে তাঁদের চলে যেতে বললেন, ইতিমধ্যে তিনি সকলকে বিদায় দিলেন।
And he immediately constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and go before him to the opposite side, while he sent the multitudes away.
23 তাদের বিদায় করার পর তিনি একা প্রার্থনা করার জন্য এক পর্বতের উপরে উঠলেন। সন্ধ্যা ঘনিয়ে এলে তিনি সেখানে একাই ছিলেন।
And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain apart to pray. And when evening came, he was there alone.
24 কিন্তু নৌকাখানি তখন তীর থেকে বেশ খানিকটা দূরে চলে গিয়েছিল। বাতাস প্রতিকূলে বইছিল তাই নৌকা ঢেউয়ে টলোমলো করছিল।
But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was against them.
25 রাত্রির চতুর্থ প্রহরে যীশু সাগরের উপর দিয়ে পায়ে হেঁটে শিষ্যদের কাছে গেলেন।
And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea.
26 শিষ্যেরা তাঁকে সাগরের উপর দিয়ে হেঁটে যেতে দেখে ভীষণ ভয় পেলেন। তাঁরা বললেন, “এ এক ভূত!” আর তাঁরা ভয়ে চিৎকার করে উঠলেন।
And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were alarmed, and said: It is a specter! and they cried out for fear.
27 কিন্তু যীশু তক্ষুনি তাঁদের বললেন, “সাহস করো! এ আমি। ভয় পেয়ো না।”
But Jesus immediately spoke to them, and said: Take courage; it is I; be not afraid.
28 পিতর উত্তর দিলেন, “প্রভু, যদি আপনিই হন, তাহলে আমাকেও জলের উপর দিয়ে আপনার কাছে হেঁটে আসতে বলুন।”
And Peter answered him, and said: Lord, if it be thou, bid me come to thee on the water.
29 তিনি বললেন, “এসো।” তখন পিতর নৌকা থেকে নেমে জলের উপর দিয়ে হেঁটে যীশুর দিকে চললেন।
And he said: Come. And Peter went down from the ship, and walked upon the water to go to Jesus.
30 কিন্তু যখন তিনি বাতাসের দিকে দৃষ্টি দিলেন, তিনি ভয় পেলেন ও ডুবতে লাগলেন। তিনি চিৎকার করে বললেন, “প্রভু, আমাকে রক্ষা করুন!”
But when he saw the wind strong, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying: Lord, save me.
31 সঙ্গে সঙ্গে যীশু তাঁর হাত বাড়িয়ে তাঁকে ধরে ফেললেন ও বললেন, “অল্পবিশ্বাসী তুমি, কেন তুমি সন্দেহ করলে?”
And Jesus immediately stretched out his hand, and took hold of him, and said to him: O you of little faith, why did you doubt?
32 আর তাঁরা যখন নৌকায় উঠলেন তখন বাতাস থেমে গেল।
And when they had entered the ship, the wind ceased.
33 তখন যাঁরা নৌকায় ছিলেন, তাঁরা তাঁকে প্রণাম করলেন, বললেন, “সত্যি, আপনিই ঈশ্বরের পুত্র।”
And they that were in the ship came and worshiped him, saying: Truly, thou art the Son of God.
34 তাঁরা সাগরের অপর পারে গিয়ে গিনেষরৎ প্রদেশে নৌকা থেকে নামলেন।
And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.
35 সেখানকার লোকেরা যখন তাঁকে চিনতে পারল তারা চতুর্দিকে খবর পাঠাল। লোকেরা সব অসুস্থ ব্যক্তিদের তাঁর কাছে নিয়ে এল,
And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all the neighboring country, and brought to him all that were sick;
36 আর তাঁর কাছে মিনতি করল, যেন অসুস্থরা কেবলমাত্র তাঁর পোশাকের আঁচলটুকু স্পর্শ করতে পারে। আর যারাই তাঁকে স্পর্শ করল তারা সকলে সুস্থ হল।
and besought him that they might only touch the fringe of his mantle; and as many as touched were perfectly saved.
