1 যা কিছু ঘটে গেছে, আমাদের মধ্যে অনেকেই তার একটি বিবরণ দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করেছেন।
As you know, many others have attempted to put down in writing the things that have been fulfilled that involve us.
2 যাঁরা প্রথম থেকেই সবকিছু চাক্ষুষ দেখেছেন ও বাক্যের পরিচর্যা করেছেন, তাঁরাই সে সমস্ত আমাদের কাছে সমর্পণ করেছেন।
They based their accounts on evidence from the earliest eyewitnesses and ministers of the Word,
3 মহামান্য থিয়ফিল, সেইজন্য আমি প্রথম থেকে সবকিছু সযত্নে অনুসন্ধান করে আপনার জন্য একটি সুবিন্যস্ত বিবরণ রচনা করা সংগত বিবেচনা করলাম,
and so I also decided that since I have followed these things very carefully from the beginning, it would be a good idea to write out an accurate account of all that happened.

I have done this dear Theophilus so you can be certain that what you were taught is completely reliable.
5 যিহূদিয়ার রাজা হেরোদের রাজত্বকালে সখরিয় নামে একজন যাজক ছিলেন। তিনি ছিলেন অবিয়ের পুরোহিত অধীনস্থ যাজক-সম্প্রদায়ভুক্ত। তাঁর স্ত্রী ইলিশাবেতও ছিলেন হারোণ বংশীয়।
During the time when Herod was king of Judea, there was a priest called Zechariah, who came from the Abijah priestly division. He was married to Elizabeth, who was also descended from Aaron the priest.
6 তাঁরা উভয়েই ছিলেন ঈশ্বরের দৃষ্টিতে ধার্মিক। তাঁরা প্রভুর সমস্ত আজ্ঞা ও বিধিনিয়ম নির্দোষরূপে পালন করতেন।
They both did what was right before God, being careful to follow all the Lord's commandments and regulations.
7 কিন্তু তাঁরা ছিলেন নিঃসন্তান, কারণ ইলিশাবেত বন্ধ্যা ছিলেন এবং তাঁদের দুজনেরই বেশ বয়স হয়েছিল।
They had no children because Elizabeth wasn't able to have any, and they were both growing old.
8 একদিন সখরিয়ের দলের পালা ছিল এবং তিনি ঈশ্বরের সামনে যাজকীয় পরিচর্যা করছিলেন।
While Zechariah was serving as a priest before God, on behalf of his priestly division,
9 যাজকীয় কাজের রীতি অনুসারে, প্রভুর মন্দিরে গিয়ে ধূপ জ্বালাবার জন্য তিনিই গুটিকাপাতের দ্বারা মনোনীত হয়েছিলেন।
he was chosen by lot according to priestly custom to enter the Temple of the Lord and burn incense.
10 সেই ধূপ জ্বালাবার সময় যখন উপস্থিত হল, সমবেত উপাসকেরা তখন বাইরে প্রার্থনা করছিলেন।
During the time of offering incense a large crowd of people were praying outside.
11 সেই সময় প্রভুর এক দূত ধূপ জ্বালাবার বেদির ডানদিকে দাঁড়িয়ে তাঁর কাছে আবির্ভূত হলেন।
An angel of the Lord appeared to Zechariah, standing to the right of the altar of incense.
12 তাঁকে দেখে সখরিয় বিস্ময়ে বিহ্বল ও ভীত হলেন।
When Zechariah saw the angel, he was startled and became terrified.
13 কিন্তু দূত তাঁকে বললেন, “সখরিয়, ভয় পেয়ো না, ঈশ্বর তোমার প্রার্থনা শুনেছেন। তোমার স্ত্রী ইলিশাবেত তোমার জন্য এক পুত্রসন্তানের জন্ম দেবেন। তুমি তার নাম রাখবে, যোহন।
But the angel told him, “Don't be afraid, Zechariah. Your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call him John.
14 সে তোমার আনন্দ ও উল্লাসের কারণ হবে এবং তার জন্মে অনেক মানুষ উল্লসিত হবে,
He will bring you joy and gladness, and many will celebrate his birth.
15 কারণ প্রভুর দৃষ্টিতে সে হবে মহান। সে কখনও দ্রাক্ষারস, বা অন্য কোনো উত্তেজক পানীয় গ্রহণ করবে না এবং জন্মমুহূর্ত থেকেই সে পবিত্র আত্মায় পূর্ণ হবে।
He will be great in the sight of the Lord. He will refuse to drink wine or other alcoholic drink. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he's born.
16 ইস্রায়েলের বহু মানুষকে সে তাদের প্রভু ঈশ্বরের কাছে ফিরিয়ে আনবে।
He will turn many Israelites back to the Lord their God.
17 ভাববাদী এলিয়ের আত্মা ও পরাক্রমে সে প্রভুর অগ্রগামী হবে; সকল পিতৃহৃদয়কে তাদের সন্তানের দিকে ফিরিয়ে আনবে, অবাধ্যদের ধার্মিকদের প্রজ্ঞাপথে নিয়ে আসবে—প্রভুর জন্য এক প্রজাসমাজকে প্রস্তুত করে তুলবে।”
He will go ahead of the Lord in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the fathers back to thinking about their children, and to turn those who are rebellious back to a right understanding—to prepare a people ready for the Lord.”
18 সখরিয় দূতকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আমি কী করে এ বিষয়ে সুনিশ্চিত হব? কারণ আমি বৃদ্ধ, আমার স্ত্রীরও অনেক বয়স হয়েছে।”
“How can I be sure about this?” Zechariah asked the angel. “I'm an old man, and my wife is getting old too.”
19 দূত উত্তর দিলেন, “আমি গ্যাব্রিয়েল, ঈশ্বরের সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকি। এই শুভবার্তা ব্যক্ত করার জন্য ও তোমার সঙ্গে কথা বলার জন্য আমাকে তোমার কাছে পাঠানো হয়েছে।
“I am Gabriel,” the angel replied. “I stand in God's presence, and I was sent to speak to you and give you this good news.
20 কিন্তু তুমি আমার কথা বিশ্বাস করলে না, যদিও সেকথা যথাসময়ে সত্য হয়ে উঠবে। এজন্য তুমি বোবা হয়ে যাবে এবং যতদিন না এই ঘটনা ঘটে, তুমি কথা বলতে পারবে না।”
But since you didn't believe what I told you, you'll become dumb, unable to speak, until the appointed time when my words come true.”
21 এদিকে সখরিয়ের জন্য অপেক্ষায় লোকেরা অবাক হয়ে ভাবছিল, তিনি মন্দিরে কেন এত দেরি করছেন।
Outside the people were waiting for Zechariah, wondering why he was taking so long in the Temple.
22 বাইরে বেরিয়ে এসে তিনি তাদের সঙ্গে কোনো কথা বলতে পারলেন না। তারা উপলব্ধি করল, তিনি মন্দিরে কোনো দর্শন লাভ করেছেন, কারণ তিনি ক্রমাগত ইঙ্গিতে তাদের বোঝাচ্ছিলেন, কিন্তু কথা বলতে পারছিলেন না।
When eventually he came out, he wasn't able to speak to them. They realized he'd seen a vision in the Temple, for though he could make gestures, he was completely dumb.
23 তাঁর পরিচর্যার কাজ সম্পূর্ণ হলে তিনি ঘরে ফিরে গেলেন।
After he'd finished his time of service, he went back home.
24 এরপরে তাঁর স্ত্রী ইলিশাবেত অন্তঃসত্ত্বা হলেন এবং পাঁচ মাস গোপনে অবস্থান করলেন।
Some time later his wife Elizabeth became pregnant. She stayed at home for five months.
25 তিনি বললেন, “প্রভু আমার জন্য এ কাজ করেছেন। এই সময়ে তিনি আমার প্রতি করুণা প্রদর্শন করেছেন, লোকসমাজ থেকে আমার অপবাদ দূর করেছেন।”
“The Lord has done this for me,” she said, “now that he's taken away my disgrace in the eyes of others.”
26 ছয় মাস পরে ঈশ্বর তাঁর দূত গ্যাব্রিয়েলকে গালীল প্রদেশের নাসরৎ-নগরে এক কুমারীর কাছে পাঠালেন।
In the sixth month of her pregnancy God sent the angel Gabriel to a young girl called Mary who lived in the town of Nazareth in Galilee.
27 তিনি দাউদ বংশের যোষেফ নামে এক ব্যক্তির সঙ্গে বাগদত্তা হয়েছিলেন। সেই কুমারী কন্যার নাম ছিল মরিয়ম।
She was engaged to a man named Joseph.
28 দূত তাঁর কাছে গিয়ে বললেন, “মহান অনুগ্রহের অধিকারিণী, তোমাকে অভিনন্দন! প্রভু তোমার সঙ্গে আছেন।”
The angel greeted her. “You are very privileged,” he told her. “The Lord is with you.”
29 তাঁর কথা শুনে মরিয়ম অত্যন্ত বিচলিত হলেন এবং অবাক হয়ে ভাবলেন, এ কী ধরনের অভিবাদন হতে পারে!
Mary was very puzzled at what he said, and wondered what this greeting meant.
30 কিন্তু দূত তাঁকে বললেন, “মরিয়ম, ভয় পেয়ো না। তুমি ঈশ্বরের অনুগ্রহ লাভ করেছ।
“Don't worry, Mary,” the angel went on, “for God has shown his graciousness to you.
31 তুমি অন্তঃসত্ত্বা হয়ে এক পুত্রের জন্ম দেবে, আর তুমি তাঁর নাম রাখবে যীশু।
You will become pregnant and give birth to a son. You shall call him Jesus.
32 তিনি মহান হবেন ও পরাৎপরের পুত্র নামে আখ্যাত হবেন। প্রভু ঈশ্বর তাঁর পিতা দাউদের সিংহাসন তাঁকে দেবেন
He will be very great, and he will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever. His kingdom will never come to an end.” (aiōn g165)
34 মরিয়ম দূতকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তা কী করে হবে? আমি যে কুমারী!”
“How is this possible?” Mary asked. “I'm still a virgin.”
35 উত্তর দিয়ে দূত তাঁকে বললেন, “পবিত্র আত্মা তোমার উপরে অবতরণ করবেন ও পরাৎপরের শক্তি তোমাকে আবৃত করবে। তাই যে পবিত্র পুরুষ জন্মগ্রহণ করবেন, তিনি ঈশ্বরের পুত্র বলে আখ্যাত হবেন।
He replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will cover you. The baby who is to be born is holy, and will be called the Son of God.
36 আর তোমার আত্মীয় ইলিশাবেতও বৃদ্ধ বয়সে সন্তানের মা হতে চলেছেন। যাকে সকলে বন্ধ্যা বলে জানত, এখন তাঁর ছয় মাস চলছে।
And Elizabeth, your relative, even she is pregnant in her old age. The woman that people said couldn't have children is already six months pregnant.
37 কারণ ঈশ্বর যা বলেন তা সবসময় সত্যি হয়।”
Nothing is impossible for God.”
38 মরিয়ম উত্তর দিলেন, “আমি প্রভুর দাসী। আপনি যে রকম বললেন, আমার প্রতি সেরকমই হোক।” এরপর দূত তাঁকে ছেড়ে চলে গেলেন।
“Here I am, ready to be the Lord's servant,” said Mary. “May it happen to me just as you said.” Then the angel left her.
39 তখন মরিয়ম যিহূদিয়ার পার্বত্য অঞ্চলের এক নগরের দিকে দ্রুত বেরিয়ে পড়লেন।
A little while later, Mary got herself ready and hurried up into the hills of Judea, to the town where
40 সেখানে এসে তিনি সখরিয়ের বাড়িতে প্রবেশ করে ইলিশাবেতকে অভিনন্দন জানালেন।
Zechariah's house was. She called out to Elizabeth as she went in.
41 ইলিশাবেত যখন মরিয়মের অভিনন্দন শুনলেন, তাঁর গর্ভে শিশুটি লাফ দিয়ে উঠল এবং ইলিশাবেত পবিত্র আত্মায় পূর্ণ হলেন।
As soon as Elizabeth heard Mary's voice, the baby jumped for joy inside her. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit,
42 উচ্ছ্বসিত স্বরে তিনি বলে উঠলেন, “নারীকুলে তুমি ধন্য, আর যে শিশুকে তুমি গর্ভে ধারণ করবে, সেও ধন্য।
and cried out in a loud voice, “How blessed you are among women, and how blessed will be the child born to you!
43 আর আমার প্রতিই বা এত অনুগ্রহের কারণ কী যে, আমার প্রভুর মা আমার কাছে এসেছেন?
Why am I so honored that the mother of my Lord should visit me?
44 তোমার অভিনন্দন আমার কানে প্রবেশ করা মাত্র, আমার গর্ভের শিশুটি আনন্দে নেচে উঠল।
As soon as I heard you call out in greeting, my baby jumped for joy inside me.
45 ধন্য সেই নারী, যে বিশ্বাস করেছে, প্রভুর প্রতিশ্রুতি তাঁর জীবনে সার্থক হয়ে উঠবে।”
How fortunate you are, because you are convinced that the Lord will do what he has promised you!”
46 তখন মরিয়ম বললেন, “আমার প্রাণ প্রভুর মহিমাকীর্তন করে,
Mary replied, “How I praise the Lord!
47 আমার পরিত্রাতা ঈশ্বরে আমার আত্মা উল্লাস করে।
I am so happy with God my Savior,
48 কারণ তিনি তাঁর এই দীনদরিদ্র দাসীর প্রতি দৃষ্টিপাত করেছেন। এখন থেকে পুরুষ-পরম্পরা আমাকে ধন্য বলে অভিহিত করবে।
because he decided that I, his servant, was worthy of his consideration, despite my humble background. From now on every generation will say I was blessed.
49 কারণ যিনি পরাক্রমী, যিনি আমার জন্য কত মহৎ কাজ সাধন করেছেন— তাঁর নাম পবিত্র।
God Almighty has done great things for me; his name is holy.
50 যারা তাঁকে ভয় করে, তাদেরই জন্য পুরুষ-পরম্পরায় তাঁর করুণার হাত প্রসারিত।
His mercy lasts for generation after generation to those who respect him.
51 তাঁর বাহু সব পরাক্রম কাজ সাধন করেছে; যারা অন্তরের গভীরতম ভাবনায় গর্বিত, তিনি তাদের ছত্রভঙ্গ করেছেন।
With his power he has broken to pieces those who arrogantly think they're so clever.
52 শাসকদের তিনি সিংহাসনচ্যূত করেছেন, কিন্তু বিনম্রদের উন্নত করেছেন।
He tears the powerful down from their thrones, and elevates those who are humble.
53 তিনি উত্তম দ্রব্যে ক্ষুধার্তদের তৃপ্ত করেছেন, কিন্তু ধনীদের রিক্ত হাতে বিদায় করেছেন।
He fills the hungry with good things to eat, and he sends the rich away empty-handed.
54 আপন করুণার কথা স্মরণ করে, তিনি তাঁর সেবক ইস্রায়েলকে সহায়তা দান করেছেন।
He has helped his servant Israel, remembering him in mercy,
55 যেমন আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের কাছে বলেছিলেন, অব্রাহাম ও তাঁর বংশধরদের প্রতি চিরতরে করুণা প্রদান করেছেন।” (aiōn g165)
just as he promised our fathers, to Abraham and his descendants for ever.” (aiōn g165)
56 মরিয়ম প্রায় তিন মাস ইলিশাবেতের কাছে রইলেন, তারপর তিনি বাড়িতে ফিরে এলেন।
Mary stayed with her for three months and then returned home.
57 প্রসবের সময় পূর্ণ হলে, ইলিশাবেত এক পুত্রসন্তানের জন্ম দিলেন।
The time came for Elizabeth to have her baby and she gave birth to a son.
58 তাঁর প্রতিবেশী এবং আত্মীয়পরিজনেরা শুনল যে, প্রভু তাঁর প্রতি মহৎ করুণা প্রদর্শন করেছেন, আর তারাও তাঁর আনন্দের অংশীদার হল।
Her neighbors and relatives heard how the Lord had showed her great kindness, and they celebrated together with her.
59 অষ্টম দিনে তারা শিশুটিকে সুন্নত করার জন্য এসে তার পিতার নাম অনুসারে শিশুটির নাম সখরিয় রাখতে চাইল।
Eight days later they came to circumcise the boy. They planned to call him Zechariah after his father.
60 কিন্তু তার মা বলে উঠলেন, “না, ওর নাম হবে যোহন।”
“No,” Elizabeth said. “He shall be called John.”
61 তারা তাঁকে বলল, “কেন? আপনার আত্মীয়স্বজনদের মধ্যে কারও তো এই নাম নেই!”
“But there's nobody among your relatives who has this name,” they told her.
62 তখন তারা তার পিতার কাছে ইশারায় জানতে চাইল, তিনি শিশুটির কী নাম রাখতে চান।
Through gestures they asked Zechariah, the boy's father, what he wanted to call his son.
63 তিনি একটি লিপিফলক চেয়ে নিলেন এবং সবাইকে অবাক করে দিয়ে লিখলেন, “ওর নাম যোহন।”
Zechariah motioned for something to write on. To everyone's surprise he wrote, “His name is John.”
64 সঙ্গে সঙ্গে তাঁর মুখ খুলে গেল, জিভের জড়তা চলে গেল, আর তিনি কথা বলতে লাগলেন ও ঈশ্বরের প্রশংসায় মুখর হলেন।
Immediately he could speak again, and he started praising God.
65 প্রতিবেশীরা সবাই ভীত হল এবং যিহূদিয়ার সমস্ত পার্বত্য অঞ্চলের লোকেরা এসব বিষয় নিয়ে আলোচনা করতে লাগল।
All those living nearby were in awe at what had happened, and the news spread throughout the hill country of Judea.
66 যারা শুনল, তারা প্রত্যেকেই বিস্মিত হয়ে বলাবলি করল, “এই শিশুটি তাহলে ভবিষ্যতে কী হবে?” কারণ প্রভুর হাত ছিল তার সহায়।
Everyone who heard the news wondered what it meant. “What will the little boy grow up to be?” they asked, for it was clear he was very special to God.
67 তখন তার পিতা সখরিয় পবিত্র আত্মায় পরিপূর্ণ হয়ে ভাববাণী করলেন। তিনি বললেন:
Zechariah, his father, filled with the Holy Spirit, spoke this prophecy:
68 “প্রভু, ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বরের নাম প্রশংসিত হোক, কারণ তিনি এসে তাঁর প্রজাদের মুক্ত করেছেন।
“The Lord, the God of Israel, he is wonderful, for he has come to his people and set them free.
69 তিনি তাঁর দাস দাউদের বংশে আমাদের জন্য এক ত্রাণশৃঙ্গ তুলে ধরেছেন,
He has given us a great Savior from the line of his servant David,
as he promised through his holy prophets long ago. (aiōn g165)
71 যেন আমরা আমাদের সব শত্রুর কবল থেকে উদ্ধার পাই, যারা আমাদের ঘৃণা করে, তাদের হাত থেকে রক্ষা পাই,
He promised to save us from our enemies, from those who hate us.
72 আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের প্রতি করুণা প্রদর্শন এবং তাঁর পবিত্র নিয়ম স্মরণ করার জন্য,
He was merciful to our fathers, remembering his holy agreement—
73 আমাদের পিতা অব্রাহামের কাছে তিনি যা শপথ করেছিলেন:
the promise that he made to our father Abraham.
74 তিনি আমাদের সব শত্রুর হাত থেকে আমাদের নিস্তার করবেন, যেন নির্ভয়ে তাঁর সেবা করতে আমাদের সক্ষম করেন,
He gives us freedom from fear and rescues us from our enemies,
75 যেন তাঁর সামনে পবিত্রতায় ও ধার্মিকতায় আমরা তাঁর সেবা করে যাই।
so we can serve him by doing what is good and right for our whole lives.
76 “আর তুমি, আমার শিশুসন্তান, তুমি পরাৎপরের ভাববাদী বলে আখ্যাত হবে, কারণ প্রভুর পথ প্রস্তুতির জন্য তুমি তাঁর অগ্রগামী হবে;
Even though you are only a small child, you will be called the prophet of the Most High, for you will go ahead of the Lord to prepare his way,
77 তাঁর প্রজাবৃন্দকে, তাদের পাপসমূহ ক্ষমার মাধ্যমে পরিত্রাণের জ্ঞান দেওয়ার জন্য।
providing knowledge of salvation to his people through the forgiveness of their sins.
78 আমাদের ঈশ্বরের স্নেহময় করুণার গুণে, স্বর্গ থেকে আমাদের মাঝে স্বর্গীয় জ্যোতির উদয় হবে।
Through God's caring kindness to us, heaven's dawn will break upon us
79 যারা অন্ধকারে, মৃত্যুচ্ছায়ায় বসবাস করছে, তাদের উপর আলো বিকীর্ণ করতে, আমাদের পা শান্তির পথে চালিত করতে।”
to shine on those who live in darkness and under the shadow of death, and to guide us along the path of peace.”
80 আর বয়স বৃদ্ধির সঙ্গে সঙ্গে সেই শিশু আত্মাতে বলীয়ান হয়ে উঠলেন এবং ইস্রায়েলের জনসমক্ষে আত্মপ্রকাশ না করা পর্যন্ত, তিনি মরুপ্রান্তরে বসবাস করলেন।
The boy John grew and became spiritually strong. He lived in the desert until the time came for his public ministry to Israel.
