লুক 9
1 যীশু সেই বারোজনকে আহ্বান করে মন্দ-আত্মা তাড়ানোর এবং রোগনিরাময় করার ক্ষমতা ও অধিকার তাদের দিলেন।
Then calling the Twelve together He conferred on them power and authority over all the demons and to cure diseases;
2 তিনি ঈশ্বরের রাজ্যের বিষয়ে প্রচার ও পীড়িতদের আরোগ্য দান করার জন্য তাঁদের পাঠালেন।
and sent them out to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to cure the sick.
3 তিনি তাঁদের বললেন, “যাত্রার উদ্দেশে তোমরা সঙ্গে কিছুই নিয়ো না; ছড়ি, থলি, কোনো খাবার, টাকাপয়সা, অতিরিক্ত পোশাক, কোনো কিছুই না।
And He commanded them, "Take nothing for your journey; neither stick nor bag nor bread nor money; and do not have an extra under garment.
4 যে বাড়িতে তোমরা প্রবেশ করবে, সেই নগর পরিত্যাগ না করা পর্যন্ত তোমরা সেখানেই থেকো।
Whatever house you enter, make that your home, and from it start afresh.
5 লোকে তোমাদের স্বাগত না জানালে, তাদের বিরুদ্ধে প্রমাণস্বরূপ, তাদের নগর পরিত্যাগ করার সময় তোমাদের পায়ের ধুলো ঝেড়ে ফেলো।”
Wherever they refuse to receive you, as you leave that town shake off the very dust from your feet as a protest against them."
6 সেইমতো তাঁরা যাত্রা করলেন এবং গ্রাম থেকে গ্রামান্তরে ঘুরে সুসমাচার প্রচার করলেন, সর্বত্র লোকদের রোগনিরাময় করলেন।
So they departed and visited village after village, spreading the Good News and performing cures everywhere.
7 সামন্তরাজ হেরোদ এসব ঘটনার কথা শুনতে পেলেন। তিনি খুব বিচলিত হয়ে পড়লেন, কারণ কেউ কেউ বলছিল যে, যোহন মৃত্যুলোক থেকে উত্থিত হয়েছেন।
Now Herod the Tetrarch heard of all that was going on; and he was bewildered because of its being said by some that John had come back to life,
8 অন্যেরা বলছিল, এলিয় আবির্ভূত হয়েছেন; আবার কেউ কেউ বলছিল, প্রাচীনকালের কোনো ভাববাদী পুনর্জীবিত হয়েছেন।
by others that Elijah had appeared, and by others that some one of the ancient Prophets had come back to life.
9 কিন্তু হেরোদ বললেন, “আমিই তো যোহনের মাথা কেটেছিলাম, তাহলে কে এই ব্যক্তি, যাঁর সম্পর্কে আমি এত কথা শুনছি?” তিনি যীশুকে দেখার চেষ্টা করতে লাগলেন।
And Herod said, "John I have beheaded; but who is this, of whom I hear such reports?" And he sought for an opportunity of seeing Jesus.
10 প্রেরিতশিষ্যেরা ফিরে এসে যীশুকে তাঁদের কাজের বিবরণ দিলেন। তিনি তখন তাঁদের সঙ্গে নিয়ে বেথসৈদা নগরের দিকে একান্তে যাত্রা করলেন।
The Apostles, on their return, related to Jesus all they had done. Then He took them and withdrew to a quiet retreat, to a town called Bethsaida.
11 কিন্তু লোকেরা সেকথা জানতে পেরে তাঁকে অনুসরণ করল। তিনি তাদের স্বাগত জানিয়ে ঈশ্বরের রাজ্যের বিষয়ে কথা বললেন এবং যাদের সুস্থতা লাভের প্রয়োজন ছিল, তাদের সুস্থ করলেন।
But the immense crowd, aware of this, followed Him; and receiving them kindly He proceeded to speak to them of the Kingdom of God, and those who needed to be restored to health, He cured.
12 পড়ন্ত বিকেলে সেই বারোজন তাঁর কাছে এসে বললেন, “লোকদের চলে যেতে বলুন, তারা যেন চারদিকের গ্রামে এবং পল্লিতে গিয়ে খাবার ও রাত্রিবাসের সন্ধান করতে পারে, কারণ আমরা এখানে এক প্রত্যন্ত স্থানে আছি।”
Now when the day began to decline, the Twelve came to Him and said, "Send the people away, that they may go to the villages and farms round about and find lodging and a supply of food; because here we are in an uninhabited district."
13 তিনি উত্তর দিলেন, “তোমরাই ওদের কিছু খেতে দাও।” তাঁরা বললেন, “আমাদের কাছে কেবলমাত্র পাঁচটি রুটি ও দুটি মাছ আছে—সব লোককে খাওয়াতে হলে আমাদের গিয়ে খাবার কিনতে হবে।”
"You yourselves," He said, "must give them food." "We have nothing," they replied, "but five loaves and a couple of fish, unless indeed we were to go and buy provisions for all this host of people."
14 (সেখানে প্রায় পাঁচ হাজার পুরুষ ছিল।) তিনি কিন্তু শিষ্যদের বললেন, “প্রত্যেক সারিতে কমবেশি পঞ্চাশ জন করে ওদের বসিয়ে দাও।”
(For there were about 5,000 adult men.) But He said to His disciples, "Make them sit down in parties of about fifty each."
15 শিষ্যেরা তাই করলেন, এবং প্রত্যেকে বসে পড়ল।
They did so, making them all, without exception, sit down.
16 সেই পাঁচটি রুটি ও দুটি মাছ নিয়ে যীশু স্বর্গের দিকে দৃষ্টি দিলেন, ধন্যবাদ দিলেন ও রুটিগুলিকে ভাঙলেন। তারপর তিনি সেগুলি লোকদের পরিবেশন করার জন্য শিষ্যদের হাতে তুলে দিলেন।
Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to Heaven He blessed them and broke them into portions which He gave to the disciples to distribute to the people.
17 তারা সকলে খেয়ে পরিতৃপ্ত হল। আর শিষ্যেরা অবশিষ্ট রুটির টুকরো সংগ্রহ করে বারো ঝুড়ি পূর্ণ করলেন।
So they ate and were fully satisfied, all of them; and what they had remaining over was gathered up, twelve baskets of fragments.
18 একদিন যীশু একান্তে প্রার্থনা করছিলেন। তাঁর শিষ্যেরাও তাঁর সঙ্গে ছিলেন। তিনি তাঁদের জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আমি কে, এ বিষয়ে লোকেরা কী বলে?”
One day when He was praying by Himself the disciples were present; and He asked them, "Who do the people say that I am?"
19 তাঁরা উত্তর দিলেন, “কেউ কেউ বলে আপনি বাপ্তিষ্মদাতা যোহন, অন্যেরা বলে এলিয়, আর কেউ কেউ বলে, প্রাচীনকালের কোনও একজন ভাববাদী যিনি পুনর্জীবিত হয়েছেন।”
"John the Baptist," they replied; "but others say Elijah; and others that some one of the ancient Prophets has come back to life."
20 “কিন্তু তোমরা কী বলো?” তিনি জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তোমরা কী বলো, আমি কে?” পিতর উত্তর দিলেন, “আপনি ঈশ্বরের সেই খ্রীষ্ট।”
"But you," He asked, "who do you say that I am?" "God's Anointed One," replied Peter.
21 একথা কারও কাছে প্রকাশ না করার জন্য যীশু দৃঢ়ভাবে তাঁদের সতর্ক করে দিলেন।
And Jesus strictly forbad them to tell this to any one;
22 তিনি বললেন, “মনুষ্যপুত্রকে বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে দুঃখভোগ করতে হবে; প্রাচীনবর্গ, মহাযাজকবৃন্দ ও শাস্ত্রবিদরা তাঁকে প্রত্যাখ্যান করবে। তাঁকে হত্যা করা হবে এবং তৃতীয় দিনে তাঁর পুনরুত্থান হবে।”
and He said, "The Son of Man must suffer much cruelty, be rejected by the Elders and High Priests and Scribes, and be put to death, and on the third day be raised to life again."
23 তারপর তিনি তাঁদের সবাইকে বললেন, “কেউ যদি আমাকে অনুসরণ করতে চায়, সে অবশ্যই নিজেকে অস্বীকার করবে, প্রতিদিন তার ক্রুশ তুলে নেবে ও আমাকে অনুসরণ করবে।
And He said to all, "If any one is desirous of following me, let him ignore self and take up his cross day by day, and so be my follower.
24 কারণ কেউ যদি তার প্রাণরক্ষা করতে চায়, সে তা হারাবে, কিন্তু কেউ যদি আমার কারণে তার প্রাণ হারায়, সে তা লাভ করবে।
For whoever desires to save his life shall lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake shall save it.
25 মানুষ যদি সমস্ত জগতের অধিকার লাভ করে ও তার নিজের প্রাণ হারায়, বা জীবন থেকে বঞ্চিত হয়, তাতে তার কী লাভ হবে?
Why, what benefit is it to a man to have gained the whole world, but to have lost or forfeited his own self.
26 কেউ যদি আমার ও আমার বাক্যের জন্য লজ্জাবোধ করে, মনুষ্যপুত্র যখন তাঁর নিজের মহিমায় ও তাঁর পিতা এবং পবিত্র স্বর্গদূতদের মহিমায় আসবেন, তিনিও তার জন্য লজ্জাবোধ করবেন।
For whoever shall have been ashamed of me and my teachings, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own and the Father's glory and in that of the holy angels.
27 “আমি তোমাদের সত্যিই বলছি, এখানে যারা দাঁড়িয়ে আছে, তাদের মধ্যে কেউ কেউ ঈশ্বরের রাজ্যের দর্শন না পাওয়া পর্যন্ত মৃত্যুর আস্বাদ লাভ করবে না।”
I tell you truly that there are some of those who stand here who will certainly not taste death till they have seen the Kingdom of God."
28 একথা বলার প্রায় আট দিন পরে যীশু পিতর, যোহন ও যাকোবকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে প্রার্থনা করার জন্য এক পর্বতে উঠলেন।
It was about eight days after this that Jesus, taking with Him Peter, John, and James, went up the mountain to pray.
29 প্রার্থনাকালে তাঁর মুখের রূপের পরিবর্তন হল এবং তাঁর পোশাক বিদ্যুতের মতো উজ্জ্বল হয়ে উঠল।
And while He was praying the appearance of His face underwent a change, and His clothing became white and radiant.
30 দুজন পুরুষ, মোশি ও এলিয়, হঠাৎই আবির্ভূত হয়ে যীশুর সঙ্গে কথা বলতে লাগলেন।
And suddenly there were two men conversing with Him, who were Moses and Elijah.
31 তাঁরা মহিমাময় রূপ নিয়ে আবির্ভূত হয়ে যীশুর সঙ্গে তাঁর আসন্ন প্রস্থানের বিষয়ে আলোচনা করছিলেন, যা তিনি জেরুশালেমে সম্পন্ন করতে চলেছিলেন।
They came in glory, and kept speaking about His death, which He was so soon to undergo in Jerusalem.
32 পিতর ও তাঁর সঙ্গীরা ঘুমে আচ্ছন্ন হয়ে পড়েছিলেন। কিন্তু যখন তাঁরা সম্পূর্ণ জেগে উঠলেন, তাঁরা যীশুর মহিমান্বিত রূপ এবং তাঁর সঙ্গে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকা দুই ব্যক্তিকে দেখতে পেলেন।
Now Peter and the others were weighed down with sleep; but, keeping themselves awake all through, they saw His glory, and the two men standing with Him.
33 যখন তাঁরা যীশুকে ছেড়ে চলে যেতে উদ্যত হলেন, তখন পিতর যীশুকে বললেন, “প্রভু, এখানে থাকা আমাদের পক্ষে ভালোই হবে। এখানে আমরা তিনটি তাঁবু নির্মাণ করি, একটি আপনার জন্য, একটি মোশির জন্য, ও একটি এলিয়ের জন্য।” (তিনি কী বলছেন, তা নিজেই বুঝতে পারলেন না।)
And when they were preparing to depart from Him, Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, we are thankful to you that we are here. Let us put up three tents--one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." He did not know what he was saying.
34 তিনি একথা বলছেন, এমন সময় একখণ্ড মেঘ এসে তাঁদের ঢেকে ফেলল। যখন তাঁরা মেঘে ঢাকা পড়লেন, তখন তাঁরা অত্যন্ত ভয়ভীত হলেন।
But while he was thus speaking, there came a cloud which spread over them; and they were awe-struck when they had entered into the cloud.
35 তখন মেঘের ভিতর থেকে একটি স্বর ধ্বনিত হল, “ইনিই আমার পুত্র, আমার মনোনীত, তোমরা এঁর কথা শোনো।”
Then there came a voice from within the cloud: "This is My Son, My Chosen One: listen to Him."
36 সেই স্বর ধ্বনিত হওয়ার পর, তাঁরা দেখলেন যীশু একা দাঁড়িয়ে আছেন। শিষ্যেরা নিজেদের মধ্যেই সেকথা গোপন করে রাখলেন, তাঁরা কী দেখেছেন, সে সম্বন্ধে তাঁরা কারও কাছেই প্রকাশ করলেন না।
After this voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They kept it to themselves, and said not a word to any one at that time about what they had seen.
37 পরদিন তাঁরা পর্বত থেকে নেমে আসার পর একদল লোক তাঁর সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করল।
On the following day, when they were come down from the mountain, a great crowd came to meet Him;
38 সকলের মধ্য থেকে এক ব্যক্তি তাঁকে উচ্চকণ্ঠে বলল, “গুরুমহাশয়, মিনতি করছি, আপনি আমার ছেলেটির দিকে দয়া করে একবার দেখুন, সে আমার একমাত্র সন্তান।
and a man from the crowd called out, "Rabbi, I beg you to pity my son, for he is my only child.
39 একটি আত্মা তার উপর ভর করেছে। সে হঠাৎ চিৎকার করে ওঠে। সেই আত্মা তাকে আছড়ে ফেলে এবং এমনভাবে মোচড় দেয় যে, তার মুখ দিয়ে ফেনা বের হতে থাকে। সে তাকে যন্ত্রণায় ক্ষতবিক্ষত করে দিচ্ছে, কিছুতেই তাকে ছেড়ে যায় না।
At times a spirit seizes him and he suddenly cries out. It convulses him, and makes him foam at the mouth, and does not leave him till it has well-nigh covered him with bruises.
40 আমি আপনার শিষ্যদের কাছে মিনতি করেছিলাম যেন তাঁরা সেই আত্মাকে তাড়িয়ে দেন, কিন্তু তাঁরা ব্যর্থ হয়েছেন।”
I entreated your disciples to expel the spirit, but they could not."
41 যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “ওহে অবিশ্বাসী ও বিপথগামী প্রজন্ম, আমি আর কত কাল তোমাদের সঙ্গে থাকব ও তোমাদের সহ্য করব? তোমার ছেলেটিকে এখানে নিয়ে এসো।”
"O unbelieving and perverse generation!" replied Jesus; "how long shall I be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here to me."
42 ছেলেটি যখন আসছিল, এমন সময় সেই ভূত তাকে মাটিতে আছাড় দিয়ে মুচড়ে ধরল। কিন্তু যীশু মন্দ-আত্মাটিকে ধমক দিলেন, ছেলেটিকে সুস্থ করলেন এবং তাকে তার বাবার কাছে ফিরিয়ে দিলেন।
Now while the youth was coming, the spirit dashed him to the ground and cruelly convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the foul spirit, and cured the youth and gave him back to his father.
43 ঈশ্বরের এই মহিমা দেখে তারা সকলে অভিভূত হয়ে পড়ল। যীশুর কার্যকলাপ যখন সবাইকে বিস্মিত করে দিল, তিনি তাঁর শিষ্যদের বললেন,
And all were awe-struck at the mighty power of God. And while every one was expressing wonder at all that He was doing, He said to his disciples,
44 “আমি তোমাদের যা বলতে চলেছি, তা মন দিয়ে শোনো। মনুষ্যপুত্র মানুষদের হাতে বিশ্বাসঘাতকতার শিকার হতে চলেছেন।”
"As for you, store these my sayings in your memory; for, before long, the Son of Man will be betrayed into the hands of men."
45 তাঁরা কিন্তু একথার অর্থ বুঝতে পারলেন না। বিষয়টি তাঁদের কাছে গুপ্ত রাখা হয়েছিল বলে, তাঁরা তা উপলব্ধি করতে পারলেন না। এ বিষয়ে জিজ্ঞাসা করতেও তাঁরা ভয় পেলেন।
But they did not understand His meaning: it was veiled from them that they might not perceive it, and they were afraid to ask Him about it.
46 পরে শিষ্যদের মধ্যে এক বিতর্কের সূচনা হল, তাদের মধ্যে কে শ্রেষ্ঠ?
Now there arose a dispute among them, which of them was to be the greatest.
47 যীশু তাঁদের মনোভাব জানতে পেরে একটি শিশুকে কাছে টেনে নিয়ে নিজের পাশে দাঁড় করালেন।
And Jesus, knowing the reasoning that was in their hearts, took a young child and made him stand by His side
48 তারপর তিনি তাঁদের বললেন, “যে আমার নামে এই শিশুটিকে স্বাগত জানায়, সে আমাকেই স্বাগত জানায়। যে আমাকে গ্রহণ করে, সে তাঁকেই গ্রহণ করে যিনি আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন। কারণ তোমাদের সকলের মধ্যে যে নগণ্য, সেই হল শ্রেষ্ঠ।”
and said to them, "Whoever for my sake receives this little child, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives Him who sent me. For the lowliest among you all--he is the greatest."
49 যোহন বললেন, “প্রভু, আমরা একজনকে আপনার নামে ভূত তাড়াতে দেখে, তাকে সে কাজ করতে বারণ করেছিলাম, কারণ সে আমাদের কেউ নয়।”
"Rabbi," replied John, "we have seen a man making use of your name to expel demons; and we forbad him, because he does not come with us."
50 যীশু বললেন, “তাকে নিষেধ কোরো না, কারণ যে তোমাদের বিপক্ষে নয়, সে তোমাদের সপক্ষে।”
"Do not forbid him," said Jesus, "for he who is not against you is on your side."
51 স্বর্গে যাওয়ার কাল সন্নিকট হলে, যীশু স্থিরসংকল্প হয়ে জেরুশালেমের দিকে যাত্রা করলেন।
Now when the time drew near for Him to be received up again into Heaven, He proceeded with fixed purpose towards Jerusalem, and sent messengers before Him.
52 তিনি তাঁর বার্তাবহদের আগেই পাঠিয়ে দিলেন। তাঁরা যীশুর জন্য সবকিছুর আয়োজন সম্পূর্ণ করতে শমরীয়দের এক গ্রামে প্রবেশ করলেন।
They went and entered a village of the Samaritans to make ready for Him.
53 কিন্তু তিনি জেরুশালেম দিকে যাচ্ছিলেন বলে সেখানকার অধিবাসীরা কেউ তাঁকে স্বাগত জানাল না।
But the people there would not receive Him, because He was evidently going to Jerusalem.
54 এই দেখে তাঁর দুজন শিষ্য, যাকোব ও যোহন জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “প্রভু, আপনি কি চান যে, আমরা ওদের ধ্বংস করার জন্য আকাশ থেকে আগুন নেমে আসতে বলি, যেমন এলিয় করেছিলেন?”
When the disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Master, do you wish us to order fire to come down from Heaven and consume them?"
55 কিন্তু যীশু তাঁদের দিকে ফিরে তিরস্কার করলেন।
But He turned and rebuked them.
56 এরপর তাঁরা অন্য গ্রামে চলে গেলেন।
And they went to another village.
57 তাঁরা রাস্তা দিয়ে যাচ্ছেন, সেই সময় একজন তাঁকে বলল, “আপনি যেখানে যাবেন আমিও আপনার সঙ্গে সেখানে যাব।”
And, as they proceeded on their way, a man came to Him and said, "I will follow you wherever you go."
58 উত্তরে যীশু বললেন, “শিয়ালদের গর্ত আছে, আকাশের পাখিদের বাসা আছে, কিন্তু মনুষ্যপুত্রের মাথা রাখার কোনও স্থান নেই।”
"The foxes have holes," said Jesus, "and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."
59 তারপর তিনি অন্য একজনকে বললেন, “আমাকে অনুসরণ করো।” কিন্তু সে উত্তর দিল, “প্রভু, প্রথমে আমাকে গিয়ে আমার পিতাকে সমাধি দিয়ে আসার অনুমতি দিন।”
"Follow me," He said to another. "Master," the man replied, "allow me first to go and bury my father."
60 যীশু তাকে বললেন, “মৃতরাই তাদের মৃতদের সমাধি দিক। কিন্তু তুমি গিয়ে ঈশ্বরের রাজ্যের কথা ঘোষণা করো।”
"Leave the dead," Jesus rejoined, "to bury their own dead; but you must go and announce far and wide the coming of the Kingdom of God."
61 আরও একজন বলল, “প্রভু, আমি আপনাকে অনুসরণ করব। কিন্তু আমাকে ফিরে গিয়ে প্রথমে পরিবারের কাছ থেকে বিদায় নিতে অনুমতি দিন।”
"Master," said yet another, "I will follow you; but allow me first to go and say good-bye to my friends at home."
62 যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “লাঙ্গলে হাত দিয়ে যে পিছনে ফিরে তাকায়, সে ঈশ্বরের রাজ্যের সেবাকাজের উপযুক্ত নয়।”
Jesus answered him, "No one who has put his hand to the plough, and then looks behind him, is fit for the Kingdom of God.
