1 তখন, নিস্তারপর্ব নামে পরিচিত খামিরবিহীন রুটির পর্ব ক্রমশ এগিয়ে আসছিল।
Meanwhile the Festival of the Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching,
2 আর প্রধান যাজকেরা ও শাস্ত্রবিদরা যীশুর হাত থেকে নিষ্কৃতি পাওয়ার পথ খুঁজছিল, কারণ তারা জনসাধারণকে ভয় করত।
and the High Priests and the Scribes were contriving how to destroy Him. But they feared the people.
3 শয়তান তখন সেই বারোজনের অন্যতম, ইষ্কারিয়োৎ নামে পরিচিত যিহূদার অন্তরে প্রবেশ করল।
Satan, however, entered into Judas (the man called Iscariot) who was one of the Twelve.
4 যিহূদা প্রধান যাজকবর্গ ও মন্দিরের পাহারায় নিযুক্ত পদস্থ কর্মচারীদের কাছে গিয়ে, কীভাবে যীশুকে ধরিয়ে দেবে, তা নিয়ে আলোচনা করল।
He went and conferred with the High Priests and Commanders as to how he should deliver Him up to them.
5 তারা আনন্দিত হয়ে তাকে টাকা দিতে সম্মত হল।
This gave them great pleasure, and they agreed to pay him.
6 সেও তাদের প্রস্তাবে সম্মত হয়ে জনসাধারণের অগোচরে যীশুকে তাদের হাতে তুলে দেওয়ার সুযোগ খুঁজতে লাগল।
He accepted their offer, and then looked out for an opportunity to betray Him when the people were not there.
7 অবশেষে খামিরবিহীন রুটির পর্বের দিন উপস্থিত হল। সেদিন নিস্তারপর্বের মেষ বলি দিতে হত।
When the day of the Unleavened Bread came--the day for the Passover lamb to be sacrificed--
8 যীশু পিতর ও যোহনকে পাঠিয়ে দিয়ে বললেন, “যাও, আমাদের জন্য নিস্তারপর্বের ভোজের আয়োজন করো।”
Jesus sent Peter and John with instructions. "Go," He said, "and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat it."
9 তাঁরা জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আপনি কী চান? আমরা কোথায় এর আয়োজন করব?”
"Where shall we prepare it?" they asked.
10 তিনি উত্তর দিলেন, “তোমরা নগরে প্রবেশ করেই দেখতে পাবে, এক ব্যক্তি জলের একটি কলশি নিয়ে যাচ্ছে। তোমরা তাকে অনুসরণ করে যে বাড়িতে সে প্রবেশ করবে, সেখানে যেয়ো।
"You will no sooner have entered the city," He replied, "than you will meet a man carrying a pitcher of water. Follow him into the house to which he goes,
11 তোমরা সেই বাড়ির কর্তাকে বোলো, ‘গুরুমহাশয় জানতে চান, অতিথিদের জন্য নির্দিষ্ট ঘরটি কোথায়, যেখানে আমি আমার শিষ্যদের নিয়ে নিস্তারপর্বের ভোজ গ্রহণ করতে পারি?’
and say to the master of the house, "'The Rabbi asks you, Where is the room where I can eat the Passover with my disciples?'
12 সে তোমাদের উপরতলার একটি সুসজ্জিত বড়ো ঘর দেখাবে। সেখানেই সব আয়োজন কোরো।”
"And he will show you a large furnished room upstairs. There make your preparations."
13 তাঁরা বেরিয়ে পড়ে যীশুর কথামতো সবকিছুই দেখতে পেলেন এবং নিস্তারপর্বের ভোজ প্রস্তুত করলেন।
So they went and found all as He had told them; and they got the Passover ready.
14 পরে সময় উপস্থিত হলে যীশু ও প্রেরিতশিষ্যেরা আসনে হেলান দিয়ে বসলেন।
When the time was come, and He had taken His place at table, and the Apostles with Him,
15 আর তিনি তাঁদের বললেন, “যন্ত্রণাভোগের আগে আমি তোমাদের সঙ্গে নিস্তারপর্বের ভোজ গ্রহণ করার জন্য সাগ্রহে প্রতীক্ষা করেছি।
He said to them, "Earnestly have I longed to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;
16 কারণ আমি তোমাদের বলছি, ঈশ্বরের রাজ্যে এই ভোজের উদ্দেশ্য বাস্তবায়িত না হওয়া পর্যন্ত, আমি আর এই ভোজ গ্রহণ করব না।”
for I tell you that I certainly shall not eat one again till its full meaning has been brought out in the Kingdom of God."
17 পরে তিনি পানপাত্র তুলে নিয়ে ধন্যবাদ দিলেন। তারপর বললেন, “এটি নাও ও তোমাদের মধ্যে ভাগ করো।
Then, having received the cup and given thanks, He said, "Take this and share it among yourselves;
18 আমি তোমাদের বলছি, ঈশ্বরের রাজ্যের আগমন না হওয়া পর্যন্ত আমি আর দ্রাক্ষারস পান করব না।”
for I tell you that from this time I will never drink the produce of the vine till the Kingdom of God has come."
19 তাপর তিনি রুটি নিলেন, ধন্যবাদ দিলেন ও ভেঙে তাঁদের দিলেন, আর বললেন, “এই হল আমার শরীর যা তোমাদের জন্য উৎসর্গীকৃত; আমার স্মরণার্থে তোমরা এরকম কোরো।”
Then, taking a Passover biscuit, He gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body which is being given on your behalf: this do in remembrance of me."
20 একইভাবে, খাবারের পরে তিনি পানপাত্র নিয়ে বললেন, “এই পানপাত্র আমার রক্তে নতুন নিয়ম, যা তোমাদেরই জন্য পাতিত হয়েছে।
He gave them the cup in like manner, when the meal was over. "This cup," He said, "is the new Covenant ratified by my blood which is to be poured out on your behalf.
21 কিন্তু যে আমার সঙ্গে বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করবে, তার হাত আমারই সঙ্গে টেবিলের উপরে আছে।
Yet the hand of him who is betraying me is at the table with me.
22 মনুষ্যপুত্র তাঁর নির্ধারিত পথেই এগিয়ে যাবেন, কিন্তু ধিক্ সেই ব্যক্তিকে, যে মনুষ্যপুত্রের সঙ্গে বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করবে!”
For indeed the Son of Man goes on His way--His pre-destined way; yet alas for that man who is betraying Him!"
23 তাঁরা পরস্পরকে জিজ্ঞাসা করতে লাগলেন যে, তাদের মধ্যে কে এমন কাজ করতে পারে!
Thereupon they began to discuss with one another which of them it could possibly be who was about to do this.
24 আর তাঁদের মধ্যে কে শ্রেষ্ঠ, এ নিয়েও একটি বিতর্ক দেখা দিল।
There arose also a dispute among them which of them should be regarded as greatest.
25 যীশু তাঁদের বললেন, “অন্য অন্য জাতির রাজা তাদের প্রজাদের উপরে প্রভুত্ব করে; আর যারা তাদের উপরে কর্তৃত্ব করে, তারা নিজেদের হিতার্থী বলে অভিহিত করে।
But He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles are their masters, and those who exercise authority over them are called Benefactors.
26 কিন্তু তোমরা সেরকম হোয়ো না। বরং, তোমাদের মধ্যে যে শ্রেষ্ঠ, তাকে হতে হবে যে সবচেয়ে ছোটো তার মতো, আর প্রশাসককে হতে হবে সেবকের মতো।
With you it is not so; but let the greatest among you be as the younger, and the leader be like him who serves.
27 কারণ শ্রেষ্ঠ কে? যে খাবার খেতে বসে সে, না, যে পরিবেশন করে, সে? যে খাবার খেতে বসে, সেই নয় কি? কিন্তু আমি তোমাদের মধ্যে সেবকের মতো আছি।
For which is the greater--he who sits at table, or he who waits on him? Is it not he who sits at table? But my position among you is that of one who waits on others.
28 আমার পরীক্ষার দিনগুলিতে তোমরা বরাবর আমার সঙ্গে আছ।
You however have remained with me amid my trials;
29 আমার পিতা যেমন আমাকে একটি রাজ্য অর্পণ করেছেন, আমিও তেমনই তোমাদের জন্য একটি রাজ্য নিরূপণ করছি,
and I covenant to give you, as my Father has covenanted to give me, a Kingdom--
30 যেন তোমরা আমার রাজ্যে আমারই সঙ্গে বসে খাওয়াদাওয়া করতে ও সিংহাসনে বসে ইস্রায়েলের বারো গোষ্ঠীর বিচার করতে পারো।
so that you shall eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom, and sit on thrones as judges over the twelve tribes of Israel.
31 “শিমোন, শিমোন, শয়তান তোমাদেরকে গমের মতো ঝাড়াই করার জন্য অনুমতি চেয়েছে।
"Simon, Simon, I tell you that Satan has obtained permission to have all of you to sift as wheat is sifted.
32 কিন্তু শিমোন, আমি তোমার জন্য প্রার্থনা করেছি, যেন তোমার বিশ্বাস ব্যর্থ না হয়। আর তুমি যখন ফিরে আসবে, তখন তোমার ভাইদের মধ্যে শক্তি সঞ্চার কোরো।”
But I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail, and you, when at last you have come back to your true self, must strengthen your brethren."
33 কিন্তু পিতর উত্তর দিলেন, “প্রভু, আমি আপনার সঙ্গে কারাগারে যেতে ও মৃত্যুবরণ করতেও প্রস্তুত আছি।”
"Master," replied Peter, "with you I am ready to go both to prison and to death."
34 যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “পিতর, আমি তোমাকে বলছি, আজ মোরগ ডাকার আগেই তুমি আমাকে চেনো না বলে তিনবার অস্বীকার করবে।”
"I tell you, Peter," said Jesus, "that the cock will not crow to-day till you have three times denied that you know me."
35 যীশু তারপর তাঁদের জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আমি যখন তোমাদের টাকার থলি, ঝুলি, বা চটিজুতো ছাড়াই পাঠিয়েছিলাম, তখন তোমরা কি কোনো কিছুর অভাববোধ করেছিলে?” তাঁরা উত্তর দিলেন, “না, কোনো কিছুরই নয়।”
Then He asked them, "When I sent you out without purse or bag or shoes, was there anything you needed?" "No, nothing," they replied.
36 তিনি তাঁদের বললেন, “কিন্তু এখন তোমাদের কাছে টাকার থলি থাকলে সঙ্গে নিয়ো, একটি ঝুলিও নিয়ো; যদি তোমাদের তরোয়াল না থাকে, তাহলে পোশাক বিক্রি করে তা কিনে নিয়ো।
"But now," said He, "let the one who has a purse take it, and he who has a bag must do the same. And let him who has no sword sell his outer garment and buy one.
37 কারণ লেখা আছে: ‘আর তিনি অপরাধীদের সঙ্গে গণিত হলেন’; আর আমি তোমাদের বলছি, যে লেখা আছে তা আমার জীবনে অবশ্যই পূর্ণ হবে। হ্যাঁ, আমার সম্পর্কে যা লেখা আছে, তার পূর্ণ হতে চলেছে।”
For I tell you that those words of Scripture must yet find their fulfilment in me: 'And He was reckoned among the lawless'; for indeed that saying about me has its accomplishment."
38 শিষ্যেরা বললেন, “প্রভু দেখুন, এখানে দুটি তরোয়াল আছে।” তিনি উত্তর দিলেন, “তাই যথেষ্ট।”
"Master, here are two swords," they exclaimed. "That is enough," He replied.
39 পরে যীশু সেখান থেকে বেরিয়ে তাঁর অভ্যাসমতো জলপাই পর্বতে গেলেন এবং তাঁর শিষ্যেরা তাঁকে অনুসরণ করলেন।
On going out, He proceeded as usual to the Mount of Olives, and His disciples followed Him.
40 সেই স্থানে উপস্থিত হয়ে তিনি তাঁদের বললেন, “প্রার্থনা করো, যেন তোমরা প্রলোভনে না পড়ো।”
But when He arrived at the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not come into temptation."
41 তিনি তাঁদের কাছ থেকে এক-ঢিল ছোঁড়া দূরত্বে গিয়ে নতজানু হয়ে প্রার্থনা করলেন,
But He Himself withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed repeatedly, saying,
42 “পিতা, তোমার ইচ্ছা হলে আমার কাছ থেকে এই পানপাত্র সরিয়ে নাও। তবুও আমার ইচ্ছা নয়, তোমারই ইচ্ছা পূর্ণ হোক।”
"Father, if it be Thy will, take this cup away from me; yet not my will but Thine be done!"
43 তখন স্বর্গের এক দূত তাঁর কাছে আবির্ভূত হয়ে তাঁকে শক্তি জোগালেন।
And there appeared to Him an angel from Heaven, strengthening Him;
44 নিদারুণ যন্ত্রণায়, তিনি প্রার্থনায় আরও একাগ্র হলেন; তাঁর ঘাম রক্তের বড়ো বড়ো ফোঁটার মতো মাটিতে ঝরে পড়ছিল।
while He--an agony of distress having come upon Him--prayed all the more with intense earnestness, and His sweat became like clots of blood dropping on the ground.
45 প্রার্থনা থেকে উঠে তিনি শিষ্যদের কাছে ফিরে গিয়ে দেখলেন, তাঁরা দুঃখে ভারাক্রান্ত হয়ে ঘুমিয়ে পড়েছেন।
When He rose from his prayer and came to His disciples, He found them sleeping for sorrow.
46 তিনি তাদের জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তোমরা ঘুমাচ্ছ কেন? ওঠো, প্রার্থনা করো, যেন তোমরা প্রলোভনে না পড়ো।”
"Why are you sleeping?" He said; "stand up; and pray that you may not come into temptation."
47 তিনি তখনও কথা বলছেন, এমন সময় একদল লোক উঠে এল আর তাদের সঙ্গে এল সেই বারোজনের অন্যতম যিহূদা। সে তাদের নেতৃত্ব দিচ্ছিল। সে চুম্বন করার জন্য যীশুর কাছে এগিয়ে এল।
While He was still speaking there came a crowd with Judas, already mentioned as one of the Twelve, at their head. He went up to Jesus to kiss Him.
48 কিন্তু যীশু তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “যিহূদা, তুমি কি চুম্বন করে মনুষ্যপুত্রকে শত্রুদের হাতে সমর্পণ করছ?”
"Judas," said Jesus, "are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"
49 যীশুর অনুগামীরা যখন দেখলেন কী ঘটতে যাচ্ছে, তাঁরা বললেন, “প্রভু, আমাদের তরোয়াল দিয়ে কি আঘাত করব?”
Those who were about Him, seeing what was likely to happen, asked Him, "Master, shall we strike with the sword?"
50 তাঁদের মধ্যে একজন মহাযাজকের দাসকে আঘাত করে তার ডানদিকের কান কেটে ফেললেন।
And one of them struck a blow at the High Priest's servant and cut off his right ear.
51 কিন্তু যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “এমন যেন আর না ঘটে!” আর তিনি সেই লোকটির কান স্পর্শ করে তাকে সুস্থ করে দিলেন।
"Permit me thus far," said Jesus. And He touched the ear and healed it.
52 আর যে প্রধান যাজকবর্গ, মন্দিরের প্রহরীদলের অধ্যক্ষেরা ও প্রাচীনবর্গ যীশুর উদ্দেশে এসেছিল, তিনি তাদের বললেন, “আমি কি বিদ্রোহের নেতৃত্ব দিচ্ছি যে, তোমরা তরোয়াল ও লাঠিসোঁটা নিয়ে এসেছ?
Then Jesus said to the High Priests and Commanders of the Temple and Elders, who had come to arrest Him, "Have you come out as if to fight with a robber, with swords and cudgels?
53 আমি মন্দির চত্বরে প্রতিদিনই তোমাদের মধ্যে ছিলাম। তখন তোমরা আমার উপরে হস্তক্ষেপ করোনি। কিন্তু এই হল তোমাদের সুসময়, কারণ এখন অন্ধকারেরই রাজত্ব।”
While day after day I was with you in the Temple, you did not lay hands upon me; but to you belongs this hour--and the power of darkness."
54 তারা তখন যীশুকে বন্দি করল ও তাঁকে মহাযাজকের বাড়িতে নিয়ে গেল। পিতর দূরত্ব বজায় রেখে অনুসরণ করলেন।
And they arrested Him and led Him away, and brought Him to the High Priest's house, while Peter followed a good way behind.
55 কিন্তু উঠানের মাঝখানে তারা যখন আগুন জ্বেলে একসঙ্গে বসল, পিতরও তাদের সঙ্গে বসলেন।
And when they had lighted a fire in the middle of the court and had seated themselves in a group round it, Peter was sitting among them,
56 একজন দাসী আগুনের আলোয় তাঁকে সেখানে বসে থাকতে দেখল। সে তাঁর দিকে একদৃষ্টে তাকিয়ে বলল, “এই লোকটিও ওর সঙ্গে ছিল।”
when a maidservant saw him sitting by the fire, and, looking fixedly at him, she said, "This man also was with him."
57 কিন্তু তিনি অস্বীকার করে বললেন, “নারী, আমি ওঁকে চিনি না।”
But he denied it, and declared, "Woman, I do not know him."
58 অল্প কিছুক্ষণ পরে আর একজন তাকে দেখে বলল, “তুমিও ওদের একজন।” পিতর বললেন, “ওহে, আমি নই।”
Shortly afterwards a man saw him and said, "You, too, are one of them." "No, man, I am not," said Peter.
59 প্রায় এক ঘণ্টা পরে আরও একজন দৃঢ়ভাবে বলল, “নিঃসন্দেহে, এই লোকটিও তাঁর সঙ্গে ছিল, কারণ এ একজন গালীলীয়।”
After an interval of about an hour some one else stoutly maintained: "Certainly this fellow also was with him, for in fact he is a Galilaean."
60 পিতর উত্তর দিলেন, “ওহে, তুমি কী বলছ, আমি বুঝতে পারছি না।” তিনি কথা বলছিলেন, এমন সময় মোরগ ডেকে উঠল।
"Man, I don't know what you mean," replied Peter. No sooner had he spoken than a cock crowed.
61 প্রভু মুখ ফিরালেন ও সোজা পিতরের দিকে তাকালেন। তখন প্রভু তাঁকে যে কথা বলেছিলেন, পিতরের তা মনে পড়ল: “আজ মোরগ ডাকার আগেই তুমি আমাকে তিনবার অস্বীকার করবে।”
The Master turned and looked on Peter; and Peter recollected the Master's words, how He had said to him, "This very day, before the cock crows, you will disown me three times."
62 তখন পিতর বাইরে গিয়ে তীব্র কান্নায় ভেঙে পড়লেন।
And he went out and wept aloud bitterly.
63 যারা যীশুর পাহারায় নিযুক্ত ছিল, তারা তাঁকে বিদ্রুপ ও মারধর করতে লাগল।
Meanwhile the men who held Jesus in custody repeatedly beat Him in cruel sport,
64 তাঁর চোখ বেঁধে দিয়ে তারা জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “ভাববাণী বল দেখি! কে তোকে মারল?”
or blindfolded Him, and then challenged Him. "Prove to us," they said, "that you are a prophet, by telling us who it was that struck you."
65 তারা তাঁকে আরও অনেক অপমানসূচক কথা বলল।
And they said many other insulting things to Him.
66 সকাল হলে সেই জাতির প্রাচীনবর্গ, দুই প্রধান যাজক ও শাস্ত্রবিদদের মন্ত্রণা পরিষদ সমবেত হল। যীশুকে তাদের সামনে হাজির করা হল।
As soon as it was day, the whole body of the Elders, both High Priests and Scribes, assembled. Then He was brought into their Sanhedrin, and they asked Him,
67 তারা বলল, “তুমি যদি সেই খ্রীষ্ট হও, তাহলে আমাদের বলো।” যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “আমি তোমাদের বললে তোমরা আমাকে বিশ্বাস করবে না।
"Are you the Christ? Tell us." "If I tell you," He replied, "you will certainly not believe;
68 আর আমি যদি তোমাদের প্রশ্ন করি, তোমরাও উত্তর দেবে না।
and if I ask you questions, you will certainly not answer.
69 কিন্তু এখন থেকে, মনুষ্যপুত্র সর্বশক্তিমান ঈশ্বরের ডানদিকে উপবিষ্ট থাকবেন।”
But from this time forward the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of God's omnipotence."
70 তারা সবাই প্রশ্ন করল, “তাহলে, তুমিই কি ঈশ্বরের পুত্র?” তিনি বললেন, “তোমরা ঠিক কথাই বলছ, আমিই তিনি।”
Thereupon they cried out with one voice, "You, then, are the Son of God?" "It is as you say," He answered; "I am He."
71 তখন তারা বলল, “আমাদের আর সাক্ষ্য-প্রমাণের কী প্রয়োজন? আমরা নিজেরাই তো ওর মুখ থেকে একথা শুনলাম।”
"What need have we of further evidence?" they said; "for we ourselves have heard it from his own lips."
