যিহোশূয়ের বই 9

1 এদিকে জর্ডন নদীর পশ্চিম পারের সব রাজা—পার্বত্য অঞ্চলের, পশ্চিম পাদদেশের, এবং লেবানন পর্যন্ত ভূমধ্যসাগরের সমগ্র উপকূলবর্তী এলাকার রাজারা (হিত্তীয়, ইমোরীয়, কনানীয়, পরিষীয়, হিব্বীয় ও যিবূষীয়দের রাজারা) যখন এসব বিষয় শুনলেন,

And it was when heard all the kings who [were] on [the] other side of the Jordan in the hill country and in the Shephelah and in all [the] coast of the sea great to [the] front of Lebanon the Hittite[s] and the Amorite[s] the Canaanite[s] the Perizzite[s] the Hivite[s] and the Jebusite[s].

2 তখন তাঁরা একসঙ্গে মিলিত হয়ে যিহোশূয় ও ইস্রায়েলের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ ঘোষণা করলেন।

And they gathered together all together to wage war with Joshua and with Israel mouth one.

3 অবশ্য, গিবিয়োনের লোকজন যখন শুনতে পেল, যিহোশূয় যিরীহো ও অয়ের প্রতি কী করেছেন,

And [the] inhabitants of Gibeon they heard [that] which he had done Joshua to Jericho and to Ai.

4 তখন তারা এক কৌশল অবলম্বন করল: তারা এমন এক প্রতিনিধিদলরূপে গেল যাদের গাধাগুলির পিঠে ছেঁড়া বস্তা ও চিড়-খাওয়া ও তাপ্পি মারা সুরাধার রাখা ছিল।

And they acted also they with cunning and they went and they acted as ambassadors and they took sacks worn out for donkeys their and skin-bottles of wine worn out and split and tied up.

5 তারা ক্ষয়ে যাওয়া ও তাপ্পি মারা চটিজুতো পায়ে দিল এবং পুরোনো পোশাক গায়ে দিল। তাদের খাওয়ার জন্য সব রুটি ছিল শুকনো ও ছাতাধরা।

And sandals worn out and patched [were] on feet their and garments worn out [were] on them and all [the] bread of provision[s] their it was dried up it was crumbs.

6 পরে তারা গিল্‌গলে অবস্থিত শিবিরে যিহোশূয়ের কাছে গেল এবং তাঁকে ও ইস্রায়েলীদের বলল, “আমরা এক দূরদেশ থেকে আসছি; আমাদের সঙ্গে আপনারা মৈত্রীচুক্তি করুন।”

And they went to Joshua to the camp Gilgal and they said to him and to [the] man of Israel from a land distant we have come and therefore make to us a covenant.

7 ইস্রায়েলীরা হিব্বীয়দের বলল, “কিন্তু হয়তো তোমরা আমাদের কাছাকাছি বসবাস করছ, তাই আমরা কীভাবে তোমাদের সঙ্গে মৈত্রীচুক্তি করব?”

(And he said *Q(K)*) [the] man of Israel to the Hivite[s] perhaps in midst my you [are] dwelling and how? (will I make *Q(k)*) to you a covenant.

8 “আমরা আপনার দাস,” তারা যিহোশূয়কে বলল। কিন্তু যিহোশূয় জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তোমরা কারা এবং তোমরা কোথা থেকে এসেছ?”

And they said to Joshua [are] servants your we and he said to them Joshua who? [are] you and from where? do you come.

9 তারা উত্তর দিল: “আপনাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর সুখ্যাতি শুনে আপনার দাস আমরা বহু দূরের এক দেশ থেকে এখানে এলাম। কারণ আমরা তাঁর খবর শুনলাম: তিনি মিশরে যেসব কাজ করেছেন,

And they said to him from a land distant very they have come servants your to [the] name of Yahweh God your for we have heard [the] report of him and all that he did in Egypt.

10 এবং জর্ডন নদীর পূর্বপারের ইমোরীয়দের দুই রাজার—হিষ্‌বোনের রাজা সীহোন ও যিনি অষ্টারোতে রাজত্ব করতেন, বাশনের রাজা সেই ওগের—প্রতি তিনি যেসব কাজ করেছেন, সেকথাও আমরা শুনেছি।

And - all that he did to [the] two [the] kings of the Amorite[s] who [were] on [the] other side of the Jordan to Sihon [the] king of Heshbon and to Og [the] king of Bashan who [was] in Ashtaroth.

11 আর আমাদের প্রাচীনেরা ও আমাদের দেশে বসবাসকারী সবাই আমাদের বললেন, ‘তোমাদের যাত্রার জন্য তোমরা পাথেয় নাও; যাও এবং তাদের সঙ্গে দেখা করো ও তাদের বলো, “আমরা আপনাদের দাস; আমাদের সঙ্গে এক মৈত্রীচুক্তি করুন।”’

And they said to us elders our and all [the] inhabitants of land our saying take in hand your provision[s] for the journey and go to meet them and you will say to them [are] servants your we and therefore make to us a covenant.

12 যেদিন আমরা আপনাদের কাছে আসার জন্য বাড়ি ছেড়েছিলাম, সেদিন ঘরে বোঁচকা বাঁধা আমাদের এই রুটিগুলি সব টাটকা ছিল। কিন্তু এখন দেখুন, এগুলি কেমন শুকনো হয়ে গিয়েছে ও এতে ছাতা ধরেছে।

This - bread our warm we took as our provisions it from homes our on [the] day came out we to come to you and now here! it has dried up and it has been crumbs.

13 আর আমাদের ভর্তি করা এই সুরাধারগুলি নতুন ছিল, কিন্তু দেখুন, এগুলিতে কেমন চিড় ধরেছে। আর এই সুদীর্ঘ যাত্রার ফলে আমাদের পোশাক-পরিচ্ছদ ও চটিজুতোও ছিঁড়ে গিয়েছে।”

And these [the] skin-bottles of wine which we filled new and here! they have split and these garments our and sandals our they have worn out from [the] greatness of the journey very.

14 ইস্রায়েলীরা সেইসব খাবারদাবার পরীক্ষা করে দেখল কিন্তু সদাপ্রভুর কাছে খোঁজ করল না।

And they took the men some of provision[s] their and [the] mouth of Yahweh not they asked.

15 তখন যিহোশূয় তাদের সঙ্গে এক মৈত্রীচুক্তি করলেন, যেন তারা বেঁচে থাকে, এবং সমাজের সব নেতা শপথের দ্বারা সেটির অনুমোদন দিলেন।

And he made to them Joshua peace and he made to them a covenant to let live them and they swore an oath to them [the] leaders of the congregation.

16 গিবিয়োনীয়দের সঙ্গে মৈত্রীচুক্তি করার তিন দিন পর, ইস্রায়েলীরা শুনতে পেল যে, তারা তাদেরই প্রতিবেশী, তাদের কাছেই বসবাস করছিল।

And it was from [the] end of three days after that they had made to them a covenant and they heard that [were] near they to him and in midst his they [were] dwelling.

17 তাই ইস্রায়েলীরা যাত্রা করে তৃতীয় দিনে তাদের এই নগরগুলির কাছে পৌঁছে গেল: গিবিয়োন, কফীরা, বেরোৎ ও কিরিয়ৎ-যিয়ারীম।

And they set out [the] people of Israel and they came to cities their on the day third and cities their [were] Gibeon and Kephirah and Beeroth and Kiriath Jearim.

18 ইস্রায়েলীরা কিন্তু তাদের আক্রমণ করল না, কারণ সমাজের নেতারা ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর নামে তাদের কাছে শপথ করেছিলেন। সমগ্র জনসমাজ নেতাদের বিরুদ্ধে অসন্তোষ প্রকাশ করল,

And not they attacked them [the] people of Israel for they had sworn an oath to them [the] leaders of the congregation by Yahweh [the] God of Israel and they grumbled all the congregation on the leaders.

19 কিন্তু নেতারা সবাই তাদের উত্তর দিলেন, “আমরা ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর নামে তাদের কাছে শপথ করেছি, তাই এখন আমরা আর তাদের স্পর্শ করতে পারব না।

And they said all the leaders to all the congregation we we have sworn an oath to them by Yahweh [the] God of Israel and therefore not we are able to touch them.

20 আমরা তাদের প্রতি এরকম করব: আমরা তাদের বেঁচে থাকতে দেব, যেন তাদের কাছে করা শপথ ভাঙার জন্য আমাদের উপরে ঈশ্বরের ক্রোধ নেমে না আসে।”

This we will do to them and we will let live them and not it will be towards us wrath on the oath which we swore to them.

21 তাঁরা আরও বললেন, “তারা বেঁচে থাকুক, কিন্তু সমগ্র সমাজের সেবায় তারা কাঠুরিয়া ও জল বহনকারী হয়েই থাকুক।” অতএব তাদের কাছে করা নেতাদের প্রতিজ্ঞা রক্ষিত হল।

And they said to them the leaders let them live and they were cutters of wood and drawers of water for all the congregation just as they had spoken to them the leaders.

22 পরে যিহোশূয় গিবিয়োনীয়দের ডেকে পাঠালেন ও বললেন, “তোমরা কেন একথা বলে আমাদের সঙ্গে প্রতারণা করলে যে, ‘আমরা আপনাদের থেকে বহুদূরে বসবাস করি,’ প্রকৃতপক্ষে যখন তোমরা আমাদের কাছেই থাকো?

And he summoned them Joshua and he spoke to them saying why? did you deceive us saying [are] distant we from you very and you in midst our [are] dwelling.

23 এখন তোমরা এক অভিশাপের অধীন হলে: আমার ঈশ্বরের গৃহের জন্য কাঠুরিয়ার ও জল বহনকারীর সেবাকাজ থেকে তোমরা কখনও নিষ্কৃতি পাবে না।”

And therefore [are] cursed you and not he will be cut off from you a slave and cutters of wood and drawers of water for [the] house of God my.

24 তারা যিহোশূয়কে উত্তর দিল, “আপনার দাসেদের স্পষ্ট করে বলে দেওয়া হয়েছিল কীভাবে আপনার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু তাঁর দাস মোশিকে আদেশ দিয়েছিলেন, যে তিনি সমগ্র দেশটি আপনাদের দেবেন এবং এখানকার সমস্ত অধিবাসীকে আপনাদের সামনে থেকে নিশ্চিহ্ন করে ফেলবেন। তাই আপনাদের কারণে আমরা প্রাণভয়ে ভীত হয়েছি, এবং সেজন্যই এরকম করেছি।

And they answered Joshua and they said that certainly it was told to servants your this: he had commanded Yahweh God your Moses servant his to give to you all the land and to destroy all [the] inhabitants of the land from before you and we were afraid very for lives our because of you and we did the thing this.

25 এখন আমরা আপনার হাতেই আছি। আপনার যা ভালো ও ন্যায্য মনে হয়, আমাদের প্রতি তাই করুন।”

And therefore here we [are] in hand your according to the good and according to the right in view your to do to us do.

26 অতএব যিহোশূয় ইস্রায়েলীদের হাত থেকে তাদের রক্ষা করলেন, এবং ইস্রায়েলীরা তাদের হত্যা করল না।

And he did to them thus and he delivered them from [the] hand of [the] people of Israel and not they killed them.

27 গিবিয়োনীয়দের সেদিন তিনি সমাজের জন্য কাঠুরিয়া ও জল বহনকারীরূপে, ও সদাপ্রভুর মনোনীত স্থানে সদাপ্রভুর যজ্ঞবেদির চাহিদা মিটানোর কাজে নিযুক্ত করলেন। আর আজও পর্যন্ত তারা এরকমই হয়ে আছে।

And he made them Joshua on the day that cutters of wood and drawers of water for the congregation and for [the] altar of Yahweh until the day this to the place which he will choose.
