1 যখন জর্ডন নদীর পশ্চিম পারে ইমোরীয়দের সমস্ত রাজা ও উপকূল বরাবর কনানীয়দের সমস্ত রাজা শুনতে পেলেন, জর্ডন নদী অতিক্রম না করা পর্যন্ত, সদাপ্রভু কীভাবে তা ইস্রায়েলীদের সামনে শুকনো করে দিয়েছিলেন, ভয়ে তাদের হৃদয় গলে গেল। ইস্রায়েলীদের সম্মুখীন হওয়ার সাহস আর তাদের রইল না।
Nowe when all the Kings of the Amorites, which were beyond Iorden Westward, and all the Kinges of the Canaanites which were by the Sea, heard that the Lord had dried vp the waters of Iorden before the children of Israel vntill they were gone ouer, their heart fainted: and there was no courage in them any more because of the children of Israel.
2 সেই সময় সদাপ্রভু যিহোশূয়কে বললেন, “তুমি চকমকি পাথরের কয়েকটি ছুরি তৈরি করো এবং আরেকবার ইস্রায়েলীদের সুন্নত করাও।”
That same time the Lord said vnto Ioshua, Make thee sharpe kniues, and returne, and circumcise the sonnes of Israel the second time.
3 তাই যিহোশূয় চকমকি পাথরের কয়েকটি ছুরি তৈরি করলেন এবং গিবিয়োৎ-হারালোতে ইস্রায়েলীদের সুন্নত করালেন।
Then Ioshua made him sharpe kniues and circumcised the sonnes of Israel in the hill of the foreskinnes.
4 যিহোশূয় এরকম করার কারণ হল এই: যারা মিশর থেকে বের হয়ে এসেছিল—সৈন্যবাহিনীতে যোগদানের উপযোগী বয়ঃপ্রাপ্ত সমস্ত পুরুষ—তারা সবাই মিশর ত্যাগ করে আসার পর পথে মরুপ্রান্তরে মারা গিয়েছিল।
And this is the cause why Ioshua circumcised all the people, euen the males that came out of Egypt, because all the men of warre were dead in the wildernesse by the way after they came out of Egypt.
5 যারা বের হয়ে এসেছিল, তাদের সকলের সুন্নত হয়েছিল, কিন্তু যাদের জন্ম মিশর থেকে যাত্রাপথে মরুপ্রান্তরে হয়েছিল, তাদের সুন্নত করা হয়নি।
For all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were borne in the wildernes by the way after they came out of Egypt, were not circumcised.
6 মরুপ্রান্তরে ইস্রায়েলীরা চল্লিশ বছর ইতস্তত ভ্রমণ করল। সেই সময়, সৈন্যবাহিনীতে যোগদান করা সমস্ত পুরুষের—যারা মিশর থেকে বের হয়ে এসেছিল—মৃত্যু হল, যেহেতু তারা সদাপ্রভুর আদেশ পালন করেনি। সদাপ্রভু তাদের কাছে শপথ করে বলেছিলেন যে, যে দুধ ও মধু প্রবাহিত দেশটি তিনি তাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের দেওয়ার প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়েছিলেন, তা তারা দেখতেই পাবে না।
For the children of Israel walked fourtie yeres in the wildernes, till all the people of the men of warre that came out of Egypt were consumed, because they obeyed not the voyce of the Lord: vnto whome the Lord sware, that he would not shewe them the lande, which the Lord had sworne vnto their fathers, that he would giue vs, euen a land that floweth with milke and hony.
7 তাই তিনি তাদের স্থানে তাদের সন্তানদের উৎপন্ন করলেন, এবং যিহোশূয় এদেরই সুন্নত করিয়েছিলেন। তাদের তখনও পর্যন্ত সুন্নত হয়নি, যেহেতু পথিমধ্যে তাদের সুন্নত করানো হয়নি।
So their sonnes whome he raysed vp in their steade, Ioshua circumcised: for they were vncircumcised, because they circumcised them not by the way.
8 আর সমগ্র জাতির সুন্নত করানোর পর, যতক্ষণ না তারা সুস্থ হল, তারা সেখানেই শিবিরের মধ্যে অবস্থান করল।
And when they had made an ende of circumcising al the people, they abode in the places in the campe till they were whole.
9 পরে সদাপ্রভু যিহোশূয়কে বললেন, “আজ আমি তোমাদের মধ্য থেকে মিশরের দুর্নাম গড়িয়ে দিলাম।” তাই সেই স্থানটির নাম আজও পর্যন্ত গিল্গল বলে আখ্যাত রয়েছে।
After, the Lord said vnto Ioshua, This day I haue taken away the shame of Egypt from you: wherefore he called the name of that place Gilgal, vnto this day.
10 যিরীহোর সমভূমিতে গিল্গলে শিবির স্থাপন করে থাকার সময়, মাসের চতুর্দশ দিনের সন্ধ্যাবেলায় ইস্রায়েলীরা নিস্তারপর্ব উদ্যাপন করল।
So the children of Israel abode in Gilgal, and kept ye feast of the Passeouer the fourteenth day of the moneth at euen in ye plaine of Iericho.
11 নিস্তারপর্বের পরের দিন, ঠিক সেদিনই, তারা সেই দেশে উৎপন্ন শস্যের খানিকটা: খামিরবিহীন রুটি ও সেঁকা শস্য ভোজন করল।
And they did eat of the corne of the land, on the morow after the Passeouer, vnleauened breade, and parched corne in the same day.
12 দেশের এই খাদ্য ভোজন করার পরই মান্না বর্ষণ নিবৃত্ত হল; ইস্রায়েলীদের জন্য কোনও মান্না আর রইল না, কিন্তু সেবছর তারা কনানে উৎপন্ন শস্য ভোজন করল।
And the MAN ceased on the morowe after they had eaten of the corne of the land, neither had the children of Israel MAN any more, but did eate of the fruite of the land of Canaan that yeere.
13 পরে যিহোশূয় যখন যিরীহোর কাছে গেলেন, তিনি উপরে তাকিয়ে খাপ খোলা তরোয়াল হাতে একজন লোককে তাঁর সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকতে দেখলেন। যিহোশূয় তাঁর দিকে এগিয়ে গিয়ে তাঁকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আপনি কি আমাদের পক্ষে, না আমাদের শত্রুদের পক্ষে?”
And when Ioshua was by Iericho, he lift vp his eyes and looked: and behold, there stood a man against him, hauing a sword drawen in his hand: and Ioshua went vnto him, and said vnto him, Art thou on our side, or on our aduersaries?
14 “কোনও পক্ষেই নই,” তিনি উত্তর দিলেন, “কিন্তু আমি এখন সদাপ্রভুর সৈন্যদলের সেনাপতিরূপে এসেছি।” তখন যিহোশূয় সম্মান দেখিয়ে মাটিতে মাথা নত করে তাঁকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আমার প্রভু তাঁর এই দাসের জন্য কী খবর এনেছেন?”
And he said, Nay, but as a captaine of the host of the Lord am I nowe come: then Ioshua fel on his face to the earth, and did worship, and saide vnto him, What sayth my Lord vnto his seruant?
15 সদাপ্রভুর সৈন্যদলের সেনাপতি উত্তর দিলেন, “তোমার চটিজুতো খুলে ফেলো, যেহেতু তুমি যেখানে দাঁড়িয়ে আছ, সেই স্থানটি পবিত্র।” আর যিহোশূয় সেরকমই করলেন।
And the captaine of ye Lords host said vnto Ioshua, Loose thy shoe of thy foote: for ye place wheron thou standest, is holy: and Ioshua did so.
