যিহোশূয়ের বই 4

1 যখন সমগ্র জাতি জর্ডন নদী পার হয়ে গেল, তখন সদাপ্রভু যিহোশূয়কে বললেন,

And it comes to pass, when all the nation has completed to pass over the Jordan, that YHWH speaks to Joshua, saying,

2 “তুমি প্রত্যেক গোষ্ঠী থেকে এক একজন করে, মোট বারোজনকে লোকদের মধ্য থেকে বাছাই করো,

“Take for yourselves twelve men out of the people, one man—one man out of a tribe;

3 ও তাদের বলো, যেখানে যাজকেরা দাঁড়িয়েছিলেন, অর্থাৎ জর্ডন নদীর মাঝখান থেকে তারা যেন বারোটি পাথর তুলে আনে ও তোমার সাথে থেকে সেগুলি বহন করে যেখানে তোমরা আজ রাতে থাকবে, সেখানে এনে ফেলে।”

and command them, saying, Take up for yourselves from this [place], from the midst of the Jordan, from the established standing-place of the feet of the priests, twelve stones, and you have removed them over with you, and placed them in the lodging-place in which you lodge tonight.”

4 তাই যিহোশূয় যে বারোজনকে ইস্রায়েলীদের প্রত্যেক গোষ্ঠীর মধ্য থেকে এক একজন করে নিযুক্ত করলেন, তাদের একসাথে ডেকে নিলেন,

And Joshua calls to the twelve men whom he prepared out of the sons of Israel, one man—one man out of a tribe;

5 ও তিনি তাদের বললেন, “তোমরা জর্ডন নদীর মাঝখানে তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর সিন্দুকের সামনে যাও। ইস্রায়েলীদের গোষ্ঠীসমূহের সংখ্যা অনুযায়ী, তোমরা প্রত্যেকে সেখান থেকে এক-একটি করে পাথর নিজেদের কাঁধে তুলে নেবে।

and Joshua says to them, “Pass over before the Ark of your God YHWH into the midst of the Jordan, and each of you lift up one stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel,

6 সেগুলি তোমাদের পক্ষে চিহ্নস্বরূপ হবে। ভবিষ্যতে, তোমাদের সন্তানেরা যখন জিজ্ঞাসা করবে, ‘এই পাথরগুলির তাৎপর্য কী?’

so that this is a sign in your midst when your children ask hereafter, saying, What [are] these stones to you?

7 তোমরা তাদের বোলো যে, সদাপ্রভুর নিয়ম-সিন্দুকের সামনে জর্ডন নদীর প্রবাহিত স্রোত ছিন্ন হয়ে গিয়েছিল। তা যখন জর্ডন নদী অতিক্রম করেছিল, তখন জর্ডন নদীর জলরাশি বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়ে গিয়েছিল। এই পাথরগুলি চিরকালের জন্য ইস্রায়েলী লোকদের কাছে স্মারকস্বরূপ হবে।”

That you have said to them, Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off, at the presence of the Ark of the Covenant of YHWH; in its passing over into the Jordan the waters of the Jordan were cut off; and these stones have been for a memorial to the sons of Israel for all time.”

8 তাই যিহোশূয়ের আদেশমতো ওই ইস্রায়েলীরা সেরকমই করল। সদাপ্রভু যেমন যিহোশূয়কে বললেন, ইস্রায়েলীদের গোষ্ঠী সংখ্যা অনুসারে, তারা জর্ডন নদীর মাঝখান থেকে বারোটি পাথর তুলে আনল। তারা সেগুলি বয়ে নিয়ে তাদের শিবিরে নিয়ে গেল। তারা সেখানেই সেগুলি নামিয়ে রাখল।

And the sons of Israel do so as Joshua commanded, and take up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as YHWH has spoken to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel, and remove them over with them to the lodging-place, and place them there,

9 যেখানে নিয়ম-সিন্দুক বহনকারী যাজকেরা দাঁড়িয়েছিলেন, সেখানে জর্ডন নদীর মধ্যে যিহোশূয় বারোটি পাথর স্থাপন করলেন। আর সেগুলি আজও পর্যন্ত সেখানেই আছে।

even the twelve stones Joshua has raised up out of the midst of the Jordan, the place of the standing of the feet of the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant, and they are there to this day.

10 মোশি যিহোশূয়কে যেমন নির্দেশ দিয়েছিলেন, সেইমতো যিহোশূয়কে দেওয়া সদাপ্রভুর সমস্ত আদেশ লোকেরা পালন না করা পর্যন্ত সিন্দুক বহনকারী যাজকেরা জর্ডন নদীর মাঝখানে দাঁড়িয়ে রইলেন। লোকেরা তাড়াতাড়ি নদী পার হয়ে গেল।

And the priests carrying the Ark are standing in the midst of the Jordan until the completion of the whole thing which YHWH commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua, and the people hurry and pass over.

11 যেই তারা সবাই নদী পার হয়ে গেল, সদাপ্রভুর সিন্দুক ও যাজকেরা লোকদের চক্ষুগোচরে নদীর অন্য পারে চলে গেলেন।

And it comes to pass, when all the people have completed to pass over, that the Ark of YHWH passes over, and the priests, in the presence of the people;

12 রূবেণ, গাদ ও মনঃশির অর্ধ বংশের লোকেরা সশস্ত্র হয়ে ইস্রায়েলীদের সামনে পার হয়ে গেল, যেমন মোশি তাদের নির্দেশ দিয়েছিলেন।

and the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh, pass over, by fifties, before the sons of Israel, as Moses had spoken to them;

13 যুদ্ধ করার জন্য প্রস্তুত প্রায় 40,000 সৈন্য সদাপ্রভুর সামনে নদী পার হয়ে যুদ্ধের জন্য যিরীহোর সমভূমিতে গেল।

about forty thousand, armed ones of the host, passed over before YHWH for battle, to the plains of Jericho.

14 সেদিন সদাপ্রভু সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলের সাক্ষাতে যিহোশূয়কে উন্নত করলেন; তারা তাঁর জীবনকালের শেষ পর্যন্ত তাঁকে সম্ভ্রম করে চলল, যেমন তারা মোশির ক্ষেত্রেও করত।

On that day YHWH has made Joshua great in the eyes of all Israel, and they fear him, as they feared Moses, all [the] days of his life.

15 পরে সদাপ্রভু যিহোশূয়কে বললেন,

And YHWH speaks to Joshua, saying,

16 “তুমি যাজকদের আদেশ দাও, তারা যেন বিধিনিয়মের সিন্দুক বহন করে জর্ডন নদী থেকে বের হয়ে আসে।”

“Command the priests carrying the Ark of the Testimony, and they come up out of the Jordan.”

17 তাই যিহোশূয় যাজকদের আদেশ দিলেন, “আপনারা জর্ডন নদী থেকে উঠে আসুন।”

And Joshua commands the priests, saying, “Come up out of the Jordan.”

18 তখন যাজকেরা সদাপ্রভুর নিয়ম-সিন্দুক বহন করে নদী থেকে উপরে উঠে এলেন। তাঁরা শুকনো ভূমিতে পা রাখামাত্র, জর্ডন নদীর জলরাশি স্বস্থানে ফিরে গেল এবং আগের মতোই সমস্ত তীরের উপরে প্লাবিত হল।

And it comes to pass, in the coming up of the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant of YHWH out of the midst of the Jordan—the soles of the feet of the priests have been drawn up into the dry ground—and the waters of the Jordan return to their place, and go over all its banks as before.

19 প্রথম মাসের দশম দিনে, লোকেরা জর্ডন নদী পার হয়ে যিরীহোর পূর্ব সীমায় গিল্‌গলে শিবির স্থাপন করল।

And the people have come up out of the Jordan on the tenth of the first month, and encamp in Gilgal, in the extremity east of Jericho;

20 আর যিহোশূয় জর্ডন নদী থেকে তুলে আনা সেই বারোটি পাথর গিল্‌গলে স্থাপন করলেন।

and these twelve stones, which they have taken out of the Jordan, Joshua has raised up in Gilgal.

21 তিনি ইস্রায়েলীদের বললেন, “ভাবীকালে যখন তোমাদের বংশধরেরা তাদের বাবাদের জিজ্ঞাসা করবে, ‘এই পাথরগুলির তাৎপর্য কী?’

And he speaks to the sons of Israel, saying, “When your sons ask their fathers hereafter, saying, What [are] these stones?

22 তাদের বোলো, ইস্রায়েল শুকনো ভূমি দিয়ে জর্ডন নদী পার হয়েছিল।

Then you have caused your sons to know, saying, Israel passed over this Jordan on dry land;

23 কারণ যতক্ষণ না তোমরা তা পার হলে, তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু তোমাদের সামনে জর্ডন নদী শুকনো করে দিয়েছিলেন। তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু জর্ডন নদীর প্রতি তাই করেছেন, যা তিনি লোহিত সাগরের প্রতি করেছিলেন, তিনি তা শুকনো করে দিয়েছিলেন, যতক্ষণ না আমরা তা অতিক্রম করলাম।

because your God YHWH dried up the waters of the Jordan at your presence, until your passing over, as your God YHWH did to the Red Sea which He dried up at our presence until our passing over;

24 তিনি এরকম এই কারণে করলেন, যেন পৃথিবীর সমস্ত মানুষ জানতে পারে যে, সদাপ্রভুর হাত পরাক্রমশালী এবং তোমরা যেন সবসময়ই তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় করো।”

so that all the people of the land know the hand of YHWH—that it [is] strong, so that you have feared your God YHWH [for] all the days.”
