যিহোশূয়ের বই 24

1 পরে যিহোশূয় ইস্রায়েলের সমস্ত গোষ্ঠীকে শিখিমে একত্রিত করলেন। তিনি ইস্রায়েলের প্রাচীনদের, নেতাদের, বিচারকদের ও কর্মকর্তাদের ডেকে পাঠালেন ও তাঁরা সকলে নিজেদের ঈশ্বরের সামনে উপস্থিত করলেন।

Then Joshua assembled all the tribes of Israel at Shechem. He summoned the elders, leaders, judges, and officers of Israel, and they presented themselves before God.

2 যিহোশূয় সমস্ত লোককে বললেন, “ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: ‘বহুপূর্বে তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষেরা এবং অব্রাহামের ও নাহোরের বাবা তেরহও ইউফ্রেটিস নদীর অপর পারে বসবাস করতেন ও বিভিন্ন দেবদেবীর পুজো করতেন।

And Joshua said to all the people, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Long ago your fathers, including Terah the father of Abraham and Nahor, lived beyond the Euphrates and worshiped other gods.

3 কিন্তু আমি তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষ অব্রাহামকে সেই নদীর ওপার থেকে নিয়ে এসে সমস্ত কনান দেশে চালিত করলাম ও তাঁকে বহু বংশধর দিলাম। আমি তাকে দিলাম ইস্‌হাককে,

But I took your father Abraham from beyond the Euphrates and led him through all the land of Canaan, and I multiplied his descendants. I gave him Isaac,

4 আবার ইস্‌হাককে দিলাম যাকোব ও এষৌকে। আমি সেয়ীরের পার্বত্য প্রদেশ এষৌকে দিলাম, কিন্তু যাকোব ও তার ছেলেরা মিশরে নেমে গেল।

and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. I gave Esau Mount Seir to possess, but Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.

5 “‘পরে আমি মোশি ও হারোণকে পাঠালাম, ও আমি সেখানে যে কাজ করলাম, তার দ্বারা মিশরীয়দের ক্লেশ দিলাম ও আমি তোমাদের বের করে আনলাম।

Then I sent Moses and Aaron, and I afflicted the Egyptians by what I did there, and afterward I brought you out.

6 তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের আমি যখন মিশর থেকে বের করে আনলাম, তোমরা সমুদ্রের কাছে এলে এবং মিশরীয়রা বহু রথ ও অশ্বারোহী নিয়ে লোহিত সাগর পর্যন্ত তাদের পশ্চাদ্ধাবন করে এল।

When I brought your fathers out of Egypt and you reached the Red Sea, the Egyptians pursued them with chariots and horsemen as far as the Red Sea.

7 কিন্তু ইস্রায়েলীরা সাহায্যের জন্য সদাপ্রভুর কাছে কাঁদল এবং সদাপ্রভু তোমাদের ও মিশরীয়দের মধ্যে অন্ধকার নিয়ে এলেন; তিনি সমুদ্রকে তাদের উপরে নিয়ে এসে তাদের জলে আবৃত করলেন। মিশরীয়দের প্রতি আমি কী করেছিলাম, তা তোমরা নিজেদের চোখে দেখেছ। পরে দীর্ঘ সময় তোমরা মরুপ্রান্তরে বসবাস করলে।

So your fathers cried out to the LORD, and He put darkness between you and the Egyptians, over whom He brought the sea and engulfed them. Your very eyes saw what I did to the Egyptians. Then you lived in the wilderness for a long time.

8 “‘আমি তোমাদের সেই ইমোরীয়দের দেশে নিয়ে এলাম, যারা জর্ডন নদীর পূর্বদিকে বসবাস করত। তারা তোমাদের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করলে আমি তাদের তোমাদের হাতে সমর্পণ করলাম। আমি তোমাদের সামনে থেকে তাদের ধ্বংস করলাম এবং তোমরা তখন তাদের দেশের দখল নিলে।

Later, I brought you to the land of the Amorites who lived beyond the Jordan. They fought against you, but I delivered them into your hand, that you should possess their land when I destroyed them before you.

9 যখন সিপ্পোরের ছেলে মোয়াবের রাজা বালাক ইস্রায়েলের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করার জন্য প্রস্তুত হল, সে বিয়োরের ছেলে বিলিয়মকে পাঠাল, যেন সে তোমাদের অভিশাপ দেয়।

Then Balak son of Zippor, the king of Moab, set out to fight against Israel. He sent for Balaam son of Beor to curse you,

10 কিন্তু আমি বিলিয়মের কথা শুনলাম না। তাই সে বারবার তোমাদের আশীর্বাদ দিল এবং আমি বালাকের হাত থেকে তোমাদের উদ্ধার করলাম।

but I would not listen to Balaam. So he blessed you again and again, and I delivered you from his hand.

11 “‘পরে তোমরা জর্ডন নদী অতিক্রম করে যিরীহোতে এলে। যিরীহোর লোকেরা তোমাদের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করল, যেমন করল ইমোরীয়, পরিষীয়, কনানীয়, হিত্তীয়, গির্গাশীয়, হিব্বীয় ও যিবূষীয়েরা, কিন্তু তাদের আমি তোমাদের হাতে সমর্পণ করলাম।

After this, you crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho. The people of Jericho fought against you, as did the Amorites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and I delivered them into your hand.

12 আমি তোমাদের আগে আগে ভিমরুল পাঠালাম, যারা তোমাদের সামনে থেকে তাদের তাড়িয়ে দিল—সেই সঙ্গে ইমোরীয়দের দুই রাজাকেও তাড়ালো। তোমরা নিজেদের তরোয়াল ও তিরধনুক নিয়ে তা করোনি।

I sent the hornet ahead of you, and it drove out the two Amorite kings before you, but not by your own sword or bow.

13 তাই আমি তোমাদের এমন এক দেশ দিলাম, যার জন্য তোমরা পরিশ্রম করোনি এবং এমন সব নগর দিলাম, যেগুলি তোমরা নির্মাণ করোনি; তোমরা সেগুলিতে বসবাস করছ এবং যে দ্রাক্ষালতা ও জলপাই গাছ তোমরা রোপণ করোনি, তার ফল তোমরা ভোগ করছ।’

So I gave you a land on which you did not toil and cities that you did not build, and now you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.’

14 “এখন তোমরা সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় করো এবং সম্পূর্ণ বিশ্বস্ততার সঙ্গে তাঁর সেবা করো। ইউফ্রেটিস নদীর ওপারে এবং মিশরে তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষেরা যেসব দেবদেবীর আরাধনা করতেন, সেগুলি তোমরা ছুঁড়ে ফেলে দাও ও সদাপ্রভুর সেবা করো।

Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in sincerity and truth; cast aside the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.

15 কিন্তু যদি সদাপ্রভুর সেবা করতে তোমরা অনিচ্ছুক হও, তবে আজই তোমরা বেছে নাও কার সেবা করবে, তা সে ইউফ্রেটিস নদীর অপর পারে তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষেরা যেসব দেবদেবীর সেবা করত তাদের, না সেই ইমোরীয়দের সব দেবদেবীর, যাদের দেশে তোমরা বসবাস করছ, তাদের। কিন্তু আমি ও আমার পরিজন, আমরা সকলে সদাপ্রভুর সেবা করব।”

But if it is unpleasing in your sight to serve the LORD, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!”

16 তখন লোকেরা উত্তর দিল, “আমরা সদাপ্রভুকে পরিত্যাগ করে অন্যান্য দেবদেবীর সেবা করব, তা যেন কখনও না হয়!

The people replied, “Far be it from us to forsake the LORD to serve other gods!

17 আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু স্বয়ং আমাদের ও আমাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের মিশর থেকে, সেই ক্রীতদাসত্বের দেশ থেকে মুক্ত করে এনেছিলেন এবং আমাদের চোখের সামনে ওইসব মহৎ চিহ্নকাজ সম্পন্ন করেছিলেন। আমাদের সমস্ত যাত্রাপথে ও যে সমস্ত জাতির মধ্যে দিয়ে আমরা পথ অতিক্রম করেছিলাম, তিনি আমাদের সুরক্ষা দিয়েছিলেন।

For the LORD our God brought us and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and performed these great signs before our eyes. He also protected us throughout our journey and among all the nations through which we traveled.

18 আর সদাপ্রভু আমাদের সামনে থেকে সব জাতিকে বিতাড়িত করলেন, ইমোরীয়দেরও করলেন, যারা এই দেশে বসবাস করত। আমরাও সদাপ্রভুর সেবা করব, কারণ তিনি আমাদের ঈশ্বর।”

And the LORD drove out before us all the nations, including the Amorites who lived in the land. We too will serve the LORD, because He is our God!”

19 যিহোশূয় লোকদের বললেন, “তোমরা সদাপ্রভুর সেবা করতে পারবে না। তিনি পবিত্র ঈশ্বর; তিনি ঈর্ষাপরায়ণ ঈশ্বর। তিনি তোমাদের বিদ্রোহ ও পাপ ক্ষমা করবেন না।

But Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the LORD, for He is a holy God; He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your rebellion or your sins.

20 তোমরা যদি সদাপ্রভুকে পরিত্যাগ করো ও বিজাতীয় দেবদেবীর সেবা করো, তিনি আগে তোমাদের মঙ্গলসাধন করলেও, পরে তোমাদের প্রতি বিমুখ হয়ে তোমাদের উপরে বিপর্যয় নিয়ে আসবেন ও তোমাদের সংহার করবেন।”

If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, He will turn and bring disaster on you and consume you, even after He has been good to you.”

21 কিন্তু লোকেরা যিহোশূয়কে বলল, “না! আমরা সদাপ্রভুরই সেবা করব।”

“No!” replied the people. “We will serve the LORD!”

22 তখন যিহোশূয় বললেন, “তোমরা নিজেদেরই বিপক্ষে নিজেরা সাক্ষী যে, তোমরা সদাপ্রভুকে সেবা করা মনোনীত করেছ।” “হ্যাঁ, আমরা সাক্ষী,” তারা উত্তর দিল।

Then Joshua told them, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen to serve the LORD.” “We are witnesses!” they said.

23 যিহোশূয় বললেন, “তবে এখন তোমাদের মধ্যে যেসব বিজাতীয় দেবদেবীর মূর্তি আছে সেগুলি ছুঁড়ে ফেলো এবং তোমাদের হৃদয়, ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর কাছে সমর্পণ করো।”

“Now, therefore,” he said, “get rid of the foreign gods among you and incline your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel.”

24 আর লোকেরা যিহোশূয়কে বলল, “আমরা আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর সেবা করব ও তাঁর আদেশ পালন করব।”

So the people said to Joshua, “We will serve the LORD our God and obey His voice.”

25 সেদিন যিহোশূয় লোকদের জন্য একটি নিয়ম স্থির করলেন, ও সেখানে, ওই শিখিমে তিনি লোকদের পালন করার জন্য বিধিনিয়ম ও বিধান পুনঃস্থাপন করলেন।

On that day Joshua made a covenant for the people, and there at Shechem he established for them a statute and ordinance.

26 আর যিহোশূয় এসব বিষয় ঈশ্বরের বিধানপুস্তকে নথিভুক্ত করলেন। পরে তিনি এক বিশাল বড়ো পাথর নিয়ে, সদাপ্রভুর পবিত্রস্থানের কাছে একটি ওক গাছের নিচে রেখে দিলেন।

Joshua recorded these things in the Book of the Law of God. Then he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak that was near the sanctuary of the LORD.

27 তিনি সমস্ত লোককে বললেন, “দেখো, এই পাথরটি আমাদের বিপক্ষে সাক্ষ্য দেবে। সদাপ্রভু যেসব কথা আমাদের বলেছেন, সেগুলি এটি শুনেছে। তোমরা যদি তোমাদের ঈশ্বরকে দেওয়া কথা থেকে পিছিয়ে যাও, তবে এই পাথরটি তোমাদের বিরুদ্ধে সাক্ষ্য দেবে।”

And Joshua said to all the people, “You see this stone. It will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words the LORD has spoken to us, and it will be a witness against you if you ever deny your God.”

28 পরে যিহোশূয় তাদের নিজের নিজের অধিকারে যাওয়ার জন্য বিদায় দিলেন।

Then Joshua sent the people away, each to his own inheritance.

29 এসব ঘটনার পরে, সদাপ্রভুর দাস, নূনের ছেলে যিহোশূয়, 110 বছর বয়সে মারা গেলেন।

Some time later, Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110.

30 লোকেরা তাঁকে তাঁর নিজের অধিকারের দেশে, গাশ পর্বতের উত্তর দিকে, ইফ্রয়িমের পাহাড়ি অঞ্চলে, তিম্নৎ-সেরহে কবর দিল।

And they buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath-serah in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.

31 ইস্রায়েল যিহোশূয়ের জীবনকালে ও সেইসব প্রাচীনের জীবনকালে আগাগোড়াই সদাপ্রভুর সেবা করল, যারা যিহোশূয়ের মৃত্যুর পরও জীবিত ছিলেন ও ইস্রায়েলের জন্য সদাপ্রভু যেসব মহান কাজ করেছিলেন, সেগুলি সব প্রত্যক্ষ করেছিলেন।

Israel had served the LORD throughout the days of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had experienced all the works that the LORD had done for Israel.

32 আর যোষেফের অস্থি, যেগুলি ইস্রায়েলীরা মিশর থেকে নিয়ে এসেছিল, তা লোকেরা শিখিমে সেই জমিখণ্ডে কবর দিল, যা যাকোব শিখিমের বাবা হমোরের ছেলেদের কাছ থেকে একশো রৌপ্যমুদ্রা দিয়ে কিনেছিলেন। এটি যোষেফের বংশধরদের অধিকার হয়ে রইল।

And the bones of Joseph, which the Israelites had brought up out of Egypt, were buried at Shechem in the plot of land that Jacob had purchased from the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for a hundred pieces of silver. So it became an inheritance for Joseph’s descendants.

33 আর হারোণের ছেলে ইলীয়াসরেরও মৃত্যু হল ও তাঁকে গিবিয়াতে কবর দেওয়া হল। এই স্থানটি ইফ্রয়িমের পার্বত্য প্রদেশে, তাঁর ছেলে পীনহসকে দেওয়া হয়েছিল।

Eleazar son of Aaron also died, and they buried him at Gibeah, which had been given to his son Phinehas in the hill country of Ephraim.
