যোনা ভাববাদীর বই 1
1 সদাপ্রভুর বাণী অমিত্তয়ের পুত্র যোনার কাছে এসে উপস্থিত হল:
And there is a word of YHWH to Jonah son of Amittai, saying,
2 “ওঠো ও নীনবী মহানগরে যাও এবং তাদের বিরুদ্ধে প্রচার করো, কারণ তাদের দুষ্টতার কথা আমার কান পর্যন্ত পৌঁছেছে।”
“Rise, go to Nineveh, the great city, and proclaim against it that their wickedness has come up before Me.”
3 কিন্তু যোনা সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকে পালিয়ে গেলেন এবং তর্শীশের পথ ধরলেন। তিনি জোপ্পা বন্দর-নগরে গেলেন এবং সেখান থেকে তর্শীশে যাবে, এমন একটি জাহাজের সন্ধান পেলেন। তিনি জাহাজের ভাড়া দিয়ে তাতে চড়লেন এবং সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকে পালিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য তর্শীশের পথে সমুদ্রযাত্রা করলেন।
And Jonah rises to flee to Tarshish from the face of YHWH, and goes down [to] Joppa, and finds a ship going [to] Tarshish, and he gives its fare, and goes down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the face of YHWH.
4 তারপর সদাপ্রভু সমুদ্রে এক প্রচণ্ড বাতাস পাঠালেন, এমনই প্রবল এক ঝড় উঠল যে, জাহাজ ভেঙে যাওয়ার উপক্রম হল।
And YHWH has cast a great wind on the sea, and there is a great storm in the sea, and the ship has reckoned to be broken;
5 সমস্ত নাবিক ভয়ভীত হয়ে উঠল ও নিজের নিজের দেবতার কাছে কাঁদতে লাগল। এবং জাহাজ হালকা করার জন্য তারা জাহাজের মালপত্র সমুদ্রে ফেলে দিল। কিন্তু যোনা জাহাজের খোলে নেমে গেলেন। সেখানে শুয়ে পড়ে তিনি গভীর ঘুমে আচ্ছন্ন হলেন।
and the mariners are afraid, and they each cry to his god, and cast the goods that [are] in the ship into the sea, to make [it] light of them; and Jonah has gone down to the sides of the vessel, and he lies down, and is fast asleep.
6 তখন নাবিকদের কর্মকর্তা তার কাছে গিয়ে বললেন, “ওহে, তুমি কি করে ঘুমিয়ে আছ? উঠে পড়ো ও তোমার দেবতাকে ডাকো! হয়তো তিনি আমাদের প্রতি দৃষ্টি দেবেন এবং আমরা ধ্বংস হব না।”
And the chief of the company draws near to him and says to him, “What are you [doing], O sleeper? Rise, call to your God, it may be God considers Himself of us, and we do not perish.”
7 এরপর নাবিকেরা পরস্পরকে বলল, “এসো, আমরা গুটিকাপাত করে দেখি, এই দুর্যোগের জন্য আমাদের মধ্যে কে দায়ী।” তারা যখন গুটিকাপাত করল, যোনার নামে গুটি উঠল।
And they each say to his neighbor, “Come, and we cast lots, and we know on whose account this evil [is] on us.” And they cast lots, and the lot falls on Jonah.
8 তাই তারা তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “আমাদের বলো, আমাদের উপর এই সমস্ত সংকট আনার জন্য কে দায়ী? তুমি কী করো? তুমি এসেছই বা কোথা থেকে? তোমার দেশের নাম কী? তোমার জাতি কী?”
And they say to him, “Now declare to us, on whose account [is] this evil on us? What [is] your occupation, and where do you come from? What [is] your country, seeing you are not of this people?”
9 যোনা উত্তর দিলেন, “আমি একজন হিব্রু এবং আমি সদাপ্রভুর উপাসনা করি। তিনি স্বর্গের ঈশ্বর, যিনি সমুদ্র ও ভূমি নির্মাণ করেছেন।”
And he says to them, “I—a Hebrew, and I fear YHWH, God of the heavens, who made the sea and the dry land.”
10 এতে তারা আতঙ্কগ্রস্ত হল ও জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “তুমি কী করেছ?” কারণ তারা জানতে পেরেছিল যে তিনি সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকে পালিয়ে যাচ্ছেন এবং যোনা ইতিমধ্যে সেকথা তাদের বলেছিলেন।
And the men fear a great fear, and say to him, “What [is] this you have done!” For the men have known that he is fleeing from the face of YHWH, for he has told them.
11 সমুদ্র ক্রমেই উত্তাল ও বিক্ষুব্ধ হয়ে উঠছিল। তাই, তারা তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “সমুদ্রকে শান্ত করার জন্য তোমার প্রতি আমাদের কী করা উচিত?”
And they say to him, “What do we do to you that the sea may cease from us, for the sea is more and more turbulent?”
12 তিনি উত্তর দিলেন, “আমাকে তুলে তোমরা সমুদ্রে ফেলে দাও। তখন তা শান্ত হয়ে যাবে। আমি জানি যে, আমার দোষের জন্যই এই মহা ঝড় তোমাদের উপরে এসে পড়েছে।”
And he says to them, “Lift me up, and cast me into the sea, and the sea ceases from you; for I know that on my account this great storm [is] on you.”
13 তা না করে সেই লোকেরা প্রাণপণ চেষ্টা করল, যেন তারা জাহাজটিকে ডাঙায় নিয়ে যেতে পারে। কিন্তু তারা পেরে উঠল না, বরং সমুদ্র আগের থেকেও বেশি বিক্ষুব্ধ হয়ে উঠল।
And the men row to turn back to the dry land, and are not able, for the sea is more and more turbulent against them.
14 তারা তখন সদাপ্রভুর কাছে কাঁদতে লাগল আর বলল, “হে সদাপ্রভু, এই লোকটির প্রাণ নেওয়ার জন্য তুমি আমাদের মরতে দিয়ো না। এক নির্দোষ মানুষকে হত্যা করার জন্য আমাদের দোষী সাব্যস্ত কোরো না। কারণ হে সদাপ্রভু, তোমার যেমন ইচ্ছা, তুমি তেমনই করেছ।”
And they cry to YHWH, and say, “Ah, now, O YHWH, please do not let us perish for this man’s life, and do not lay innocent blood on us! For You, YHWH, as You have pleased, You have done.”
15 তারপর তারা যোনাকে ধরে সমুদ্রে ফেলে দিল; এতে উত্তাল সমুদ্র শান্ত হল।
And they lift up Jonah, and cast him into the sea, and the sea ceases from its raging;
16 এর ফলে জাহাজের লোকেরা সদাপ্রভুকে অত্যন্ত ভয় করল এবং তারা সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশে বলি উৎসর্গ ও বিভিন্ন প্রকার মানত করল।
and the men fear YHWH [with] a great fear, and sacrifice a sacrifice to YHWH, and vow vows.
17 এদিকে সদাপ্রভু যোনাকে গিলে ফেলার জন্য একটি বিশাল মাছ পাঠালেন এবং যোনা তিন দিন ও তিনরাত সেই মাছের পেটে রইলেন।
And YHWH appoints a great fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah is in the bowels of the fish three days and three nights.
