যোহন 1
1 আদিতে বাক্য ছিলেন, সেই বাক্য ঈশ্বরের সঙ্গে ছিলেন এবং বাক্যই ঈশ্বর ছিলেন।
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 আদিতে তিনি ঈশ্বরের সঙ্গে ছিলেন।
He was in the beginning with God.
3 তাঁর মাধ্যমে সবকিছু সৃষ্ট হয়েছিল; সৃষ্ট কোনো বস্তুই তিনি ব্যতিরেকে সৃষ্ট হয়নি।
All things were made through him, and nothing that was made was made without him.
4 তাঁর মধ্যে জীবন ছিল। সেই জীবন ছিল মানবজাতির জ্যোতি।
In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 সেই জ্যোতি অন্ধকারে আলো বিকিরণ করে, কিন্তু অন্ধকার তা উপলব্ধি করতে পারেনি।
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 ঈশ্বর থেকে প্রেরিত এক ব্যক্তির আবির্ভাব হল, তাঁর নাম যোহন।
There came a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 সেই জ্যোতির সাক্ষ্য দিতেই সাক্ষীরূপে তাঁর আগমন ঘটেছিল, যেন তাঁর মাধ্যমে মানুষ বিশ্বাস করে।
He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him.
8 তিনি স্বয়ং সেই জ্যোতি ছিলেন না, কিন্তু সেই জ্যোতির সাক্ষ্য দিতেই তাঁর আবির্ভাব হয়েছিল।
He himself was not the light, but he came to testify about the light.
9 সেই প্রকৃত জ্যোতি, যিনি প্রত্যেক মানুষকে আলো দান করেন, জগতে তাঁর আবির্ভাব হচ্ছিল।
The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
10 তিনি জগতে ছিলেন, জগৎ তাঁর দ্বারা সৃষ্ট হলেও জগৎ তাঁকে চিনল না।
He was in the world, and the world was made through him, but the world did not know him.
11 তিনি তাঁর আপনজনদের মধ্যে এলেন, কিন্তু যারা তাঁর আপন, তারা তাঁকে গ্রহণ করল না।
He came to his own, but his own people did not receive him.
12 তবু যতজন তাঁকে গ্রহণ করল, যারা তাঁর নামে বিশ্বাস করল, তাদের তিনি ঈশ্বরের সন্তান হওয়ার অধিকার দিলেন।
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
13 তারা স্বাভাবিকভাবে জাত নয়, মানবিক ইচ্ছা বা পুরুষের ইচ্ছায় নয়, কিন্তু ঈশ্বর থেকে জাত।
who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 সেই বাক্য দেহ ধারণ করলেন এবং আমাদেরই মধ্যে বসবাস করলেন। আমরা তাঁর মহিমা দেখেছি, ঠিক যেমন পিতার নিকট থেকে আগত এক ও অদ্বিতীয় পুত্রের মহিমা। তিনি অনুগ্রহ ও সত্যে পূর্ণ।
The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 যোহন তাঁর বিষয়ে সাক্ষ্য দিলেন। তিনি উচ্চকণ্ঠে ঘোষণা করলেন, “ইনিই সেই ব্যক্তি যাঁর সম্পর্কে আমি বলেছিলাম, ‘আমার পরে যিনি আসছেন তিনি আমার অগ্রগণ্য, কারণ আমার আগে থেকেই তিনি বিদ্যমান।’”
John testified about him and cried out, “This is he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me.’”
16 তাঁর অনুগ্রহের পূর্ণতা থেকে আমরা সকলেই একের পর এক আশীর্বাদ লাভ করেছি।
Of his fullness we have all received, even grace upon grace.
17 মোশির মাধ্যমে বিধান দেওয়া হয়েছিল; যীশু খ্রীষ্টের মাধ্যমে অনুগ্রহ ও সত্য উপস্থিত হয়েছে।
For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 ঈশ্বরকে কেউ কোনোদিন দেখেনি; কিন্তু এক ও অদ্বিতীয় ঈশ্বর, যিনি পিতার পাশে বিরাজ করেন, তিনিই তাঁকে প্রকাশ করেছেন।
No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.
19 জেরুশালেমে ইহুদিরা যখন কয়েকজন যাজক ও লেবীয়কে পাঠিয়ে তাঁর পরিচয় জানতে চাইল, তখন যোহন এভাবে সাক্ষ্য দিলেন।
This was the testimony of John when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are yoʋ?”
20 তিনি স্বীকার করতে দ্বিধাবোধ করলেন না বরং মুক্তকণ্ঠে স্বীকার করলেন, “আমি সেই খ্রীষ্ট নই।”
He did not refuse to answer, but openly declared, “I am not the Christ.”
21 তারা তাঁকে প্রশ্ন করল, “তাহলে আপনি কে? আপনি কি এলিয়?” তিনি বললেন, “না, আমি নই।” “আপনি কি সেই ভাববাদী?” তিনি বললেন, “না।”
So they asked him, “What then? Are yoʋ Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are yoʋ the Prophet?” He answered, “No.”
22 শেষে তারা বলল, “তাহলে, কে আপনি? আমাদের বলুন। যারা আমাদের পাঠিয়েছেন, তাদের কাছে উত্তর নিয়ে যেতে হবে। নিজের সম্পর্কে আপনার অভিমত কী?”
So they said to him, “Who are yoʋ? Tell us so that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do yoʋ say about yoʋrself?”
23 ভাববাদী যিশাইয়ের ভাষায় যোহন উত্তর দিলেন, “আমি মরুপ্রান্তরে এক কণ্ঠস্বর যা আহ্বান করছে, ‘তোমরা প্রভুর জন্য রাজপথগুলি সরল করো।’”
He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”
24 তখন ফরিশীদের প্রেরিত কয়েকজন লোক
(Now those who had been sent were from the Pharisees.)
25 তাঁকে প্রশ্ন করল, “আপনি যদি খ্রীষ্ট, এলিয়, বা সেই ভাববাদী না হন, তাহলে বাপ্তিষ্ম দিচ্ছেন কেন?”
Then they asked him, “Why then do yoʋ baptize if yoʋ are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
26 যোহন উত্তর দিলেন, “আমি তোমাদের জলে বাপ্তিষ্ম দিচ্ছি ঠিকই, কিন্তু তোমাদেরই মধ্যে এমন একজন দাঁড়িয়ে আছেন, যাঁকে তোমরা জানো না।
John answered them, “I baptize with water, but among you stands someone you do not know.
27 তিনি আমার পরে আসছেন। তাঁর চটিজুতোর বাঁধন খোলারও যোগ্যতা আমার নেই।”
He is the one who comes after me, who ranks ahead of me, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”
28 এই সমস্ত ঘটল জর্ডন নদীর অপর পারে বেথানিতে, যেখানে যোহন লোকেদের বাপ্তিষ্ম দিচ্ছিলেন।
These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 পরের দিন যোহন যীশুকে তাঁর দিকে এগিয়ে আসতে দেখে বললেন, “ওই দেখো ঈশ্বরের মেষশাবক, যিনি জগতের সমস্ত পাপ দূর করেন।
On the next day John saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
30 ইনিই সেই ব্যক্তি, যাঁর সম্পর্কে আমি বলেছিলাম ‘আমার পরে যিনি আসছেন তিনি আমার চেয়েও মহান, কারণ আমার আগে থেকেই তিনি বিদ্যমান আছেন।’
This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me.’
31 আমি নিজে তাঁকে জানতাম না, কিন্তু তিনি যেন ইস্রায়েলের কাছে প্রকাশিত হন সেজন্যই আমি জলে বাপ্তিষ্ম দিতে এসেছি।”
I myself did not know him, but I came baptizing with water so that he might be revealed to Israel.”
32 তারপর যোহন এই সাক্ষ্য দিলেন: “আমি পবিত্র আত্মাকে কপোতের মতো স্বর্গ থেকে নেমে আসতে দেখলাম, তিনি তাঁর উপরে অধিষ্ঠান করলেন।
Then John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained upon him.
33 আমি তাঁকে চিনতাম না কিন্তু যিনি আমাকে জলে বাপ্তিষ্ম দিতে পাঠিয়েছেন তিনি বলেছিলেন, ‘আত্মাকে যাঁর উপরে নেমে এসে অধিষ্ঠান করতে দেখবে তিনিই পবিত্র আত্মায় বাপ্তিষ্ম দেবেন।’
I myself did not recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He upon whom yoʋ see the Spirit descend and remain is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
34 আমি দেখেছি ও সাক্ষ্য দিচ্ছি যে, ইনিই ঈশ্বরের পুত্র।”
And I have seen it and can testify that this is the Son of God.”
35 পরের দিন যোহন তাঁর দুজন শিষ্যের সঙ্গে আবার সেখানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
On the next day John was again standing with two of his disciples.
36 সেখান দিয়ে যীশুকে যেতে দেখে তিনি বললেন, “ওই দেখো ঈশ্বরের মেষশাবক।”
As Jesus walked by, John looked at him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God.”
37 তাঁর একথা শুনে শিষ্য দুজন যীশুকে অনুসরণ করলেন।
When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.
38 তাঁদের অনুসরণ করতে দেখে যীশু ঘুরে তাকিয়ে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তোমরা কী চাও?” তাঁরা বললেন, “রব্বি, (এর অর্থ, গুরুমহাশয়) আপনি কোথায় থাকেন?”
Turning around, Jesus saw them following him and said to them, “What are you seeking?” They said to him, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are yoʋ staying?”
39 “এসো,” তিনি উত্তর দিলেন, “আর তোমরা দেখতে পাবে।” অতএব, তাঁরা গিয়ে দেখলেন তিনি কোথায় থাকেন এবং তাঁরা সেদিন তাঁর সঙ্গেই থাকলেন। তখন সময় ছিল বেলা প্রায় চারটা।
He said to them, “Come and see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and stayed with him that day; it was about the tenth hour.
40 যোহনের কথা শুনে যে দুজন যীশুকে অনুসরণ করেছিলেন, শিমোন পিতরের ভাই আন্দ্রিয় ছিলেন তাদের অন্যতম।
Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard this from John and followed Jesus.
41 আন্দ্রিয় প্রথমে তাঁর ভাই শিমোনের খোঁজ করলেন এবং তাঁকে বললেন, “আমরা মশীহের (অর্থাৎ খ্রীষ্টের) সন্ধান পেয়েছি।”
Andrew first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means “Christ”),
42 তিনি তাঁকে যীশুর কাছে নিয়ে এলেন। যীশু তাঁর দিকে তাকিয়ে বললেন, “তুমি যোহনের পুত্র শিমোন। তোমাকে কৈফা বলে ডাকা হবে।” (যার অনূদিত অর্থ, পিতর)।
and he brought Simon to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “Yoʋ are Simon the son of Jonah; yoʋ shall be called Cephas” (which means “Peter”).
43 পরের দিন যীশু গালীলের উদ্দেশে যাত্রার সিদ্ধান্ত নিলেন। ফিলিপকে দেখতে পেয়ে তিনি বললেন, “আমাকে অনুসরণ করো।”
On the next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.”
44 আন্দ্রিয় ও পিতরের মতো ফিলিপও ছিলেন বেথসৈদা নগরের অধিবাসী।
(Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.)
45 ফিলিপ নথনেলকে দেখতে পেয়ে বললেন, “মোশি তার বিধানপুস্তকে ও ভাববাদীরাও যাঁর বিষয়ে লিখেছেন, আমরা তাঁর সন্ধান পেয়েছি। তিনি নাসরতের যীশু, যোষেফের পুত্র।”
Philip then found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses wrote in the law, and of whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
46 নথনেল জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “নাসরৎ থেকে কি ভালো কিছু আসতে পারে?” ফিলিপ বললেন, “এসে দেখে যাও।”
Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
47 যীশু নথনেলকে আসতে দেখে তাঁর সম্পর্কে বললেন, “ওই দেখো একজন প্রকৃত ইস্রায়েলী, যার মধ্যে কোনও ছলনা নেই।”
When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit.”
48 নথনেল জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আপনি কী করে আমাকে চিনলেন।” যীশু বললেন, “ফিলিপ তোমাকে ডাকার আগে তুমি যখন ডুমুর গাছের নিচে ছিলে, তখনই আমি তোমাকে দেখেছিলাম।”
Nathanael said to him, “How do yoʋ know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called yoʋ, when yoʋ were under the fig tree, I saw yoʋ.”
49 তখন নথনেল বললেন, “রব্বি, আপনিই ঈশ্বরের পুত্র, আপনিই ইস্রায়েলের রাজা।”
Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, yoʋ are the Son of God! Yoʋ are the king of Israel!”
50 যীশু বললেন, “তোমাকে ডুমুর গাছের তলায় দেখেছি একথা বলার জন্য কি তুমি বিশ্বাস করলে! তুমি এর চেয়েও অনেক মহৎ বিষয় দেখতে পাবে।”
Jesus answered him, “Do yoʋ believe because I said to yoʋ, ‘I saw yoʋ under the fig tree’? Yoʋ will see greater things than these.”
51 তিনি আরও বললেন, “আমি তোমাকে সত্যি বলছি, তুমি দেখবে স্বর্গলোক উন্মুক্ত হয়েছে, আর ঈশ্বরের দূতেরা মনুষ্যপুত্রের উপর ওঠানামা করছেন।”
Then he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before long you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
