যোহন 5

1 যীশু কিছুদিন পর ইহুদিদের একটি পর্ব উপলক্ষে জেরুশালেমে গেলেন।

After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

2 সেখানে মেষদ্বারের কাছে একটি সরোবর আছে। অরামীয় ভাষায় একে বলা হয় বেথেসদা। পাঁচটি আচ্ছাদিত ঘাট সরোবরটিকে ঘিরে রেখেছিল।

Now there is at Jerusalem near the sheep-market a pool, called in Hebrew Bethesda, with five porticos about it.

3 সেখানে বহু প্রতিবন্ধী—অন্ধ, খোঁড়া, পক্ষাঘাতগ্রস্ত লোকেরা শুয়ে থাকত।

In these lay a great number of people that were infirm, blind, lame, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

4 সময়ে সময়ে প্রভুর এক দূত সেখানে নেমে আসতেন এবং জল কাঁপাতেন। সেই সময় প্রথম যে ব্যক্তি প্রথমে সরোবরের জলে নামত, সে যে কোনো রকমের রোগ থেকে মুক্ত হত।

For an angel descended at a certain season into the pool, and moved the water; the first therefore that went in after the disturbing of the water, was cured of whatever malady he laboured under.

5 সেখানে আটত্রিশ বছরের এক পঙ্গু ব্যক্তি ছিল।

And there was a man who had been under illness thirty eight years.

6 যীশু তাকে সেখানে শুয়ে থাকতে দেখে এবং দীর্ঘদিন ধরেই তার এরকম অবস্থা জেনে তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তুমি কি সুস্থ হতে চাও?”

Jesus seeing him lie there, and knowing that he had been now a long time ill, saith unto him, Dost thou desire to be cured?

7 পঙ্গু লোকটি উত্তর দিল, “মহাশয়, জল কেঁপে ওঠার সময় সরোবরের জলে নামতে আমাকে সাহায্য করার মতো কেউ নেই। আমি জলে নামার চেষ্টা করতে করতেই অন্য কেউ আমার আগে নেমে পড়ে।”

The infirm man answered Him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is moved, to put me into the pool; but while I am coming, another goes down before me.

8 যীশু তখন তাকে বললেন, “ওঠো, তোমার খাট তুলে নিয়ে চলে যাও।”

Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

9 লোকটি সঙ্গে সঙ্গে সুস্থ হয়ে গেল। সে তার খাট তুলে নিয়ে হাঁটতে লাগল। যেদিন এই ঘটনা ঘটে, সেদিন ছিল বিশ্রামদিন।

And immediately the man was cured: and he took up his bed and walked.

10 তাই, যে লোকটি রোগ থেকে সুস্থ হয়েছিল, ইহুদিরা তাকে বলল, “আজ বিশ্রামদিন। বিধান অনুসারে আজ শয্যা বয়ে নেওয়া তোমার পক্ষে অনুচিত।”

Now this was the sabbath-day, therefore the Jews said to him that was cured, It is the sabbath, it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.

11 কিন্তু সে উত্তর দিল, “যে ব্যক্তি আমাকে সুস্থ করেছেন, তিনিই আমাকে বললেন, ‘তোমার বিছানা তুলে নিয়ে চলে যাও।’”

He answered them, He, that made me well, said unto me, Take up thy bed and walk.

12 অতএব, তারা তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “যে তোমাকে বিছানা তুলে নিয়ে চলে যেতে বলেছে, সে কে?”

Therefore they asked him, Who is the man that said to thee, Take up thy bed and walk?

13 যে লোকটি সুস্থ হয়েছিল, যীশুর বিষয়ে তার কোনো ধারণাই ছিল না, কারণ যীশু সেখানে উপস্থিত সকলের মধ্যে মিশে গিয়েছিলেন।

but he, that was healed, did not know who it was: for Jesus had withdrawn himself, there being many people in the place.

14 পরে যীশু তাকে মন্দিরে দেখতে পেয়ে বললেন, “দেখো, তুমি এবার সুস্থ হয়ে উঠেছ। আর পাপ কোরো না, না হলে তোমার জীবনে এর থেকেও বেশি অমঙ্গল ঘটতে পারে।”

Afterwards Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art healed; sin no more, least something worse befal thee.

15 লোকটি ফিরে গিয়ে ইহুদিদের বলল যে, যীশু তাকে সুস্থ করেছেন।

And the man went away, and told the Jews, that it was Jesus who had healed him.

16 যীশু বিশ্রামদিনে এই সমস্ত কাজ করছিলেন বলে ইহুদিরা তাঁকে তাড়না করল এবং হত্যা করারও চেষ্টা করল।

And for this did the Jews persecute Jesus, and endeavoured to put Him to death; because He had done these things on the sabbath-day.

17 যীশু তাদের বললেন, “আমার পিতা নিরন্তর কাজ করে চলেছেন, আর আমিও কাজ করে চলেছি।”

But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh without intermission, and so do I.

18 এই কারণে ইহুদিরা তাঁকে হত্যা করার আপ্রাণ চেষ্টা করল, কারণ তিনি যে শুধু বিশ্রামদিন লঙ্ঘন করছিলেন, তা নয়, তিনি ঈশ্বরকে তাঁর পিতা বলেও সম্বোধন করে নিজেকে ঈশ্বরের সমতুল্য করেছিলেন।

For this therefore the Jews sought the more to kill Him, because He had not only broken the sabbath, but had also called God his own Father, making Himself equal with God.

19 যীশু তাদের এই উত্তর দিলেন: “আমি তোমাদের সত্যিই বলছি, পুত্র নিজে থেকে কিছুই করেন না, কিন্তু পিতাকে যা করতে দেখেন, তিনি কেবল তাই করতে পারেন, কারণ পিতা যা করেন, পুত্রও তাই করেন।

Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Verily, verily I say unto you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He seeth the Father do: for whatsoever He doth, these also the Son doth in like manner.

20 পিতা পুত্রকে প্রেম করেন এবং তিনি যা করেন, তা পুত্রকে দেখান। হ্যাঁ, তোমরা অবাক বিস্ময়ে দেখবে, তিনি এর চেয়েও মহৎ মহৎ বিষয় তাঁকে দেখাচ্ছেন।

For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth Him all things, which He Himself doth: and He will shew Him greater than these, that ye may wonder.

21 পিতা যেমন মৃতদের উত্থাপিত করে জীবন দান করেন, পুত্রও তেমনই যাকে ইচ্ছা তাকে জীবন দান করেন।

For as the Father raiseth up the dead and giveth life: even so the Son maketh alive whom He pleaseth.

22 আর পিতা কারও বিচার করেন না, কিন্তু সমস্ত বিচারের ভার পুত্রের উপর দিয়েছেন,

For neither doth the Father judge any one, but hath committed all judgement to the Son;

23 যেন তারা যেমন পিতাকে সম্মান করে, তেমনই সকলে পুত্রকেও সম্মান করে। যে ব্যক্তি পুত্রকে সম্মান করে না, সে সেই পিতাকেও সম্মান করে না, যিনি তাঁকে পাঠিয়েছেন।

that all men may honour the Son, even as they honour the Father: he, that honoureth not the Son, honoureth not the Father that sent Him.

24 “আমি তোমাদের সত্যিই বলছি, যে আমার বাক্য শোনে এবং যিনি আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন, তাঁকে বিশ্বাস করে, সে অনন্ত জীবন লাভ করেছে। সে বিচারে দোষী সাব্যস্ত হবে না, কারণ সে মৃত্যু থেকে জীবনে পার হয়েছে। (aiōnios g166)

Verily, verily I say unto you, he, that heareth my word, and believeth in Him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come under condemnation; but is passed from death to life. (aiōnios g166)

25 আমি তোমাদের সত্যিই বলছি, সময় আসছে, বরং তা এসে গেছে, যখন মৃতেরা ঈশ্বর পুত্রের রব শুনতে পাবে; আর যারা শুনবে, তারা জীবিত হবে।

Verily, verily I tell you, that the time is coming, and even now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live.

26 কারণ পিতার মধ্যে যেমন জীবন আছে, তেমনই তিনি পুত্রকেও তাঁর মধ্যে জীবন রাখার অধিকার দিয়েছেন।

For as the Father hath life in Himself, so hath He given also to the Son to have life in Himself.

27 পিতা পুত্রকে বিচার করার অধিকার দিয়েছেন, কারণ তিনি মনুষ্যপুত্র।

And hath given Him authority also to execute judgement, because He is the Son of man.

28 “তোমরা একথায় বিস্মিত হোয়ো না, কারণ এমন এক সময় আসছে, যখন কবরস্থ লোকেরা সকলে তাঁর কণ্ঠস্বর শুনবে এবং

Wonder not at this; for the time is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,

29 যারা সৎকাজ করেছে, তারা জীবনের পুনরুত্থানের জন্য, আর যারা দুষ্কর্ম করেছে, তারা বিচারের পুনরুত্থানের জন্য বের হয়ে আসবে।

and shall come forth, they that have done good to the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil to the resurrection of damnation.

30 আমি আমার ইচ্ছামতো কিছুই করতে পারি না। আমি যেমন শুনি, কেবল তেমনই বিচার করি। আর আমার বিচার ন্যায্য কারণ আমি নিজের নয়, কিন্তু যিনি আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন, তাঁরই ইচ্ছা পালনের চেষ্টা করি।

I can do nothing of my self: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father that hath sent me.

31 “আমি যদি নিজের বিষয়ে সাক্ষ্য দিই, তাহলে আমার এই সাক্ষ্য সত্য নয়।

If I alone bear witness of my self, my testimony is not true in law:

32 আর একজন আছেন, যিনি আমার পক্ষে সাক্ষ্য দেন। আমি জানি, আমার বিষয়ে তাঁর সাক্ষ্য সত্য।

but there is another who testifieth concerning me; and I know that the testimony, which he giveth concerning me, is true.

33 “তোমরা যোহনের কাছে লোক পাঠিয়েছিলে। তিনি সত্যের পক্ষেই সাক্ষ্য দিয়েছেন।

Ye your selves sent unto John, and he bore witness to the truth:

34 আমি যে মানুষের সাক্ষ্য গ্রহণ করি তা নয়, কিন্তু তোমরা যেন পরিত্রাণ লাভ করতে পারো, সেজন্য এর উল্লেখ করছি।

though I need not testimony from man; but I say these things that ye may be saved.

35 যোহন ছিলেন এক প্রদীপ যিনি জ্যোতি প্রদান করেছিলেন এবং কিছু সময় তোমরা তার জ্যোতি উপভোগ করতে চেয়েছিলে।

He was indeed a burning and shining light, and for a while ye willingly rejoiced in his light.

36 “সেই যোহনের সাক্ষ্যের চেয়েও এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সাক্ষ্য আমার আছে। পিতা আমাকে যে কাজ সম্পাদন করতে দিয়েছেন এবং যে কাজ সম্পূর্ণ করতে আমি নিয়োজিত, সেই কাজই সাক্ষ্য দিচ্ছে যে, পিতা আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন।

But I have a testimony greater than John's: for the works which the Father hath given me to perform, the very works which I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

37 পিতা, যিনি আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন, তিনি স্বয়ং আমার বিষয়ে সাক্ষ্য দিয়েছেন। তোমরা কখনও তাঁর স্বর শোনোনি, তাঁর রূপও দেখোনি।

And the Father who sent me, hath Himself borne witness of me: and yet ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.

38 তোমাদের মধ্যে তাঁর বাক্য বিরাজ করে না। কারণ তিনি যাঁকে পাঠিয়েছেন, তোমরা তাঁকে বিশ্বাস করো না।

And ye have not his word abiding in you; because ye believe not Him, whom He hath sent.

39 তোমরা মনোযোগ সহকারে শাস্ত্র পাঠ করে থাকো, কারণ তোমরা মনে করো যে, তার মাধ্যমেই তোমরা অনন্ত জীবন লাভ করেছ। সেই শাস্ত্র আমারই সম্পর্কে সাক্ষ্য দিচ্ছে। (aiōnios g166)

Ye search the scriptures; for ye think that in them ye have eternal life: (aiōnios g166)

40 তবু তোমরা জীবন পাওয়ার জন্য আমার কাছে আসতে চাও না।

and they testify of me: and yet ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.

41 “মানুষের প্রশংসা আমি গ্রহণ করি না।

Though I desire not applause from men:

42 কিন্তু আমি তোমাদের চিনি। আমি জানি, তোমাদের হৃদয়ে ঈশ্বরের প্রেম নেই।

but I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

43 আমি আমার পিতার নামে এসেছি, কিন্তু তোমরা আমাকে গ্রহণ করলে না। অন্য কেউ যদি তার নিজের নামে আসে, তোমরা তাকে গ্রহণ করবে।

I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another should come in his own name, him ye will receive.

44 তোমরা যদি পরস্পরের কাছ থেকে গৌরবলাভের জন্য সচেষ্ট হও অথচ যে গৌরব কেবলমাত্র ঈশ্বরের কাছ থেকে পাওয়া যায়, তা পাওয়ার জন্য যদি কোনো প্রয়াস না করো, তাহলে কীভাবে তোমরা বিশ্বাস করতে পারো?

How can ye believe, who receive applause from each other, and the glory which is from God only, ye seek not?

45 “তোমরা মনে কোরো না যে, পিতার সামনে আমি তোমাদের অভিযুক্ত করব। যার উপর তোমাদের প্রত্যাশা, সেই মোশিই তোমাদের অভিযুক্ত করবেন।

Think not that I shall accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.

46 তোমরা যদি মোশিকে বিশ্বাস করতে, তাহলে আমাকেও বিশ্বাস করতে, কারণ তিনি আমারই বিষয়ে লিখেছেন।

For if ye believed Moses, ye would believe me; for he wrote concerning me:

47 তার লিখিত বাণী তোমরা বিশ্বাস না করলে, আমার মুখের কথা তোমরা কীভাবে বিশ্বাস করবে?”

but if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
