1 নিস্তারপর্বের ছয় দিন আগে যীশু বেথানিতে উপস্থিত হলেন। যীশু যাকে মৃতলোক থেকে উত্থাপিত করেছিলেন, সেই লাসারের বাড়ি সেখানে ছিল।
Therefore six days before the Passover Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus was, the man who died whom he raised from the dead.
2 সেখানে যীশুর সম্মানে এক ভোজসভার আয়োজন করা হয়েছিল। মার্থা পরিবেশন করছিলেন, আর লাসার ভোজের আসনে হেলান দিয়ে অনেকের সঙ্গে যীশুর কাছে বসেছিলেন।
So they made a supper for him there, and Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those who sat dining with him.
3 তখন মরিয়ম আধলিটার বিশুদ্ধ বহুমূল্য জটামাংসীর সুগন্ধি তেল নিয়ে যীশুর চরণে ঢেলে দিলেন এবং তাঁর চুল দিয়ে তাঁর পা-দুখানি মুছিয়ে দিলেন। তেলের সুগন্ধে সেই ঘর ভরে গেল।
Mary therefore, after taking a pound of ointment of very costly genuine spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled of the aroma of the ointment.
4 কিন্তু তাঁর এক শিষ্য যিহূদা ইষ্কারিয়োৎ, যে পরবর্তীকালে তাঁর সঙ্গে বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করেছিল, আপত্তি করল,
Therefore one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, the man who was going to betray him, says,
5 “এই সুগন্ধিদ্রব্য বিক্রি করে সেই অর্থ দরিদ্রদের দেওয়া হল না কেন? এর মূল্য তো এক বছরের বেতনের সমান!”
Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii, and given to the poor?
6 দরিদ্রদের জন্য চিন্তা ছিল বলে যে সে একথা বলেছিল, তা নয়; প্রকৃতপক্ষে সে ছিল চোর। টাকার থলি তার কাছে থাকায়, সেই অর্থ থেকে সে নিজের স্বার্থসিদ্ধি করত।
Now he said this, not because it was a concern to him about the poor, but because he was a thief, and he had the purse and removed things that were put in.
7 যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “ওকে ছেড়ে দাও। আমার সমাধি দিনের জন্য সে এই সুগন্ধিদ্রব্য বাঁচিয়ে রেখেছিল।
Jesus therefore said, Let her alone. She has keep it for the day of my burial.
8 তোমরা তো তোমাদের মধ্যে দরিদ্রদের সবসময়ই পাবে, কিন্তু আমাকে তোমরা সবসময় পাবে না।”
For ye always have the poor with you, but ye do not always have me.
9 ইতিমধ্যে ইহুদি সমাজের অনেক লোক যীশু সেখানে আছেন জানতে পেরে, শুধু যীশুকে নয়, লাসারকেও দেখতে এল, যাঁকে যীশু মৃত্যু থেকে উত্থাপিত করেছিলেন।
Therefore a great multitude of the Jews knew that he is there. And they came, not only because of Jesus, but that they might also see Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead.
10 প্রধান যাজকেরা তখন লাসারকেও হত্যা করার পরিকল্পনা করল,
But the chief priests decided that they should kill Lazarus also,
11 কারণ তাঁর জন্য অনেক ইহুদি যীশুর কাছে যাচ্ছিল এবং তাঁকে বিশ্বাস করছিল।
since because of him many of the Jews were going and were believing in Jesus.
12 পর্বের জন্য যে বিস্তর লোকের সমাগম ঘটেছিল, পরদিন তারা শুনতে পেল যে, যীশু জেরুশালেমের পথে এগিয়ে চলেছেন।
On the morrow a great multitude having come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 তারা খেজুর গাছের ডাল নিয়ে তাঁর সঙ্গে দেখা করতে গেল, আর উচ্চকণ্ঠে বলতে লাগল, “হোশান্না!” “প্রভুর নামে যিনি আসছেন, তিনি ধন্য!” “ধন্য ইস্রায়েলের সেই রাজাধিরাজ!”
took the branches of the palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried out, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel!
14 তখন একটি গর্দভশাবক দেখতে পেয়ে যীশু তার উপরে বসলেন, যেমন শাস্ত্রে লেখা আছে,
And Jesus, having found a young donkey, sat on it, as it is written,
15 “হে সিয়োন-কন্যা, তুমি ভীত হোয়ো না, দেখো, তোমার রাজাধিরাজ আসছেন, গর্দভশাবকে চড়ে আসছেন।”
Fear not, daughter of Zion. Behold, thy King comes, sitting on a donkey's colt.
16 তাঁর শিষ্যেরা প্রথমে এ সমস্ত বুঝতে পারেননি। যীশু মহিমান্বিত হওয়ার পর তাঁরা উপলব্ধি করেছিলেন যে, যীশুর সম্পর্কে শাস্ত্রে উল্লিখিত ঘটনা অনুসারেই তাঁরা তাঁর প্রতি এরূপ আচরণ করেছেন।
Now his disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these were things written because of him, and they did these things to him.
17 যীশু লাসারকে সমাধি থেকে ডেকে মৃত্যু থেকে উত্থাপিত করার সময় যে সকল লোক তাঁর সঙ্গে ছিল, তারা এসব কথা প্রচার করে চলেছিল।
Therefore the multitude, the one that was with him when he called Lazarus from the sepulcher, and raised him from the dead, testified.
18 বহু মানুষ যীশুর করা এই চিহ্নকাজের কথা শুনে তাঁর সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করতে গেল।
Also because of this the multitude met him, because they heard of him doing this sign.
19 তাই ফরিশীরা পরস্পর বলাবলি করল, “দেখো, আমরা কিছুই করতে পারছি না। চেয়ে দেখো, সমস্ত জগৎ কেমন তাঁর পিছনে ছুটে চলেছে!”
The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Do ye see that ye accomplish nothing. Behold, the world has gone after him.
20 পর্বের সময় যারা উপাসনা করতে গিয়েছিল, তাদের মধ্যে কয়েকজন গ্রিক ছিল।
Now some Greeks were from those who came up so that they might worship at the feast.
21 তারা গালীলের বেথসৈদার অধিবাসী ফিলিপের কাছে এসে নিবেদন করল, “মহাশয়, আমরা যীশুকে দেখতে চাই!”
These men therefore came to Philip, the man from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, we want to see Jesus.
22 ফিলিপ আন্দ্রিয়র কাছে বলতে গেলেন। আন্দ্রিয় ও ফিলিপ গিয়ে সেকথা যীশুকে জানালেন।
Philip comes and tells Andrew, and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
23 কিন্তু যীশু তাদের বললেন, “মনুষ্যপুত্রের মহিমান্বিত হওয়ার মুহূর্ত এসে পড়েছে।
And Jesus answered them saying, The hour has come that the Son of man should be glorified.
24 আমি তোমাদের সত্যি বলছি, গমের দানা যদি মাটিতে পড়ে না মরে, তবে তা শুধু একটি বীজ হয়েই থাকে। কিন্তু যদি মরে, তাহলে বহু বীজের উৎপন্ন হয়।
Truly, truly, I say to you, unless the grain of wheat that falls into the ground dies, it remains alone, but if it dies it bears much fruit.
25 যে মানুষ নিজের প্রাণকে ভালোবাসে, সে তা হারাবে; কিন্তু এ জগতে যে নিজের প্রাণকে ঘৃণা করে, সে অনন্ত জীবনের জন্য তা রক্ষা করবে। (aiōnios g166)
He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. (aiōnios g166)
26 যে আমার সেবা করতে চায়, তাকে অবশ্যই আমার অনুগামী হতে হবে, যেন আমি যেখানে থাকব, আমার সেবকও সেখানে থাকে। যে আমার সেবা করবে, আমার পিতা তাকে সমাদর করবেন।
If any man serves me, let him follow me, and where I am, there my helper will also be. And if any man serves me, the Father will honor him.
27 “আমার হৃদয় এখন উৎকণ্ঠায় ভরে উঠেছে? আমি কি বলব, ‘পিতা এই মুহূর্ত থেকে তুমি আমাকে রক্ষা করো?’ না! সেজন্যই তো আমি এই মুহূর্ত পর্যন্ত এসেছি।
Now is my soul troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But because of this I came to this hour.
28 পিতা, তোমার নাম মহিমান্বিত করো।” তখন স্বর্গ থেকে এক বাণী উপস্থিত হল, “আমি তা মহিমান্বিত করেছি এবং আবার মহিমান্বিত করব।”
Father, glorify thy name. A voice therefore came out of heaven, saying, I both glorified it, and I will glorify again.
29 উপস্থিত সকলে সেই বাণী শুনে বলল, “এ বজ্রের ধ্বনি!” অন্যেরা বলল, “কোনো স্বর্গদূত এঁর সঙ্গে কথা বললেন।”
The multitude therefore that stood by and heard, said thunder occurred, others said, An agent has spoken to him.
30 যীশু বললেন, “এই বাণী ছিল তোমাদের উপকারের জন্য, আমার জন্য নয়।
Jesus answered and said, This voice occurred not for my sake, but for your sakes.
31 এখন এ জগতের বিচারের সময়। এ জগতের অধিপতিকে এখন তাড়িয়ে দেওয়া হবে।
Now is the judgment of this world. Now the ruler of this world will be cast out.
32 কিন্তু, যখন আমি পৃথিবী থেকে আকাশে উত্তোলিত হব, তখন সব মানুষকে আমার দিকে আকর্ষণ করব।”
And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men to myself.
33 তিনি কীভাবে মৃত্যুবরণ করবেন, তা বোঝাবার জন্য তিনি একথা বললেন।
And he said this, signifying by what death he was going to die.
34 লোকেরা বলে উঠল, “আমরা বিধানশাস্ত্র থেকে শুনেছি যে, খ্রীষ্ট চিরকাল থাকবেন। তাহলে আপনি কী করে বলতে পারেন, ‘মনুষ্যপুত্রকে অবশ্যই উত্তোলিত হতে হবে?’ এই ‘মনুষ্যপুত্র’ কে?” (aiōn g165)
The multitude answered him, We have heard from the law that the Christ remains into the age. And how can thou say, The Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man? (aiōn g165)
35 তখন যীশু তাদের বললেন, “আর অল্পকালমাত্র জ্যোতি তোমাদের মধ্যে আছেন। অন্ধকার তোমাদের গ্রাস করার আগেই জ্যোতির প্রভায় তোমরা পথ চলো। যে অন্ধকারে পথ চলে, সে জানে না, কোথায় চলেছে।
Jesus therefore said to them, Yet a little time the light is with you. Walk while ye have the light, so that darkness may not overcome you. And he who walks in the darkness knows not where he is going.
36 তোমরা যতক্ষণ জ্যোতির সহচর্যে আছ, তোমরা সেই জ্যোতির উপরেই বিশ্বাস রেখো, যেন তোমরাও জ্যোতির সন্তান হতে পারো।” কথা বলা শেষ করে যীশু সেখান থেকে চলে গেলেন এবং তাদের কাছ থেকে লুকিয়ে রইলেন।
While ye have the light, believe in the light, so that ye may become sons of light. Jesus spoke these things, and after departing, he was hid from them.
37 যীশু ইহুদিদের সামনে এই সমস্ত চিহ্নকাজ সম্পাদন করলেন। তবুও তারা তাঁকে বিশ্বাস করল না।
But although having done so many signs before them, they did not believe in him,
38 ভাববাদী যিশাইয়ের বাণী এভাবেই সম্পূর্ণ হল: “প্রভু, আমাদের দেওয়া সংবাদ কে বিশ্বাস করেছে? কার কাছেই বা প্রভুর পরাক্রম প্রকাশিত হয়েছে?”
so that the word of Isaiah the prophet that he spoke might be fulfilled: Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
39 এই কারণেই তারা বিশ্বাস করতে পারেনি, যেমন যিশাইয় অন্যত্র বলেছেন:
Because of this they could not believe. Because Isaiah said again,
40 “তিনি তাদের চক্ষু দৃষ্টিহীন করেছেন, তাদের হৃদয়কে কঠিন করেছেন। তাই তারা নয়নে দেখতে পায় না, হৃদয়ে উপলব্ধি করে না, অথবা ফিরে আসে না—যেন আমি তাদের সুস্থ করি।”
He has blinded their eyes, and has hardened their heart, so that they would not see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and be turned, and I would heal them.
41 যিশাইয় একথা বলেছিলেন, কারণ তিনি যীশুর মহিমা দর্শন করেছিলেন ও তাঁরই কথা বলেছিলেন।
Isaiah said these things when he saw his glory, and spoke about him.
42 তবু, সেই একই সময়ে, নেতাদের মধ্যেও অনেকেই তাঁকে বিশ্বাস করেছিল। কিন্তু ফরিশীদের ভয়ে তারা তাদের বিশ্বাসের কথা স্বীকার করতে পারল না, কারণ আশঙ্কা ছিল যে সমাজভবন থেকে তাদের তাড়িয়ে দেওয়া হতে পারে;
Yet, nevertheless, even many of the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess, so that they would not become excommunicated from the synagogue,
43 কেননা ঈশ্বরের প্রশংসার চেয়ে তারা মানুষের কাছ থেকে প্রশংসা পেতে বেশি ভালোবাসতো।
for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
44 যীশু তখন উচ্চকণ্ঠে বললেন, “কোনো মানুষ যখন আমাকে বিশ্বাস করে তখন সে শুধু আমাকেই নয়, যিনি আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন তাঁকেও বিশ্বাস করে।
And Jesus cried out and said, He who believes in me, believes not in me, but in him who sent me.
45 আমাকে দেখলে সে তাঁকেই দেখে, যিনি আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন।
And he who sees me sees him who sent me.
46 এ জগতে আমি জ্যোতিরূপে এসেছি, যেন আমাকে যে বিশ্বাস করে, সে আর অন্ধকারে না থাকে।
I have come a light into the world, so that every man who believes in me may not remain in the darkness.
47 “যে আমার বাণী শুনেও তা পালন করে না, আমি তার বিচার করি না। কারণ আমি জগতের বিচার করতে আসিনি, আমি এসেছি জগৎকে উদ্ধার করতে।
And if any man hears my sayings, and will not believe, I do not judge him, for I came not so that I might judge the world, but that I might save the world.
48 যে আমাকে প্রত্যাখ্যান করে এবং আমার বাক্য গ্রহণ করে না, তার জন্য এক বিচারক আছেন। আমার বলা বাক্যই শেষের দিনে তাকে দোষী সাব্যস্ত করবে।
He who rejects me and does not receive my sayings, has that which judges him: the word that I spoke, that will judge him in the last day.
49 কারণ আমি নিজের ইচ্ছানুসারে বাক্য প্রকাশ করিনি, কিন্তু যিনি আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন, আমার সেই পিতাই, কী বলতে হবে বা কেমনভাবে বলতে হবে, আমাকে তার নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন।
Because I spoke not from myself, but the Father who sent me, he gave me commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
