ইয়োবের বিবরণ 4

1 পরে তৈমনীয় ইলীফস উত্তর দিলেন:

Then Eliphaz the Thaemanite answered and said,

2 “যদি কেউ তোমার সাথে কথা বলতে চায়, তুমি কি অধৈর্য হবে? কিন্তু কে কথা না বলে থাকতে পারে?

Hast you been often spoken to in distress? but who shall endure the force of your words?

3 ভাবো দেখি, তুমি কীভাবে অনেককে শিক্ষা দিয়েছ, দুর্বল হাত তুমি কীভাবে শক্ত করেছ।

For whereas you have instructed many, and have strengthened the hands of the weak one,

4 তোমার কথা হোঁচট খাওয়া লোকদের সাহায্য করেছে; কম্পমান জানুগুলি তুমি শক্ত করেছ।

and have supported the failing with words, and have imparted courage to feeble knees.

5 কিন্তু এখন দুঃখকষ্ট তোমার কাছে এসেছে, আর তুমি হতাশ হয়েছ; তা তোমায় আঘাত করেছে, আর তুমি আতঙ্কিত হয়েছ।

Yet now [that] pain has come upon you, and touched you, you are troubled.

6 তোমার ধর্মনিষ্ঠা কি তোমার প্রত্যয় নয় আর তোমার অনিন্দনীয় পথই কি তোমার প্রত্যাশা নয়?

Is not your fear [founded] in folly, your hope also, and the mischief of your way?

7 “এখন বিবেচনা করো: কে নির্দোষ হয়েও বিনষ্ট হয়েছে? কোথাও কি কোনও ন্যায়পরায়ণ লোক ধ্বংস হয়েছে?

Remember then who has perished, being pure? or when were the true-hearted utterly destroyed?

8 আমি লক্ষ্য করেছি, যারা অনিষ্ট চাষ করে আর যারা অস্থিরতা বোনে, তারা তাই কাটে।

Accordingly as I have seen men plowing barren places, and they that sow them will reap sorrows for themselves.

9 ঈশ্বরের নিঃশ্বাসে তারা বিনষ্ট হয়; তাঁর ক্রোধের বিস্ফোরণে তারা বিলীন হয়ে যায়।

They shall perish by the command of the Lord, and shall be utterly consumed by the breath of his wrath.

10 সিংহেরা গর্জন ও হুঙ্কার করতে পারে, তবুও মহাশক্তিশালী সিংহদেরও দাঁত ভেঙে যায়।

The strength of the lion, and the voice of the lioness, and the exulting cry of serpents are quenched.

11 শিকারের অভাবে সিংহ বিনষ্ট হয়, সিংহী শাবকেরা ছত্রভঙ্গ হয়।

The old lion has perished for lack of food, and the lions' whelps have forsaken one another.

12 “গোপনে একটি কথা আমার কাছে পৌঁছাল, সেকথার ফিস্‌ফিসানি আমার কানে বাজল।

But if there had been any truth in your words, none of these evils would have befallen you. Shall not mine ear receive excellent [revelations] from him?

13 রাতের অশান্তিকর স্বপ্নের মধ্যে, যখন মানুষ গভীর নিদ্রায় মগ্ন থাকে,

But [as when] terror falls upon men, with dread and a sound in the night,

14 ভয় ও কাঁপুনি আমায় গ্রাস করল আমার সব অস্থি কেঁপে উঠল।

horror and trembling seized me, and caused all my bones greatly to shake.

15 এক আত্মা আমার সামনে দিয়ে ধীরে বয়ে গেল, আর আমার শরীরের লোম খাড়া হল।

And a spirit came before my face; and my hair and flesh quivered.

16 তা থেমে গেল, কিন্তু আমি বলতে পারিনি সেটি কী। আমার চোখের সামনে দাঁড়িয়েছিল এক অবয়ব, আর আমি মৃদু এক স্বর শুনলাম:

I arose and perceived it not: I looked, and there, was no form before my eyes: but I only heard a breath and a voice, [saying],

17 ‘মরণশীল মানুষ কি ঈশ্বরের চেয়েও বেশি ধার্মিক হতে পারে? এক সবল মানুষও কি তার নির্মাতার চেয়েও বেশি পবিত্র হতে পারে?

What, shall a mortal be pure before the Lord? or a man be blameless in regard to his works?

18 ঈশ্বর যদি তাঁর দাসেদের বিশ্বাস না করেন, তিনি যদি তাঁর স্বর্গদূতদেরও দোষারোপ করেন,

Whereas he trust not in his servants, and perceives perverseness in his angels.

19 তবে মাটির বাড়িতে বসবাসকারী সেই মানুষদের, যাদের উৎপত্তি সেই ধুলোতে, এক পতঙ্গের চেয়েও সহজে যারা নিষ্পিষ্ট হয়! তাদের কী হবে?

But [as for] them that dwell in houses of clay, of whom we also are formed of the same clay, he smites them like a moth.

20 ভোর থেকে গোধূলি বেলা পর্যন্ত তারা চূর্ণবিচূর্ণ হয়; লোকচক্ষুর অন্তরালে, তারা চিরতরে বিনষ্ট হয়।

And from the morning to evening they no longer exist: they have perished, because they can’t help themselves.

21 তাদের তাঁবুর দড়াদড়ি কি উপড়ে ফেলা হয় না, যেন বিনা বিজ্ঞতায় তারা মারা যায়?’

For he blows upon them, and they are withered: they have perished for lack of wisdom.
