1 পরে তৈমনীয় ইলীফস উত্তর দিলেন:
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2 “কোনও জ্ঞানবান কি ফাঁপা ধারণা সমেত উত্তর দেবেন বা গরম পূর্বীয় বাতাস দিয়ে তিনি পেট ভরাবেন?
“Would a wise man answer with such empty ‘knowledge’ that is just a lot of hot air?
3 অনর্থক কথা বলে, মূল্যহীন বক্তৃতা দিয়ে কি তিনি তর্ক করবেন?
He wouldn't argue with unprofitable speeches using words that do no good.
4 কিন্তু তুমি এমনকি চুপিচুপি ভক্তিরও হানি ঘটাচ্ছ ও ঈশ্বরনিষ্ঠায় বাধা দিচ্ছ।
But you are doing away with the fear of God, and destroying communion with him.
5 তোমার পাপ তোমার মুখকে উত্তেজিত করছে; তুমি ধূর্ততার জিভ অবলম্বন করছ।
It's your sins that are doing the talking, and you are choosing deceptive words.
6 আমার নয়, তোমার নিজের মুখই তোমাকে দোষী সাব্যস্ত করছে; তোমার নিজের ঠোঁটই তোমার বিরুদ্ধে সাক্ষী দিচ্ছে।
Your own mouth is condemning you, not me; your own lips are testifying against you.
7 “মানুষের মধ্যে তুমি কি প্রথমজাত? পাহাড়ের জন্মের আগেই কি তোমার জন্ম হয়েছিল?
Were you the very first person to be born? Were you born before the hills were created?
8 তুমি কি ঈশ্বরের পরামর্শ শুনেছ? প্রজ্ঞার উপরে কি তোমারই একচেটিয়া অধিকার আছে?
Were you there listening in God's council? Does wisdom only belong to you?
9 তুমি এমনকি জানো যা আমরা জানি না? তোমার এমন কি অন্তর্দৃষ্টি আছে যা আমাদের নেই?
What do you know that we don't? What do you understand that we don't?
10 পাকা চুলবিশিষ্ট লোকেরা ও বৃদ্ধেরা আমাদের পক্ষে আছেন, যারা তোমার বাবার চেয়েও বয়স্ক।
We have among us old, gray-haired people much older than your father!
11 ঈশ্বরের সান্তনা কি তোমার জন্যে যথেষ্ট নয়, মৃদুভাবে বলা কথাও কি কিছুই নয়?
Are the comforts God provides too little for you? Are God's gentle words not enough for you?
12 তোমার অন্তর কেন তোমাকে বিপথে পরিচলিত করেছে, ও তোমার চোখ কেন মিট্মিট্ করছে,
Why do you let yourself be carried away by your emotions?
13 যার ফলে ঈশ্বরের বিরুদ্ধে তুমি তোমার উগ্র রোষ প্রকাশ করছ ও তোমার মুখ থেকে এ ধরনের কথা উগরে দিচ্ছ।
Why do your eyes flash in anger that you turn against God and let yourself speak this way?
14 “নশ্বর মানুষ কী, যে তারা শুচিশুদ্ধ হবে, বা স্ত্রী-জাত মানুষও কী, যে তারা ধার্মিক হবে?
Who can say they are clean? Which human being can say that they do what is right?
15 ঈশ্বর যদি তাঁর পবিত্রজনদেরই বিশ্বাস করেন না, আকাশমণ্ডলও যদি তাঁর দৃষ্টিতে অকলুষিত না হয়,
Look, God doesn't even trust his angels—even the heavenly beings are not pure in his sight!
16 তবে সেই নশ্বর মানুষ কী, যারা নীচ ও দুর্নীতিগ্রস্ত, যারা জলের মতো করে অনিষ্ট পান করে!
How much less pure are those who are unclean and corrupt, drinking in sin like water!
17 “আমার কথা শোনো ও আমি তোমার কাছে ব্যাখ্যা করে দেব; আমি যা দেখেছি তা তোমাকে বলতে দাও,
If you are ready to listen to me, I will show you. I will explain my insights.
18 জ্ঞানবানেরা যা ঘোষণা করেছিলেন, তাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের কাছ থেকে পাওয়া কোনো কিছুই লুকিয়ে রাখেননি:
This is what wise men have said, confirmed by their ancestors,
19 (শুধু তাদেরই দেশটি দেওয়া হয়েছিল যখন কোনও বিদেশি তাদের মধ্যে ঘোরাফেরা করত না)
those who to whom alone the land was given before foreigners ever were there.
20 দুর্নীতিপরায়ণ মানুষ আজীবন যন্ত্রণাভোগ করে, নিষ্ঠুর মানুষ ক্লেশে পরিপূর্ণ বছরগুলি নিজের জন্য সঞ্চয় করে রাখে।
The wicked writhe in pain all their lives, through all the years these oppressors survive.
21 আতঙ্কজনক শব্দে তার কান ভরে ওঠে; যখন সবকিছু ঠিক আছে বলে মনে হয়, তখনই লুঠেরারা তাকে আক্রমণ করে।
Terrifying sounds fill their ears; even when they think they're safe, the destroyer will attack them.
22 সে অন্ধকার জগৎ থেকে পালানোর মরিয়া চেষ্টা করে; সে তরোয়ালের জন্য চিহ্নিত হয়ে যায়।
They don't believe they will escape the darkness—they know a sword is waiting for them.
23 সে শকুনের মতো হন্যে হয়ে খাদ্য খুঁজে বেড়ায়; সে জানে অন্ধকারাচ্ছন্ন দিন এসে পড়েছে।
They wander around looking for food, asking ‘Where is it?’ They know that their day of darkness is close at hand.
24 চরম দুর্দশা ও মনস্তাপ তাকে আতঙ্কিত করে তোলে; অস্থিরতা তাকে আচ্ছন্ন করে, যেভাবে একজন রাজা আক্রমণ করার জন্য প্রস্তুত হন,
Misery and torment overwhelm them like a king preparing for battle.
25 যেহেতু সে ঈশ্বরের বিরুদ্ধে তার হাত মুষ্টিবদ্ধ করেছে ও সর্বশক্তিমানের বিরুদ্ধে নিজেকে আস্ফালিত করেছে,
They shake their fists in God's face, defiantly challenging the Almighty,
26 বেপরোয়াভাবে এক পুরু, শক্ত ঢাল নিয়ে তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে আক্রমণ চালিয়েছে।
insolently attacking him with their shields.
27 “যদিও তার মুখমণ্ডল চর্বিতে ঢাকা পড়েছে ও তার কোমর মাংস দিয়ে ফুলেফেঁপে উঠেছে,
They have become fat in their rebellion, their bellies bloated with fat.
28 সে ধ্বংসপ্রাপ্ত নগরে ও সেইসব বাড়িতে বসবাস করবে যেখানে কেউ বসবাস করে না, যেসব বাড়ি ভেঙে গিয়ে নুড়ি-পাথরের স্তূপে পরিণত হয়েছে।
But their cities will become desolate; they will live in abandoned houses that are crumbling into ruins.
29 সে আর ধনী হয়ে থাকতে পারবে না ও তার ধনসম্পদও স্থায়ী হবে না, তার সম্পত্তিও দেশের সর্বত্র ছড়িয়ে পড়বে না।
They will lose their riches, their wealth will not endure, their possessions will not spread over the earth.
30 সে অন্ধকারের হাত থেকে রেহাই পাবে না; আগুনের শিখা তার মুকুলগুলি শুকিয়ে দেবে, ও ঈশ্বরের মুখনির্গত শ্বাস তাকে উড়িয়ে নিয়ে যাবে।
They will not escape from the darkness. Like a tree whose shoots are burned up in a forest fire, the breath of God will blow him away.
31 মূল্যহীন কোনো কিছুতে আস্থা স্থাপন করে সে নিজেকে প্রতারিত না করুক, যেহেতু তার পরিবর্তে সে কিছুই পাবে না।
They should not trust in things that are worthless, for their reward will be worthless.
32 সময়ের আগেই সে শুকিয়ে যাবে, ও তার শাখাপ্রশাখাগুলি আর সতেজ থাকবে না।
This will be paid in full before their time has come. They are like tree branches that wither,
33 সে এমন এক দ্রাক্ষালতার মতো হয়ে যাবে যেখান থেকে কাঁচা আঙুর ঝরে পড়ে, এমন এক জলপাই গাছের মতো হয়ে যাবে যেখান থেকে ফুলের কুঁড়ি খসে পড়ে।
like vines that lose their unripe grapes, or olive trees that lose their flowers.
34 কারণ ভক্তিহীনদের সমবেত জনসমষ্টি নির্বংশ হবে, ও যারা ঘুস নিতে ভালোবাসে তাদের তাঁবু আগুন গ্রাস করে ফেলবে।
For those who reject God are barren, and fire will burn up the homes of those who love bribes.
35 তারা সংকট গর্ভে ধারণ করে ও অমঙ্গলের জন্ম দেয়; তাদের গর্ভ প্রতারণা তৈরি করে।”
They plan trouble and produce evil, giving birth to deception.”
