যিরমিয়ের বই 6
1 “ওহে বিন্যামীন গোষ্ঠীর লোকেরা, তোমরা সুরক্ষার জন্য পলায়ন করো! তোমরা জেরুশালেম থেকে পালিয়ে যাও! তকোয় নগরে তূরী বাজাও! বেথ-হক্কেরম থেকে সংকেত দেখাও! কারণ বিপর্যয় ও বিধ্বংসের জন্য উত্তর দিক থেকে আসছে এক ভয়ংকর ত্রাস।
Assemble, O ye children of Benjamin, to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and in Tekoa, blow the cornet, and on Beth-hakkerem set up a fire signal; for evil is seen [coming] out of the north, and great havoc.
2 কমনীয় ও সুন্দরী সিয়োন-কন্যাকে আমি ধ্বংস করব।
The comely and the delicate, the daughter of Zion do I destroy.
3 মেষপালকেরা তাদের পশুপাল নিয়ে তার বিরুদ্ধে আসবে; তারা তার চারপাশে তাদের তাঁবু স্থাপন করবে, প্রত্যেকে নিজের নিজের অংশে তাদের পশুপাল চরাবে।”
Unto her shall come shepherds with their flocks; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed off every one his own place.
4 “তার বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধের জন্য প্রস্তুত হও। ওঠো, আমরা মধ্যাহ্নেই তাদের আক্রমণ করি। কিন্তু হায়, দিনের আলো ম্লান হয়ে আসছে, আর সন্ধ্যের ছায়া দীর্ঘতর হচ্ছে।
Prepare ye war against her! “Arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day waneth, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.
5 তাই ওঠো, চলো আমরা রাত্রিবেলা আক্রমণ করি এবং তার দুর্গগুলি ধ্বংস করে দিই!”
Arise, and let us go up by night, and let us destroy her palaces.”
6 বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: “সব গাছ কেটে ফেলো আর জেরুশালেমের বিরুদ্ধে অবরোধ সৃষ্টি করো। এই নগরকে অবশ্য শাস্তি দিতে হবে; এরা উপদ্রবে পূর্ণ হয়েছে।
For thus hath said the Lord of hosts, Cut ye down trees, and cast up a mound against Jerusalem: this is the city whose time of punishment is come; she is full of oppression in her midst.
7 যেভাবে কোনো উৎস বেগে জল নির্গত করে, তেমনই সে ক্রমাগত দুষ্টতা বের করে থাকে। তার মধ্যে হিংস্রতা ও ধ্বংসের বাক্য প্রতিধ্বনিত হয়, তার রোগব্যাধি ও ক্ষতগুলি সবসময়ই আমার সামনে থাকে।
As a well sendeth forth its waters, so doth she cause her wickedness to spring forth: violence and robbery are heard in her; in my presence there are continually disease and wounds.
8 ওহে জেরুশালেম, সতর্ক হও, নইলে আমি তোমার কাছ থেকে ফিরে যাব এবং তোমার ভূমিকে উৎসন্ন করব, যেন কেউ এর মধ্যে বসবাস করতে না পারে।”
Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, that my soul tear itself not away from thee; that I render thee not desolate, a land which is not inhabited.
9 বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: “যেভাবে আঙুর খুঁটে খুঁটে চয়ন করা হয়, ইস্রায়েলের অবশিষ্ট লোকদেরও তারা তেমনই চয়ন করবে; আঙুর শাখাগুলিতে তোমরা আবার হাত দাও, যেন অবশিষ্ট আঙুরগুলিও তুলে নেওয়া যায়।”
Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, They shall thoroughly glean like a vine the remnant of Israel: carry back thy hand as a grape-gatherer frequently to the baskets.
10 কার সঙ্গে আমি কথা বলব, কাকে সতর্কবাক্য দেব? কে শুনবে আমার কথা? তাদের কান বন্ধ হয়েছে তাই তারা পায় না শুনতে। সদাপ্রভুর বাক্য তাদের কাছে আপত্তিকর; তারা তাতে কোনও আনন্দ পায় না।
To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot be attentive: behold, the word of the Lord is become unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.
11 কিন্তু আমি সদাপ্রভুর ক্রোধে পূর্ণ, আমি আর তা ধরে রাখতে পারছি না। “রাস্তায় জড়ো হওয়া ছেলেমেয়েদের উপরে এবং একসঙ্গে একত্র হওয়া যুবকদের উপরে তা ঢেলে দাও। ঢেলে দাও তা স্বামী-স্ত্রীর উপরে এবং তাদের উপরে, যারা বৃদ্ধ ও বয়সের ভারে জর্জরিত।
And I am full of the fury of the Lord; I am weary with sustaining it: [I must] pour it out over the child in the street, and over the assembly of young men together; for even the husband with the wife shall be seized, the aged with him that is full of days.
12 তাদের খেতের জমি ও স্ত্রীদের সঙ্গে তাদের বসতবাড়িগুলিও আমি অন্যদের হাতে তুলে দেব, যখন আমি আমার হাত প্রসারিত করব, তাদের বিরুদ্ধে, যারা দেশের মধ্যে করবে বসবাস,” সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন।
And their houses shall be transferred unto others, fields and wives together; for I will stretch out my hand over the inhabitants of the land, saith the Lord.
13 “নগণ্যতম জন থেকে মহান ব্যক্তি পর্যন্ত, সকলেই লোভ-লালসায় লিপ্ত; ভাববাদী ও যাজকেরা সব এক রকম, তারা সকলেই প্রতারণার অনুশীলন করে।
For from their least even unto their greatest, every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one practiseth falsehood.
14 তারা আমার প্রজাদের ক্ষত এভাবে নিরাময় করে, যেন তা একটুও ক্ষতিকর নয়। যখন কোনো শান্তি নেই, তখন ‘শান্তি, শান্তি,’ বলে তারা আশ্বাস দেয়।
And they heal the breach of the daughter of my people very lightly, saying, Peace, peace: when there is no peace.
15 তাদের এই জঘন্য আচরণের জন্য তারা কি লজ্জিত? না, তাদের কোনও লজ্জা নেই; লজ্জারুণ হতে তারা জানেই না। তাই, পতিতদের মধ্যে তারাও পতিত হবে; আমি যখন তাদের শাস্তি দেব, তখন তাদেরও ভূপাতিত করব,” সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন।
They should have been ashamed, because they had committed an abomination; but they neither felt the least shame, nor did they know how to blush: therefore shall they fall among those that fall; at the time that I punish their sin shall they stumble, saith the Lord.
16 সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: “তোমরা চৌমাথায় গিয়ে দাঁড়াও ও তাকিয়ে দেখো; পুরোনো পথের কথা জিজ্ঞাসা করো, জেনে নাও, উৎকৃষ্ট পথ কোন দিকে এবং সেই পথে চলো, তাহলে তোমরা নিজের নিজের প্রাণের জন্য বিশ্রাম পাবে। কিন্তু তোমরা বললে, ‘আমরা এই পথ মাড়াব না।’
Thus hath said the Lord, Place yourselves on the ways, and see, and ask after the ancient paths, where is the way which is good, that ye may walk thereon, and find rest for your soul. But they said, We will not walk [thereon].
17 আমি তোমাদের উপরে প্রহরী নিযুক্ত করে বললাম, ‘তোমরা তূরীর ধ্বনি শোনো!’ কিন্তু তোমরা বললে, ‘আমরা শুনব না।’
Then did I set watchmen over you, [saying, ] Listen to the sound of the cornet. But they said, We will not listen.
18 সেই কারণে ওহে জাতিবৃন্দের লোকেরা, তোমরা শোনো, সাক্ষীরা, তোমরা লক্ষ্য করো তাদের প্রতি কী ঘটবে।
Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O assembly, what [guilt] is among them.
19 ও পৃথিবী শোনো, আমি এই জাতির উপরে বিপর্যয় নামিয়ে আনছি, তা হবে তাদের পরিকল্পনার ফল, কারণ তারা আমার কথা শোনেনি এবং তারা আমার বিধান অগ্রাহ্য করেছে।
Hear, O earth! behold, I will bring evil upon this people, the fruit of their thoughts; because unto my words have they not been attentive, and as regardeth my law, —that have they despised.
20 আমার কাছে শিবা দেশ থেকে আনা ধূপ বা দূরবর্তী দেশ থেকে আনা মিষ্টি বচ উৎসর্গ করা অর্থহীন। আমি তোমাদের হোমবলি সব গ্রাহ্য করব না, তোমাদের বলিদানগুলি আমাকে সন্তুষ্ট করে না।”
To what purpose serveth me the frankincense which cometh from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far-off country? your burnt-offerings are not acceptable, and your sacrifices are not agreeable unto me.
21 সেই কারণে সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: “আমি এই লোকেদের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবন্ধকতা স্থাপন করব। বাবারা ও পুত্রেরা একসঙ্গে তাতে হোঁচট খাবে; প্রতিবেশী ও বন্ধুবান্ধবেরা ধ্বংস হয়ে যাবে।”
Therefore thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will place before this people stumbling-blocks, and thereon shall stumble the fathers and the sons together, the neighbor and his friend, and they shall perish.
22 সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: “দেখো, উত্তরের দেশ থেকে এক সৈন্যদল আসছে; পৃথিবীর প্রান্তসীমা থেকে এক মহাজাতিকে উত্তেজিত করা হয়েছে।
Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, a people is coming from the north country, and a great nation shall wake up from the farthest ends of the earth.
23 তাদের হাতে আছে ধনুক ও বর্শা; তারা নিষ্ঠুর, মায়ামমতা প্রদর্শন করে না। তারা ঘোড়ায় চড়লে সমুদ্রগর্জনের মতো শব্দ শোনায়; সিয়োন-কন্যা, তোমাকে আক্রমণ করার জন্য তারা যুদ্ধের সাজ পরে আসছে।”
Bow and spear shall they firmly grasp; cruel are they, and will have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and upon horses do they ride; set in array as one man for the war, against thee, O daughter of Zion.
24 আমরা তাদের বিষয়ে সংবাদ শুনেছি, আমাদের হাত যেন অবশ হয়ে ঝুলে পড়ছে। প্রসববেদনাগ্রস্ত নারীর মতো মনস্তাপে আমরা জর্জরিত হয়েছি।
We have heard the fame of him—our hands grow feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, pain, as of a woman in giving birth.
25 তোমরা মাঠে যেয়ো না, বা রাস্তায়ও হাঁটাচলা কোরো না, কারণ শত্রুর কাছে অস্ত্র আছে, আর চতুর্দিকেই আছে আতঙ্কের পরিবেশ।
Go not forth into the field, on the road must ye not walk; for [there is] the sword of the enemy, terror on every side.
26 আমার প্রজারা, চটের পোশাক পরে নাও এবং ছাইয়ের মধ্যে গড়াগড়ি দাও; একমাত্র পুত্রবিয়োগের মতো শোক ও তিক্ত বিলাপ করো, কারণ ধ্বংসকারী হঠাৎই আমাদের উপরে এসে পড়বে।
O daughter of my people, gird thyself with sackcloth, and roll thyself in the ashes: a mourning as for an only son prepare unto thee, a most bitter lamentation; for suddenly will the destroyer come over us.
27 “আমি তোমাকে ধাতু যাচাইকারীর পরীক্ষক এবং আমার প্রজাদের আকরিক করেছি, যেন তুমি তাদের পথসকল নিরীক্ষণ ও পরীক্ষা করতে পারো।
I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and probe their way.
28 তারা হল কঠিন হৃদয় বিশিষ্ট বিদ্রোহী, তারা কেবলই নিন্দা করে বেড়ায়। তারা পিতল আর লোহার মতো; তারা সবাই ভ্রষ্টাচার করে।
They all are grievous revolters, going about as talebearers, copper and iron: they all are corrupt.
29 হাপরগুলি ভীষণভাবে বাতাস দিচ্ছে, যেন আগুনে সীসা গলে যায়, কিন্তু এই পরিশোধন প্রক্রিয়া বিফল হয়, দুষ্টদের শোধন হয় না।
The bellows are burnt, by the fire the lead is consumed: in vain the melter refineth; for the wicked are not separated away.
30 তাদের বাতিল করা রুপো বলা হয়, কারণ সদাপ্রভু তাদের বাতিল গণ্য করেছেন।”
Refuse silver men call them; because the Lord hath rejected them.
