1 সদাপ্রভু বলেন, “তোমরা জেরুশালেমের পথে পথে এই মাথা থেকে ওই মাথায় যাও, চারপাশে তাকিয়ে দেখো ও বিবেচনা করো, নগরের চকে চকে অনুসন্ধান করো। যদি তোমরা একজন ব্যক্তিকেও খুঁজে পাও যে ন্যায্য আচরণ করে ও সত্য মেনে চলতে চায়, তাহলে আমি এই নগরকে ক্ষমা করব।
“Run back and forth through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in its wide places, if you can find a man, if there is anyone who does justly, who seeks truth, then I will pardon her.
2 তারা যদিও বলে, ‘জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি,’ তবুও, তারা তা মিথ্যাই শপথ করে।”
Though they say, ‘As Yahweh lives,’ surely they swear falsely.”
3 হে সদাপ্রভু, আমাদের চোখ কি সত্যের প্রতি দৃষ্টি করে না? তুমি তাদের আঘাত করেছ, কিন্তু তাদের কোনো বেদনাবোধ নেই; তুমি তাদের চূর্ণ করেছ, কিন্তু তারা সংশোধিত হতে চায়নি। তারা নিজেদের মুখ পাথরের চেয়েও কঠিন করেছে এবং তারা মন পরিবর্তন করতে চায়নি।
O Yahweh, don’t your eyes look on truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.
4 আমি ভেবেছিলাম, “এরা তো দরিদ্র শ্রেণীর; এরা মূর্খও, কারণ এরা জানে না সদাপ্রভুর পথ, তাদের ঈশ্বরের চাহিদাগুলি।
Then I said, “Surely these are poor. They are foolish; for they don’t know Yahweh’s way, nor the law of their God.
5 তাই আমি নেতাদের কাছে যাব ও তাদের সঙ্গে কথা বলব; তারা নিশ্চয়ই সদাপ্রভুর পথ ও তাদের ঈশ্বরের চাহিদাগুলি জানে।” কিন্তু তারাও একযোগে জোয়াল ভেঙে ফেলেছে এবং তাদের বাঁধন ছিঁড়ে ফেলেছে।
I will go to the great men and will speak to them, for they know the way of Yahweh, and the law of their God.” But these with one accord have broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.
6 সেই কারণে বন থেকে একটি সিংহ এসে তাদের আক্রমণ করবে, মরুপ্রান্তর থেকে একটি নেকড়ে এসে তাদের ধ্বংস করবে, একটি চিতাবাঘ তাদের গ্রামগুলির কাছে এসে ওৎ পেতে থাকবে, যেন কেউ যদি বের হয়ে আসে তো তাকে ছিঁড়ে খণ্ড খণ্ড করে ফেলতে পারে, কারণ তাদের বিদ্রোহের মাত্রা অনেক বেশি এবং তাদের বিপথগমনের সংখ্যা অনেক।
Therefore a lion out of the forest will kill them. A wolf of the evenings will destroy them. A leopard will watch against their cities. Everyone who goes out there will be torn in pieces, because their transgressions are many and their backsliding has increased.
7 “আমি কেন তোমাদের ক্ষমা করব? তোমাদের ছেলেমেয়েরা আমাকে পরিত্যাগ করেছে এবং বিভিন্ন দেবদেবীর নামে শপথ করেছে, যারা দেবতা নয়। আমি তাদের সব প্রয়োজন মিটিয়েছি, তবুও তারা ব্যভিচার করেছে, দলে দলে গিয়েছে বেশ্যাদের বাড়ি।
“How can I pardon you? Your children have forsaken me, and sworn by what are no gods. When I had fed them to the full, they committed adultery, and assembled themselves in troops at the prostitutes’ houses.
8 তারা পেট পুরে খাওয়া কামুক অশ্বের মতো, প্রত্যেকে পরস্ত্রীর সঙ্গে মিলিত হওয়ার জন্য ডাক দেয়।
They were as fed horses roaming at large. Everyone neighed after his neighbor’s wife.
9 এর জন্য আমি কি তাদের শাস্তি দেব না?” সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন। “এই ধরনের এক জাতির প্রতি আমি স্বয়ং কি প্রতিশোধ নেব না?
Shouldn’t I punish them for these things?” says Yahweh. “Shouldn’t my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
10 “তোমরা যাও, তার দ্রাক্ষাকুঞ্জগুলির মধ্য দিয়ে গিয়ে তাদের সর্বনাশ করো, কিন্তু তাদের সম্পূর্ণরূপে ধ্বংস কোরো না। তার ডালপালা সব কেটে ফেলো, কারণ এই লোকেরা সদাপ্রভুর অনুগত নয়।
“Go up on her walls, and destroy, but don’t make a full end. Take away her branches, for they are not Yahweh’s.
11 ইস্রায়েলের গোষ্ঠী ও যিহূদার গোষ্ঠীর লোকেরা, আমার বিরুদ্ধে অত্যন্ত বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করেছে,” সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন।
For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me,” says Yahweh.
12 তারা সদাপ্রভুর বিরুদ্ধে মিথ্যা কথা বলেছে; তারা বলেছে, “তিনি কিছুই করবেন না! আমাদের কোনো ক্ষতি হবে না; তরোয়াল বা দুর্ভিক্ষের সম্মুখীন আমরা কখনও হব না।
They have denied Yahweh, and said, “It is not he. Evil won’t come on us. We won’t see sword or famine.
13 ভাববাদীরা বাতাসের মতো, ঈশ্বরের বাক্য তাদের কাছে নেই; তাই তারা যা বলেন, তা তাদেরই প্রতি ঘটুক।”
The prophets will become wind, and the word is not in them. Thus it will be done to them.”
14 অতএব, সর্বশক্তিমান ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: “যেহেতু প্রজারা এসব কথা বলেছে, আমি তোমার মুখে আগুনের মতো আমার বাক্য দেব এবং এই লোকেরা হবে কাঠের মতো, যা দগ্ধ হয়ে যাবে।”
Therefore Yahweh, the God of Armies says, “Because you speak this word, behold, I will make my words in your mouth fire, and this people wood, and it will devour them.
15 সদাপ্রভু ঘোষণা করেন, “ওহে ইস্রায়েল গোষ্ঠীর লোকেরা, আমি দূরে স্থিত এক জাতিকে তোমার বিরুদ্ধে নিয়ে আসছি, তারা অতি প্রাচীন ও শক্তিমান এক জাতি; সেই জাতির ভাষা তোমরা জানো না, তাদের কথা তোমরা বুঝতে পারবে না।
Behold, I will bring a nation on you from far away, house of Israel,” says Yahweh. “It is a mighty nation. It is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you don’t know and don’t understand what they say.
16 তাদের তূণগুলি যেন খোলা কবর; তারা সবাই শক্তিশালী যোদ্ধা।
Their quiver is an open tomb. They are all mighty men.
17 তারা তোমাদের সব শস্য ও খাবার খেয়ে ফেলবে, তারা তোমাদের ছেলেমেয়েদের গ্রাস করবে; তারা তোমাদের মেষ ও ছাগল-গোরুর পাল গ্রাস করবে, গ্রাস করবে তোমাদের সব আঙুর ও ডুমুর গাছের ফল। তরোয়াল দিয়ে তারা ধ্বংস করবে তোমাদের সুরক্ষিত নগরগুলি, যেগুলির উপরে তোমরা নির্ভর করে থাকো।”
They will eat up your harvest and your bread, which your sons and your daughters should eat. They will eat up your flocks and your herds. They will eat up your vines and your fig trees. They will beat down your fortified cities in which you trust with the sword.
18 সদাপ্রভু ঘোষণা করেন, “এমনকি, সেই সমস্ত দিনেও আমি তোমাদের সম্পূর্ণরূপে ধ্বংস করব না।
“But even in those days,” says Yahweh, “I will not make a full end of you.
19 আর লোকেরা যখন জিজ্ঞাসা করবে, ‘কেন সদাপ্রভু, আমাদের ঈশ্বর, আমাদের প্রতি এরকম আচরণ করেছেন?’ তুমি তাদের বোলো, ‘তোমরা যেমন আমাকে পরিত্যাগ করেছ এবং স্বদেশে বিজাতীয় দেবদেবীর উপাসনা করেছ, তেমনই এবার তোমরা সেই দেশে গিয়ে বিদেশিদের সেবা করবে, যে দেশ তোমাদের নয়।’
It will happen when you say, ‘Why has Yahweh our God done all these things to us?’ Then you shall say to them, ‘Just as you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your land, so you will serve strangers in a land that is not yours.’
20 “যাকোবের কুলে গিয়ে একথা বলো, যিহূদায় গিয়ে ঘোষণা করো:
“Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,
21 মূর্খ ও বুদ্ধিহীন জাতির লোকেরা, তোমরা একথা শ্রবণ করো, তোমাদের চোখ আছে, কিন্তু দেখতে পাও না, কান আছে, কিন্তু শুনতে পাও না।”
‘Hear this now, foolish people without understanding, who have eyes, and don’t see, who have ears, and don’t hear:
22 সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন, “তোমরা কি আমাকে ভয় করবে না? আমার সামনে তোমরা কি ভয়ে কাঁপবে না? বালুকাবেলাকে আমি সমুদ্রের জন্য সীমারেখা তৈরি করেছি, তা এক চিরকালীন সীমা, যা কখনও সে উল্লঙ্ঘন করতে পারে না। তরঙ্গ আছড়ে পড়তে পারে, কিন্তু সফল হবে না, তারা গর্জন করতে পারে, কিন্তু অতিক্রম করতে পারবে না।
Don’t you fear me?’ says Yahweh; ‘Won’t you tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it can’t pass it? Though its waves toss themselves, yet they can’t prevail. Though they roar, they still can’t pass over it.’
23 কিন্তু এই লোকদের এক জেদি ও বিদ্রোহী হৃদয় আছে; তারা পিছন ফিরে আমাকে ত্যাগ করে চলে গিয়েছে।
“But this people has a revolting and a rebellious heart. They have revolted and gone.
24 তারা মনে মনেও বলে না, ‘এসো, আমরা আমাদের ঈশ্বর, সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় করি, যিনি যথাসময়ে আমাদের শরৎ ও বসন্তকালের বৃষ্টি দেন, যিনি আমাদের ফসল কাটার জন্য নিয়মিত সময়ের আশ্বাস দেন।’
They don’t say in their heart, ‘Let’s now fear Yahweh our God, who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in its season, who preserves to us the appointed weeks of the harvest.’
25 তোমাদের অন্যায়ের সব কাজ এগুলি দূরে সরিয়ে রেখেছে, তোমাদের সমস্ত পাপের জন্য কোনো মঙ্গল তোমাদের হয় না।
“Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withheld good from you.
26 “আমার প্রজাদের মধ্যে রয়েছে দুষ্ট লোকেরা, ফাঁদ পেতে পাখি শিকারীদের মতো তারা ওৎ পেতে থাকে, তারা তাদের মতো, যারা ফাঁদ পেতে মানুষ ধরে।
For wicked men are found among my people. They watch, as fowlers lie in wait. They set a trap. They catch men.
27 পাখিতে ভরা খাঁচার মতো, তাদের গৃহ প্রতারণায় পূর্ণ; তারা ধনী ও শক্তিশালী হয়েছে
As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit. Therefore they have become great, and grew rich.
28 এবং তারা হয়েছে সুপুষ্ট, চিকণ চেহারা সদৃশ। তাদের অন্যায় কর্মের কোনো সীমা নেই; তারা ন্যায়বিচার করে না। তারা অনাথদের কল্যাণের জন্য বিচার করে না, দরিদ্রের ন্যায়সংগত অধিকার তারা সমর্থন করে না।
They have grown fat. They shine; yes, they excel in deeds of wickedness. They don’t plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper; and they don’t defend the rights of the needy.
29 এই সবের জন্য আমি কি তাদের শাস্তি দেব না?” সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন। “এই ধরনের জাতির কাছ থেকে আমি স্বয়ং কি প্রতিশোধ গ্রহণ করব না?
“Shouldn’t I punish for these things?” says Yahweh. “Shouldn’t my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
30 “এক রোমহর্ষক ও ভয়ংকর ঘটনা এই দেশে ঘটেছে;
“An astonishing and horrible thing has happened in the land.
31 ভাববাদীরা মিথ্যা ভাববাণী বলে, যাজকেরা নিজেদের অধিকারবশত কর্তৃত্ব ফলায়, আর আমার প্রজারা এরকমই ভালোবাসে। কিন্তু শেষে তোমরা কী করবে?
The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority; and my people love to have it so. What will you do in the end of it?
