1 বিভিন্ন জাতি সম্পর্কে সদাপ্রভুর এই বাক্য, ভাববাদী যিরমিয়ের কাছে উপস্থিত হল:

So much of the word of Yahweh as came unto Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations.

2 মিশর সম্পর্কে: যোশিয়ের পুত্র যিহূদার রাজা যিহোয়াকীমের রাজত্বের চতুর্থ বছরে, ব্যাবিলনের রাজা নেবুখাদনেজার, মিশরের রাজা ফরৌণ নখোর যে সৈন্যদলকে ইউফ্রেটিস নদীর তীরে কর্কমীশে পরাস্ত করেন, তাদের সম্পর্কে এই বাক্য,

Of Egypt, Concerning the force of Pharaoh-necho, king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates, in Carchemish, —which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, smote, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah: —

3 “বড়ো বা ছোটো, তোমাদের ঢালগুলি প্রস্তুত করো ও সমরাভিযানে বের হও!

Prepare ye buckler and shield, And draw near to battle:

4 অশ্বগুলিকে সজ্জিত করো, যুদ্ধাশ্বে আরোহণ করো! শিরস্ত্রাণ পরে তোমরা অবস্থান নাও! তোমাদের বর্শাগুলি ঝকঝকে করো, সব রণসাজ পরে নাও!

Harness the horses, and mount, ye horsemen, Stand forth in helmets, —Polish the lances, put on the coats of mail.

5 আমি কী দেখতে পাচ্ছি? তারা আতঙ্কগ্রস্ত হয়েছে, তারা পিছনে অপসারণ করছে, তাদের বীর যোদ্ধারা পরাস্ত হয়েছে। পিছন দিকে না ফিরে তারা দ্রুত পলায়ন করে, তাদের চারদিকে কেবলই ভয়ের পরিবেশ,” সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন।

Why have I seen it? They, panic-struck, are drawing back, Yea, their heroes, are crushed, Yea they have, fled, and not turned, —Terror round about! Declareth Yahweh.

6 “দ্রুতগামী লোক পলায়ন করতে পারছে না, শক্তিশালী লোকেরাও নিষ্কৃতি পাচ্ছে না। উত্তর দিকে, ইউফ্রেটিস নদীর তীরে, তারা হোঁচট খেয়ে পতিত হচ্ছে।

Let not the swift, flee, Nor let the hero, escape, —Northward, beside the river Euphrates, have they stumbled, and fallen.

7 “নীলনদের মতো, নদীর উপচে পড়া জলরাশির মতো, ওই যে উঠে আসছে, ও কে?

Who is it that is like the Nile when it riseth, Like rivers when his waters are tossed?

8 মিশর নীলনদের মতো উঠে আসছে, যেমন নদীগুলিতে জলরাশি ফেঁপে ওঠে। সে বলছে, ‘আমি উঠে সমস্ত পৃথিবীকে প্লাবিত করব, আমি লোকসমেত সব নগর ধ্বংস করব।’

Egypt was like the Nile when it riseth, And like rivers, when the waters are tossed: So he said—I will rise, I will cover the earth, I will destroy the city, and the dwellers therein.

9 হে অশ্বেরা, তোমরা আক্রমণ করো! ওহে রথারোহীরা, তোমরা উন্মত্তের মতো রথ চালাও! হে যোদ্ধারা, তোমরা সমরাভিযান করো, কূশ ও পূটের লোকেরা, যারা ঢাল বহন করে, লূদের লোকেরা, যারা ধনুকে শরসন্ধান করে।

Mount the horses, And drive the chariots madly on, So let the heroes, go forth, —Ethiopians and Libyans that grasp the buckler, And Lydians that grasp—that tread—the bow, But, that day, belongeth to My Lord Yahweh of hosts—

10 কিন্তু সেদিনটি হল প্রভু, বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভুর, এক প্রতিশোধের দিন, তাঁর শত্রুদের উপরে প্রতিশোধ নেওয়ার দিন। তরোয়াল তৃপ্ত না হওয়া পর্যন্ত গ্রাস করে যাবে, যতক্ষণ না রক্তে তার পিপাসা নিবারিত হয়। কারণ প্রভু, বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু, উত্তরের দেশে, ইউফ্রেটিস নদীর তীরে, বলি উৎসর্গ করবেন।

A day of avenging, to avenge him of his adversaries, When the sword shall devour and be filled, and be sated with their blood, —For, a sacrifice, hath My Lord, Yahweh of hosts, In the land of the North Towards the river Euphrates.

11 “হে মিশরের কুমারী-কন্যা, তুমি গিলিয়দে গিয়ে মলম নিয়ে এসো। কিন্তু তুমি বৃথাই অনেক ওষুধ ব্যবহার করছ, তোমার রোগের কোনো প্রতিকার নেই।

Go up to Gilead and fetch balsam, O virgin daughter of Egypt! In vain, hast thou multiplied remedies, Healing, there is none for thee.

12 জাতিগণ তোমার লজ্জার কথা শুনবে; তোমার কান্নায় পৃথিবী পূর্ণ হবে। এক যোদ্ধা অন্য যোদ্ধার উপরে পড়বে, তারা উভয়েই একসঙ্গে পতিত হবে।”

The nations have heard of thy disgrace, And, thine outcry, hath filled the earth, —For hero against hero, have they stumbled, Together, have fallen, the twain!

13 মিশরকে আক্রমণ করার জন্য ব্যাবিলনের রাজা নেবুখাদনেজারের আগমন সম্পর্কে, সদাপ্রভু ভাববাদী যিরমিয়কে এই বার্তা দিলেন:

The word which Yahweh spake unto Jeremiah the prophet, —as to the coming of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon to smite the land of Egypt: —

14 “তোমরা মিশরে ঘোষণা করো, মিগ্‌দোলে একথা প্রচার করো; মেম্ফিস ও তফন্‌হেষেও একথা গিয়ে বলো: ‘তোমরা নিজেদের অবস্থান নাও ও প্রস্তুত হও, কারণ তরোয়াল তোমাদের চারপাশের সবাইকে গ্রাস করবে।’

Tell ye it in Egypt, And let it be heard in Migdol, Yea let it be heard in Noph, and in Tahpanhes, —Say ye—Stand thou forth, and prepare thyself, For a sword hath devoured round about thee.

15 কেন তোমার যোদ্ধারা ভূপাতিত হবে? তারা দাঁড়াতে পারে না, কারণ সদাপ্রভু তাদের মাটিতে ফেলে দেবেন।

Wherefore have thy valiant ones been laid prostrate? He hath made no stand, because, Yahweh, hath driven him back:

16 তারা বারবার হোঁচট খাবে; তারা পরস্পরের উপরে গিয়ে পড়বে। তারা বলবে, ‘ওঠো, চলো আমরা ফিরে যাই, স্বদেশে, আমাদের আপনজনদের কাছে, অত্যাচারীদের তরোয়াল থেকে অনেক দূরে।’

Hath made many a one to be stumbling, Yea fallen is every one against his neighbour, So they have said—Arise and let us return to our own people, And unto the land of our birth, From the face of the sword of the oppressor.

17 সেখানে তারা চিৎকার করে বলবে, ‘মিশরের রাজা ফরৌণ এক উচ্চশব্দ মাত্র; সে তার সুযোগ হারিয়েছে।’

Proclaim ye a name, —Pharaoh, king of Egypt—a Sound! He hath overstepped the time appointed!

18 “আমার জীবনের দিব্যি,” রাজা ঘোষণা করেন, যাঁর নাম বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু, “একজন আসবেন, যিনি পর্বতগুলির মধ্যে তাবোরের তুল্য, সমুদ্রতীরের কর্মিল পাহাড়ের মতো।

As I live, saith the King, Yahweh of hosts, is his name: Though Like Tabor among mountains, Like Carmel, Into the sea shall he go!

19 তোমরা যারা মিশরে বসবাস করো, নির্বাসনের জন্য তোমাদের জিনিসপত্র তুলে নাও, কারণ মেম্ফিস নগরী পরিত্যক্ত হবে, নিবাসীহীন ধ্বংসস্তূপ হয়ে পড়ে থাকবে।

Baggage for captivity, prepare thee, O inhabitress, daughter of Egypt; For, Noph, shall become a desolation, And be burned without inhabitant.

20 “মিশর এক সুন্দরী বকনা-বাছুর, কিন্তু উত্তর দিক থেকে তার বিরুদ্ধে এক ডাঁশ-মাছি আসছে।

A calf of great beauty, is Egypt: The gad-fly, out of the North, cometh—cometh.

21 তার সৈন্যশ্রেণীরা বেতনভোগী, তারা সব নধর বাছুরের মতো। তারাও পিছন ফিরে একসঙ্গে পালাবে, তারা তাদের স্থানে স্থির হয়ে দাঁড়াতে পারবে না, কারণ বিপর্যয়ের দিন তাদের উপরে নেমে আসছে, সেই সময়টি হল তাদের শাস্তি পাওয়ার।

Even her hirelings in her midst are like fatted calves, For, even they, have turned—have fled at once! have made no stand! For, their day of doom, hath come upon them, The time of their visitation.

22 মিশর পালিয়ে যাওয়া সাপের মতো হিস্‌হিস্ করবে, যেভাবে সৈন্যদল সামনের দিকে এগিয়ে যায়; তারা কুড়ুল নিয়ে তার বিরুদ্ধে আসবে, যেমন লোকেরা গাছপালা কেটে নেয়।

Her noise, like a serpent, departeth, —For, with a force, they advance, And with axes, have they come against her, like them who fell trees:

23 তারা তার অরণ্য কেটে ফেলবে,” সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন, “তা যতই গহন হোক না কেন। তারা পঙ্গপাল অপেক্ষাও বহুসংখ্যক, যাদের সংখ্যা গণনা করা যায় না।

They have cut down her forest Declareth Yahweh, Surely he cannot be searched out, —For they have outnumbered locusts, and cannot be counted.

24 মিশর-কন্যাকে লজ্জা দেওয়া হবে, উত্তরের লোকদের হাতে সে সমর্পিত হবে।”

Put to shame is the daughter of Egypt, —She hath been delivered into the hand of the people of the North.

25 বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু, ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর, এই কথা বলেন: “আমি শাস্তি দিতে চলেছি থিব্‌স-নগরের আমোন-দেবের উপরে, ফরৌণের উপরে, মিশরের উপরে ও তার দেবদেবী ও রাজাদের উপরে, এবং তাদের উপরে, যারা মিশরের উপরে নির্ভর করে।

Saith Yahweh of host God of Israel, —Behold me! bringing punishment—against Amon of No, and upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt, and upon her gods and upon her kings, —Even upon Pharaoh, and upon all that trust in him;

26 যারা তাদের প্রাণ হরণ করতে চায়, আমি তাদের হাতে তাদের সমর্পণ করব। তারা হল ব্যাবিলনের রাজা নেবুখাদনেজার ও তার সৈন্যেরা। পরবর্তী সময়ে, মিশর অবশ্য লোক অধ্যূষিত হবে, যেমন তারা পূর্বে ছিল,” একথা সদাপ্রভু ঘোষণা করেন।

And I will deliver them—Into the hand of them who are seeking their life, Even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon And into the hand of his servants, —And after that, shall it be inhabited as in the days of old Declareth Yahweh.

27 “আমার দাস যাকোব, তোমরা ভয় কোরো না; ও ইস্রায়েল, তোমরা নিরাশ হোয়ো না। আমি নিশ্চয়ই তোমাকে দূরবর্তী দেশ থেকে রক্ষা করব, তোমার বংশধরদের নির্বাসনের দেশ থেকে উদ্ধার করব। যাকোব পুনরায় শান্তি ও সুরক্ষা লাভ করবে, আর কেউ তাকে ভয় দেখাতে পারবে না।

Thou, therefore, do not fear, O my Servant Jacob Nor be dismayed O Israel, For behold me! Saving thee from afar, And thy seed from the land of their captivity, —So shall Jacob return and be quiet and shall rest, With none to occasion alarm.

28 হে যাকোব, আমার দাস, তুমি ভয় কোরো না, কারণ আমি তোমার সঙ্গে আছি,” সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন। “যাদের মধ্যে আমি তোমাকে ছড়িয়ে দিয়েছিলাম, সেই অন্য সব জাতিকে যদিও সম্পূর্ণরূপে ধ্বংস করি, আমি তোমাকে সম্পূর্ণরূপে ধ্বংস করব না। আমি কেবলমাত্র বিচার করে তোমাকে শাস্তি দেব, আমি কোনোমতেই তোমাকে অদণ্ডিত রাখব না।”

Thou, do not fear, O my Servant Jacob, Urgeth Yahweh, For, with thee, am I: Though I make an end of all the nations whither I have driven thee, Yet of thee, will I not make an end, But will correct thee in measure, And not hold thee, guiltless,
