যিরমিয়ের বই 18
1 সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকে যিরমিয়ের কাছে এই বাক্য উপস্থিত হল:
The word that came unto Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying:
2 “তুমি কুমোরের গৃহে নেমে যাও। আমি সেখানে তোমাকে আমার বাক্য দেব।”
Arise and go down to the house of the potter, —and, there, will I cause thee to hear my words.
3 তাই আমি কুমোরের গৃহে নেমে গেলাম। আমি তাকে চাকায় কাজ করতে দেখলাম।
So I went down, to the house of the potter, —and there he was! making a piece of work on the wheels,
4 সে যে পাত্রটি মাটি দিয়ে তৈরি করছিল, তা তার হাতে বিকৃত হয়ে গেল; তখন কুমোর তা নিয়ে অন্য একটি পাত্র তৈরি করল। সে তাতে নিজের ইচ্ছামতো আকৃতি দিল।
Then was marred, the vessel that he was making, while yet it was clay in the hand of the potter, —so he turned and made of it another vessel, as seemed right in the eyes of the potter to make it.
5 তখন সদাপ্রভুর বাক্য আমার কাছে উপস্থিত হল:
Then came the word of Yahweh unto me, saying:
6 “হে ইস্রায়েল কুলের লোকেরা, এই কুমোর যেমন করছে, আমি কি তোমাদের প্রতি তেমনই করতে পারি না?” সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন। “হে ইস্রায়েল কুল, কুমোরের হাতে যেমন মাটি, আমার হাতে তোমরাও তেমনই।
Like this potter, can I not deal with you O house of Israel? Demandeth Yahweh: Lo! as clay in the hand of the potter, So, are, ye, in my hand O house of Israel.
7 কোনও সময়ে যদি আমি কোনো জাতি বা রাজ্যকে উৎপাটন করা, উপড়ে ফেলা বা ধ্বংসের কথা ঘোষণা করি,
The moment I speak, concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom, —to pull up and to break down, and to destroy;
8 কিন্তু সেই যে জাতিকে আমি সতর্ক করলাম, তারা যদি তাদের মন্দ কাজের জন্য অনুতাপ করে, তাহলে আমি কোমল হব এবং তাদের প্রতি যে বিপর্যয় আনার পরিকল্পনা করেছিলাম, তা নিয়ে আসব না।
and that nation return from its wickedness against whom I have spoken, then will I repent concerning the calamity which I had devised to bring upon it.
9 আবার অন্য কোনো সময় যদি আমি ঘোষণা করি যে, কোনো জাতি বা রাজ্যকে গড়ে তুলব ও প্রতিষ্ঠিত করব,
And, the moment I speak, concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom, —to build and to plant;
10 আর যদি তারা আমার দৃষ্টিতে মন্দ কাজ করে ও আমার কথা না শোনে, তাহলে যে মঙ্গল করার পরিকল্পনা আমি করেছিলাম, তা না করার জন্য পুনর্বিবেচনা করব।
and it commit wickedness in mine eyes, in not hearkening unto my voice, then will I repent concerning the good wherewith I had said I would do it good.
11 “তাহলে এবার তুমি যিহূদার লোকেদের ও জেরুশালেমের অধিবাসীদের এই কথা বলো, ‘সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: দেখো, আমি তোমাদের জন্য এক বিপর্যয় এবং তোমাদের বিরুদ্ধে এক পরিকল্পনা রচনা করছি। তাই তোমরা প্রত্যেকে, তোমাদের মন্দ জীবনাচরণ থেকে ফেরো এবং তোমাদের জীবনাচরণ ও তোমাদের কার্যকলাপের সংশোধন করো।’
Now, therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the men of Judah and concerning the inhabitants of Jerusalem saying, Thus, saith Yahweh, —Lo! I am fashioning against you calamity, and devising against you, a device, —Return I pray you every man from his wicked way, And amend your ways and your doings.
12 কিন্তু তারা উত্তর দেবে, ‘এতে কোনো লাভ নেই। আমরা নিজেদের পরিকল্পনা অনুযায়ী কাজ করতে থাকব; আমাদের প্রত্যেকেই নিজের নিজের মন্দ হৃদয়ের একগুঁয়েমি অনুসারে চলব।’”
And, since they will say, Hopeless! For after our own devices, will we walk, And, every one, the stubbornness of his own wicked heart, will we do!
13 সেই কারণে, সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: “জাতিসমূহের মধ্যে খোঁজ করে দেখো, তাদের মধ্যে কারা এই ধরনের কথা শুনেছে? এক অত্যন্ত ভয়ংকর কাজ কুমারী-ইস্রায়েল করেছে।
Therefore, Thus saith Yahweh, Ask I pray you among the nations, —Who hath heard such things as these? A very horrible thing, hath, the virgin, Israel done!
14 লেবাননের তুষার কি তার ঢালু পাহাড় থেকে কখনও অন্তর্হিত হয়? দূর থেকে বয়ে আসা এর শীতল জলের স্রোত কখনও কি নিবৃত্ত হয়?
Shall the snow of Lebanon, fail from the rock of the field? Or shall waters from afar, deep, overflowing, be dried up?
15 আমার প্রজারা কিন্তু আমাকে ভুলে গেছে; তারা অসার প্রতিমাদের উদ্দেশে ধূপদাহ করে, যে প্রতিমারা তাদের বিভিন্ন পথে ও পুরাতন পথগুলিতে চলার জন্য প্রতিবন্ধকতার সৃষ্টি করে। তারা বিভিন্ন গলিপথে ও যে পথ নির্মিত হয়নি, সেই পথে তাদের চালিত করে।
Yet my people have forgotten me, Unto vanity, have they been burning incense; And it hath caused them to stumble In their ways The roads of age-past times, To walk in by-paths—A way not cast up.
16 তাদের দেশ পরিত্যক্ত পড়ে থাকবে, যা হবে চিরন্তন নিন্দার বিষয়; এর পাশ দিয়ে যাওয়া পথিকেরা বিস্ময়ে তাদের মাথা নাড়বে।
To make their land a desolation The hissings of age-abiding times, —Every one that passeth by her, shall be astonished and wag his head.
17 পুবালি বাতাসের মতো, আমি শত্রুদের সামনে তাদের ছিন্নভিন্ন করব; তাদের বিপর্যয়ের দিনে, আমি তাদের আমার পিঠ দেখাব, মুখ নয়।”
Like an east wind, will I scatter them before the enemy, —The back and not the face, will I let them see in the day of their distress.
18 তখন তারা বলল, “এসো, আমরা যিরমিয়ের বিরুদ্ধে ষড়যন্ত্র করি; কারণ যাজকদের দ্বারা দেওয়া বিধানের শিক্ষা, জ্ঞানী ব্যক্তিদের পরামর্শ বা ভাববাদীদের দেওয়া বাক্য নষ্ট হবে না। তাই এসো, আমরা মুখের কথায় তাকে আক্রমণ করি এবং সে যা বলে, তার কোনো কথায় আমরা মনোযোগ না দিই।”
Then said they, —Come ye and let us devise against Jeremiah devices, For the law shall not perish from the priest, Nor, counsel, from the wise, Nor, the word from the prophet: Come and let as smite him with the tongue, And let us not give ear to any of his words!
19 হে সদাপ্রভু, আমার কথা শোনো; আমার অভিযোগকারীরা কী কথা বলছে, তাতে কর্ণপাত করো!
Give thou ear O Yahweh unto me, —And hearken unto the voice of mine accusers.
20 ভালোর শোধ কি মন্দ দিয়ে করা হবে? তবুও দেখো, তারা আমার জন্য গর্ত খনন করেছে। তুমি স্মরণ করো, আমি তোমার সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে তাদের পক্ষে কথা বলেছিলাম, যেন তাদের উপর থেকে তোমার ক্রোধ সরে যায়।
Shall, evil, be recompensed for good? For they have digged a pit for my life, —Remember how I stood before thee To speak in their behalf what was good! To turn back thine indignation from them.
21 তাই তাদের সন্তানদের দুর্ভিক্ষের মুখে ফেলে দাও; তাদের তরোয়ালের শক্তির মুখে সমর্পণ করো। তাদের স্ত্রীরা সন্তানহীন ও বিধবা হোক; তাদের পুরুষদের মৃত্যু হোক, তাদের যুবকেরা যুদ্ধে তরোয়ালের আঘাতে নিহত হোক।
Therefore, give thou up their sons to the famine And deliver them into the hands of the sword, And let their, wives, become, childless and widows, And let, their men, be slain by death, Their young men be smitten by the sword in battle.
22 যখন তুমি হঠাৎ তাদের বিরুদ্ধে আক্রমণকারীদের আনয়ন করো, তাদের গৃহগুলি থেকে শোনা যাক কান্নার রোল, কারণ আমাকে ধরার জন্য তারা গর্ত খুঁড়েছে, আমার পায়ের জন্য ফাঁদ পেতেছে।
Let there be heard a cry out of their houses, When thou shalt bring in upon them a troop, suddenly, —Because they digged a pit to capture me, And snares, did they hide for my feet.
23 কিন্তু হে সদাপ্রভু, তুমি জানো আমাকে হত্যা করার জন্য তাদের সব ষড়যন্ত্রের কথা। তোমার দৃষ্টিপথ থেকে তাদের পাপগুলি মুছে ফেলার জন্য তুমি তাদের অপরাধসকল ক্ষমা কোরো না। তারা তোমার সামনে নিক্ষিপ্ত হোক; তোমার ক্রোধের সময়ে তুমি তাদের প্রতি যথোপযুক্ত আচরণ কোরো।
But, thou, O Yahweh, knowest all their counsels against me to put me to death, Put thou no propitiatory-covering over their iniquity, And their sin from before thee, do not thou blot out, —But let them be overthrown before thee, In the time of thine anger, deal thou effectively with them.
