হোশেয় ভাববাদীর বই 10

1 ইস্রায়েল ছিল শাখাপ্রশাখা সমন্বিত এক দ্রাক্ষালতা; সে নিজের জন্যই ফল উৎপন্ন করত। তার ফল যখন বৃদ্ধি পেল, সে তখন আরও বেশি যজ্ঞবেদি নির্মাণ করল; তার দেশ যেই সমৃদ্ধ হল, সে তার পবিত্র পাথর স্তম্ভগুলি সুশোভিত করল।

Israel is a luxuriant vine, That bringeth forth fruit; But according to the abundance of his fruit hath he abounded in altars; According to the goodness of his land hath he made goodly images.

2 তাদের হৃদয় প্রবঞ্চনায় পূর্ণ, তাই এখন তারা অবশ্যই তাদের অপরাধ বহন করবে। সদাপ্রভু তাদের যজ্ঞবেদিগুলি ভেঙে ফেলবেন ও তাদের পবিত্র পাথরের স্তম্ভগুলি ধ্বংস করবেন।

Their heart is divided; now shall they suffer for it; He will break down their altars, And destroy their images.

3 তখন তারা বলবে, “আমাদের কোনো রাজা নেই, তাই আমরা সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় করিনি। আর যদিও আমাদের কোনো রাজা থাকতেন, তাহলে তিনিই বা আমাদের জন্য কী করতেন?”

For soon shall they say, We have no king, Because we fear not Jehovah; What can a king do for us?

4 তারা বহু প্রতিশ্রুতি দেয়, চুক্তি করার সময় তারা মিথ্যা শপথ করে; সেই কারণে মোকদ্দমা গজিয়ে ওঠে চাষ করা জমিতে বিষাক্ত আগাছার মতো।

They utter empty words, Swearing falsely, making covenants, And now judgment springeth up, as hemlock in the furrows of the field.

5 শমরিয়ায় বসবাসকারী লোকদের কাছে বেথ-আবনের বাছুর-প্রতিমা ভীতিপ্রদ। কিন্তু এর অধিবাসীরা তার জন্য বিলাপ করবে, যেমনটা করবে তার মূর্তিপূজক যাজকেরা, যারা তার আড়ম্বরে আনন্দিত হয়েছিল, কেননা সেই গৌরবকে তাদের কাছ থেকে নিয়ে নির্বাসনে পাঠানো হবে।

For the calf of Bethaven shall the inhabitants of Samaria be in fear; Yea, its people shall grieve for it, And its priests shall tremble for it, Because its glory has departed from it.

6 তা আসিরিয়ার মহারাজের কাছে উপঢৌকন স্বরূপ তা বহন করে নিয়ে যাওয়া হবে। ইফ্রয়িম অপমানিত হবে; ইস্রায়েল তার বিদেশি জোটের জন্য লজ্জিত হবে।

It shall be carried to Assyria, As a present to the hostile king. Ephraim shall be covered with confusion, And Israel shall be ashamed of his doings,

7 জলরাশির উপরে কচি শাখার মতো শমরিয়া ও তার রাজা ভেসে যাবে।

Samaria shall be brought to destruction; Her king shall be as a twig upon the waters.

8 দুষ্টতার উচ্চ স্থানগুলি ধ্বংস করা হবে, কারণ এ হল ইস্রায়েলের পাপ। সেখানে কাঁটাগাছ ও শিয়ালকাঁটার জন্ম হবে, এবং সেগুলি তাদের যজ্ঞবেদিগুলিকে ঢেকে ফেলবে। তখন তারা পর্বতসকলের উদ্দেশে বলবে, “আমাদের ঢেকে ফেলো!” আর পাহাড়গুলিকে বলবে, “আমাদের উপরে পড়ো!”

The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed; The thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars. And they shall say to the mountains, Cover us! And to the hills, Fall on us!

9 “হে ইস্রায়েল, গিবিয়ার সময় থেকে তোমরা পাপ করেছ, আর তোমরা সেখানেই থেকে গিয়েছ। তাই যুদ্ধ গিবিয়ার দুষ্কর্মকারীদের নাগাল কি পাবে না?

More than in the days of Gibeah hast thou sinned, O Israel! There they stood; The battle in Gibeah against the sons of iniquity did not overtake them.

10 আমার যখন ইচ্ছা হবে, আমি তাদের শাস্তি দেব; তাদের দ্বিগুণ পাপের জন্য তাদের বেঁধে ফেলতে। জাতিসমূহ তাদের বিরুদ্ধে একত্র হবে,

Now will I chastise them according to my pleasure, And the nations shall be gathered together against them, When I shall bind them for their two iniquities.

11 ইফ্রয়িম এক প্রশিক্ষিত বকনা-বাছুর, সে শস্যমর্দন করতে ভালোবাসে; তাই আমি তার সুন্দর ঘাড়ে একটি জোয়াল দেব। আমি ইফ্রয়িমকে বিতাড়িত করব, যিহূদাকে অবশ্যই ভূমি কর্ষণ করতে হবে, আর যাকোব অবশ্যই মাটির ঢেলা ভাঙবে।

Ephraim is a trained heifer, that loveth to tread out the corn; But I will lay the yoke upon her fair neck; I will cause Ephraim to draw, Judah shall plough, Jacob shall harrow.

12 তোমরা নিজেদের জন্য ধার্মিকতার বীজবপন করো, অনিঃশেষ ভালোবাসার ফসল তোলো, তোমাদের পতিত জমি চাষ করো; কারণ এখনই সদাপ্রভুকে অন্বেষণ করার সময়, যতক্ষণ তিনি এসে তোমাদের উপরে ধার্মিকতা বর্ষণ না করেন।

Sow for yourselves to righteousness, and ye shall reap according to your piety; Break up your fallow ground; For it is a time to seek Jehovah, Till he come and rain righteousness upon you.

13 কিন্তু তোমরা তো দুষ্টতার বীজবপন করেছ, তোমরা মন্দতার শস্যচয়ন করেছ, তোমরা প্রতারণার ফল ভক্ষণ করেছ। এসবের কারণ, তোমরা নিজেদের শক্তি ও তোমাদের অসংখ্য বীর যোদ্ধাদের উপর নির্ভর করেছিলে।

Ye plough wickedness, ye shall reap injustice; Ye shall eat the fruit of falsehood. Because thou trustest in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men,

14 তোমার প্রজাদের বিরুদ্ধে রণনাদ গর্জিত হবে, যাতে তোমাদের সব দুর্গ বিধ্বস্ত হয়; ঠিক যেভাবে শল্‌মন যুদ্ধের সময় বেথ-অর্বেলকে ধ্বংস করেছিল, সন্তানসহ মায়েদের আছাড় মেরে খণ্ড খণ্ড করেছিল।

There shall arise a tumult among thy people, And all thy fortresses shall be destroyed, As Shalman destroyed Betharbel in the day of battle, When the mother was dashed in pieces with her children.

15 ওহে বেথেল, তোমার প্রতি এরকমই করা হবে, কারণ তোমার দুষ্টতা বিপুল। সেদিন যখন ঘনিয়ে আসবে, তখন ইস্রায়েলের রাজা সম্পূর্ণরূপে বিনষ্ট হবে।

Such things shall Bethel bring upon you Because of your great wickedness. In the morning shall the king of Israel be destroyed.
